Private Interment will be held at Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home.
Norma Thomas

Norma Thomas, 79 entered into rest in her home in Fremont, California on Saturday, March 2, 2002. She was born in Cincinnati, Illinois on February 19, 1923. She has been a resident of Fremont, California for 49 years and an Alameda County resident for a total of 55 years. Norma worked in the Alameda Ship Yard as a Welder during WWII, she worked as a Braiser for Westinghouse for 18 years until she retired and she especially worked hard as a Homemaker for 29 years. Norma was a loving wife and mother.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 29 years, Paul W. Thomas. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Clara M. & John T. Smashey. She was also preceded in death by her eight sisters and three brothers, Eva, Catherine, Mildred, Winney, Lorene, Ruth, Neomi, Ester, Buddy, Phillip and Kenneth. She was a devoted mother to two loving daughters, Dorothy Saavedra of Fremont and Lorrine Bell of Sacramento, California. She is also survived by her dear brother, Floyd Smashey of Oregon. She was the proud grandmother of four, Sherry Stacey of Manteca, David Saavedra of Fremont, Renee Eastman of San Bruno and Janeen Bell of San Francisco, California. She also has two precious great-grandchildren, Brad Mast of Manteca and Noah Eastman of San Bruno, California. Norma also has a very special great-great-grandchild, Kiatlyn Mast of Manteca, California.
Family and Friends are invited to attend a Visitation on Sunday, March 10, 2002 from 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 11, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at Reflection Chapel with Interment to follow at Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park; 32992 Mission Boulevard, Hayward, CA 94544.

Barbara G. Vance, 85 passed away on Friday, March 1, 2002 at her daughter’s residence in Vacaville, California. Barbara was born on February 18, 1917 in New York. She was the beloved mother of Robert Richardson of Pinecrest, California, Barbara V. Hind of Vacaville, California and Linda Bettencourt of Antioch, California. She was the devoted grandmother of four and great-grandmother of nine.
Barbara was retired from the San Lorenzo Unified School District in the Cafeteria Service Department after many years of devoted service.
A wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who devoted her life to her family and friends who are all blessed to have known and loved her. She was one of the “greatest generation” members, staunch Republican, and avid sports fan.
A Private Inurnment will be held at Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park; 32992 Mission Boulevard, Hayward, CA 94544.

Fernando Manuel LaComba, 61 passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2002 at Kaiser Hospital in Hayward, California. He was born on November 29, 1940 in Oakland, California. He was a resident of Hayward all of his life. He worked as a Freight Handler at SeaLand Corp. for 25 years. His most enjoyable pass-time was spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also loved spending time feeding his birds and going to the horse race tracks.
He was preceded in death by his beloved son; Robert F. LaComba and his sister; Gloria Tavares. He was a devoted father to his three daughters, Jessie LaComba, Anna Stowe and Tina Benson all of Hayward, California. He was a dear brother to four sisters and two brothers; Mary Gallardo of Oakland, Lydia Alcala, Alice LaComba both of Castro Valley and Salley Ojeda of Union City, California, his brothers Larry LaComba of Union City and David Ojeda of Fremont, California. He was an adoring grandfather to seven grandchildren; Louis Stowe, Mark Stowe, Gabriella Benson, Adrianna Benson, Chris Stowe, Alan Benson and Danielle Benson all of Hayward, California.

Genaro (Jerry) Nieto, 83, a resident of Hayward for 54 years, entered into rest at St. Rose Hospital in Hayward, on Thursday, March 14, 2002. He was born in Mexico City, Mexico on December 2, 1918. He retired from the city of Hayward after 27 years. He volunteered at the On Lok’s 30th Street Senior Center in San Francisco for many years and was chosen as Volunteer of the Year and Senior of the Year during his time with the center. He was an active member of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church and was an usher in the church for many years.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years Mary H. Nieto of Hayward. Dear father of Rebecca Douros and her husband Jim Douros of Fremont and Ruben Nieto and his wife, Bobbie Olin of Issaquah, WA. Brother of two sisters of Mexico. Caring grandfather of Dawn Douros and Lindsey Douros. He is also survived by a special nephew and niece, Raymond and Jessie Valero and many other nieces and nephews.

Margaret Ruth Loyko-Passed away peacefully to be with the Lord on March 3, 2002, at her home in Los Altos, CA. Margaret also known as Tookie, was born on November 19, 1914, in Denver, CO, to Joseph Charles and Eugenie Lehner. The family moved to San Francisco for the 1915 World's Fair and afterwards settled in Oakland, where Margaret graduated from McClymonds High School. She was marriage to Louis Loyko who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Eugene Lehner and sister, Ann Westwood. She was employed by the County of Alameda as a computer programmer for 25 years. She was a loving mother to Lane Loyko of Redwood City, CA and is survived by nieces, Dorene Paoluccio of Modesto, CA, and Roberta Hult of Walnut Creek, CA. She knitted and crocheted all through her life making wonderful gifts for everyone she knew. She will be missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held at Lane and Phyllis Loyko's residence, 11 Alverno CT., Redwood city, CA, on Saturday, March 16, 2002, at 12:00 noon. Inurnment will be at Chapel of the chimes in Oakland, CA. Memorial gifts may be sent to the American Diabetes Association.
