Wilda Wimmer McRae
DOWNEY - Funeral services were held Feb. 25 at the Downey 1st Ward Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for Wilda Wimmer McRae, a longtime Downey resident and a former employee of Douglas Aircraft.
Born Sept. 30, 1908 in Vernal, Utah, she died Feb. 21 in Downey.
"Grandma Wilda," as she was known to many, was an active member of the Downey 1st Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors include her daughter, Ellen Osterbauer of Downey; her son, Garry O. McRae of Utah; a sister, Gwen Johnson of Buena Park; brothers Clifford Wimmer of Washington, and Ray Wimmer of Utah; 16 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Burial followed at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier.
Arrangements were by the Allen-English & Estrada Funeral Service of Bell Gardens.
Daryl Eugene Hubbard
DOWNEY - Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 28), at the Memorial Chapel of Rose Hills Mortuary in Whittier for Daryl Eugene Hubbard, who was born in Downey and attended Warren High School.
He was 45, lived in Hesperia, and died at his home Feb. 19.
He was an employee at AFG Industry Inc., in Victorville, where he worked for 10 years.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie; three children, Jimmy, Amber and Paul; his mother, Dorothy of Downey; two brothers, Jay Bowman of Delta, Colorado, and Michael Hubbard of Big Bear; and his sister, Linda Keehn of San Bernardino.
Thelma Uzes
DOWNEY - Thelma L. Uzes, an accomplished pianist and a former elementary school teacher in Downey, for many years before moving to Napa, died Jan. 29.
She was born in Livermore Falls, Maine, May 4, 1905, and was a 1926 graduate of the University of Redlands.
She also studied at the Fontainebleau School of Music in France.
She lived in Downey more than 40 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Francois, in 1952.
Survivors include her sister, Ruth Grijalva of Long Beach; her daughter, Marie Stoker of Napa; sons, Bud of Loomis, Charles of Athens, Georgia, and Robert of Hacienda Heights; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two nieces and two nephews.
Roy William Chandler
DOWNEY - Funeral services for Roy William Chandler, a Downey resident for 45 years and an employee of Galaxy Enterprises, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 3 at the First Christian Church of Downey, Fourth and New streets.
He was 52, born in Detroit, Michigan, and died Feb. 26 in Downey Community Hospital.
He was a member of the First Christian Church of Downey.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Lynn Chandler of Downey; two sons, Sean and Bryan; a daughter, Christy; his mother, Geraldine Unsel; a sister, Joy Townsend of Long Beach; brothers, Tom of Downey, and Bobby Unsel; and a granddaughter, Taylor.
Burial will be private.
Arrangements are by the Miller-Mies Mortuary of Downey.
In lieu of flowers, a donation is suggested to your favorite cancer charity.
Mary Margaret Pleiss
DOWNEY - Graveside services were held at Rose Hills Memorial Park for Mary Margaret Pleiss, a longtime Downey resident and active member in the First Presbyterian Church of Downey.
She was 80, a native of Carbondale, Illinois, and died in Whittier, Feb. 8. She was a volunteer for the Heart Association and the Community Chest.
Survivors include her son, James D. Strickland; her daughter, Valerie S. Higgins; a brother, Gail E. Mansbridge; sisters, Ruth B. Wooldridge, Evelyn I. Jones; grandchildren, James Dale, Jennifer, Leah, Jeff and Timothy; and 14 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Hospice House, 12401 Washington Blvd., Whittier, CA 90602.
Mary W. Proffitt
DOWNEY - funeral services will be held today (Friday, Feb. 28) at 1 p.m. at the Miller Mies Mortuary Chapel in Downey, for Mary W. Proffitt, a 70-year resident of Downey, and a nursery schoolteacher for 20 years with the Los Angeles County School District.
She was 93, a native of Bryson, Texas, and died Feb. 25 at her home in Downey.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Downey, and the Woman's Club of Downey.
Survivors include her son, Richard Proffitt, of Downey; a sister, Paulie Cambell, of Garden Grove; and nieces and nephews.
Burial will follow at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier.
Eugene Ernest Brouillette
DOWNEY - Funeral services will be held today (Friday, Feb. 28) at 11 a.m. at the Allen-English & Estrada Funeral Chapel in Bell Gardens, for Eugene Ernest Brouillette, a former machine operator at Container Corporation of America, who died Feb. 26 in Downey.
He was 95, born Jan. 1, 1902 in Volin, South Dakota, and lived in Cudahy, for 35 years.
Survivors include his sons, Nelson of New Mexico, Larry of Downey; daughter, Patricia Lane of Downey; a sister, Marie Barnes of Riverside; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Burial will follow at Park Lawn Memorial Park in Commerce.
Claire Manning
LA MIRADA - Graveside funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 26, at Park Lawn Memorial Park for Claire Manning, a resident of La Mirada, who died Feb. 21st at Whittier Hospital.
She was a former 20 year resident of Bell, and worked as an office secretary for the California Ink Company.
She was preceded in death by husband Lloyd Manning in 1982.
Survivors include her sons, Arnold Forget of Downey, Norman Forget of Des Moines, Iowa; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were by the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.
