OWEN-Cahill, Jean (Harter), 64, passed away Friday, September 3, 1999 after a lengthy illness. A celebration of her life will be conducted September 7 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 8650 N. Shannon. Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to the start of the service. Jean was born July 7, 1935 in Canton, Ohio. She received a BA from Notre Dame and M.Ed. from University of Arizona. Her parents preceded her in death. VILLAMANA, Louis, age 86, died Sunday September 6, 1999. He is survived by his wife Yvette of Tucson; two sons, Richard and Robert L. Villamana (Patty) both of Tucson; one daughter Yvette M. Villamana (Joe Coon) of Tucson; three grandchildren, Jimmy Di Giacinto of Phoenix, Maggie and Molly Villamana both of Tucson. Mr. Villamana was born in New York City, and was educated at Fordham University School of Pharmacy. He later received his Doctorate of Pharmacy at the University of Arizona. Before moving to Tucson, he and his wife owned and operated a Pharmacy in Rockefeller Center for 20 years. While in Tucson he and his wife owned and operated El Campo Pharmacy for ten years before his retirement in 1983. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 7, 1999 at Adair Funeral Home Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd (at Speedway), with the rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wed. September 8, 1999, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 5150 N. Valley View Rd. Burial will take place in Holy Hope cemetery.
BAMFORD, Kay J., 66, of Tucson, died September 1, 1999. He was the son of William and Catherine Bamford, both deceased of Washington, New Jersey. He is survived by four children, John Bamford, Kevin Bamford, Karen Trevino and Kenneth Bamford; six grandchildren; and six brothers and sisters, June Fox, Betty Romer, Bill Bamford, Neil Bamford, Dale Bamford and Fern Ball. Memorial services were held at Abbey Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, September 7, and services will be held in Washington, NJ at a later date. BECKER, Verna Thomas, 89, died on September 7 in Tucson. She lived in Missouri, Nebraska and Minnesota before marrying Val Becker in 1934 and moving to Tucson. Val was a teacher at the Arizona School for the Deaf and Blind. She loved to tell the story of Val going from Tucson to Minneapolis for the wedding driving a convertible whose top would not go up. After the wedding they drove back to Tucson and the top still wouldn't go up. Val's career eventually took him to Washington D.C., Delavan, Wisconsin, Los Angeles and San Francisco but the fond memories of Tucson were so strong that they returned after his retirement. Val died in 1986. Vern is survived by a daughter Diana and a granddaughter, Rain. Her sister Shirley lives in St. Louis and her brother Ed in Minneapolis. There will be no services.
BLOCKSOM, William Alexander, 76, went suddenly to be with our Lord on September 4th 1999. Beloved husband of 55 years to Marie C. (Hart) Blocksom. EARLOYDE EDMONSON, 73, of Tucson. Born in Clarkdale, AZ March 19, 1926, passed away in Tucson, September 4, 1999. He is survived by two brothers, Munro Edmonson of New Orleans, LA and Travis Edmonson of Mesa, AZ; five children, Christopher Edmondson (Karen), Lee Edmonson (Julie) and Susan Leacock of Phoenix, Earl Edmonson (Terri) and Judith Dodd (Michael) of Tucson and ten grandchildren. Raised in Nogales, AZ, Earloyde served in the Army Air Force in WWII. A graduate of the University of Arizona, he later earned an MA degree in psychiatric social work at USC. He was a psychiatric social worker in Tucson and Wilcox, AZ, and in Truth or Consequences, Soccoro, and Carlsbad, NM, and was one of the founders of Palo Verde Hospital in Tucson. GERTS, Willard T. 'Bill', 83, passed away Saturday, September 4, 1999. SCHIMMEL, Elizabeth Goodspeed 'Libby' 88, passed away peacefully on the morning of August 4, 1999 at Dignita Hospice in Tucson, AZ. By her side was Julie Schimmel who had cared for her during her last four months. SAMUEL 'SAM' SHUFF, age 58, born October 3, 1940 in New York City crossed over September 5, 1999 at Tucson Medical Center Hospice after a brief but intensive battle with liver cancer secondary to Hepatitis C. He is survived by his wife and partner of 38 1/2 years, Dorothy; three children, Didi (Chip) Wood of Redmond, WA, Sam J. (Joy) and Rita (Rich) Garbini of Tucson. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Mathew Jude, Abigail Dawn Shuff and Aidan Fenway Wood; mother and father-in-law, Sam and Dorothy Soviero; brother-in-law, Jim Soviero and family; numerous cousins, aunts and uncle in New York and Florida. A meat cutter all his life, Sam brought his family to Tucson in 1980 where he was employed as a cutter and meat manager for Lucky's then Smith's. He was active in the Sons of Italy in New York and Arizona holding office on both the local and state levels. Sam was an officer in the Italian American Club of Tucson and enjoyed his job as the rental agent for their clubhouse. He was initiated into the Elks Lodge 2532 earlier this year. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 9, 1999 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. with Sons of Italy Service at 8:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Friday, September 10th 1999 at 11:00 a.m., at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1800 N. Camino Pio Decimo St. at Pima where a reception will follow. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to all their friends as well as El Dorado E.R., the following units at U.M.C. – Emergency Room, Pulmonary ICU, Radiology and Liver Transplant team members. A special thank you to Samuel's physician and the staff at Sonora Family Practice as well as the marvelous staff at TMC Hospice. Mr. Shuff's cremains will be laid to his final rest next month in the family plot at St. Patrick's cemetery, Huntington Long Island, N.Y. next to his daughter Elizabeth Ann who predeceased him in 1997. He will be missed by the many who love him. May he rejoice with the angels.
W. LYNN THOMAS, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away in that city on Monday, September 6, 1999 after a life-long battle with diabetes and, more recently, cancer. Born October 2, 1948 in Chicago, Illinois, Lynn was the beloved sister of Andrew Vincent Alder of Tucson, Arizona. preceded in death by her father, Albert V. Alder, Lt. Col., USAF, Lynn is survived by her mother, Winona H. Alder of LaVernia; former husband, Clifford W. Thomas and daughters, Rebecca and Deborah Thomas of San Antonio; brother, Albert V. Alder II and wife, Gloria of Arlington, Texas, and brother, Andrew and partner Juan M. Silva of Tucson, Arizona, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
