BARSTOW - Stanley J. Myhren Sr., 84, of Barstow - "Stan's my name, chicken's my game" - died Saturday, June 23, 2001.
Myhren worked on Great Lake freighters for 25 years, then owned a Kentucky Fried Chicken store in Whittier for 25 years.
Myhren is preceded in death by his wife, Henrietta A.B. Myhren, grandson Matthew Baskiewicz and brother Harold Myhren of Palm Beach, Fla.
Beloved father of Cathlyn Pohl of Barstow, Sandra Baskiewicz of Pahrump, Nev., Stanley J. Myhren Jr. of Stanton, Calif., and Jeffrey Myhren of Sonoma, Calif. Blessed brother of Elenore Dolnick of Cleveland, Ohio.
He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life to be held 1 p.m. July 2, 2001, at the home of Andy and Cathy Pohl, 331801 Soap Mine Road, Barstow.

CLARIBEL SCARBROUGH
BARSTOW - Claribel 'Clara' Scarbrough died June 14 , 2001, at age 79 after a long battle with cancer.
Scarbrough was born Claribel Holden on June 22, 1921 near Teresita, Mo., and was a resident of the Barstow area and a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1962.
She was an adult teacher and officer in her church, a tutor in the Laubach Literacy program, a Toastmaster (DTM) and a partner in family businesses. Survivors include her husband, Clyde of Barstow; two sons, Donald of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Randy of Upland; a brother, James Holden of Sedalia, Mo.; and granddaughter Denise Pauley of Chandler, Ariz.
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. June 30, 2001, at First United Methodist Church of Barstow, 608 Barstow Road.
Memorial donations to the church building fund will be appreciated.

JESSICA B. ANDERSON-HARTWELL-PRUETT
DAGGETT - Jessica Berniece Anderson (Hartwell) Pruett died June 7, 2001 in Daggett. Pruett was born June 25, 1909 in Concordia, Kan., the daughter of Louis E. and Florence (Hill) Anderson.
Her early years were spent on the family farm in eastern Nebraska before moving to Omaha, where she married in 1927. In 1941 the family moved to California.
She is survived by three of her five children: Charlotte (Hartwell) Valley of Rosamond, Sir Rodney Hartwell of Daggett, and Tyrone Pruett of Torrance.
She leaves 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren. She has 62 living descendants.
Pruett died following a series of strokes.
She had been a resident of Daggett since March 1, 2001. In 1999 in Daggett she celebrated her 90th birthday with a large gathering of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
For many years Pruett was Dean of Fellows of The Augustan Society Inc., headquartered in Daggett at the old Funk-Muir mansion.
She was a member of the Hereditary Order of Armigerous Augustans and a past member of the United Federation of Doll Clubs.
In the 1960s she began a long career as both a collector and dealer in old and rare dolls. This interest was communicated TO other members of her family. She was one of the founding members of the Bustle and Bonnett Doll Club of the South Bay area in Southern California.
Her full-time caregiver for the past four months was her grandson, Sir John Caffey, who was on a leave of duty as curator of the Augustan Museum in Daggett.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Augustan Society Inc., P.O. Box 75, Daggett, CA 92327-0075, or to the Mojave Valley Volunteer Hospice, P.O. Box 504, Barstow, CA 92312-0504.
Funeral services will be held at noon Sunday, June 10, 2001 at Mead Mortuary Chapel, 36930 Irwin Road.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will be at Green Hills Memorial Park in Palos Verdes.

DESERT HOT SPRINGS - Delores Rose Stroup, 67, of Desert Hot Springs, died June 18, 2001, in Klamath Falls.
She was born July 28, 1933, in Polson, Mont., to Wilford and Velma (Rein) Gaines.
She was a homemaker and also worked as a waitress at the Hesperia Cafe for 26 years.
She belonged to the Hesperia Moose Lodge and enjoyed playing bingo, traveling, cooking and baking.
She will be remembered for attending Little League games with her boys and picking strawberries with her children.
She is survived by her daughters Linda Gray of Klamath Falls and Deanna Stroup of Hesperia; sons Billy Stroup of Hesperia, Danny Stroup of Portland, Sterling Stroup of Seaside and Stuart Stroup of Vancouver, Wash.; brother Wilbur Gaines of Desert Hot Springs; 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
No services will be held.
Eternal Hills Funeral Home handled the arrangements, and Eternal Hills Crematory did the cremation.

EL CAJON - David Ford Boertje, 40, of El Cajon went to be with the Lord on June 1, 2001.
He was born in Apple Valley and lived in the Victor Valley for 19 years.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a corpsman and was a LVN in hospitals in the San Diego area.
Survivors include wife Penny and daughter Hayley of El Cajon; parents Dennis and Barbara Boertje of Hesperia; mother Geraldean Boertje of San Diego; brothers Dennis and wife Barbara of Santa Cruz; Donovan of New Orleans; sisters Denise and husband Lee Sebel of Salt Lake City, Utah, Deanne and husband Peter Abare of San Diego; stepsisters Pamela and husband Martin Rose of Victorville and Donna Pyle of Apple Valley; stepbrother Jeff and wife Rosemary Kinnard of Hesperia.
Services were held at Vineyard Christian Fellowship in El Cajon. Inurnment will be at Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego.

HELENDALE - Helendale resident and Barstow High School graduate Glenn Earl Andrews, 50, died on Wednesday, June 20, 2001.
Andrews was born May 20, 1951 in Anchorage, Alaska.
For 28 years he worked as a power plant operator for T.X.I. in Oro Grande. He previously lived in Barstow and lived in San Bernardino County since 1963.
He was a licensed pilot who loved Harleys, motorcycling, fishing and boating. He had a 1948 Ford pickup in mint condition.
Andrews graduated from Barstow High School in 1970 and was a member of the Calvary Chapel Church of Barstow.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Andrews of Helendale; mother Shirleyann Rogers of Newberry Springs; father Glenn Orville Andrews of San Bernardino; sisters Arlene Cesaroni of Savannah, Ga., and Katie Boyd of Barstow; brother Thomas M. Rogers of Barstow; nephews Shane Boyd of Fort Hood, Texas, Todd Poppell of Baltimore, Md., Christopher Cesaroni, of Savannah, Ga., and Gunner Rogers of Barstow; niece Allison Rogers of Barstow; step-children Dawn Osborne, Dennis Miyeo and Deanna Guerrero, all of Barstow; and five step-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at noon today, June 27, 2001 at Calvary Chapel Church, 412 Avenue A.

Born in Crosses, Ark., she lived in Hesperia for 10 of her 62 years in California.
Matriarch of a very large family, a multi-talented woman and eldest of 11 children born to Ollie and Leotis Easley.
From farm life to city life, she and her husband Lloyd were residents of Los Angeles for 50 years before retiring to the desert.
Our dear mother - we will miss your "bright eyes and sweet smile."
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Lloyd Edmon, 1999 and one sister.
She is survived by daughters Virginia Gale Ross and Deborah Lynn Inwood, both of Oak Hills; six brothers, three sisters, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

HESPERIA - Joyce Grant, 83, died on June 14, 2001 at Victorville.
Born in Winnipeg, Canada on January 21, 1918. She lived in Hesperia for 33 years, with her husband Daniel E. Grant, who preceded her in death last year.
She was a homemaker all her life.
She went to College in her 60's and earned her Associate of Art Degree. She was a very Talented Artist, writer, and musician, and also had a love of gardening.
She is survived by her daughters: Dee Sutherland of California City, Nora Jackman of Hesperia, Sue Epplett and Penny Duncan of Apple Valley, and Lori Franklin of Alta Loma; sister Olive Lake of Northern California; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Monday, from 4 to 8 p.m. June 18, 2001 at Kern Memorial Chapel, 14444 7th Street, Victorville.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2001 at Desert View Cemetery.

HESPERIA - Jewel Ives, 76, passed away Wednesday June 13, 2001 in Kanab, Utah.
Born May 5, 1925 in Walthill, Nebraska to Bertha Jeanette Means and Edward Caleb Lane.
Married Wayne Harlan Ives April 5, 1945 in Tilden, Nebraska. He passed away March 16, 1995.
It seems the number one job in Jewel's life was taking care of people and making sure they were OK.
She was an avid walker who took time to smile and greet people, and even had little snacks for the dogs on her route. She loved the little children and always had time to give them hugs and kisses. She enjoyed playing the piano, and entertained people at the Senior Citizen's Center. She also loved to dance, sweep, polish and shine her home to a high gloss.
Jewel's faith was strong, and she loved her Lord Jesus, not once complaining during her illness. She made so many friends in her two years in Kanab, and we all have been truly blessed to know her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wayne Harlan Ives, and brothers and sisters Harold, Georgia, Corinne, Everett, Wilson, Anna, and Bill.
Jewel is survived by her children Bradford W. Ives of Lancaster, Calif., Robin Jeanette (Cecil) Campbell of kanab, Utah, Nancy Delene (Garry) Chastain of Lancaster, Calif.; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 5 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2001 in the Mosdell Mortuary Chapel in Kanab, Utah with viewing from 4:00-5:00 p.m.
Additional services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday June 18, in the Desert View Memorial Park Chapel In Hesperia.

He was a self-employed truck driver for over 30 years.

Born in Crossville, Ill., on Oct. 30, 1926, she lived in Tucson, Ariz., for seven months and in Hesperia for 15 of her 30 years in California.
She retired from Safetran Systems in Rancho Cucamonga after 17 years, and was a member of the Assembly of God church in Victorville.
She is survived by sons Michael Smith of Bullhead City, Ariz., and Jerry Rice; daughter Wanda Young of Rancho Cucamonga; grandchildren Chaurice, Melissa, Christina and John; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her son Glen Rice.
Memorial services were held in Tucson.

HESPERIA - Roy W. Stockman, 87, of Hesperia, died June 22, 2001, at Vencor Hospital in Ontario.
A retired mechanic, he was born May 29, 1914, in East Prairie, Mo., and was a Hesperia resident the past 12 years.
He had lived in Ontario for 30 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II.
He is survived by his six children: Winfred Leo Stockman of Severn, Md.; Terry Stockman of Ontario; Roy Stockman Jr. of Apple Valley; Peggy Minton of Redding; Jim Stockman of Fontana; Gary Stockman of Lancaster; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Private interment will be held in the Veterans Garden of Bellevue Memorial Park.
