Irene Laverne Muller
5-23-1921 - 7-15-1998
DOWNEY - Funeral services were held Saturday, July 18, at the First Baptist Church of Downey for Irene Laverne Muller, a Downey resident for 46 years and homemaker.
She was 77, born May 23, 1921 in Albany, Oregon, and was a former resident of Huntington Park.
She was active in the Christian Women's Club of Downey, and was preceded in death by her husband, Jean, in 1977.
Survivors include her sons, Richard Muller of Downey, Donald Muller of Norco; a daughter, Janet Manchester of Placentia; brothers Rev. Leo Schlegel of Salem, Oregon, George Schlegel of Albany, Oregon; sisters Ollivene Glavin of Irving, Texas, Doris Harvey of Tustin; grandsons Nathan, Jeffrey, Erik, Christopher and Justin.
The Rev. Leo Schlegel and Rev. Wade Olson officiated.
Burial followed at Rose Hills Memorial Park.
Arrangements were by the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.
Audrae Estelle Costa
DOWNEY - A Memorial Service was held at Forest Lawn in Cypress July 15 for Audrae Estelle Costa, a longtime Downey resident and a former deputy clerk at the Huntington Park Municipal Court, who died in Downey Community Hospital July 10.
She was born April 10, 1909 in Blairstown, Iowa.
Survivors include her husband, Walter; a son, Roy Hansen of Lakewood; three granddaughters, and two great-grandsons.
Arrangements were by the Neptune Society.
Fred J. Hawley, 73
REDDING - Services for Fred J. Hawley, the owner and operator of a beauty salon for more than 40 years in Downey, were held July 9 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Redding.
He was 73, born Aug. 19, 1924 in Rothsay, Minnesota, and died July 3 at his Redding home.
He moved to Shasta County in 1991 from Lakewood.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army in World War II, a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Redding, the Redding Moose Lodge and the Shasta County Senior Citizens.
Survivors include his wife, Clarice; his daughter, and son-in-law, Lisa and Randy Bright of Redding; a brother, Gene of Montana, granddaughters, Megan and Toni Bright of Redding; sisters, Alice Helgeson, Orion Martinson and Evelyn Martinson all of Minnesota, and Vera Helgeson of Auburn.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3290 Bechelli Lane, Redding, CA 96002 or the Mercy Hospice, 1544 Market St., Redding, CA.
Arrangements were by the Allen & Dahl Funeral Chapel in Redding.
Yvette Rose Berry, 46
DOWNEY - Graveside services will be held tomorrow (Saturday, July 25) at 10 a.m. at All Souls Cemetery for Yvette Rose Berry, a resident of Anaheim, who died at her home there July 19, 1998.
She was 46, born in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Survivors include her father; her twin sister of Downey; nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are by the Miller-Mies Mortuary of Downey.
Francisco Ramon Abad
MAYWOOD - Services were held Thursday, July 22, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church for Francisco Ramon Abad, a 28-year resident of Maywood and a self-employed gardener.
He was 93, born in Spain, and died July 18 at Monterey Park Hospital.
Father John Moloney officiated.
Burial followed at Resurrection Cemetery.
Arrangements were by the Miller-Mies Mortuary of Downey.
Ruby E. Lenkner, 90
DOWNEY - A Funeral Mass will be heard today (Friday, July 24) at 9 a.m. at Saint Raymond's Catholic Church for Ruby E. Lenkner, a six-year Downey resident, and a former mail order representative for Sears Roebuck.
She was 90, born June 13, 1908, and died at Sunrise Care Center July 21, 1998.
She was a former longtime resident of South Gate and Huntington Park.
Survivors include her husband, William J. (Bill) Lenkner; a daughter, Sharon Spencer of Highland; a son, Jack Ullrich of Kansas City, Kansas; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Burial will follow at Riverside National Cemetery.
Arrangements are by the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.
Christopher C. O'Leary
DOWNEY - A Funeral Mass was heard Tuesday, July 22 at St. Raymond's Catholic Church for Christopher Charles O' Leary, 17, who died at Kaiser Hospital in Bellflower July 18.
He was born April 8, 1980, in the same hospital, lived in Bell Gardens, and had just completed the 11th grade at Warren High School.
He would have been a senior at Warren.
Survivors include his parents, Douglas and Debbie O'Leary; a sister, Kathleen Louise O'Leary; a brother, Kevin Michael O'Leary; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Long of Bell Gardens, and Mr. and Mrs. Bob O'Leary of Norwalk.
Burial followed at All Souls Cemetery. The Rev. Father Steve Devoran officiated.
Arrangements were by the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.
Jesus Valero
DOWNEY - A Funeral Mass was held Wednesday, July 23, at St. Raymond's Catholic Church for Jesus D. Valero, 76, a resident of Compton, who died July 17.
He was born in Mexico, and was a former metal finisher for Everfrost Co. for 35 years.
Survivors include his wife, Bertha Valero; his sons, Jess of Harbor City, Robert of Chino, Richard of Long Beach; his daughters, Connie Fixico of Downey, Bertha Rodriguez of West Covina, Carmela Stanley and Lupe Dougherty of Arizona; 13 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Burial followed at All Souls Cemetery.
Arrangements were by the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.
