When she was younger she participated in camping and the outdoors. Jackie enjoyed going out to eat with her friends. She worked for Warden West Company for 6 years as a Tagger.

Rae Louise Lewis, a 46 year resident of Hayward entered into rest Sunday, November 25, 2001. She was a native of Blocton, Alabama born on December 20, 1914, passed at age 86.
Rae was a welder in the shipyards during WWII. She enjoyed Wheel of Fortune making crafts, quilting, crocheting and knitting. She was a long time member of Bay Hills Community Church where she sang in the church choir. Another item she enjoyed was Monday night card games with her friends.
Dearly beloved mother of Anita Williams of Citrus Heights, Mary Sue Kovacs of Redwood City, Betty Lou Lewis of Alameda, Howard Lewis of Saratoga and the late Jimmy Lewis. Special sister of Betty Glenn of Manteca, Tina Newgent of LaMirada and the late Polly McOlash.and Roy Stocks. Dear grandmother of 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Billey F. Lessley, a 37 year resident of Union City, entered into rest in Union City from lung cancer on November 24, 2001. He was born in Phoenix, AZ on April 20, 1941, he was 60 years of age. Billey enjoyed riding his motorcycle; skiing at the cabin in Tahoe; he participated in yearly Corvette races, and had a great love for cars and caring for his roses. Billey enjoyed working in the Aerospace Industry, (He missed one day of work in 20 years.) He loved to play practical jokes with family and co-workers.
He is survived by is wife of 44 years, Shirley Lessley of Union City. Son of Beulah Lessley of Los Angeles and the late, William Lessley. The father of Deborah Lessley-Ingolia of Fremont, Billey Michael Lessley of Livermore and Kelly F. Lessley of Gilbert, AZ. Brother of Lorraine Lessley of Carson, Pat Matzie of San Pedro and Wanda Toothacker of Rancho Palos Verdes, Harold Lessley of Alabama and Rick Lessley of Issaquah, WA. Jane Harding a Castro Valley resident entered into rest Wednesday, November 28, 2001 in Castro Valley. Born in Canada on July 29, 1897, she was 104 years of age. Jane lived in Hayward for 73 years before moving to Castro Valley. She and her husband owned and operated a chicken ranch. After they closed the ranch, she opened a knitting and yarn store. She taught knitting and crocheting. She loved to sew in her early years. Jane was active and lived alone until she was 102.
Loving mother of one son Clare Harding of Dublin. Dear sister of Robertta Labutt of Mesa, Arizona. Jane was preceded in death by eight siblings.

Paul “Babe” Parodi, 77 passed away on Friday, November 30, 2001 at St. Rose Hospital in Hayward, California. He was born on August 18, 1924 in Alameda, California, where he lived until moving to San Leandro, California. Babe was a resident of Hayward for two years and prior of San Leandro for 40 years. Babe was loved sports and playing cards. He was a member of Buon Tiempo Club. He was a U.S. Army Veteran from WWII. He owned and operated Parodi Carpets (Carpet Layer). He was a graduate from Alameda High School.
Paul was preceded in death by his brother Bruno Parodi. Paul is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Marie Bebe Parodi of Hayward, California. He also survived by his loving children, Lindsay Parodi of Hayward, Nick Parodi of Los Gatos and Danny Parodi of San Carlos, California. He also leaves behind his two dear sisters, Joe Robbie of Santa Clara and Louise Marble of Walnut Creek, California.

Alice May Jager passed away in Oakland on November 25, 2001. She was the beloved widow of George J. Jager and the loving mother of Alice Russell of Oakland, CA and George C. Jager and his wife Mary Ann of Brentwood, CA. She was the dear sister of Margaret Rhorer of Sacramento, CA. She was the dear grandmother of four boys and two girls and great-grandmother of five girls and three boys. Many nieces and nephews also survive her.
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, she was 96 years of age. Alice was a 50-year, life member of Golden Wave Chapter #103, Order of Eastern Star. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Hospital.

Moises M. De Guzman

Moises M. deGuzman, 75, died Saturday, December 8, 2001 in Castro Valley. Moises was born January 2, 1926 in Narvacan, P.I.. in 1945, he left the Philippines for Hilo, HI, and later moved to Honolulu where he graduated from McKinley High School in 1947. Upon graduation, he moved to San Jose, CA and joined his father, Alfonso. Moises attended San Jose State and received a Masters Degree in Political Science from Montana State, and in 1955 he received a teaching credential from the University of California-Berkeley. He served with the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. He taught for the Oakland Public School District from 1957 to 1990. Moises was granted a leave of absence from the school district for two years (1996-1968) to accept an appointment with the U.S. State Department-A.I.D. to serve as refugee liaison in Tay Ninh Province. S. Vietnam. Moises is survived by his wife Melinda; Sons Michael, Timothy, Anthony; daughter Kathleen; step-daughter Debora and her husband David; grandsons Jeffery, Scott, and Nicholas deGuzman; granddaughters Sarah Ann and Desiree Aimee. Family and friends are invited to visit from 5 to 8:30PM, Wednesday, December 12, 2001 at Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home, 32992 Mission Blvd., Hayward, CA 94544, where a prayer liturgy service will be held at 7:00PM in the Reflection Chapel. Bal “Vieux Bal” Kimbembe Balumbu, 56 passed away on Friday, December 7, 2001 at Dameron Hospital in Stockton, California. He was born on February 1, 1945 in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. He was a Stockton resident for 2 years and prior of Union City, California for 19 years. Bal was the President of Mosi Mosi Foundation – a non-profit organization. He pioneered the Military and Commercial Pilots in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Bal was a Computer Network Engineer at California State University Hayward. He was a big fan of football. He always enjoyed reading and math.
Bal is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Ndandu Balumbu of Stockton, California. He leaves behind his loving 11 children; 5 daughters, Wumba and Lesia Balumbu both of Antioch, Maleki Balumbu of Union City, Odessa and Karen both of Stockton, California, 6 sons, Calvert and Nzinga Balumbu of Union City, Bunzi Balumbu of Oakland, Malekita Balumbu of Hayward, Fiston and Nkosinza Balumbu both of Stockton, California. He also leaves behind 7 dear siblings; 4 sisters, Helene Hebena Kimbembe, Maleki Leya Kimbembe, Londa Kimbembe all of Democratic Republic of Congo and Marie Zala Kimbembe of Stockton, California, 3 brothers, Mabanza Kimbembe, Lukeba Kimbembe and Luyalv Kimbembe all of Democratic Republic of Congo. He was preceded in death by his brother, Malekita Kimbembe. He is survived by seven very special grandchildren.
