Marie Bernice Johnson Ivica, 1918-2002. Marie was the third daughter of Christine Larsen Johnson of Denmark and Fred Ernest Johnson of Osakis, Minnesota. Marie was born in Alexandria, Minnesota, February 1, 1918. She passed away at 84 years of age on Monday, July 1, 2002, at 2:00 a.m. at San Ramon Hospital, San Ramon, California.
Marie’s four siblings include: Ellen Christine Johnson, San Jose, California; Shirley Johnson Patmont, Kailua, Hawaii; Fred Ernest Johnsen, Meadow Vista, California; Dr. Bernarr B. Johnson, Redstone, Colorado. A graduate of Berkeley schools, Marie became a licensed Cosmetologist, joining the family owned business of Joan Kristine Beauty Salons in Berkeley, California, in the 1930’s Depression and WWII Days, and later pursuing her career in other salons in California and Arizona. In 1940, she marriage Frank J. Ivica, professional musician and teacher. Their four children are: Carole Marie Ivica Slater, Pleasanton, California; Francie Ivica Tomacci, Alamo, California; Frank J. Ivica, Jr., CPA, Castro Valley, California; Kathrine Ivica Johnston, Danville, California. Marie’s seven grandchildren include: Christine Tomacci Legare, Michael Slater, Thomas Tomacci, Matthew Slater, Scott Serradell, Lisa Marie Serradell.

Loved and admired for her gracious manner and beauty, Marie will be missed always by family and friends. As a Christian, Marie’s hope was in her precious Lord. In loving memory of Helen Kikes. "The Captain" Dec 31st 1916- June 30, 2002. Helen Kikes was the loving wife of 60 years to George Kikes "the Duke", who sadly left us March 5th 1999. Helen was the mother of Betty Rutkowski and Barbara Salido. Mother in law to Le Roy Allen Salido. Special nana to Tiffeny and Sam Nealan, Steffeny Rutkowski and her new fiancée Rob, Kim Salido, Michael, Katherina Salido, Marnie and Jeff Bryan. Great Nana to Lindsey and Lainey Copado, Dimitri and Zoe Salido, Nicolas Bryan. Helen was also a Sister, Aunt, and friend to many.
Helen Kikes was the GREAT Cook. She had magic hands to the end and always made sure she had your favorites on the glass table. When she yelled "who loves nana" we all came running, she would have our favorite treats. I hope she took with her our love and know how very much she will be missed.

VITTORE, KATHRYN M. passed away Sunday, June 30, 2002 in Sacramento, CA of natural causes. Born October 24, 1911 to Caroline and Ernesto Vittore in Leechburg, PA. Lived in Pennsylvania until moving to California in 1955 where she has remained. Preceded in death by her parents. Survived by her brothers, John of Sacramento, Peter and his wife Virginia of Sacramento, Sylvio and wife Isabel of Pennsylvania and Alexander of Massachusettes. Her family also consisted of 7 nieces and nephews and 10 grand-nieces and nephews, for whom she cared very deeply. She was a very active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church when younger. She resided at Country Club Manor the past 2 years where she was very well liked. Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes, 4701 Marysville Blvd., Sacramento 95838, will hold visitation on Wednesday, July 3rd, from 4:00 to 8:00pm. Funeral Services will begin with a Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church at 1951 North Avenue, Sacramento 95838, on Friday, July 5th at 11:00am followed by a processional to Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes Cemetery where a brief Interment ceremony will be held. Flowers are welcome as well as donations to the church or American Cancer Society.

Angela S. Aguilar a Hayward, California resident entered into rest Friday, July 5, 2002 in Oakland, CA. Born in Managua, Nicaragua on June 27, 1955, she was 47 years of age. She was a Teacher at Alameda Headstart (preschool and daycare) for 16 years. She will be greatly missed by all her family and all that knew her.
Dearly beloved wife of Edgard Aguilar for 29 years. Loving mother of Edgard Aguilar, Jr., Roberto Aguilar and Alejandro Aguilar of Hayward. Ray Allen a long time resident of Castro Valley passed away in Paris Texas July 7, 2002. Ray is survived by his wife Edith Allen of Paris Texas, his children Jim Allen, Johnnie Allen, Lynda Safreno and Janet White, and his twin sister Faye Parker, he is also survived by nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Thelma Lorraine Allen, his sons Steven Arthur Allen, and David Kenneth Allen. Ludovico (Toben) Yambao, a resident of Union City for 25 years entered into rest in Fremont on Monday, July 8, 2002. He was born in Pampanga, Philippines on October 8, 1931. He was one of the founders of the Mr. & Mrs. Club of San Francisco.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Pacita E. Yambao, his daughter, Leslie Yambao of Union City. His daughter, Joanna Soliman of South San Francisco, his sons Ludovico (JoJo) Yambao, Jr. of San Francisco and Froilan Yambao of South San Francisco also survive him. His son, Freddy Yambao, preceded him in death.

He served in the Army during WWII as a cook. He worked for PG&E for 30 years in construction. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, cooking and reading.
Dearly beloved husband of Nondas Duarte for 57 years. Loving father of Kathryn Lakes of Utah, Cheryl Suzuki of Hayward and Steven Duarte of Redding. Dear brother of Marie Amaral of Hayward. Devoted grandfather of ten grandchildren.

Manuel Florence
July 20 1908 - July 22 2002

Manuel Florence, went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 22, 2002. His beloved wife, Mabelle, preceded him in death. Manuel was born in Pahau, Hawaii on July 20, 1908. He spent most of his working life as a journeyman molder at Vulcan and Ridge Foundries. After his retirement, he volunteered to work for a year and a half with the contractor who was building the first Sanctuary at Redwood Chapel Community church, where he was a member for 45 years. Manuel and Mabelle spent many days working in the church kitchen, where he was the official pot washer.
His son, William Florence of Oakland, and his daughter, Heather Landers of Hayward, three grandchildren and five great grandchildren survive Manuel.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Redwood Chapel Community Church, 13900 Redwood Road, Castro Valley at 1:00PM, Saturday, August 3, 2002. Interment will be private in Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park, Hayward, CA.

Eleanor Hilda Jardin born January 19, 1922 in Hilo. Passed away on July 25, 2002 in Castro Valley. She enjoyed reading and crocheting. She was a secretary for Maisel, Bray and Burke in Hayward for many years, then worked for Western Pioneer Auto Insurance before retiring.
Eleanor is survived by nieces Judy Walton, Michelle Jardin, Sherri Olund and nephews James Deininger, Mark, Jon and Walter C. Jardin. Also grand nieces and survived by nephews Michael J. Deininger, Robert, Charlene and Stephanie Walton, Eric Windom, Rafe and Jesse Jardin, Josh and Carley Olund, Deborah, Audrey and Angela Jardin, Haley and Cole Jardin. Great Grand nieces and nephew Michael A., Angelenia and Marisa Deininger. She was preceded in death by Georgeina and Duke Jardin her loving parents. Jesse, Walter, Edward, Harold Jardin and Walter Deininger. Her sisters Helen Deininger. Her sisters Helen Deininger, Minnie Wootten, Hilda and Mildred Jardin and sister-in-laws Marcie and Gail. She was also preceded in death by Duke Jardin and Steven Walton both loving nephews.

She will be missed by many friends and neighbors. Aloha, until we meet again. A Memorial Service will be held in the Mission Chapel August 1, 2002 at 2 p.m. A graveside service is to follow.

LANA LEIMONE WOOLF, 60 years passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at Kaiser Hospital in Hayward, California. She was a resident of Hayward, California for the last 8 years and prior of San Leandro, California for 7 years. She was born to George Robert Ludwig and to Joice LaVern Ludwig on February 17, 1942 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was a Deli Supervisor for 29 years for Safeway Grocery Stores. She attended schools in San Francisco and she was a graduate of Mt. Diablo High in Concord, California. She loved her grandchildren and liked to play bingo and she followed the Oakland A’s.
Her father, George R. Ludwig, preceded her in death. Her beloved mother, Joice L. Ludwig of St. George, Utah, survives her. Her loving son, Michael Leimone of Union City, California, survives her. Her dear sister, Janet Negleoff of St. George, Utah, also survives her. Her dear brother, Robert Ludwig of Sacramento, California, also survives her. Her two precious grandchildren, Marco Vincent Leimone and Marissa Valentine Leimone of Union City, California, also survive her.

LILE, RONALD PAUL December 25, 1930 - August 1 2002. On Thursday, August 1 beloved husband and father Ronald Paul Lile past away at home with family at his side after a long fought battle with leukemia, he was 71 years old. His loving wife of 45 years, Betty Lucille Lile survives him, as well as 3 loving children Margaret and Bryan Crockett of Rio Linda, Kenneth and Helen Lile of Citrus Heights, Deborah and Danny Hensley of Rio Linda. Devoted grandfather to 9 grandchildren. Paul will be deeply missed by many more family members and friends. Paul was the Author of The Residential Swimming Pool and recipient of 10 national awards for Excellence of pool design. He was a volunteer at the Potter House Church for many years. A Veteran of World War II, he was awarded several medals for his service. May 12 1912 - August 3 2002

Lawrence R. Luevano, the loving husband of Carmen L. Luevano, passed away on August 3, 2002 in Hayward. A resident of Union City for 65 years, he was employed by Pacific State Steel Company in Union City for 38 years as a crane operator. He was involved in many community activities, including running for the school board in Union City. An avid hunter and fisherman; he also was a longtime fan of the Oakland A’s, in addition as a former professional fighter, he followed boxing as well.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Carmen L. Luevano of Union City. Loving father to Jean Luevano of Manteca, Cecelia Rubalcaba of Fresno and Richard Luevano and his wife Christine of Turlock. Dear brother to David Luevano of Hayward. The caring grandfather of Marcos Luevano, Kimberly Miner, Lauren Luevano, Bernice Burgos, Alfred Santiago, Eleanor Santiago and Daniel Luevano; ten great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. He was a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. His son-in-law Arnulfo Rubalcaba preceded him in death.

She was a fantastic Homemaker for 50 years. Before moving to Santa Maria 23 years ago, she lived in Hayward for 24 years.
Dearly beloved wife of Charles Deatherage for 50 years. Loving mother of Cheryl and John Seekins of Sacramento and Charlaine Froid of San Mateo. Dear sister of Juanita Kesler of Florida. Devoted grandmother of three grandchildren; Sara Seekins, Christian Froid and Heidi Nash and two great grandchildren.

MARIA (MARY) VARGAS entered peacefully into rest August 8, 2002 surrounded by her loving family. Maria was born August 20, 1922 a native of Oakland, California. All who knew and met her loved her. She was an exceptional mother and known affectionately by the name “Mama”. Proceeded in death by two sons Dennis and James Vargas. Survived by her soul mate and devoted husband of 58 years Candido (Alex) Vargas. Eldest daughter Mary Berkowitz, Kandace Frediani, Adina and Steven Vargas. Grandchildren Scott, Shane, Kevin, Tara, Pricilla, Monica, Angela and Keith. Great grand children, Andrea, Isaac, Sierra and Juliana. Devoted son’s in-law Rich Berkowitz, James Frediani, Eddie Verdin. Daughter’s in-law Michele Gonzalez-Vargas, Monica Verdin and Yolanda Lopez. The above named in-law children of Maria, loved and respected her deeply. Her sister Eleanor and Albino Perez, Lydia Mondragon and Rita Stuart also survive her, along with a host of nieces and nephews and a close family friend Kris. Mary loved to dance and often could be found at the Ali Baba, Sands, and the Sweets Bald rooms. A retired teamster Mary worked for over thirty years at Fairmont Foods in San Lorenzo. Mary had many hobbies and loved to entertain. An accomplished hostess, “Who would go all out”, for whatever holiday or occasion of celebration. Whether it be a party or even in death, Mary could draw a crowd, as the staff at Kaiser hospital found out. No matter what, you couldn’t keep people away from “Mama”. She will be sorely missed. We love you “Mama”. Gary Richard Flores, Sr.
July 11 1944 - August 7 2002

Gary Richard Flores, Sr., 58, a resident of Fremont for 25 years, entered into rest in Washington Hospital on Wednesday, August 7, 2002. He was born in Albany, CA on July 11, 1944 to Felix and Wanda Flores. Gary worked for 21 years at Washington Hospital in Fremont as a Surgical Support Technician. He coached the Fremont Football League for 10 years, the Babe Ruth Baseball and FNYB Baseball; He also coached Freshman Football at Irvington High School during the undefeated season and at the Kennedy High School Baseball for 8 years. Gary was the Theatre Manager of Stage One for 5 years. Gary was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where he also coached the Church Basketball League at the 9th Ward in Fremont for one year.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Betty Flores of Fremont. Loving son of Felix Flores of La Jolla, CA and the late Wanda Flores. His loving children, Kristina Buck and her husband, Tom of Brentwood, Rick Flores of Phoenix, AZ and Mark Flores of Fremont, survive him. Dear brother of Carol Mills of Cub Run, KY and the late, David Flores. The caring grandfather of Brett, Cordero & Rebecca Flores and Courtney & Cameron Buck.

Entombment will follow in Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park, Hayward, CA.
