SONS, Vivian Ethel, daughter of Ava A. and Pearl L. Sons. Born January 21, 1917, Auburn, Nebraska, died June 28, 1999. . Baptized in PrairieUnion County church at the age of 11 years. Reared as a Baptist until marrying Olen Eilers (who was a Lutheran) in 1937. One child to this union, Larry Dee Eilers 1938. Olen Eilers passed away in 1939.
In 1941 she married
Harold C. Heckel. To this union two children were born: Carolyn Kay in 1943 and Harold Ray in 1947. Harold Heckel moved his family from Rockport, MO to Tucson, AZ in 1953 where they resided until 1996 when they moved to their son's home in Las Vegas. They stayed one year. Mr. Heckel passed away in Las Vegas in 1997. Vivian moved to Simi Valley to be with her daughter, Carolyn, and has lived there since.
She leaves three children; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was a homemaker and loved her family very much. Her husband, Harold, and three sisters passed away before her. Velma Atkins, Mary Armstrong, Annalee Slagle, her mother and father and brother in infancy.

BERTRAM, James J., passed away at Tucson Medical Center on July 1, 1999, he was 80. A native of Platteville, WI, James married
his high school sweetheart and constant companion Charlotte Swenson in 1942. He served our country in the Army during World War II and Korea. In 1955 they relocated to Tucson where he was employed and retired from the H.J Heinz Co. after serving them for 52 years. He was also a devoted Catholic and parishioner of St. Cyril Church for 37 years. He will always be remembered as a loving husband and father. James is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Jennie Bertram, and sisters, Loraine and Bernadine. He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 1/2 years, Charlotte; daughter, Lorraine (Gary) Tracy; brother, Ambrose (Evie) Bertram; sister, Beverly (Neal) Walters; sister-in-law, Marilyn Farrey and many nieces and nephews. Funeral mass will be offered at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 3, 1999 from St. Cyril Catholic Church, 4725 E. Pima (at Swan). Interment will follow in South Lawn cemetery. KAHN, Gloria, 75, of Tucson, died June 30, 1999. She is survived by her children, Karen Dotson, David (Carol) Kahn; and three grandchildren, Aaron, Jade and Nathan. There will be no services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association.
M. LEE STARR, 77, of Tucson, died July 2, 1999 at his residence in Tucson. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Eileen; daughters, Marianne Starr and Lisa Starr Burns; son-in-law, Kevin Burns, all of Tucson, and a nephew. Dr. Starr was a teacher, counselor, principal and administrator in the Tucson Unified School District. He was a teacher at Doolen Jr. High School, a high school counselor and assistant principal at Alice Vail Jr. High School and Catalina High School, principal at Rincon High School and Tucson High School. He was assistant superintendent of Tucson Unified School District from 1971 to 1974, and associate superintendent from 1974 to 1978. He entered private practice as a psychologist in 1978 and founded and was the president and CEO of Psychological Engineering for Business and industry from 1984 until his death.
Dr. Starr received his bachelor's degree from the University of Miami and did postgraduate work leading to a master's degree at Columbia University, the University of Denver, Arizona State University and the University of Arizona. He received a doctorate in education from Western Colorado University in 1974.

COVINGTON, Thomas W., 82, of Tucson, passed away July 2, 1999. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Muriel; sister, Rella Morgan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Quitman and Grace Covington. Mr. Covington was a resident of Tucson on and off for the past 43 years. He was formerly of Paducah, Kentucky. Mr. Covington operated the used car lot here in Tucson, known as Southside Auto Sales, for many years. Funeral Services and Interment will take place in Paducah, Kentucky. FOSTER, Frances Lloyd, known as 'Pat' to her family and friends, was born 29 July 1925 in Newark, NJ, and died in her home in Green Valley, AZ on 25 June, 1999 following a period of declining health. She had lived in the Tucson area for the past 15 years following her retirement from the Martin Marietta corporation.
Her father, Lieutenant Frederic D. Foster, was killed weeks after her birth in the tragic loss of the US submarine S-51 in a collision with the steamer City of Roma off Block Island, RI. She was raised and attended school in Nutley, NJ and has maintained close friendships with some of her grade school classmates. An early interest in photography led to the capture of many memorable scenes which adorn her home and those of her many friends. She specialized in outdoor photography, with emphasis scenic vistas of the Southwest and its abundant wildlife.
Her career with Martin included increasingly responsible positions in aerospace engineering. She enjoyed an extended period in their Denver operation where she lived in Castle Rock, CO, and pursued her interest in horses. She transferred to Vandenberg AFB with Martin and resided in Lompoc, CA until her retirement.
With her passing the birds and other wildlife who visit her patio daily have been mourning their loss, especially the doves.

, she is survived by her cousins, Sidney Worley of Baltimore, MD; Ruth Bayly of West End, NJ; Philip Dickinson of Fairfax, VA; John Dickinson of Tucson and Robert Dickinson of Cooper City, FL.
There will be no memorial service per her often stated wishes. Her ashes will be returned to the wilderness she loved. Contributions may be made in her name to the Nature Conservancy, Arizona Chapter, Tucson, AZ.

A professional pilot-Dick's flying career spanned over 44 years; 23 years in the Air Force, retiring a Lt. CABALLERO, Alfonso Gomez, a strong willed man who lived life to the fullest with his wife, children and grandchildren, died July 6, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Norma A.
