Winifred M. Soares in Alameda on October 8, 2001. Loving mother of Gregory Soares of San Francisco, CA and Yvon Soares of Alameda, CA. Dear sister in law Beverly Difiore of Cincinnati, OH. Also survived by a dear daughter in law Danushka Soares, numerous nieces, nephews and Dear friends David Murphy and Bobbie Carash. A native of the San Francisco Bay area aged 79 years. She worked for Livingston Brothers Dept. Store for 20 years and retired from the San Francisco Newspaper Guild. We will always love her and she will be missed by those touched by her beauty and grace. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Heart Association 11200 Golf Links Rd Oakland, CA 94605.

Cloice Lorein Keathley
February 18 1922 - October 10 2001

Cloice Lorein Keathley, 79, passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2001 at Washington Hospital in Fremont, California. She was born on February 18, 1922 in Enola, Arkansas. She has been a resident of Fremont, California for 30 years. Cloice liked to bowl and play bingo. She was a Cosmetologist early in life and worked for Safeway for 29 years later in life as a Meat Wrapper.
Cloice is survived by her loving daughter, Shirley J. Dailey of Fort Dick, California. She also leaves behind a two dear brothers, Ezra Keathley and B.C. Keathley both of Arkansas. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lessie Foster , a brother, Reggie Keathley and a granddaughter, Sherrine Nordby. She has two wonderful grandchildren, Lorri Penner of Fort Dick, California and Jerry Mc Cortney of Las Vegas, Nevada. She also has four very special great-grandchildren, Jack Nordby of Carmichael, Kala Penner of Fort Dick, Cortney Penner of Fort Dick and Lorrin Penner of Fort Dick, California.

Family and Friends are invited to attend a Visitation on Sunday, October 14, 2001 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home and a Funeral Service on Monday, October 15, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home – Reflection Chapel with Interment to follow at Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park; 32992 Mission Boulevard, Hayward, CA 94544.

Dear grandfather of Theresa Sturges and great-grandfather of Justin Ray Sturges Ellis and Jasmine Louise Cooper. A native of Marshall, Texas, aged 84 years. A member of Railroad Retirement Club, Master Mason Lodge #4. Worked at Naval Supply Center for over 25 years. Served in the United States Navy in Bremerton, Washington, San Francisco and Pearl Harbor. Jeffery "Jeff" Lewis Culin
July 26 1953 - October 15 2001

CULIN, Jeffery “Jeff” Lewis - passed away on October 15, 2001. Daughter of Emma and Lewis Culin. Jeff was born in Johnstown, PA in 1953 and resided in Fremont since 1988. He is loved and will be profoundly missed by Incha, his wife of twenty-four years, sister Rachel Kavanaugh, sons James Culin, and Edward Culin, and many dear friends. Jeff was a member of Warm Springs Church. He was a Parking Officer for 12 years at Cal State University of Hayward. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a collector of stamps and chess sets. Jeff loved his movies, especially westerns.
Visitation will be held Friday, October 19, 2001 from 5:00 p.m. 8:30 p.m. at Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home in Hayward. Friends are welcome to attend a memorial service on Saturday, October 20,2001 at 1:30 p.m. in the Reflection Chapel at Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home. Robert "Bob" Ives
April 12 1913 - October 12 2001

Robert “Bob” Ives, 88, entered into rest on Friday, October 12, 2001 at the Sunbridge Convalescent Hospital in Hayward, California. He was born on April 12, 1913 in Hartford, Wisconsin. Bob has been a resident of Castro Valley, California for 25 years. He was a Vice President for 15 years for W.T. Grant Company and worked for them for a total of 45 years.
Bob is loved and will be profoundly missed by Jane A. Ives, his wife of 67 years, daughter Cheryl Coffey and son-in-law John Coffey of Castro Valley, California, son Gary R. Ives of Castro Valley, California, three grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

A Cryptside Service will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park; 32992 Mission Boulevard, Hayward, CA 94544

Helen Therese Lynch
July 5 1925 - October 11 2001

Helen Therese Lynch, 76, passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2001 at St. Rose Hospital in Hayward, California. She was born on July 5, 1925 in Massachusetts. She has been a resident of Hayward, California for 50 years. She was a Nurse and a Teacher of Nursing at Providence Hospital for 45 years in Providence, Rhode Island. She served in the U.S. Navy. She graduated from U.C. Berkeley.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 43 years, Luther Lynch. She is survived by her dear sister, Rita Tyler of Massachusetts and two brothers, Frank Creeden and Edward Creeden both of Hayward, California.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, October 19, 2001 at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church; 703 “C” Street, Union City, CA 94587. A Nicheside Service will follow at Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park; 32992 Mission Boulevard, Hayward, CA 94544.

Lois Maxine Smith
May 5 1926 - October 10 2001

LOIS MAXINE SMITH has gone to be with God. Born May 5, 1926 to Lee Clarence Birmingham and Irma J. Young in Sapulpa, OK. On March 8, 1945, she marriage George C. Smith, Sr., who preceded her in death.
She is survived by her brothers Donald O. Birmingham of Sacramento; Vaughn Joel Birmingham of Stockton; and her sister, Cecilia M. Birmingham of Stockton. A loving mother to eight children: Kathryn Wiggins, Atiim (Veta) Smith, Robert D. Smith, Joyann Willis, Avis Marilyn Moore, Howard Roy Smith, Darla Smith, all of Sacramento; and Joseph C. Smith of Atlanta, GA., 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild.

A community activist and pioneer, cofounder of the Del Paso Heights Youth Group, member of the Sacramento Chapters of the NAACP, Black Caucus and Urban League. She spent her life as a homemaker and diligently worked in the community of Del Paso Heights and she was always trying to feed people. She was a devoted and faithful member of the Church of Christ for over 50 years in both Sacramento and Sapulpa. When she went home she was an active member of May Street Church of Christ. Her door was always open to anyone who needed help.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation Wednesday, October 17, 2001 from 4 to 8 pm at Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes-4701 Marysville Blvd-Sacramento(922-5833) and a Celebration of Her Life during funeral services Thursday, October 18 at 1:00 pm at May Street Church of Christ-4042 May St.-Sacramento. Interment will follow at Sunset Lawn Memorial Park.

Gilbert B. Wheeler
November 20 1921 - October 13 2001

Gilbert B. Wheeler a Union City resident entered into rest Saturday October 13, 2001 in Hayward at St. Rose Hospital. Born in Missouri on November 20, 1921, he was 79 years of age.
Loving father of Sherrie Herrera of Elk Grove, California, Linda Kaloostian of Hayward, California and Ronny Wheeler of Niles, California. Devoted grandfather of 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Gilbert worked for Operating Engineers for over 40 years. He was a Sergeant in the Army during WWII.

Friends are welcome to attend a funeral service Wednesday October 17, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. at Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park and Funeral Home in Hayward.

Frank John Love
November 9 1947 - October 9 2001

LOVE, FRANK JOHN, passed away in San Francisco on October 10, 2001. He was the loving son of Frank Andrew Love and Catherine Mary (Judge) Love, who preceded him in death. He was the loving brother of Stuart Love and the late James Love. He was the loving uncle of Bonnie Love and Loving nephew of Jack and Agnes Moie. His cousins also survive him: Jack, Jean, Tom, Laura, Sandy, Sharon, Steve and Julie.
A native of San Francisco, he was 53 years of age. He was an employee of Chapel of the Chimes, Oakland. He will be forever in our hearts.

Friends are invited to attend Viewing on Saturday, October 13th at 12:00pm and Funeral Services at 1:00pm the Chapel of the Chimes, 4499 Piedmont Avenue in Oakland.

James "Sundance" Herring
December 27 1927 - October 22 2001

James “Sundance” Herring a Hayward resident entered into rest Monday, October 22, 2001 in Hayward. Born in Inglewood, Colorado on December, 27, 1927, he was 73 years of age. James served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean War. He was a salesman for Montgomery Wards and Prudential Life Insurance Company for 40 years. He was a member of the San Leandro Golf Men’s Club. He was an avid fisherman, golfer, hunter, outdoorsman and gardener.
Dearly beloved husband of Virginia M. Herring. Loving father of Kimberly Peppard of Reno, Nevada, Karen Herring-Fimby of Sparks, Nevada and Kenneth Herring of San Lorenzo. Dear brother of Marilyn Hyten of Aurora, Colorado, Gwendolyn Short of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Babe Snow of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Bob Herring of Hayward. Devoted grandfather of one grandchild. He was preceded in death by one sister Lilian Cook and one brother Kenneth Herring.

Shiro Jug Takeshita
September 7 1921 - October 15 2001

Shiro "Jug" Takeshita passed away in San Leandro, CA on October 15, 2001. He was the beloved husband of Ikuko "Cookie" Takeshita of San Leandro and the dear brother of Dr. Masao (Aiko) Takeshita, Shigeo (Aiko) Takeshita, Dr. Saburo Takeshita and Goro Takeshita. He was the brother-in-law of Mas Takano and Terrie Isono. He is survived by his nephews: Paul Takeshita, Dr. Craig Takeshita, Bruce Takeshita, John Mark Nishimoto, Peter Nishimoto, Richard Isono, Dr. Steven Isono and Kent Takano; and, his nieces: Ann Cohen, Jean Ho, Lani Kotcher and Julie Peters. He is also survived by many grand nieces and nephews.
A native of Salinas, CA, he was 80 years of age. He was a member of the 442nd RCT Veterans Association, Japanese American Citizens League and the Alameda Buddhist Adult Association.

Friends are invited to call at the Chapel of the Chimes, 4499 Piedmont Avenue in Oakland on Monday, October 22, 2001, from 10:00AM to 2:00PM and to attend Funeral Services at the Alameda Buddhist Church, 2325 Pacific Avenue in Alameda on Monday evening at 7:00PM. Dear grandfather of Amy Lambrecht, Naoto Kawamura , Irene Kawamura, Kyle Kawamura, Matthew Kawamura and Lindsey Kawamura and great-grandfather of Aidan Lambrecht, Jack Lambrecht and Maia Kawamura. A native of Alameda, CA aged 95 years. A member of Alameda JACL, Buena Vista United Methodist Church, Extending Connections, The Swinging Samurai Golf Club. Retired from Mitsui Co, New York in 1972.

Brown, Ocie Brown, Herman Brown, Jr., Freeman Brown, daughters Darlean Wright-Hurd, Gloria Persons, sons Prentiss Cole, Michael Brown, eleven Grandchildren, one great grandchild and many dear friends.
