KATHERINE ANN HERNANDEZ-ORTIZ, 32, a student at Pima Community College, died Wednesday, July 14, 1999. Mrs. Ortiz lived in Tucson, Arizona for life.
She is survived by her former husband, Ernesto Ortiz; her father, Reyes Hernandez. Also, Celina Vindiola (daughter), Cynthia Ortiz (daughter), Carol Marie Hernandez (sister), Rosemary Palma (sister), Sergio Reyes Hernandez (brother), Pablo Corona (brother), Anthony Corona (brother), Mercedes Valdez Hernandez (grandmother). Her mother, Estela Garcia preceded her in death.
She was born January 16, 1967 in Tucson, Arizona the daughter of Reyes and Estela (Garcia) Hernandez.
Visitation will be at MARTINEZ FUNERAL CHAPELS, 2580 S. 6th Ave., on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 19, 1999 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church. Burial will be in Holy Hope cemetery in Tucson.
She has gone to join our mother in God's Loving Arms and we will unite one day. Arrangements by MARTINEZ FUNERAL CHAPELS, (520) 547-3400.

HUDGIN, James Palen, 78, died July 15, 1999. Survived by his wife of 57 years, Margaret Hudgin; daughter, Virginia L. Burns; sons, James P. (Lisbeth) Hudgin and David B. Hudgin; grandchildren, Brent W. Hudgin, Elise R. Hudgin and Collin Burns; great-grandchildren, Christian H. Burns, , Taylor E. Hudgin and Luke W. Hudgin; brother, Henry Hudgin; sister, Jean Roark. preceded in death by his grandson, Gerald P. Winder. Born in Nogales April 5, 1921. He was a Civilian Flight Instructor for the military beginning in 1942 and served in the Air Force from 1945 to 1946. Palen, along with four brothers owned and operated Hudgin Air Service in Tucson from 1938 until retirement in 1987. They also operated Grand Canyon Airlines from 1949 to early 70's. He was a charter member of First Evangelical Free Church. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until service time 3:00 p.m., Sunday, July 18, 1999 at EAST LAWN PALMS CHAPEL 5801 E. Grant Road. Officiating will be Pastors Ralph Porter and Gerald Hagelin. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crisis Pregnancy Center.

LAUBER, Ferdinand E., age 65, of Jefferson, Wisconsin, passed away at his home July 12, 1999. He was born on April 6, 1934 in Tucson, son of Ferdinand Lauber, Sr. and Virginia (Stovall) Weaver. Ferdinand was a resident at St. Coletta's for 54 years, a member of the Third Order of the Franciscans and the Knights of Columbus. Survived by his father, Ferdinand, Sr.; his stepfather, Charles Weaver; two stepsisters and one stepbrother, all of Tucson. preceded in death by his mother, Virginia. Rosary will be recited 7:00 p.m., Sunday, July 18th at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL. Mass will be offered 12:00 noon Monday, July 19th at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 3201 E. Presidio Rd. Friends may call from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, July 18th at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

OFORI, Erick Swame, 22, of Tucson died Wednesday, June 30, 1999. He is survived by his mother, Comfort Agyarko of London; father, Kojo Ofori of Ghana; three sisters in Ghana; aunt, Grace Glavee of MA; friends, Kweku Ansah-Obin, Grace Agbolosoo, both of Tucson; he will be remembered by the Ghana Assoc. of Arizona and many other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 17, 1999 at HEATHER MORTUARY CHAPEL, 1030 N. Columbus Blvd. Burial will follow at Evergreen cemetery.

GUFFEY, Louise, 89 of Sun City Visto, died July 17, 1999. Survived by sons, James and Findley; brother, Russell Leasure; three grandchildren; and one great grandchild. No services were held. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave. (at Magee)

HAWXHURST, Mary Jane (Clausen), 75 years young, beloved wife of the late Ralph R. Hawxhurst. Mary Jane is survived by her son, Peter C. (Maureen) Hawxhurst, Stephanie Cameron, Julie (Ayman) Ghadban and her three grandchildren, Christopher, Yui and Simone.
Mary Jane moved to Tucson from the Chicago area in 1969 and will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother and friend. Mary Jane was a philanthropist and will be carefully thought about for her selflessness to those in need.
Mary Jane's family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the many kind words and deeds during this difficult time with a special thanks to Carondelet Hospice and her caregivers.
Memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 21, 1999 at EAST LAWN PALMS CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Road. Contributions to the American Cancer Society.

EVANS, Jack Leroy, 59, died July 17, 1999. Husband of Louise; father of Dana Michelle and Justin A. (Cindy); seven brothers and sisters also survive. HOAG, Arthur A., 78, died July 17, 1999. Survived by his wife, Marjorie Hoag; daughter, Stefanie (William) Hoel; son, Tom (Barbara Laymance) Hoag; grandchildren, Jacki Hoel, Damian Hoag and Lukas Arthur Hoag; great-grandchild, Gabrielle Hoag. Arthur was born in Ann Arbor, MI, January 28, 1921. A graduate of Brown University in 1942 and serving in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945. He received his Ph.D. in Astronomy from Harvard University in 1952, and worked at the Naval Observatory, Washington D.C. from 1950 to 1955. He was director of the Flagstaff station of the U.S. Naval Observatory, 1955 to 1965; Astronomer at Kitt Peak National Observatory, 1965 to 1977; and director, Lowell Observatory, Flagstaff, AZ 1977 to 1986. In retirement he and his wife were active with Lutheran Social Ministry. Memorial service 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 23, 1999 at Tanque Verde Lutheran Church, 8625 E. Tanque Verde Rd. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

Annie C. Martinez, 69, beloved mother and sister, died July 17, 1999. Born July 20, 1929. preceded in death by husband, Butch Martinez. Survived by daughter, Pat (Steve); sons, Sam (Mary), Fred (Cathy) and Andy; sisters, Wilma and Yolanda; brothers, Phil, Pete and Reyes; 12 grandchildren; and 1 great-granddaughter. PAYNE, Robert Strickler, 68 years old, died Saturday, July 17, 1999 in Tucson. Born on August 17, 1930 in Cleveland, Ohio. Survived by his wife of 43 years, Joan Payne of Tucson; children, Thomas (Jodie) Payne of Lexington, KY, Katherine A. Payne of Tucson and David Robert Payne of Bremerton, Washington; brother, Richard C. (Barbara) Payne of Shaker Heights, Ohio; two grandchildren, Daniel Wheatcroft of Alabaster, Alabama, Tasman Elizabeth Payne of Lexington, KY; three cousins. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 21, 1999 at WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL, 5225 E. Speedway. Family suggests memorials be made to A.Y.S.O. Region #922 or a charity of your choice.

ELMA RUTH QUARELLI, age 86 of Winkelman, AZ, died Friday, July 16, 1999. She is survived by sons, Charley Quarelli of Tucson and Thomas Quarelli of Phoenix; grandchildren, Jenna, Gina, Christina, Michael; siblings, Patty Swanson, Gay Robinson, Jack Collins and Inez Cleveland. She was born May 4, 1913 in Carbon, Texas. Friends may call 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. with service at 10:00 a.m. at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave. at Magee. Burial will follow at Mt. View cemetery, Hayden, AZ.

TALAVERA, Helen, was born November 23, 1953 in Safford, AZ. She attended Safford schools and graduated from Safford High School in 1972. She was a member of Mrs. Bellamy's Championship Volleyball Team. Helen attended Eastern Arizona College in 1973-74 where she was a member of the 1973 Eastern Arizona Volleyball Team. The team took first place at the First Annual National JC-CC Alaw Volleyball Tournament in Miami, Florida. While attending Eastern Arizona College she was employed by the U.S. Geological Survey. Helen moved to Tucson in 1980 where she worked for Goodwill Industries and IOTA Engineering. She was disabled in 1991 and suffered from a debilitating illness.
Helen is survived by her companion, Jr. Smith and their children, Andrea and Timothy. She is also survived by her mother, Carmen Talavera; two brothers, Manuel Talavera, Jr. and Danny Talavera; three sisters, Rita Lucero, Gloria Talavera Rhoades and Kathy Moran. Helen was preceded in death by her father, Manuel Talavera, Sr. in December of 1997.
Memorial services are pending for Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

ARTHUR JOHN ALIETTI, age 77, passed away July 19, 1999 following a brief illness. He is survived by his wife, Lydia; son, Michael Alietti; daughters, Kathy Vasquez (Edward), Jeanie Schrell (Richard); and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives. Arthur served in the United States Army during World War II. His ability to deal with adversity and illness was an inspiration to all of us. He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather, and loved by all who knew him. A visitation will be held Thursday, July 22, 1999, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway), with the Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. The Mass will be celebrated at 5:00 p.m., Friday, July 23, 1999 at St. Joseph Church, 215 S. Craycroft Rd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Iglesia Nuestra Sra de Loreto de Bacadehuachi, Sonora, Mexico; contributions may be sent in care of 5779 E. 14th St., Tucson, AZ 85711.

FARNSWORTH, James L. 'Jay' born December 4, 1924, passed away July 15, 1999 in Santa Barbara, CA. Jay served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1945. He worked for Hughes Aircraft in Tucson, AZ for 23 years and transferred to Santa Barbara Research Center in 1978. He is survived by his wife, Jean; a daughter, Antoinette; three sisters, two granddaughters and two great-granddaughters. A son, Christopher, preceded him in death. He was a member of American Legion, Santa Barbara and B.P.O.E. in Tucson. There were no services as per his instructions.

HINCH, Echo Marguerite, 84, of Tucson, died Saturday, July 17, 1999. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 22, 1999 at Tucson Estates Recreation Hall, 5900 W. Western Way Circle. Arrangements by HEATHER MORTUARY, an aftercare provider.

JORDAN, Jean C., 66, of Tucson, died Friday, July 16, 1999. She is survived by her husband, Richard; five children, five grandchildren and one sister. A Memorial Mass will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 24, 1999 at St. Augustine's Cathedral, 192 S. Stone Ave. Burial will be at Sudbury Town cemetery in Sudbury, Massachusetts. NATHENSON, Muriel R., 67, of SaddleBrooke died July 19, 1999. Survived by husband, Gerald Nathenson; mother, Belle Rudenstein; two children, one brother and a sister.
