SLOYAN, Agnes, 79, of Tucson, passed away September 12, 1999. Mrs. Sloyan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michael Sloyan, Sr. in 1991. She is survived by her loving children, Michael (Edna) Sloyan, Jr., Phillip (Marilyn) Sloyan, Barry Sloyan, Tom (Debbie) Sloyan; her grandchildren, Dan and Bridgid Campbell, Ryan, Megan, Bryan, Louie, Fynnegan, Kelsy and Michael Sloyan, III, in addition to her sister, Geraldine Savage and her great-grandson, Gavin Cambell and Susan O'Conner, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews from Tennessee also survive. SMELTZER, Jean Andrews, age 63, died Sunday, September 11, 1999. She is survived by two sons, Loren L. Smeltzer of Phoenix and David Smeltzer in Texas; six daughters, Kathy James, Susan Jordan, Georgia Schuch and Velma Phillips all in Texas, Kimberly Champion and Janice Hergenreter both of Tucson; two brothers, Stan Andrews in Germany and Andy Andrews in Canada; one grandson, Ryan Schachter of Las Vegas, Nevada. Mrs. Smeltzer was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Smeltzer in 1995, by sons, Warren in 1982 and Neil in 1999. Linda Nason Tilley De Varela, 54, left her body on September 10, 1999 after living triumphantly with ovarian cancer for three years. She joined her father, Henry Raymond Tilley who preceded her in 1956.
Left to carry on her legacy of organization, enthusiasm and love are her family: husband, Francisco E. Varela, Jr.; her sons, Ray, Paco, Javier and daughter-in-law, Elsa; her grandchildren, Linda Paola and Francisco Javier; her mother and stepfather, Lola and Edward Newton and brothers, Jay, Jeff, and Peter Tilley and Burl Newton and their families.
Also left are nieces, nephews, godchildren, all the students she taught during her many years at the Instituto Minerva in Cananea, Sonora, Mexico, and dear friends whose lives she touched through her art, her loving spirit and her belief in life BEFORE death.

YOUNG, Rosalie A., of Tucson, died Saturday, September 11, 1999 after a short illness. Rosalie was born on February 6, 1930, in Zanesville, Ohio. She was graduated from the Zanesville Lash High School. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth, in 1967, and her father, Leonard in 1978. The family moved to Arizona in 1955 for Mr. Young's health.
Rosalie was employed for over 30 years by the City of Tucson, working both for the Water Department and the Computer Data Services. She retired in 1990.
Rosalie was a very active member of Catalina United Methodist where she sang in the Sanctuary Choir for 40 years. She was also active in her United Methodist Women's Circle and the Homebuilder's Sunday School Class. Rosalie's other extended family was the Fraternal Naomi-Rebekah Lodge #4 where she was elected Grand Matriarch L.A.P.M., District Deputy President, Noble Grand and State Musician. For the past five years 'Rosie' was also the State Sunshine Lady.
Rosalie would want to give special thanks to the Tucson Medical Center and TMC Hospice Unit for their loving and compassionate care. Memorials may be made to the Sanctuary Choir of Catalina United Methodist Church.

JAMES GLENTON BOYER, 35, died Thursday, September 9, 1999 in a climbing accident on Mt. Lemmon. Climbing was one of his passions. He is survived by his parents, Georgiana and John Boyer; sisters, Leslie Boyer Hassen, Diane Boyer and Constance Boyer Choza; brother, Quentin Boyer; brothers-in-law, Charles Hassen and Gabriel Choza; nieces and nephew, Juliana Choza, Amelia Hassen and Maxwell Hassen; and by numerous other dear family and friends.
Jim graduated from the University of Arizona, where he received both a BA and an MA in journalism. He worked as a free lance journalist, contributing to the Tucson Weekly, City Magazine, Phoenix Magazine, Arizona Highways, Rock & Ice, Men's Journal, Destination Discovery Magazine and Discovery Channel On Line. His specialty was adventure journalism, which led him from the bottom of the Pacific to the summit of Mt. McKinley. In the past two years his interest in law led him to the UA College of Law, where he was a second-year student at the time of his death.

EDWARDS, Gladys V., born September 27, 1917, passed away September 13, 1999. She was born in Leeds, England and came to this country with her husband in 1950. She has lived in Tucson since 1959. She was the first cafeteria manager at Sahuaro High School when it opened. She retired from there to care for her husband until his death. She is survived by a daughter, Christine (Dave) Lillie; son, Guy (Trish) Edwards; and three grandchildren, Jim (Angie) of CA, Tim of Tucson and Shanna (Chris) of S. Carolina. SHIRLEY TRABERT, a longtime resident of Olathe, Kansas, died September 9, 1999 in Tucson, Arizona. Born on February 17, 1924 near Spring Hill, Kansas, Mrs. Trabert was the daughter of the late Howard and Mary Russell and the sister of the late Bob Russell of Olathe.
Mrs. Trabert graduated from Olathe High School in 1941 and married
Orin Trabert in April 1942. During her life, she worked as a proofreader for the Democrat paper (even though she was a Republican), held a position in the Johnson County courthouse and was a realtor for ten years. Her primary role was that of a wife and mother. She raised five children and was a second mother to various children that she cared for in the home.
Through the years, Mrs. Trabert was a seventh degree Granger, 4-H leader, officer of the Jaycee Jaynes, member of the Women's Faculty Club of the University of Arizona in Indian cultures, and a member of the 4-Wheelers Club of Tucson. Mrs. Trabert was a member of the Nazarene church.
Mrs. Trabert moved to Tucson in 1988 due to health reasons. She will be interned at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Olathe, Kansas. Survivors include her husband, Orin of Tucson, AZ; her children, Mary Kay Poland of Marietta, GA, Pat of Olathe, KS, Mike of Naperville, IL, Joanne Ashton of Silver Spring, MD and Tim of Kansas City, KS, as well as her father-in-law, Harold Jacobson; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
