HAZEL 'BETSY' (BOWMAN) TUCKER - passed away August 30, 1999 in Tucson, AZ at the age of 89. Born in Caddo Mills, TX on October 5, 1909, she was the daughter of Garnett and Bertha Bowman. preceded in death by her husband, Guernsey Tucker of Waco, TX. She is survived by her son, Thomas (Sherry) Tucker of Terre Haute, IN and her daughter, B.J. Thompson of Tucson, AZ and four grandchildren, Barrie (Mark) Moler of Boulder, CO, Scott Thompson of Tucson, AZ, Tobi Tucker of Tucson and Sarah Palermo of Metheun, MA; two great grandchildren, Sarah and Emily Moler. Betsy is also survived by two sisters, Jimmie Nell Tanner of Tom Bean, TX and Mary Lou DePaoli of Carmel, CA and by a large extended family of nieces and nephews. Eight sisters and one brother preceded her in death.
Prior to her marriage, Betsy was a nurse in Dallas, TX. Following her husbands death in 1940, she became one of the first woman workers in the Bomber Plant of Douglas Aircraft in Tulsa, OK. After the war, she opened a very successful floral business, Betsy's Flowers in Tulsa, OK and operated it for over 35 years. She was named Business Woman of the Year in Tulsa, OK in 1972.
She will be lovingly remembered and missed by all of her family and her many friends. A visitation will take place in the EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd., Tucson on Thursday, September 2, 1999 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in the Caddo Mills Methodist Church, Texas. Burial will follow in the Caddo Mills Texascemetery in the family plot.
WARRIOR, Linda L., 57, Much loved Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. Her Lord called and she answered on August 24, 1999.
Linda is survived by her mother, Mildred Hornbeak; first husband, Clarence M. Warrior; sister, Janice Lyle; brothers, Reubin Hornbeak, Jr. and Alan Murray; soulmate, Freddie Antoine; children, Marvin (Teree), Sylvia (James), Gary (Betty), and Miles. Along with 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren, one niece, four nephews, and a host of family and friends.

MAGNESS, Miyoko, 71, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away on August 29, 1999. She was born to Setsuichi and Sen Nakano in Otake City, Japan and immigrated to the U.S.A. with her son in 1960. She enjoyed many years with specialty restaurants such as Jerry's Ming House and most recently Sakura Restaurant before retiring. She is survived by her son, Bobby Lee; his wife, Jan, and their children, Cameron, Courtney and Connor Magness. ESPERANZA RIVERA MORENO, 93, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away August 31, 1999. SHAW, John C. 'Jack' died Monday, August 30th, 1999, at home in Tucson. Jack was born September 5, 1919 in Redwood Falls, MN; served in the Navy and lived much of his adult life in Lake Preston, SD, where he managed a lumber yard. He was married
to Dorothy Walker, March 28, 1942, who preceded him in death. He married
Jean Mitchell July 15, 1995 and she survives. Survivors also include two daughters, Susan Hampton and Kathy Hugel; son, Ron; a stepdaughter, Alinde Moore and two stepsons, Tom Mitchell and John Mitchell; 12 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren. THOMAS GREGORY CORCORAN, 88, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away on August 29, 1999. Mr. Corcoran was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on May 18, 1911. He entered the hotel business with the Hotel Gibson in Cincinnati, and subsequently held management positions in Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Apache Junction, AZ, Tucson, and Denver. He was manager of the Westward Look Resort from 1970 to 1973. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Dorothy Corcoran of Tucson; son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Valerie Corcoran of Pennington, NJ; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Alton Goodman of Phoenix; daughter and son-in-law, Cathleen and Ed Echt of Denver, Colorado; son, Dr. John Corcoran of Tucson; and 10 grandchildren, Ethan, Matthew, Andrew, Jacqueline, Kevin and Abby Corcoran, Adam and Caitlin Goodman, and Kristin and Susan Echt. Passed on in Dignita Hospice Home, Tucson, Az with family and friends by her side.
Celeste was gentle, soft and sweet. All those that she touched loved her deeply. She will be missed by all of us who experienced the warm embrace of her love. In heaven, she joins the love of her life, Jack Hume, who preceded her in death (1970).
Celeste touched the lives of family and friends in Illinois, Colorado, California and Arizona. She is survived by her daughter, Debra Hume; son-in-law, Randy Brooks of Tucson; son, Stephen Hume; and daughter-in-law, Pam Hume; as well as, grandchildren, Hayden and Rachel of Thatcher, AZ. She will be missed by her cousin and god-daughter, Carol Burwell and her family of Atherton, CA. Her niece, Kathy Hume; and sister-in-law, Pat Hume of Benicia, CA will miss her as well as the Hume families in the Los Angeles area.

WILLIAM F. LEYA, JR., 74, died August 30, 1999. He is survived by three daughters, Jane Moore (Richard) of Tucson, Nancy Paulson (Dennis) of Parker, Colorado, and Patty Tingstad (James); one son, David Leya of Indianapolis, Indiana; one brother, Carl Leya of Pittsburgh, PA; grandchildren, Cindy, Tracy, Sean, Kelly, Sarah, and Christopher; one great-grandson, Gavin. Mr. Leya was preceded in death by his wife, Doris M. Leya who died in 1992. He was a member of the Catalina Rotary Club of Tucson, and was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Zaradatha Lodge F & AM of Pittsburgh, PA. SMITH, Hazel Ailiff, age 94, of Tucson, passed away September 1, 1999. She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth H. Smith; four sisters, and one brother. She is survived by her children, Kenneth (Barbara) Smith of Mountain Home, Arkansas, Raymond (Cindy) Smith of Oceanside, California, and Joe (Tillie) Smith of Tucson; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A gathering will be held 11:00 a.m. Sunday, September 5, 1999 at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. at Speedway. STEVENS, W. Richard, noted author of computer books died on September 1. He is best known for his 'UNIX Network Programming' series (1990, 1998, 1999), 'Advanced Programming in the UNIX Environment' (1992), and 'TCP/IP Illustrated' series (1994, 1995, 1996).
Richard was born in 1951 in Luanshya, Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia), where his father worked for the copper industry. The family moved to Salt Lake City, Hurley, New Mexico, Washington, DC and Phalaborwa, South Africa. Richard attended Fishburne Military School in Waynesboro, Virginia. He received a B.SC. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1973, and an M.S. (1978) and Ph.D. (1982) in Systems Engineering from the University of Arizona. He moved to Tucson in 1975 and from then until 1982 he was employed at Kitt Peak National Observatory as a computer programmer. From 1982 until 1990 he was Vice President of Computing Services at Health Systems International in New Haven, CT, moving back to Tucson in 1990. Here he pursued his career as an author and consultant. He was also an avid pilot and a part-time flight instructor during the 1970's.
He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Sally Hodges Stevens; three wonderful children, Bill, Ellen and David; sister, Claire Stevens of Las Vegas, NV; brother, Bob and wife Linda Stevens of Dallas, TX; nieces, Laura, Sarah, Collette, Christy; and nephew, Brad. He is predeceased by his parents, Royale J. Stevens (1915-1984); and Helen Patterson Stevens (1916-1997). Helen lived in Tucson from 1991-1997, and Royale lived here in the early 1930's attending Tucson High School while his father was treated for TB at the Desert Sanitorium (now TMC).
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Richard's name to Habitat for Humanity, 2950 E. 22nd Street, Tucson, AZ 85713. A memorial service for Richard will be held at St. Phillip's in the Hills Episcopal Church on Tuesday, September 7th at 12:00 noon. Following the service there will be a reception in the Murphy Gallery of the Church. Please wear colorful clothing to the service; Richard loved colors.
