Angelina Chavez Glasser
DOWNEY - Funeral services were held Jan. 4 at the Allen-English & Estrada Funeral Chapel in Bell Gardens for Angelina Chavez Glasser, who died Dec. 29 in Downey.
She was 62, born May 1, 1936 in San Antonio, Texas, and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth J. Glasser of Downey; her sons, William Marquez Jr. of Downey and Francis Marquez of Montebello; daughters, Desiree Marquez of Monterey Park, Angelina Harmon and Mary Ellen Marquez both of Georgia; sisters Helen Lee and Ernestine Lorona both of Arizona; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews and her aunt Josie Guardia of Arizona, who reared her from birth when her mother died.
Bishop Boyd Leavitt officiated. Ashes were placed Jan. 6 at Park Lawn Memorial Park in Commerce.
E. Eugene Leach
DOWNEY - Services were held Thursday, Jan. 7, at the Memorial Chapel of Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier for E. Eugene Leach, a former 20-year resident of Downey, who died Jan. 4 at a San Luis Obispo hospital.
He was born Dec. 15, 1911, in Creal Springs, Illinois, and had lived in San Luis Obispo for nine years after moving there from Downey. He was retired from Aerojet General in Fullerton.
He was a member of King David's Lodge No. 209 of San Luis Obispo, Royal Arch Masons, the High Twelve Club, and had been an active member of several Masonic Lodges over the past 66 years. He was a member of the San Luis Obispo United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, June B. Leach; his daughter and son-in-law Judith and John Connely of San Luis Obispo; two sisters, Melba Ingram of Terre Haute, Indiana, and Bertha Pauline Erickson of Missouri; grandchildren Todd Collely of Jamul, California, Diane and Mitch Zwarg of San Ramon, and Lisa and Mark Connely of San Luis Obispo; great-grandchildren Nicholas, Noah and Moriah Zwarg of San Ramon, and Timothy, Elizabeth, Michael and Matthew Connely of San Luis Obispo.
Patricia Ann Gabaldon
DOWNEY - Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 6, at the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary Chapel for Patricia Ann Gabaldon, a 10 year Downey resident and a sales engineer assistant for 23 years for General Electric Co.
She was born in Burlington, Vermont, June 9, 1940 and died at her home Dec. 31, 1998 at the age of 58.
She was a former resident of Los Angeles.
Survivors include her husband, Max Gabaldon; her daughters, Cheryl (Larry) Reed of Pittsfield, Mass., and Maxine (Mel) Caudillo of Whittier; brothers Bobby, Bradley and Mark Lavigne of Burlington, Mass.; her mother, Dorothy, and stepfather, Carlo Quaglietti of Pittsfield, Mass.; and five grandchildren.
Pastor Rolland Coburn of the First Fundamental Bible Church officiated. Burial followed at Rose Hills Memorial Park. Arrangements were by the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.
Shirley Doris Myers
DOWNEY - Funeral services will be private for Shirley Doris Myers, a resident of Downey for 18 years, who died at her home Jan. 5.
She was 63, born, in Johnson City, Tennessee March 5, 1935.
Survivors include her husband, Robert of Downey; her mother-in-law, Ruth Myers of Downey; and her son, Kermit Matthews of Greenville, South Carolina.
Arrangements are by the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.
Donald Charles Barnes
DOWNEY - Services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 13 at 1 p.m. at the Miller-Mies Mortuary Chapel for Donald Charles Barnes, a Downey resident for 65 years, who died at Kaiser Hospital in Bellflower Jan. 2.
He was a painter for General Veneer Manufacturing for 45 years, and was born in Canada.
Survivors include his wife, Evalyne Barnes; his son, Robert Barnes; his daughter, Cynthia Walters; and grandchildren Dustin Barnes, Donald Barnes, Kyle Walters and Lindey Walters.
Arrangements were by the Miller-Mies Mortuary of Downey.
Robert John Sullivan
DOWNEY - Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 24, at the Downey Chapel of Miller-Mies Mortuary for Robert John Sullivan, a lifetime Downey resident and tireless worker for improvement of in-home care for the disabled.
He was 56, born in Los Angeles, and died Jan. 21 in Downey Community Hospital.
He was a member of the Polio Survivors Association, a board member of Polio Survivors Association, was active in the L.A. County In-Home Supporting Services, and did all the agendas while working hard to improve in-home care for the disabled.
Survivors include his mother, Edna R. Sullivan; and sisters Ann, Marilyn, Kathleen and Julie.
Pastor John Rose officiated.
Burial followed at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Cypress.
Raymond L. Gregoire
SOUTH GATE - A Memorial Mass was heard Sunday, Jan. 18, at St. Helen's Catholic Church in South Gate for Raymond Louis Gregoire, a longtime South Gate resident who died Jan. 11 of coronary heart failure.
He was 61, born March 6, 1936 at St. Mary's Hospital in Long Beach. In his youth he worked in the oil fields of Long Beach, and was a former employee of Berg-Nelson Co., Inc., of Long Beach.
He was among the first students to attend St. Helen's Catholic School and graduated from South Gate High School in 1954.
He loved to fish and was very supportive of his family, known for his friendly personality, warm smile and keen wit.
Survivors include his parents, Richard and Marie Gregoire of South Gate; his son and daughter-in-law, Ray, Jr. and Denise Gregoire of Oakhurst; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and JoAnne Gregoire of Cypress; his sister, LaVonne Starkey of Downey; and numerous nieces, nephews and relatives.
Burial followed in Oakhurst, CA (near Yosemite), where his son's family resides.
Frank Marchese, Jr.
DOWNEY - A Funeral Mass will be heard today (Friday, Jan. 30) at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Dominic Savio Catholic Church in Bellflower for Frank Marchese, Jr., a Downey resident for 47 years and the former owner of F & M Construction Co. of Downey.
He was 52, born in Boston, Massachusetts, and died Jan. 27 at his Downey home of a prolonged cancer condition.
He was an educator at CSU-Los Angeles and Pius X-St. Matthias High School.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and Viet Nam, and held a position as youth minister at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Downey, St. Louise DeMarillac Church in West Covina, and St. Dominic Savio Church in Bellflower.
He was an established artist whose sale items contributed a sizeable amount to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church during the fund-raising effort after it suffered earthquake damage in 1989.
He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his former wife, Kathleen in 1985.
Survivors include his wife, Veronica of Downey; children, Michael Jude Marchese of the U.S.M.C., in Camp Pendleton, Francesca Marie Marchese of Cerritos; his mother, Eleanora Marchese of Downey; a brother, Lawrence Marchese of Bellflower; and a grandson, Jesse Michael Garcia Marchese.
Burial will follow at All Souls Cemetery.
Donations are suggested in his memory to the Frank Marchese Memorial Scholarship Fund at Pius X-St. Matthias High School in Downey.
Arrangements are by the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.
