THOMAS J. TROUP, 75, died at his home in Columbus, NC, August 4, 1999. He was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and a M.B.A. from the Harvard School of Business Administration with High Distinction.
Tom first encountered Tucson, Arizona in the mid-1950's when he assisted his good friend and Harvard Business School classmate, Tom Brown, in the early years of Burr-Brown Corporation. Burr-Brown isn an international technology company and one of Tucson's largest employers. In 1982, Tom used his vast business expertise learned as Executive Vice President, Treasurer, and Director of Akzona Inc. Asheville, NC, a Fortune 500 company, to assist the BurrBrown in going public which was primarily responsible for the company's meteoric growth. Before retirement in 1997, he was Vice Chairman and CFO of Burr-Brown.
Previously, he was Senior V.P.-Finance for W.R. Grace in charge of the Overseas Division, New York, NY and V.P. and Comptroller of Cryovac Division, Duncan, SC.
He was a Director of the Research Triangle Institute, the Microelectronic Center of North Carolina, the Baird Corporation, Dynamics Research Corporation, BRIntec Corporation and Burr-Brown Corporation. In addition he served as a Trustee of Warren Wilson College in Swananoa, NC. At Warren Wilson, Tom was instrumental in all aspects of fund raising and was awarded special recognition by the college.
His wife, Marjory Troup, preceded him in death in 1994. Tom has a brother, Dr. Richard Troup of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and a sister, Mrs. Carolyn van Laaen of Ponte Vedra, Florida. Also surviving are two sons, Robert Troup of Spartanburg, SC and James Troup of Leucadia, CA and a daughter, Patricia Troup of Freehold, NJ. He had five grandsons, Hunter, Campbell, Daniel, Andrew and Coleman.
Tom was a long time member of Tucson Country Club, Red Fox Country Club, Tryon North Carolina, and Biltmore Country Club, Asheville, N.C.
Tom has been a member of Church of Advent, Spartanburg, S.C., St. Philip's Church, Tucson, and Jacksons Grove Methodist Church in Columbus, N.C.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 7th, 10:00 a.m. at Jacksons Grove Methodist Church in Columbus. The family will receive friends at home on Collinsville Road, Columbus. Memorials may be sent to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 421 N. Trade St., Tryon, NC 28782.

BILLY LEE COX, 67, passed away suddenly on August 7, 1999. JAMES MICHAEL NELSON died on August 2, 1999 at the age of 69 following a brief illness. He was born in Omaha, NE on February 10, 1930 and was raised in Boystown, NE, under Father Flanagan. Mr. Nelson was in the United States Marine Corps and was a Korean War Veteran. After retiring from the City of Tucson, he continued to stay active with his bowling buddies. He is survived by his son, John Ray; daughter-in-law, Linda Wright; and grandchildren, Amber, Karly and Tanner Ray, Sarah Jovan, Suzi and Sam Crabb and Rebecca Cuthbertson. ALLIS, Frances, 86, of Tucson, died at home on August 6, 1999. Mrs. Allis was born in Poland and came to the U.S., settling in Kansas City, MO in 1920. She moved to Tucson in 1994 after the death of Charles S. Allis, her husband of 55 years, in 1991. HARTER, Susan, born Susan Crockert, August 10, 1943 in Dumont, N.J., passed away on August 9, 1999. She is survived by her loving husband, Woody Harter; son, Taylor; brother, James Crockert and numerous cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Claire Crockert. Sue had a fulfilling career of 25 years at Tucson Medical Center where she served in various roles within Nursing Leadership. She was well known throughout the nursing community for her many contributions and her strong commitment for patient advocacy. She proudly served as a volunteer of the American Diabetes Association and as a past President of the Arizona Affiliate of the American Diabetes Association. She was also a Regional Board Member of the American Diabetes Association. Services will be held on Wednesday, August 11, 1999 at 1:30 p.m. in the EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Visitation will take place an hour prior to services. Committal will take place in East Lawn Palms cemetery. MARY ARLINE HOWELL, 91, of Tucson, formerly of Duncan, AZ, passed away July 28, 1999. Daughter of Ina and Samuel Crandal, Mary was born March 28, 1908 in Sheridan, Wyoming and spent most of her childhood in Riverton, Iowa. She was a graduate of Iowa State Teachers College and taught Elementary School in several States. Her last teaching position was 3rd Grade teacher at Duncan Elementary School. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, a brother and sister, husband Harry Hyatt and husband Hugh Howell. She is survived by step-daughter Alice Corales and her four children and families, and many friends who love this very special lady. She has been cared for the past five years by Sabino Canyon (formerly Balmoral) Care Center. Memorial Services and interment will take place in Duncan, AZ. JENSEN, Constance (Connie), born December 17, 1916 in Oshkosh, WI. Died August 6, 1999 in Tucson. Survived by her husband Roger, son Phillip, daughter Gloria (Roger) Ward, grandchildren Hannah, Maxwell and Kiri, one sister Dorothea, one sister-in-law Mary, six nieces and two nephews. Connie taught school in Tucson and was a volunteer for 20 years at Davis Monthan in Family Services. She was a member of Reserve Officers Association Ladies. Connie was an active member of Spanish Trail Lutheran Church since 1964. She was an enthusiastic participant in many activities and was always concerned about the welfare of others. She was loved by all who knew her and will always be remembered with much love by her family and friends. Memorial service will be held Thursday, August 12, at 11 A.M. at Spanish Trail Lutheran Church, 8701 East Old Spanish Trail. PEARSON, Kenneth R., born May 3, 1934, passed away August 5, 1999, after a long illness. Kenneth is preceded in death by his father, Kenneth L. Pearson; mother, Ethel New Pearson; daughter, Karen R. Pearson and brother, Carroll E. Pearson. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Peggy Anderson Pearson; three children, James P. Pearson of Weimar, CA, Patricia L. Pearson of Tucson and David A. Pearson of Tucson. He is also survived by two brothers, Charles W. (Zoanna) Pearson of Detroit, Mich. and Donald L. Pearson of Keego Harbor, Mich.; and a sister-in-law, Dolores Pearson of Livonia, MI; and grandchildren, Jason P. Pearson of Modesto, CA and Jennifer D. Pearson of Sacramento, CA.
