Patricia Deneige Nagle
Born October 27, 1928, in Austin, MN, went home to the Lord on May 5, 2003, in San Rafael. Patricia is survived by her daughter, Darla Jean Nagle of San Rafael, sister Roma J. O'Keefe and husband Daniel of San Rafael, and sister Marie L. Browning of San Francisco. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by her husband Richard T. Nagle, Retired U.S. Coast Guard, her parents Eugene L. and Deneige A. Murphy, her sister Juanita M. Graves, and brother James E. Murphy. Patricia was cared for with love and kindness by the staff at Aldersley Retirement Community during her last two and one half years. A Rosary Service will be held on Friday, May 16, 2003, 7:00 p.m., at Keaton Mortuary, 1022 E Street, San Rafael, followed by a Funeral Mass Saturday, May 17, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. in the Mission San Rafael Arcangel, 1104 Fifth Avenue, San Rafael, Rev. Margaret Robertson
Passed away May 12, 2003. Born in San Francisco, she was a Marin resident since 1945. Her loving husband Charles Robertson survives her, along with daughters Susan James and Vicky Merritt, and her brother Niel Bowman. She is also survived by six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Her memory will live on through the circle of love of her family and all whom she so beautifully touched. Doris A. Ruggiero
Aged 86 years, passed away suddenly on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2003. Born Domenica Ramorino in San Francisco on June 10, 1916 as part of a large loving family. Raised in the Mission District and attended St. Paul's Grammar School and High School. Married Alfred Ruggiero in 1939 and had a wonderful marriage of 32 years until his death in 1971. She was a tidy housewife, good cook, and made the best cookies ever. Her grandchildren fondly remember her "egg in a boat". Although a small person she had broad shoulders. Her family was always first and she was always there for them, in good times or emergencies. A life long volunteer she began with leadership in the Girl Scouts, continued with teaching CCD in her parish church, and worked at Hodge Podge, the Hospice thrift store in San Rafael. She put in over 2,000 hours as a Pink Lady at Marin General Hospital and also spent hours at home fabricating bandages used in neurosurgery. She was a member of the Young at Heart and also the Tamalpais Organ Club. She will be missed by her daughters Carol Zumwalt and Victoria Lawrence (Larry), grandchildren Kurt (Julie) and Jon Zumwalt (Georgia), Chiara Gajar (Ron), and Sabrina Lawrence, brother Charles Ramorino (Joann), sisters Francesca Bowman and Jo McNichols, and many special nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at St. Sebastian's Church in Greenbrae on May 20, 2003 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request prayers to the Blessed Mother or remembrance to a favorite charity.

Agnes M. Simon
Passed away Saturday, May 10, 2003 in Valparaiso at the age of 93. She was born December 3, 1909 in New York, New York to James and Margaret (Burke) Hardy. In March of 1927 in Sioux City, Iowa, she marriage Leo E. Simon who passed away in June of 1964. She is survived by her son Leo M. Simon of Valparaiso, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also preceding her in death are her parents; three sons, James E., Richard N., and Donald F. Simon; her daughter, Betty Lou Simon; three sisters; and three brothers. Agnes was a member of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Valparaiso, a charter member of Young Ladies Rosariun Institute in Larkspur, California, V.F.W. Post 988 Ladies Auxiliary. She was assistant dietitian at Ross General Hospital in Ross, California retiring from there in 1979. Agnes was also a caterer and caregiver for the elderly. Family and friends may call after 6:00 PM on Thursday (TODAY) May 15th at Monte's Chapel of the Hills, 330 Redhill Avenue in San Anselmo. A Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 PM, Friday May 16, 2003. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Church in Larkspur at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in San Rafael. Ladislav Zajicek
Known at LADIK by his friends, he was born January 28, 1909 in Praha, Czech Republic. He passed away at home on May 12, 2003 at the age of 94. He will be missed by his wife Slavka, daughter Jana, son-in-law Daniel, granddaughter Janicka, her husband Richard and great-grandchildren Daniel and Monica. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 17th at 2:15 p.m. at Valley Memorial Park Chapel, 650 Bugeia Lane in Novato, CA 94945.

Evelyn A. Borjeson
Passed away in her home after a courageous fight with cancer on May 8, 2003 at the age of 53. She was the beloved wife of Peter and loving mother of Gina, Gennifer, Rodito and Grace. She was an outgoing, caring, loving person and eager to entertain her friends with her natural talent for singing. She will forever be cherished by her family and friends. We all miss Evelyn terribly. Friends are invited to attend Visitation and Rosary, Thursday, May 15, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with Rosary starting at 7 p.m., at Daphne Funerals Marin, 601 Tamalpais Drive, Corte Madera. Jack de Benedictis
Teacher and Eternal Student, died suddenly and peacefully while gardening at his home in Point Reyes Station on April 23, 2003. He was 82. Jack was born in Pittsburgh, PA, and received a BA in English from the University of Pittsburgh. During WWII he served in U.S. Army Intelligence. In 1942, he marriage Doris Gillium, who was to become the mother of his three children. After the war he completed a Master's degree in Slavic Languages at U.C. Berkeley. Jack began his lifelong teaching career at Modesto Junior College in 1959, and later spent over 30 years at the College of Marin, where he received special recognition for "his consideration of the needs of his students, the welfare of his department and the College, his scholarship, thoroughness, patience, warmth and gentle humor." At age 59, Jack met the last true love of his life, Michele Maltseff. They marriage in 1989, living together happily in love for 23 years in Point Reyes. Jack is missed by his wife, Michele Maltseff de Benedictis, Point Reyes Station; brother Paul de Benedictis, Sonoma; daughters Jo de Benedictis, Santa Rosa and Juliana Cherry, Bozeman, Montana; son Paul James de Benedictis, Menlo Park; grandchildren Robyn Harrington, Julien and Anna de Benedictis, and so many others. A Memorial Gathering will be held in the Redwood Grove at the College of Marin in Kentfield, at Noon on Tuesday, May 20th.

James Austin Lill
A civic leader and husband of dearly beloved wife of 48 years, Beverly, passed away May 7th, 2003 after a long illness. Born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1917. He resided in the Bay Area since 1946, 45 years in Ross. During WWII, he served in the Army in the South Pacific and New Zealand from 1940-1946, rising to a Master Sergeant. He retired from IBM, an Account Manager for 35 years. A lifetime member of the Guardsmen of San Francisco; he served on the Ross Town Council from 1988-1992. He instigated the Ross 4th of July Parade and was the legendary Uncle Sam for all the 12 years. He helped fund and build Ross Memorial. He was a member of St. John's Church; Rotary Club of Ross Valley; Tam House, Ecumenical Housing and Commission on Aging. He was also a member of the infamous Geezer Patrol. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Robin of Paris, son John of Larkspur, a daughter Barbara Jones (David) of Wellington, N.Z., grandchildren Nathalie of London and Philip of Wellington, N.Z. Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, May 20th at 11 AM at the Main Art & Garden Center, 30 Sir Francis Drake Blvd., Ross. Memorial contributions: St. John's Church, Box 217, Ross, 94957; Rotary Club of Ross Valley, Box 415, San Anselmo 94977. Arrangements by Neptune Society.

Salvatore Albert Lococo
Of Corte Madera, passed away peacefully May 11, 2003 at the age of 79. Beloved husband of Katherine for 55 years, cherished father of Jomar (and Randall Fowler), Janice and Michael Holland, Lawrence and Kathy Lococo, Judy (and Tony Gambardella), Anne Marie and Greg Martin. Loving grandfather of Marisa, Torin, Anthony, Lauren, Siena, Dante, Marco, and Vincent. Brother of Albert Lococo, Faye Christani, Marie Filkowski, and the late John Lococo. He was a native of San Francisco. Raised in North Beach, Sal worked in the family business at Fisherman's Wharf during his early life. Later, he was the owner of Gateway Hardware in San Francisco for 44 years. Sal was a highly decorated WWII Army veteran of the European Theater. Family and friends may attend the Funeral Mass Saturday, May 17, 2003 at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick Church, Larkspur. Private Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery, San Rafael. William Saunders Neal, M.D.
Age 89, born June 3, 1913, died May 7, 2003 from heart failure and complications of Parkinson's. Dr. Neal was a Pediatrician who conceived of and founded the Marin Medical Group in Terra Linda, a multi-specialty, family-centered group practice. Dr. Neal loved gardening and was a Life-Master in bridge. He is survived by his daughter, Marcia Neal Kent, his stepdaughter, Joyce Hirschfeld, and by grandchildren, Alicia, Janeen, Jenny and Becky. He will be cremated and there will not be a service.

Mary A. Weiss
Mary A. Weiss of Petaluma died on May 8th, 2003 at Kaiser Hospital in San Rafael, after a severe illness. She is survived by her children: Larry Talbott, Rosa Shilanski, Robert Talbott, and Mary Talbott, and their families. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Weiss. Bernice M. "Bunny" Zang
"Bunny" Zang passed away in Rohnert Park on Sunday, May 11, 2003 at the age of 89 years. She was the wife of the late Ernest Zang. Loving mother of Ernest Zang and his wife Karen of Rohnert Park, Roselie Thornton of San Mateo, Claudette Crum of Loomis, CA and the late Richard Franchesci. Dear grandmother of ten and great grandmother of eighteen. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was born in San Francisco to the late Herman and Esola (Vanucci) Montalli. Phillip (Rudy) Fogel
Died May 3, 2003 in San Rafael. A great friend to his coworkers and customers at A & W Restaurant. He will be deeply missed by all of us. Burial will be at Mount Tamalpais Cemetery in San Rafael, CA.

William G. Jones
On May 3, 2003, William "Gould" Jones, 87, of San Rafael, died peacefully with his loving wife, Carol Jones, by his side. The son of Willie and Eva Jones, he was born in Washington, DC. He attended St. Albans School, Princeton and Northwestern University. Mr. Jones was a retired consultant for McKinsey and President of Pandick Press. He was a member of Church of the Nativity in San Rafael. Mr. Jones retired as a Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves, having served in Normandy, Egypt and Northern France. He received several military decorations including the Medal of Order of the British Empire and a WWII Victory Medal. He was also a member of several clubs including the Princeton Tigers Inn, The Marin Yacht Club, the Pacific Union Club and the ROA. He had a passion for flying, golfing and sailing and dominoes. His friends and family will remember him for his loyalty, humor and modesty. Mr. Jones is survived by his son, Gould Creighton Jones and his wife Rhoda of Bend, OR; his daughter, Lindsay Lowe and her husband Ronald of Honolulu, HI; and his former wife, Joan Hughson. His grandchildren also survive Mr. Jones: Lodi, Ben, William, and Carol's granddaughter, Megan Young, as well as many dear friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 16, 2003 at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity in San Rafael, at 10:00 AM by Fr. Murray Hammond. The family requests that memorials be made to the Marin Convalescent and Rehabilitation Hospital of Tiburon.

Lillian Sophia Verhalen
Of Mill Valley passed away on May 10, 2003 after a brief illness. She was a resident of Marin County for over 60 years and a founding member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Tiburon. Lillian was born in Chicago in 1921 and moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in mid 1920s. She moved to Sausalito in 1935 with her family where she met and marriage her husband Joseph Verhalen in 1941. She was a graduate of Tamalpais High School, class of '39. Besides her family, Lillian's main focus in life was the care and development of her church. She wore many hats over the years including Sunday school teacher and superintendent, elder and deacon. She served on pastor nominating committees and was part of the Committee for the New Sanctuary that was dedicated in 1992. All these church roles came second in her love and dedication to children. She worked as a special education assistant in Marin County schools and was always among the first to welcome the children attending Sunday worship. Lillian's spirit and love of life brought her in constant contact with a wide circle of community leaders, friends and family. Her faith was her foundation, which served her in dealing with her life long medical battles. Her faith was also an inspiration to others with whatever battles they might be facing. She is predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Joseph and survived by her son Brian N. Verhalen of Clio, CA; grandsons Brian G. Verhalen of Mill Valley and Dennis Verhalen of San Rafael; granddaughter Trish Luna of Rohnert Park; and great-grandchildren Daniel and Gabrielle Luna, and Alena and Jolie Verhalen. A Memorial Service in celebration of Lillian's life will be at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Tiburon at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 15th. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lillian Verhalen Children's Fund through the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Tiburon.
