HARUDA, Joseph S., Ph.D., of Tucson, died September 30, 1999. Husband of Iva F. of Tucson; father of Fred D. Haruda, M.D of Tucson; three grandchildren; brother of Anne Nielsen of Columbia, Missouri. Funeral services private. Interment I.O.O.F. cemetery, Ellensburg, Washington. Arrangements by ABBEY FUNERAL CHAPEL, 3435 N. 1st Ave., Tucson, Arizona, (888-1111).

EDWARD JAMES LIBERTY, 79 years old, passed away September 28, 1999. He was born and raised in Traverse City, Michigan. Then after a career in the Coast Guard, he worked as a Master Mechanic and became an accomplished artist in Tucson where he spent his last 28 years. preceded in death by June B. Liberty; his loving wife of 24 years. Survived by sister, Lillian Griffin; sons, Timothy, Daniel (Cleda), Robert (Suzanne), William (Puanani); daughters, Gloria, Mary (Dave), Sandra (James), Linda (Chuck); stepson, Steven (Joan) Vosburgh; 18 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and many other friends and relatives, all of whom will miss him. A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 4, 1999, 11:00 a.m. at Holy Way Presbyterian Church, 4221 W. Ajo Way. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel.

RALPH E. MAJORS, 89, of Tucson, died September 29, 1999. Born June 2, 1910 in Plattsmouth, NE. Survived by wife, Viola S. Majors of Tucson; daughter, Beverly A. Jones of Tucson; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren. Service Monday, 11:00 a.m., EVERGREEN MORTUARY. Interment will follow Evergreen cemetery. MENICH, Edward Paul, 81, died September 29, 1999. Father of Nancy Henderson of El Cajon, CA and Carol Putnam of San Diego, CA; grandfather of Noel and Kayla Henderson of El Cajon, CA; brother of Anna Menich and Bess Gelasi of Illinois. Mr. Menich was preceded in death by his wife, Jean in 1992. He was born in Chicago and lived there until moving to Tucson in 1985. He was a veteran of WWII and a member of the Elks Lodge. Funeral service 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 1, 1999 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

NAVARRETTE, Diego Armando, Sr., 85, resident of Anaheim, California for 40 years, passed away September 26, 1999 of natural causes. Diego was a retired Aircraft Mechanical Engineer. Survived by wife, Stella Navarrette; sons, Diego, Jr. (Elena), Ronald (Elgene), David (Linda) and Ricardo (Particia) Naverrette; daughters, Artella (James) Hughes, Dianna Stream and Deborah (Michael) McGrath. Also survived by 23 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 02, 1999, 11:30 a.m. at Holy Hope cemetery, 3555 N. Oracle Road. PHYLISS C. PICHETTO - Memorial services for Philimina 'Phyliss' Carmella Pichetto, 84, longtime resident and businesswoman of Tucson will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 4th at St. Peter and Paul Church, Tucson. She died Wednesday, September 29, 1999, in TMC Hospice Unit, of natural causes. Born to Michaelangelo and Bettina Greco Santangelo June 30, 1915 in New Castle, PA, one of six children.
Phyliss grew up and married in Pennsylvania before relocating to Tucson in 1952 where she later owned and operated several businesses including Phyliss' Indian Jewelry and Antique Store located at Prince and Campbell Roads. In 1978 Phyliss married Peter Pichetto, also of Tucson.
Throughout her life, Phyliss was recognized by all who knew her as being an ingenious and enterprising businesswoman. Those close to her will remember Phyliss as a kind, hard working, and loving matriarch fiercely protective of her family.
Survivors include her husband, Peter of the home; two sons, David Eugene (Nancy) Ferrara and Robert Edward (Lori) Ferrara, both of Tucson and a daughter, Marlena Ferrara also of Tucson; one sister, Anna Maiorano of Akron, OH; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Well wishers and all who knew Phyliss are encouraged to attend the service. Donations may be made to TMC Hospice Unit, 5301 E. Grant, Tucson, 85712.

VanEck, Eleanor B., 82, died September 28, 1999. Mother of Fran (Warren) Bossenbroek of California, Loraine Chapman of Tucson and Cordell (Mary) VanEck of Missouri; grandmother of seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends also survive. Eleanor's most enjoyable moments were spent in the service of her church, by the lakes and streams of Northern Arizona, and surrounded by family members on holidays and celebrations. Graveside service 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 2, 1999 at TMP East Lawn cemetery. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

REBECCA S. ADAMS, 84, a kind, loving mother and grandmother, passed away September 15, 1999. Within our hearts she leaves a gift of many precious memories…she leaves a legacy of love for all of her family and friends. She is survived by seven children: her daughter and son-in-law in Tucson, Toni and Tino Saccani; Dick (Bonnie) Adams of Gwinn, MI; Dianne (Al) Shulusky of Modesto, CA; Chuck Adams of Flagstaff; Bob (Wendy) Adams of Prescott, Corky (Victoria) Adams of Santa Fe, NM; Michael (Cheryl) Adams of Happy Jack; and by sixteen grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on October 9th at the Blue Ridge Christian Church in Happy Jack. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 5325 E. Pima, 85712.

ANDREWS, Julie Y., 78, November 7, 1920 – September 30, 1999. Born in Glendale, AZ.
Arizona native, Julie Y. Andrews passed away September 30, 1999. Julie's husband preceded her in death. She is survived by two sisters, Josephine Hamlett of Tucson and Elouise Ewan of Tempe. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Julie was a bright and shining star in all of our lives and she will be profoundly missed. Love and gratitude to her doctors and nurses at Tucson General for everything they did. Also Vista Care and Manor House Hospice – Thank You for taking such wonderful care of our sister and aunt.

SIDNEY J. LELUAN, SR., 68, lost his battle with cancer on September 30, 1999. He is preceded in death by his wife of more than 40 years, Patsy. He leaves behind a loving and grateful son and daughter-in-law, Sid III and Debbie Leluan; daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Thomas Magurany; eight grandchildren, Tommy, Chris, Megan, Steven, Katie, Nicholas, Anna and Tony; sister, many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends in the U.S. and Canada. Sid proudly served for 20 years in the U.S. Air Force and was a 4th Degree Knight and member of Ave Maria Council K. of C. and a member of Marion McDaniel Lodge, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, and Sabbar Shrine. Known and respected for his generous and jovial spirit, Sid will be missed not only by those who loved him, but also by those who knew him. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 2, 1999, 11:00 a.m. at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge at Speedway. Entombment will follow at the Queen of All Saints Mausoleum at Our Lady of the Desert cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to your favorite charity in his honor and name.

MARSHALL, Russell Leon - Russell was born in Topeka, Kansas on June 15, 1905, the only son of Bessie (Green) and Jesse Marshall. In 1911 the family moved to Chicago where Russ received his education from the public schools. He graduated from the University of Chicago with a Bachelor of Philosophy in 1931. He was employed as clerk/carrier for the United States Post Office for 38 years and after retirement taught in the public school system of Chicago. He was baptized into the Roman Catholic faith in 1926 and in 1974 he was ordained a permanent Deacon of the Catholic Church. Deacon Marshall lectured and traveled internationally promoting the Billings method of spacing births using natural means. He served as assistant Catholic Chaplain at the Cook County Department of Corrections for 15 years, where he received the St. Stephen award for his work. In 1989 he relocated to Tucson, Arizona. After he took up residence in the Villa Maria apartments he was granted the faculties of the Permanent Diaconate for the Diocese of Tucson. In this capacity he gave much spiritual comfort, counsel and support to the residents, visitors and staff members at Villa Maria where he died on September 19, 1999. This patient, dedicated, kind and saintly man will be missed greatly by all those to whom he ministered. The Most Rev. Bishop Moreno will offer Mass for Deacon Marshall at the Villa Maria Care Center Chapel on Wednesday, October 6th, at 10:00 a.m. Interment after the Mass is to be at Our Lady of the Desert cemetery.

VALENZUELA, Arthur, passed away September 30, 1999. Survived by wife, Ymelda Lucero Valenzuela; daughters, Belia 'Bea' (Robert) Corral and Genevieve (Brock) Cochrane; sisters, Rosario Orozco and Amalia Ward; brothers, Fred and Vicente Valenzuela; three grandchildren, Brock (Claudia) Cochrane, Richard Cochran and Michelle (Martin) De La Ossa. Also survived by two great-granddaughters. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 03, 1999 from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY, (South Chapel), 240 S. Stone Ave., with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Monday, October 04, 1999, 10:30 a.m. at Santa Cruz Church, 1220 S. 6th Ave. Interment to follow at Holy Hope cemetery. Mr. Valenzuela retired from Evergreen Air Park in Marana as a Aircraft Painter. The Valenzuela family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Manor Care Health Center for the care of our husband, father, and grandfather. WHITAKER, Martha Louise, 80, of Tucson, went to be with the Lord on September 30, 1999. Survivors include her husband, William; children, Connie, Bruce, Barry and Valerie; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two brothers, Robert and Edward Beaty; one sister, Ruth Mossman; two stepdaughters and four step grandchildren. Born May 21, 1919 in Paton, Iowa to Maude and Earl Beaty, she graduated from Nevada High School in 1937 and married Kenneth Dayton in 1939. Louise was employed at Iowa State University as a secretary for 16 years, retiring in 1981. She and Kenneth relocated to Tucson in 1981. After Kenneth died on February 15, 1982, Louise married William H. Whitaker on June 4, 1983. Traveling extensively with Bill during their 16 years of marriage, her primary interests included swimming, golf, reading, but more importantly her family and home. Funeral service will be held at West Ajo Baptist Church, Saturday, October 2 at 10:30 a.m. with visitation one hour prior. Interment will be in Ames, Iowa beside her first husband, Kenneth Dayton. Donations may be made to West Ajo Baptist Church. Arrangements by SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY.

DERBY, Mildred Gulick, 83, died at home September 23, 1999. She was born June 16, 1916 in Burlington, Iowa. Mildred graduated from the University of Minnesota, and was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. She was the widow of Philip N. Derby who passed away in 1995. They moved to Tucson with their family in 1954. Mildred was a homemaker, and part-time unemployment claims deputy for the State of Arizona prior to retirement. She is survived by her son, Newton B. Derby (Violet) of Houston, Texas; her daughter, Lynn Derby Helmke (David) of Glendale, AZ; her four grandchildren, Matthew D. Helmke (Heather) of Flagstaff, AZ; Caroline Derby Hafling (Deane), Laura and Ellen Derby of Houston, Texas; and her twin sister, Marie G. Esau of Tucson. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, October 7 at 10:00 a.m. at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway, Tucson. Memorial contributions may be made to Tucson Medical Center Hospice Care or the charity of one's choice.

FETSKO, Frank George. Mass for Frank G. Fetsko, a resident of Manhattan Beach, CA, for 35 years, will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 5 at St. Joseph Church. Visitation will be 9:00 to 9:30 a.m. on October 5 at WOLFREY PEACE MORTUARY. Frank was born January 14, 1927 in Farrell, PA and went home to Our Lord on September 29, 1999 in his summer home in Coburg, OR. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary E. Fetsko. He is survived by his loving children, Bill (Marjorie) of Adrian, MI; Debbie (Tom) Feeley of Palmdale, CA; Bobbie (Bill) Marshall of Boulder Creek, CA; Frank George, Jr. (Tara) of Coburg, OR; and nine grandchildren.

GAGNEBIN, Ross L., 83, died Friday, October 1, 1999. Survived by two daughters; grandchildren; great-grandchildren. Private services. Arrangements by EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY.

BRAD P. GORMAN - 'Brad Sold Mine' is a slogan that is well known by many Tucson residents. Brad Gorman, a longtime Tucson resident, was a loving father, husband, son, brother, and friend that was taken from us much too soon on September 30, 1999. Brad was born January 24, 1958 in Lowell, Massachusetts. He lived in Tucson for 33 years and graduated from Amphitheater High School. Brad was an avid bicyclist, racquetball and softball player.
Brad began his Real Estate career in Tucson more than 20 years ago. The last 14 years he worked for Realty Executives. During his successful career at Realty Executives he was a member of the '100% Club' and the 'Executive Club National Top 10%' numerous times. Brad treated each of his clients as if they were members of his family.
Brad is survived by his loving wife, Rhonda Ledbetter Gorman; and his precious daughter, Devin. He is also survived by his parents, Jean and Jim Gorman; sisters, Cynthia J. (Jerry), Elli J.; brother, Jim H. (Alyce); grandmother, Lucille 'Nana' Gouveia; and many nieces and nephews, as well as his mother-in-law, Maydelle Ledbetter of Sierra Vista.
Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 6, 1999 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 824 N. 2nd Ave. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Casa De Los Ninos, American Heart Association, or the National Arthritis Foundation. MIGALIC, Helen, 82, of Tucson, died October 1, 1999. Born November 6, 1916 in Woodlawn, PA. Survived by daughters, Jean (Bill) Weltz of Tucson; Betty Ann (Richard) Beck of West Lawn, PA; sister, Emily Link of Suffolk, VA; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild. She was a member of Croatian Fraternal Union of America and Armory Park Senior Center. Memorial Service Tuesday, 11:00 a.m., Armory Park Senior Center, 220 S. 5th Avenue. RENZ, Miriam E., 89, of Tucson, AZ, passed away October 1, 1999. She was born and raised in Iowa but lived in Tucson for the past 36 years. She was an active member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church and had worked at Tucson Public Library. She was involved in many organizations including Presbyterian Women, A.A.U.W., League of Women Voters, Tucson Girls Club and P.E.O. Miriam was known by family and friends for her outlook on life and positive attitude. Her supportive and loving nature was an inspiration to all who knew her. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Malcolm and Cheryl Renz; daughter and son-in-law, Maureen Esch and Leroy Brimager; grandchildren, Martin and wife, Monica; Marlene; Mitchell; and Joshua; brother, Mark (Gwen) Yaggy; sister, Marcia (John) Meyer; and nieces and nephews, Gayle, Joel, Elizabeth, William, and Thomas. Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 5, 1999 at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 750 W. Chapala Dr., with Rev. Joe Bettridge officiating.
