Together with his wife, they visited hundreds of sick and lonely people throughout their 10 years of faithful service at Pantano Christian Church. VINCENT J. CELESTE, 67, of Oro Valley, AZ, died at home July 31, 1999. Born on August 18, 1931, in New York City to the late Ignazio and Antionette Celeste, he is survived by his best friend and wife, Carol; daughters, Toni (Mark) Jarnecke of Newell, SD, Doris Celeste of Jacksonville, FL, Cari (Al) DeMarco of Shelton, CT; sons, Marc Celeste of Old Saybrook, CT, Vince (Patti) Celeste of Vernon, CT; grandsons, Nick and Marty Jarnecke; granddaughter, Jasmine Celeste; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Elton and Ann Moore; nieces, Kimberlee (Steve) Wooten of VA and Jennifer (Mary) Krieves of NC; grandniece, Rachel Sue Wooten; and two dear friends, Betty Doherty and Nancy Faris of Tucson, AZ. Vince will also be greatly missed by several cousins and many friends across the country.
Vince joined the U.S. Navy in 1948 and his distinguished military career of 21 years saw him rise from Hospital Recruit to Lieutenant Commander, Medical Service Corps. His service included 13 months in Viet Nam.
Vince earned a Master's Degree in Hospital Administration from Georgetown University and had a successful second career in that field. Many of his works were published in the 'Bureau of National Affairs'. He was also active in local politics and community activities during the 20 years he lived in Wallingford, CT, serving on the Zoning Board of Appeals, the Visitors Council, and the Republican Town Committee. He also served as Patient Ombudsman for the CT Department on Aging.
Vince Celeste was a Galantuomo (a man of honor) proud of his Sicilian heritage and his military service to the United States of America. He possessed machismo, intelligence, humor, grace and tenderness and he lived by a high moral code. He was the quintessential man; a tender loving husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle and friend; a man who lived his life fully and with great appreciation.
A full military burial will be in Arlington National cemetery. FOREMAN, Grover P., age 74, of Oro Valley, AZ, died August 3, 1999. HIGNUTT, Anne A., age 91, died Monday, August 8, 1999. Mrs. Hignutt is survived by her loving daughter, Christine A. Carson (William C.) of Tucson, and by numerous family members in Florida and Pennsylvania. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 180 of Tucson. Mrs. Hignutt had taught Yoga for over forty years, and had received high recognition for her teachings, and for her help with the sick. Anne was dearly loved and will be desperately missed by her family. The family asks that Mrs. Hignutt be remembered in all our prayers. No services will be held. Formerly employed by Woolworth's, Arizona Maintenance and Hughes. preceded in death by daughter, Elizabeth A. Lopez; sister, Connie Armenta; father, Faustino O. Alvarez. Survived by husband, Edward V. Lopez; mother, Guadalupe B. Alvarez; daughters, Deborah Ann Rodriguez and Lupita (Tom) Bettini; sons, Edward R. (Carla) and Richard P. (Jessie) Lopez; sister, Delfina B. Alvarez; brothers, Faustino (Gloria) and Dennis (Clara) Alvarez. Also survived by eight grandchildren. She spent her life loving and caring for all these and more.
Pupie was a blithe spirit whose humor, both consoling and invigorating, gave testament to the great value of laughter, especially in the wakes of adversity. Her multifaceted generosity stemmed bountifully from a caring, thoughtful and unselfish heart. She showed us how to enjoy life and to help others enjoy their lives. Her presence was a blessing and we will forever remember her with love and tenderness.
