DE LA VARA, David D., 31, died August 16, 1999 in Chicago, Ill. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

KABACK, Erwin Rice, M.D., 90, died August 8, 1999 in Tucson, AZ as a result of a stroke. Dr. Kaback, born in New York City, was a longtime resident of Otisville and Middletown, NY. He was a small-town, country doctor, who practiced general medicine, specialized in surgery, delivered babies, and made house calls for over forty years. He served as President of the Orange County Medical Society and was a member of the International College of Surgeons. Dr. Kaback was on the medical staff of Horton Hospital, Middletown, NY, and served as physician for the Otisville Training School, a state facility for juvenile delinquents.
During World War II, Dr. Kaback served in General Patton's Army and was awarded a Bronze Star and five battle stars. In Otisville, he was president of the Otisville School Board and a village trustee. Dr. Kaback was an avid bridge player, authored a book on the subject, and was recognized as a Life Master by the American Contract Bridge League.
Dr. Kaback was a devoted father and husband. He married the former Genevieve Goldsmith of Mount Hope, NY, 1948. They recently celebrated their 51st anniversary. He is survived by his wife, who currently lives in Tucson, AZ, and his two children, Keith (Debora) Kaback, M.D., also of Tucson, and Dawn (Robert Barnett) Kaback, Ph.D. of Denver, CO. Donations may be made to the Tucson Medical Center Foundation, 5301 E. Grant Rd., Tucson, AZ 85712, or the American Hearth Association, 5325 E. Pima, Tucson, AZ 85712.

KEEFER, Philip H., 59 years old, died Monday, August 16, 1999 in Tucson. Born in September 27, 1939 in Waverly, New York. Survived by his wife, Pat Keefer of Tucson; children, Brian (Gyla) Keefer of Tularosa, New Mexico, Lisa (Tonya) Keefer of Chandler, AZ, Tracy Leary of Tucson, Timothy Keefer and Tristen Keefer both at home; sister, Betty (Bill) Willoughby of Akron, Ohio; brother, Bob (Vera) Keefer of Clinton, Ohio; mother and father-in-law, Betty Bulzomia and Jack Marrs, both of Tucson; five grandchildren. Memorial services will be held Sunday, August 22, 1999 at Tanque Verde Lutheran Church, 8625 E. Tanque Verde, Tucson at 2:30 p.m.

LYONS, Robert J., 81, passed away on August 18, 1999. preceded in death by his son, Michael (Sue) and William (former wife, Nancy). Survived by his wife of 60 years, Wilma; son, Robert (Kathy); daughter, Mary (Robert Tanner); grandchildren, Debbie, Rob, Tracy, Amy, Katie and Jennifer; and great grandchildren, Kim, Sara, Devin and Zachery. Robert was born in Chicago, IL, moved from Indiana to Tucson in 1955 and worked as a member of IBEW Local 570 until 1981. Family and friends are invited to stop by at the family home after 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 22, 1999.

McCURRY, Kenneth Edward, born in Hartford, CT on July 18, 1920, died unexpectedly in Tucson, AZ on August 17, 1999. Ken served in the Air Force during World War II. After his tour of duty, he had a long career in banking, retiring from the Dime Savings Bank in Wallingford, CT as Vice President in 1982. Ken and Rita (wife) moved to Tucson in 1991. Ken leaves his best friend and wife of 53 years, Rita Powers McCurry of Tucson; his daughter, Janice L. McCurry of Florida; his granddaughter, Kristan L. Samperi of CT; his daughter, Cheryl A. Rossi (Tim) of Tucson; his grandsons, Adam, Eric and Scott Rossi of Tucson; niece, Patricia Kohl (Frank) of CT; nephew, William J. O'Day III (Kathy) of North Carolina; sisters in CA, CO and FL and many nieces and nephews throughout the US. Ken was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church and Treasurer of their 50+ Club. Ken loved to play golf, bowl and watch and talk football with his grandsons. The family would like to thank his doctor and Kim of the Tucson Heart Hospital, Carmen and Dallas and Mary and Ray for their support. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Ken's memory or they can sign up to be an organ donor. Please tell someone that you love them everyday. DALE H. ORANGE, 42, passed away Monday, August 16, 1999. Dale leaves behind his best friend and wife, Lori. Other survivors include his mother, Harriet Hoselton, Seminole, OK; stepfather, Larry Hoselton, Tucson; father and stepmother, Larry and Esther Orange, Blairs, VA; brothers, Bert Hoselton, Cleburne, TX, Casey Hoselton, Seminole, OK, Lenny Orange, Richmond, VA; sisters, Patty Myers, Seminole, OK, Dotty Hoselton, Seminole, OK, Beth Jenkins, Tucson, Laurie Klatt, Blairs, VA. Also to include many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and many, many good friends. Memorial service to be held at Saguaro Baptist Church, 10361 E. Old Spanish Trail at 3:00 p.m. A gathering of friends and family will follow in the Santa Catalina Room at the Ramada Inn, 1601 N. Oracle Rd.

PLUNK, Eileen Shirley, age 74, of Tucson, passed away August 16, 1999. She is survived by her husband, Raymond of Tucson and children, Patricia Potter of Utah, Richard of Ohio and Donald of Tucson. A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 23, 1999 at Grace St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 2331 E. Adams St. Arrangements by family owned ADAIR DODGE FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel.

ROBINSON, Thomas Dean, 69 years old, died August 17, 1999 in Tucson. Born on March 4, 1930 in Russell, Iowa. Survived by his wife, Linda Robinson of Tucson; children, Kenny Robinson of Dayton, KY, Debbie Bowland of Denver, CO, Doug Robinson of Campbell, CA; three grandchildren; two brothers and one sister. SKEELS, Jean Louise, age 68, died August 17, 1999. Mrs. Skeels is survived by three stepdaughters, Susan Kay Custer, Ruth Lynn Martin and Sharon Buchner; one foster daughter, Bette L. Yellowhair of Tucson; one cousin, Marjorie Freund of California. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward O. Skeels who died in 1993. Jane was a wonderful Mother and a courageous fighter in the face of physical adversity. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Mrs. Skeels was a member of the Catalina United Methodist Church where she was active in the Women's Fellowship Circle and Choir. Friends may call at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. WELBON, Dorothy K., 90, of Tucson, died August 19, 1999. Born July 16, 1909 in Philadelphia, PA. Survived by husband, Rev. Henry Welbon; daughters, Elizabeth E. Alwood of Lewes, Delaware, Priscilla R. Ewy of Tucson; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren. Service, Monday, 2:00 p.m., Desert Springs Presbyterian Church, 1555 W. Overton Rd. ROSS E. WINTER, 55, of Tucson, died August 15, 1999. He retired with over 25 years of employment from Tucson Electric Power Co. He was preceded in death by his father, Ross W., and his sister, Cindy. He is survived by his mother, Mary; wife, Jackie; sister, Cathey; daughters, Susan, Karrie and Shannon; two grandchildren and numerous relatives. He served seven years nuclear submarine duty in Vietnam. He was a member of Casas Adobes Congregational Church. Friends may call at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave. at Magee from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 20, 1999. Services will be held at Casas Adobes Congregational Church, 6801 N. Oracle at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 21 with Rev. BRAHMS, Harriet, 78, of Tucson, left this world with her angels on August 11, 1999. Formerly of Brooklyn, NY, she was born on December 14, 1920. Harriet was a loving wife, devoted mother and proud grandmother. Harriet is preceded in death by her brother, Bert Moskowitz. She is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years, Ellis; her sons, Lawrence Brahms (Diane) of Eugene, OR, David Brahms (Lisa) of San Juan Capistrano, CA and Fredric Brahms of Tucson. She is also survived by seven grandchildren; Amy, Aaron, Anna, Andrew, Alyssa, Justin and Kelsey. Her soft and calming ways will be missed by all who loved her. Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 22, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. at the EVERGREEN MORTUARY N. Oracle and W. Miracle Mile. Interment to follow in Temple Emanu-El Section, Evergreen cemetery. COPELAND, Frank P., 46, died August 16, 1999. Husband of Darla K. Copeland; father of Jason Golleher, Crystal Garcia and Beverly Davis; Sara Copeland and Dillon Davis of the residence and seven other grandchildren; brother of Tommy Copeland, Melvin Copeland, Jerry Copeland and Bobby Copeland all of Texas. deSIMONE, Adele, a vital, passionate, gifted, sculptor and painter, always generous and full of joy, who has friends around the world, passed away on August 17, 1999. Her nobel and wise spirit lives on in our hearts. She will be missed by Jack, Paul and Diane deSimone, and James, Alex and Zachary Hamilton and many dear friends. GORDON, Betty J., 69, died on August 15, 1999. She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Gordon. She is survived by one son, Timothy McMillan; two grandchildren, Michael and Amanda McMillan; two stepdaughters, Sue and Carol Gordon and two stepsons, Roy and Rick Gordon. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 20, 1999 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, 5401 S. Park Ave. Arrangements made by SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, an aftercare provider.

JERAMIE TYRONE JOHNSON
Beloved Son, Brother, Father, Friend
Tyrone was born June 9, 1971 to Frank and Lois Johnson in Tucson. He attended Cavett Elementary, Utterback Junior High School, and Pueblo High School. He was an all-star football player for Pueblo and helped coach Pop Warner Football. Tyrone went to live with the Lord on Sunday, August 8, 1999 and will be terribly missed. Even though we feel the pain of your absence, we know you are in a better place.
preceded in death by brother, Troy; paternal grandfather, Jabo Johnson; maternal grandparents, Richard and Lillian Kountz; uncles, Richard and Donnie Kountz. He leaves to mourn his parents, Frank and Lois Johnson; brother, Timothy C. Johnson; uncle, James Johnson; aunts, Sandy Kountz and Penny Peachey-Kountz. Tyrone also leaves his precious daughter, Ashley Kiara; and nephews, Timothy, Jr., Covaughn, Caleve and Kaelin. In addition, Tyrone leaves a large extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.

NEWTON-DIAZ DE LEON, Angela Marie, 24, victim of a senseless violent act, born July 25, 1975, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 16, 1999. Beloved mother of Reydaniel; beloved daughter of Debra Newton and Oscar Diaz De Leon (Barbara); beloved companion to Dave Boice and little David; beloved sister of Richard and Jason Newton, Felipe and Rebecca Cruz, Alex and Alana Diaz De Leon; beloved granddaughter of William and Ethel Sharp, Ralph and Olga Diaz De Leon and great-grandparents, Virgil and Vivian Sharp. Also survived by numerous aunts and uncles, great aunts and uncles, and cousins. Visitation 9:00 a.m., services at 11:00 a.m. at Midvale Park Seventh-Day Adventist Church at 2071 W. RING, Leon D., 66, of Tucson, passed away August 17, 1999. Born November 14, 1932 in Zumbrota, MN. Survived by wife, Arlene; daughters, Mona Coury and Marcia Ring; son-in-law, Charles Coury; granddaughters, Rachael Noel Coury and Nicole Edlina Coury; his sister, Janis Thomford; and cousin, Walter Ring. Leon served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He dedicated the next 30 years to the U.S. Border Patrol, retiring in 1983 as Chief Patrol Agent of the Tucson Sector. After retiring, he worked as Head of Security at the U.S. Courthouse in Tucson. Leon will be missed by all who knew him. The family requests no flowers. LYNN HOOD SITES, 75, a longtime resident of Tucson, passed away Sunday, August 15, 1999, following a long illness. preceded in death by her parents Samuel M. Hood and Iva Hood, brothers Eugene and Kenneth, and a sister, Mildred Ramey. She leaves a devoted husband of 54 years, George E. Sites, son George 'Rocky' Sites Jr. (Isabel), and a daughter Ivalynn Graser (Charles). Lynn is survived by two granddaughters, Aija Town and Marissa Sites, and by a sister, Helen Oenning of Memphis, Tennessee, twin brother Carl Hood (Ann) of Memphis, Tennessee, and brothers Stanley Hood (Alvenia) of Columbia, South Carolina, and Jack Hood (Irma) of Lynnwood, Washington. Lynn is also survived by special friend/sister, Joyce Koonce (Naurice) of Tucson. Born in Blytheville, Arkansas, Lynn spent most of her life in Tucson, moving here in 1942. She accompanied her husband to many locations throughout his military career in the U.S. Army, including several years in Ankara, Turkey. Lynn was a born again Christian who loved working with infants in Sunday School and church nurseries. She was especially proud on her work at Davis Monthan AFB during WWII. She later became a professional real estate sales associate, retiring in 1976. Burial services will be private. A memorial service will be held at First Southern Baptist Church, 445 E. Speedway Blvd., on Friday, August 20th at 2:00p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the charity of your choice.

SYLVESTER, Marjorie V., 76, passed away August 17, 1999. Survived by son, Timothy (Teresa) Driscoll of Colebrook, NH and daughter, Patricia (Andrew) Pohorilak of Riverbank, CA; granddaughter, Sage Driscoll of USAF and brother, Melvin Smith of Massachusetts. Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 21, 1999 at HUDGEL'S SWAN FUNERAL HONE, 22nd & Swan.
