Joanne Marie Jones, a 16 year resident of Hayward entered into rest on Wednesday, October 24, 2001 due to cancer. She was an Oakland, Ca. native born on October 11, 1951 to the late Phyllis Lardie & Richard G. Curtis.
Joanne enjoyed crocheting and watching the Raiders and Oakland A’s. She would watch cooking shows and then try new recipes on family and friends. She worked at Owens Brockway Glass Company for 27 years.

Loving companion of Al Apodaca of Hayward. Dearly beloved mother of Alissa M. Apodaca of Hayward. Special sister of Carole E. Culbreath of Pleasanton, Catherine J. Morris of Brentwood, James R. Curtis of El Dorado Hills, John S. Curtis of Newark and the late Susan Virgillo. Dear aunt of six nieces and nephews. Loving lifetime friend of Danielle M. Addis of Castro Valley.

Georgine “Dolly” Constance Yang a Hayward resident entered into rest Monday, October 22, 2001 in Hayward. Born in Belgium on July 16, 1914, she was 87 years of age. Dolly was a member of the Senior Center in Fremont, CA. She was an avid majong player. She traveled all over the world as she accompanied her husband on business. She lived in China for several years. She was best known for her lemon ice and walnut cakes. She enjoyed gardening especially tending to her roses. She also spoke three languages; Chinese, French and English. She was a homemaker for 62 years.
Loving mother of Catherine Lo of Florida, Jacqueline Fisher of Hancock, MA and Jack Yang of Colorado. Devoted grandmother of six grandchildren.

Visitation will be held October 26, 2001 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward. Friends are welcome to attend a Funeral service October 26, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. in the Reflection Chapel at Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home, 32992 Mission Blvd., Hayward, CA.

Joseph Colon a Fremont resident entered into rest Sunday, October 28, 2001 in his home in Fremont, CA. Born in Honolulu, HI on August 27, 1924, he was 77 years of age.
Dearly beloved husband of Caroline S. Colon and loving father of Toni Sayers of Turlock, CA, Lovina Martinez of San Francisco, CA, Lucille Colon of San Francisco, CA and Joseph Colon, Jr. of Fountain, OH. Dear brother of Pauline Lopez of Las Vegas, NV, Vivian Rodriguez of Melbrae, CA, Vicki Jane Arellano of San Francisco, CA and Raymond Colon of Hayward, CA. Devoted grandfather of twenty-six grandchildren and great grandfather of 12 grandchildren. Joseph Colon was a boxer in his early years in the 40’s and 50’s. He loved to dance, he loved all sports and he was especially a 49’ er fanatic. He always liked to party. One of his most favorite pass times was spending time with his family and friends. Joseph worked for 40 years as a Welder for Pacific Coast Shipyards.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 30, 2001 and Wednesday, October 31, 2001from 5:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward. Friends are welcome to attend the Rosary on Wednesday, October 31, 2001at 7:00 p.m. in the Reflection Chapel at Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, November 1,2001 at 1:30 p.m. with the Interment to follow.

Ralph Henry Whitehead Sr.
April 3 1921 - November 8 2001

Ralph Henry Whitehead Sr. a Hayward resident entered into rest Thursday, November 8, 2001 in Castro Valley. Born in Hersey, Maine on April 3, 1921, he was 80 years of age. Ralph enjoyed camping and traveling. He was a mechanic for Hunt-Wesson food in Hayward for over 15 years. He was a WWII veteran, a former member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Castro Valley.
Loving father of Myra Ferraro of Santa Clara, Elaine Morris of Urbana, Missouri, Janice Barry of San Ramon and Arthur Whitehead of Citrus Heights. Dear brother of Roger Whitehead of Bangor, Maine. Devoted grandfather of fourteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren

George Cambell Jones, Jr.
July 24 1910 - November 2 2001

Jones, George Cambell (Cam)-Nov 2, 2001. Aged 91 years. Born in Berkeley, CA in 1910, graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from Stanford, University-class of '32. After 20 years with FMC, he retired in 1965, and went into business for himself. A 40-year resident of Piedmont. He was a sailor, hiker, traveler, artist, and during the last 15 years of his life, an avid rower and member of the Lake Merrit Rowing Club.
Cam is survived by his ever beloved wife of 61 years, D'Anne, and his four children: Jaquith (Patrick) Travis, Bob (Jane) Jones, Dan (Maile) Jones, and Alison (Derek) Green; and his grandchildren; Megan, Robin, and Cambell Jones, Michael Travis, Natalie Jones, and Shelby, Cecily, and Nathan Green.

A private service will be held.

ABEL CUSTODIO December 16, 1934 – November 1, 2001 Abel Custodio, loving husband of Japet Manliclic Custodio for 44 years passed away on November 1, 2001. He is survived by wife, daughter, Marites Penaranda, three sons, Ellis, Joel and Riel, sister, Ising Custodio and six grandkids, Marvin, MG, Mallorie, Jobel, Jenalee and Angel. Abel was currently employed as an Aircraft Mechanic with Continental Airlines for 14 years. During that tenure, he never missed a single day of work. His previous employment with other companies also as an Aircraft Mechanic has brought him and his family through various parts of the world from Thailand with Air America, to Iran with Iran Air Industries, to the Philippines with the USAF and Manila International Airport Service Company, and finally to the US with World Airways and Continental Airlines.
Friends and Family are invited to attend the Visitation on Friday, November 9, 2001 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. at Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home – Mission Chapel with Interment to follow at Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park; 32992 Mission Boulevard, Hayward, CA 94544.

Henry A. Topolinski a San Leandro resident entered into rest Tuesday, November 6, 2001 in San Leandro. Born in Alberta, Canada on October 15, 1916, he was 85 years of age. He was raised in the Hawaiian Islands in the 1920’s and moved to San Leandro in 1954. A member of A.A.R.P. and N.A.R.F.E. and the local Hawaiian Club. He loved to dance with the local dancing clubs. He was a survivor of the Pearl Harbor Bombings. He will be missed by many relations in Hawaii and Canada.
Loving father of Henry A. Topolinski and George R. Topolinski both of San Leandro. Dear brother of Mary Fung, Violet Carrera, Joseph Topolinski, John Topolinski, Amel Topolinski and Mike Topolinski all from Hawaii.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 13, 2001 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward. Friends are welcome to attend a Funeral service at 1:30 p.m. in the Reflection Chapel at Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home.

Gordon B. Illes 80, of Hayward passed away November 4, 2001 at Washington Hospital in Fremont. Born July 7, 1921 in Whitman, Massachusetts.
Dearly beloved husband of Helen S. Illes of Hayward for 18 years. Loving father of Bob Illes and his wife Sandi of Fremont, Larry Stones of Hayward, Dennis Stones and his wife Denise of Fremont, and the late Wayne Illes. Devoted grandfather of Brian Stones of Los Angeles, Eric Stones, Stacie Illes, Kellie Illes, Natalie Stones, Allison Stones all of Fremont, great-grandfather of Kaley McAllister and Emily McAllister both of Fremont.

Gordon was a longtime member of the Elks Club 2297, VFW, American Legion 117 and a veteran of WWII. Former President of the Bon-Aire Civic League. Active member of Home Owners ORG. of New England Village. He enjoyed his grandkids, traveling, and a big sports fan of baseball & football.

Ben Oliver Cantellay a Hayward resident entered into rest Sunday, November 4, 2001 in Hayward. Born in Enid, Oklahoma on June 14, 1920, he was 81 years of age. Ben enjoyed bowling, gardening and fixing things. He worked as a Heavy Equipment Maintenance Man for 5 years at U.S. Steel Mill in Union City, California.
Loving father of Judy Macon of San Jose and Larry Cantellay of Hayward. He was a special grandfather to six grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Ben was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Maggie Helen Cantellay.
