William (Bill) Phillips of Oakland, passed away at the age of 65 He will be forever missed by his partner of 41 years, Dean Deaner and his loving family. He had a life long love of antiques, Chinese porcelain, Asian art and history. He was passionate about honesty in every way. He touched so many friends and strangers with his kindness and love. He was the sweetest guy in the world and a treasure to all who knew him. He will live in our hearts forever.

ELMA FURGUSON ELLIS
November 25 1916 - May 18 2003

ELMA F. ELLIS passed away on May 18th, 2003. Born to Carrie Lou and Ruben Ferguson on November 25, 1916. Ellie, as her friends called her, lived an extraordinary life. She graduated from the Black School of Nursing in Columbia, S.C. Ellie then moved to Buffalo, NY where she worked as a registered nurse. Ellie In 1949, she pioneered the way for Negro nurses by being one of several original members of the first Negro Registered Nurses of Buffalo. In 1954, she entered the army as a registered nurse. Ellie rose up the ranks and eventually retired as a Captain in the ANC. Once she returned to the states, she moved to California where she met and marriage her beloved, Durnise Ellis. Together, they worked hard and built a wonderful life for themselves. Ellie loved to shop and travel and was well known by many as a classy lady. She will be dearly missed. She leaves behind a host of friends and relatives including: Fleur Sandiford, Elaine Jones, Peggy Heath, and Carla Mcaders. Family and friends are invited to attend Quiet Hour from 10 - 1pm, and funeral services to begin at 1pm on May 22, 2003. All services will be held at the Chapel of the Chimes, 4499 Piedmont Ave. Oakland, CA.

DIANE BRIGHTON ELLIS
July 15 1945 - May 25 2003

Diane "Dana" Brighton Ellis died Sunday, May 25, 2003 in Antioch, California. Private cremation was held May 29th. A memorial gathering is planned for a future date. After surviving a four year struggle with lung cancer, Diane passed, surrounded by the love of her extended family and friends, in the home of her beloved daughter and son-in-law, Kendra Shannon and Mark Collier. Diane brought all of her talents to her more than 35 years as executive assistance in various firms including Pacific Intermountain Express, Arthur Anderson, and John Waddell and Co. Diane shared with all of us her sharp and inquisitive mind; always challenging us to become aware and grow. Diane love of books was shared with one and all. Diane's love of baseball, (gleaned from her "grandpe're, Frank Brazill) and tennis was well known. Diane's support of Aids patients as a volunteer driver brought her joy. Above all, Diane's love and support of the children, so many now grown, her cats and all the animal kingdom is most treasured in our family. Preceded in death by his father Clifford Owen. Charles was a member of the Teamsters Local # 70, and worked for Lucky stores for 30 years. Private services were held in Rancho Murieta, and inurnment was in Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park Hayward, CA. Arrangements were under the care of Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home and Memorial Park in Sacramento.

She was a member of Lake Wildwood Art Club and Lahaina Art Society. She loved being an artist and also being a long time resident of Maui, Hawaii. Winfred Leon Cameron
November 17 1920 - July 21 2003

Winfred Leon Cameron a San Leandro, California resident entered into rest Monday, July 21, 2003 in San Leandro. Born in Sanford, North Carolina on November 17, 1920, he was 82 years of age. Winfred was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, he left with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He worked as an engineer for Bendix, then General Electric where he retired. He enjoyed flying (he was a private pilot), working in the garden and he was an auto and train enthusiast. He went to the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Loving father of Peter Cameron of Alameda, CA. Dear brother of Jean Crutchfield of Greensboro, NC, Janice Cameron of Greensboro, NC, Martha Smith of Silver City, NC, W.A. “Bill” Cameron of Greensboro, NC, Reid Cameron of Panama City, NC and David Cameron of Greenville, SC. Devoted grandfather of one grandchild.

Donald William Cross
April 22 1930 - July 26 2003

Donald William Cross died on July 26, 2003 in his home at the age of 73. He was born on April 22, 1930 in San Francisco to Theresa and James Cross. Served in the Army during the Korean War. Married Barbara Lowry at Oakland Revival Tabernacle on September 24, 1955. They have lived in San Leandro since 1957. He worked for Rawson Drug Co. until 1993. He was active in the California Republican Assembly in San Leandro and served as President in 1970. He was very active in his church, taught Sunday school for many years, served as Deacon and ushered for over 45 years. He was the brother of the late James Cross. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara of 48 years and his four daughters; Cheryl Key of Texas, Janis Lewis of Livermore, Nancy Robotham of Canada and Rochelle Wilson of Washington. Grandfather of 9 and Great-Grandfather of 7.
Memorial services will be held 7:00 PM Wednesday July 30, 2003 at First Assembly of God, 4760 Thornton Ave., Fremont, Ca 94536. Donations may be made in his honor to First Assembly of God (please designate: Cross Memorial for Missions). Robert Sandoval
June 8 1936 - August 1 2003

In loving memory of Robert Sandoval born June 8, 1936, deceased August 1, 2003. A resident of Pleasanton, CA for 37 years, Bob graduated from Hayward High School in 1955 and went to work for Local Union 16 Heat & Frost Insulators. He was a member of Faith Chapel in Pleasanton and will be remembered for his wonderful smile, great sense of humor and loving heart. Anyone who has met him would tell you what a special man he was.
Bob is survived by his wife of 44 years Josephine Sandoval, his daughters, Rebecca Contreras of Stockton, Janet LoDuca of Brentwood and his son Robert J. Sandoval of Knoxville, Tennessee. Eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. His brothers Jesse Sandoval of Byron, Paul Sandoval of Hayward, Henry Sandoval of Hayward, his sisters Dora Reid of Santa Rosa, Louise Macfarland of Daly City and several nieces, nephews and family members that adore him.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6. 2003 at the Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward, 32992 Mission Blvd., Hayward. Services will be held in the Mission Chapel at Chapel of the Chimes Thursday, August 7, 2003 at 10:30 a.m.

Although we miss him dearly we know that he’s in God’s hands and would want all of you to know that “Jesus Loves You”.

Also survived by loving wife for 10 years Anna Freeman (Reyes), loving partner for 6 years Sarah Rowell (Reyes), and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends. Preceded in death by his father Julio Reyes Sr., grandparents Peter and Florence Reyes and Francis and Wilma Hubbard. Michael attended Cornerstone Church in Rio Linda.
