Katherine F. Barnabei
DOWNEY - Katherine Frances Barnabei, a Downey resident for 22 years and an employee of Morgan and Sampson, will be transported to Baltimore Memorial Cemetery for burial.
She was 71, born in Baltimore, Maryland, and died July 13 at Belmont Grand Nursing Center, Long Beach.
She was a member of the Garabaldi Social Club for six years.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph William Barnabei of Downey; and a daughter, Bridget Barnabei of Downey.
Burial will be at Baltimore Memorial Cemetery.
Arrangements are by the Miller-Mies Mortuary of Downey.
Lydia Barbara Wilcke
DOWNEY - Graveside services were held Thursday, July 16, at Rose Hills Memorial Park, for Lydia Barbara Wicke, a resident of Downey for 57 years, who died July 11 at the Downey Community Health Center.
She was 89, born in Germany, and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her son, Robert Wilcke; and a granddaughter, Kristin Wizoch.
Pastor John Rose officiated. Arrangements were by the Miller-Mies Mortuary of Downey.
Frederico Leopoldo Sandoval
DOWNEY - A Vigil Service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 17, at the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary Chapel for Frederico Leopoldo Sandoval, a resident of Downey for 13 years, who died at his home July 11.
He was 54, born in Avondale, Colorado, Aug. 14, 1943, and was a former resident of Cudahy.
He worked as a veneer layout man for 39 years, most recently for Eppink of California.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Alice Sandoval of Downey; children Fred Sandoval of Flagstaff, Arizona, Claudine Trigueros of Downey, and Christine Carrillo of Norwalk; a brother, Samuel Sandoval of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and seven grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be heard at 9:30 a.m. Monday, July 20, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Rev. Father Peter Coffer officiating.
Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
Arrangements are by the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.
Julia Conte
WHITTIER - Funeral services will, be at 3 p.m. Monday, July 20 at the Rose Hills Memorial Chapel, Whittier, for Julia Conte, a homemaker, who died July 15.
She was 91, and lived in Newport Coast.
Survivors include her sons, Walter and Roger Conte; a daughter, Darlene Conte-Jervis; grandchildren Greg, Dale, Julie, Roger, Jr., Jeff and Joel; and great-grandchildren Adam, Nicole, Brett, Jilian and Shane.
A visitation will be held Saturday and Sunday, July 19 and 19 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Pacific View Mortuary Park, 3500 Pacific View Drive, Newport Beach.
Burial will follow at Rose Hills.
Arrangements are by the Pacific View Mortuary of Newport Beach.
Jean C. Switalski
DOWNEY - A Funeral Mass was heard Thursday at St. Raymond's Catholic Church for Jean C. Switalski, a 25-year resident of Downey and a former store manager for Alin Party Supply Company for 11 years.
She was 62, a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and died July 13 in Downey Community Hospital.
She was a former resident of San Diego.
Survivors include her husband, Robert; sons Dale of Van Nuys, Scott of Downey; daughter Sharon Switalski of Irvine; mother, Sophia Popper of Milwaukee; a sister, Audrey Rydlewicz of Wisconsin; and five grandchildren.
Cremation and interment followed at All Souls Cemetery.
Arrangements were by the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.
Ann Helen Bahling, 81
DOWNEY - A Funeral Mass was heard Tuesday, July 15 at St. Raymond's Catholic Church for Ann Helen Bahling, who died July 12 in Kaiser Hospital in Bellflower.
She was 81, and worked in marketing for 25 years for Sears Roebuck Company.
She was a former resident of Lynwood, and was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, in 1986.
Survivors include her daughters, Joyce Mitchell of Downey, Kathleen Marshall of Oregon; three sisters and four grandchildren.
Burial followed at Resurrection Cemetery.
Arrangements were by the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.
James 'Jimmie' Martin
DOWNEY - A Mass was heard Wednesday, July 16, in the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel for James "Jimmie" Martin, a resident of Downey, since 1981 and a former mechanic for 20 years for the American Can Company.
He was 80 and died in Downey Community Hospital July 11.
He was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include his wife, Tomie Martin of Downey; brothers, Robert of Saugus and John of San Pedro; sister, Lucille Van Buskirk of Kent, Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews, including Blanche Layana of Downey.
The Rev. Father John Moloney, pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church officiated.
Burial followed at Calvary Cemetery.
Arrangements were by the Downey Zrelak Mortuary Chapel.
Anna Mae Ensman
DOWNEY - Services will be today, Friday, July 2, at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes, for Anna Mae Ensman, a resident of Downey who died June 27.
She was born in Indiana Oct. 16, 1919.
Survivors include her husband, Edmund; daughters Ellen A. (Ed) Woodiwiss and Diane Smith; sons Joe (Nita) Ensman and Dan (Gloria) Ensman; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; sisters Ginny Tozzi and Ellen (Charles) McGregor.
