Alda Margaret Kuss
May 18 1904 - March 8 2002

Alda M. Kuss age 97 passed on March 08, 2002 at Alta Bates Medical Center in Berkeley. Although Alda was being treated for cancer for several years she suffered little as life's eventual cycle came full circle. The past five years Alda has lived with and was given loving care by her daughter and son-in-law, Bee and Richard Gerlach.
Alda is survived by her three children: Bee Gerlach of Oakland, Lew Desch of Santa Rosa and son Don Desch of Santa Cruz, and her son-in-law Dick Gerlach of Oakland: her five grandchildren: Robin Coenen, Gary Desch, Tammie Negomir, Sandy Desch and Eric Desch and her five great grandchildren.

Alda's life started in Peru, Illinois in 1904. She attended the Art Institute of Chicago at the age of 17, marriage and moved to Oakland, California in 1928 with her three children and first husband who died in 1957. Alda's second husband, Theodor Kuss, a high school friend, was a bridge engineer who worked on the Golden Gate Bridge as well as other famous structures including the base structure for the space shuttle which took Alda to New York to live for nine years. After Ted's death in 1967 she moved to Los Gatos, California to be near her youngest grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 24, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. at Chapel of the Chimes, 4499 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland, CA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of you choice.

September 22 1920 - March 4 2002

Mary T. Davis in San Francisco on March 4, 2002. Dear sister of Eleanor Arnold of Walnut Creek, CA and Carol Trapp of Pleasant Hill, CA. A native of Pasadena, CA, she was 81 years of age. Memorial Services will be held at Plymouth United Church of Christ in Oakland.

Joann G. Hicks a Hayward, California resident entered into rest Wednesday, March 13, 2002 in Hayward. Born in Donna Anna County, New Mexico on June 14, 1943, she was 58 years of age.

Dearly beloved wife of Charles F. Hicks, Sr. Loving mother of Melode Hubbard of Michigan and Timothy H. Hubbard of Hayward, California. Dear sister of Laura from California, Pat from California, Gina of Idaho, Ella of Pennsylvania, Danny of Pennsylvania and Johnny of California.

Charles Henry Hoff
February 18 1921 - February 24 2002

Charles H. Hoff, 81 passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2002 at his home in Castro Valley, California. He was a resident of Castro Valley for 70 years. Charles was born to Ruth and William Hoff in San Francisco, California on February 18, 1921. Charles worked for Western Electric as a Supervisor of Installation for 40 years. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneer of America Association. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge-Acacia Lodge #243 of Free & Accepted Masons of California. He was a member of the Hump Pilots Association. He was a member of the CBI Theater. He served as a First Lt. in the U.S. Air Force. He graduated from Hayward High School in Hayward, California. He enjoyed fishing and gardening. He especially enjoyed raising orchids. He was very active in the Boy Scouts with his sons while they were growing up. The Hoffs were a flying family. His father was the first Licensed Pilot in California.

Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Norma M. Hoff of Castro Valley, California. He was a very devoted father to his daughter and three sons. His daughter, Cynthia L. Harris of Hillsborough, Oregon and sons, David H. Hoff of Fresno, California, Eric C. Hoff of Pleasanton, Calfiornia and Douglas M. Hoff of Auburn, California. He leaves behind his brother, William C. Hoff of Fresno, California. He was an adorning grandfather to eight grandchildren, Brian Harris, Gregory Harris, Meghan Harris, Samantha Hoff, Ashley Hoff, Starr Hoffman, E. Beau Hoff and Scott Hoff. He also leaves behind his precious five great-grandchildren, Tyler Hoffman, Todd Hoffman, Barliz Hoffman, Cameron Hoff and Catlyn Hoff.

Family and Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. at Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home – Reflection Chapel; 32992 Mission Boulevard, Hayward, CA 94544. A Private Inurnment was held at Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park; 32992 Mission Boulevard, Hayward, CA 94544.

Mee Tung Wong Huey
January 13 1916 - March 25 2002

Mee Tung Wong Huey born January 13, 1916 in China. Emigrated to the United States in 1949. Died March 25, 2002 in Oakland, California. Preceded in death by her husband Richard on February 25, 1977. Survived by one son, five daughters, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and two sisters. Beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, we will always remember your beautiful smile. Private services and Interment at Mountain View Cemetery , Oakland, CA.

Leroy Odom
February 14 1932 - March 17 2002

Leroy Odom died in Oakland, CA on March 17, 2002 at the age of 70 years. He was the beloved husband of Audria M. Odom and the loving father of Kathryn A. Carlisle, Timothy R. Odom, Melvin C. Odom, and Cynthia T. Odom, all of Oakland. He was the dear brother of Jimmy Odom of Oakland, Alonzo Odom of El Cerrito, Lee Otis Odom of Oakland, Carl Odom of Mer Rouge, LA and Evelyn Odom of Mer Rouge, LA. He was the dear grandfather of Jasmine Odom, Wesley Carlisle, Ashley Carlisle and Samuel Odom. His brother Johnny Fraction preceded him in death. He is also survived by Jennifer Odom his daughter-in-law and Richard Carlisle his son-in-law.
A native of Mer Rouge, LA, he was 70 years of age. He was a 41-year employee of the U. S. Postal Service.

Friends are invited to call at the Chapel of the Chimes, 4499 Piedmont Avenue on March 26, 2002, from 4 - 8PM and to attend Funeral Services at Chapel of the Chimes on Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at 10:00 AM. Interment will be at Rolling Hills Cemetery in Richmond. A private reception will follow.

George Yoshikazu Yamada

George Y. Yamada passed away in Oakland, CA on March 21, 2002. He was the beloved husband of Yaeko Yamada and loving father of Yoshinobu, Ruth, Ruriko and James. A native of San Francisco, he was 88 years of age.

Ellen Farrer-Went to be with the Lord on March 19, 2002. Ellen lived a long fulfilled life. She was a loving mother of Joan Laine and Bonnie Raef, grandmother of Richard and Mike Laine, Kenneth and Sally Raef, and great-grandmother of Michael, Nikko, Natalie, Serefina, Nathan and Jessica. Born in Peru, Illinois, Ellen lived the majority of her life in Alameda County. She was a devoted Christian and a member of High Street Presbyterian Church. Ellen will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A private "Celebration of Life" will be held in Ellen's honor with her family.

Rebella (Bella) Emma Siri O'Neill died peacefully at her home on March 27, 2002. Bella was born September 5, 1917 in Pittsburg, California and lived in San Francisco for the past 57 years. Predeceased by her husband Cornelius, she is survived by sons Kevin (Patti, Erin & Tim) Michael (Bernadette Horan, Mike & Katie) and Dennis.
She was always a great volunteer and spent the past 30 years as an active member of the San Francisco Chapter of the Fuchsia Society. She will be greatly missed. Services will be private.

Barbara Shreve Jatho passed away on April 2, 2002 in Berkeley, CA. She was the loving wife of 50 years of George "Ted" Jatho of Moraga, CA. She was the loving mother of Jean & Dave Sullivan and Bill & Donna Jatho. She also was the loving grandmother of Matthew, Mary, Kathleen, Will & Amanda and dear sister of Bill & Marge Shreve.

CHARLES WILLIAM ANDERSON, a San Lorenzo resident of 48 years passed away April 8, 2002 leaving behind a large and caring family. Beloved husband of 59 years to Fern Anderson and loving father to three sons, Charles and wife Vernice Anderson of Livermore, Robert Anderson of Livermore and Tim and wife Anna Anderson of Union City. His five grandchildren, Kevin and wife Linda Anderson, Byron Anderson, Keri Anderson, Kaela Anderson and Keanu Anderson will miss him dearly. He will also be missed by his great-grandchildren, Branson, Alyssa, Corey and baby due in July, along with eleven brothers and sisters, and many nieces and nephews. Born December 20, 1919 in Bemidji, Minnesota. Age 82 years. Retired 1981 after driving 30 years for Pacific Motor Trucking. A Veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army where he acquired his G.E.D. after leaving school in the 11th grade to serve his country. He was a faithful member of the Moose Club for many years. Charles "Mac" McFarland Ricard
June 1 1932 - March 13 2002

Charles “Mac” McFarland Ricard, 69 passed away at his home of 35 years in Fremont, California on Wednesday, March 13, 2002. Mac was born to Melodie “Sweet” and to Joseph “Willie” Ricard on June 1, 1932 in Chanel, Louisiana. Mac worked in the construction business for 52 years as a Brick Mason, was a union member of local #3 Brick Layers Association for 50 years, and owned his own masonry business together with his son, Jeffrey Ricard. Mac was a very kind-hearted, generous person, he enjoyed spending time with his family, helping friends, working in the garden, camping and traveling. Mac’s remarkable kindness touched the life of everyone he met. His special way with people allowed him to live a life of which was extraordinarily filled with love from all who knew him. His memories will be cherished forever.
Mac was always dedicated to his beloved wife of 48 years, Dorothy A. Ricard of Fremont, California, a devoted father to two sons, Michael Ricard of Newark, California and Jeffrey Ricard of Fremont, California, two daughters, Glenda Weaver of Austin, Texas and Lisa Ricard of Fremont, California. A dear brother to his three sisters, Ray Helen Temple and Myrtle Ann Joyner both of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Natalie Ricard of Los Angeles, California. An adoring grandfather to six grandchildren, Erica and Andrea Ricard both of Fresno, California, Andre Darensbourg of Austin, Texas, Monique Williams, BJ Velez and Adrianna Velez all of Fremont, California. He also leaves behind his very precious great-granddaughter, Jocelyn Ricard of Fresno, California.

Judy M. Lewis, 52, a resident of San Leandro, entered into rest in San Leandro on Tuesday, March 19, 2002. She was born in Metlakatla, Alaska on December 11, 1949. She loved quilting, crocheting, knitting, sewing and other craft projects. She served and was honorably discharged from the US Air Force. She was also an avid A’s and Raiders Fan.

Judy is survived by her beloved husband of 11 years, James A. Lewis of San Leandro. Loving daughter of Martha H. Williams of San Leandro. Dear mother of Sean D. Sellers of San Lorenzo, Donald R. Rau, III of Washington and James A. Lewis, Jr. of Richmond and Janet White of Castro Valley. Dear sister of Eleanor Evenson of San Leandro, Lloyd E. Williams, Jr. and Vernon R. William’s of San Leandro. Caring grandmother of D.J. Rau, Avani and Arei Lewis and Nikki White. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and a grand nephew and many cousins. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra and her father Lloyd E. Williams.
