Richard F. Imsick
Died in San Rafael, CA on July 22, 2003 at age 75. Devoted husband of Beverly J. Imsick of Petaluma. Loving father of Rhonda E. Baratta and her husband Robert of Reno, NV and Rebecca R. Imsick of Tiburon. Loving brother of Elaine Cerelli of Danville. Loving brother-in-law of Bill and Pat Loew of Pacifica. Survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was a native of San Francisco and a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church of Petaluma. Mr. Imsick served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and also was a member of the German Shepherd Club of America and Rolling Wheels Automobile Club of San Francisco. Friends and family are invited to meet for the Funeral Mass on Monday, July 28, 2003 at 10:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 35 Liberty Street, Petaluma. Ralph H. Phelps
San Rafael Educator
Died July 17, 2003, at Pleasant Care Convalescent Hospital in Novato after a long illness. He was born in Denver Colorado, September 23, 1915 and came to San Francisco at age ten. He was a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley where he also received an MA and teaching and administrator credentials. Prior to coming to San Rafael High School as vice-principal in 1956, he taught at South Fork Union High School at Miranda in Humbolt County, Richmond High School, Lafayette Elementary School as principal, and San Francisco State College. He subsequently held many positions in the San Rafael schools, including principal of San Rafael High School and Madrone High School, administrative assistant at Terra Linda High School and head counselor at San Rafael High School. He retired in 1976. He served in the Navy from 1944 to 1946. Mr. Phelps was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Marin Retired Teachers Association. He had an interest in photography and served as president of the Ross Valley Camera Club in 1987. He was appointed to the Marin Mental Health Advisory Board in 1989 and later organized a self help support group for manic depression. Hobbies included golf, hiking on Mt. Tamalpais, backpacking in the Sierra, and traveling. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lucile, son Kenneth Phelps of Mill Valley, son Donald Phelps of San Rafael, and daughter Doreen Yates of Walnut Creek, four grandchildren: David Phelps of San Rafael, John Phelps of Oakland, Lisa Yates of Portland, Oregon, and Andrew Yates of Walnut Creek, one great-grandson Emerson Phelps, and one sister, Ethel Robinson of Redwood City. A Memorial Service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 9 Ross Valley Drive, San Rafael on Sunday, August 3rd at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First United Methodist Church. Nora Pomeroy Plant
Age 81, of San Francisco, died at home on July 23rd, 2003, lovingly surrounded by her family, friends, and her dog Honey Bun. Nora was the wife and companion of the late David N. Plant. She leaves behind brother Nelson Pomeroy of Sun Valley, Idaho, daughter Susan (Derek) Arndt of Kirkland, Washington, son Tom (Debbie) Plant of Canyon Lake, California, and grandchildren Jessica Arndt of San Francisco and Thomas Arndt of Kirkland, Washington. Her eldest son, Peter Nelson Plant, predeceased her. An avid supporter of the San Francisco Symphony, as well as the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Nora made music with all parts of her life. As a voracious reader who delighted in words, Nora was rarely without a scrabble board, crossword puzzle, or a good book. She was a perfect trip taker and an even better trip planner, and loved nothing more than contemplating distant lands from the fireside comfort of her living room in Inverness, California. More than anything, Nora made people feel at home, and she kept the chairs around her filled with friends and family. She is best known for her delightfully sparkling wit and her twinkly blue eyes, and is most missed for the loyalty and love she shared with all. Any contributions in her name are welcome at the Friends of the San Francisco Public Library, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, or the Fund for Public Education. "The wonder of the world, the beauty and the power, the shapes of things, their colors, lights, and shades; these I saw. Look, ye, also while life lasts."

Judy Alicia Connelly (Widman)
On July 22, 2003, Judy Alicia, native of San Francisco and long time resident of Marin County passed away. Loving mother of Thomas C. Connelly and John R. Connelly. Sister of Ann C. Frost, and survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A Rosary Service will be offered on Saturday, July 26th at 10:15 a.m. followed by a Memorial Mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Rita Church, 100 Marinda Drive, Fairfax. Rev. Gary Lombardi celebrant.

Perry I. Harris
Living life to the fullest until the end, Perry Harris died at 96 on July 12, 2003. A longtime resident of the Bay Area, born in Larkspur on November 13, 1906, he was a proud graduate of Lowell High School of San Francisco in 1925 and UC Berkeley in 1929. Following his father in the San Francisco waterfront business named "Joe Harris Seaman's Outfitters," Perry was a familiar figure in the shipping and boating industry as a outfitter and a sailor. He helped make "Joe Harris" a well-known and respected label. Perry was a no-nonsense guy with plenty of energy. He played tennis or swam daily; he delighted in exploring Bay Area back roads with his "Lack-A-Plan" buddies. He had a long and proud association with Hospice of Marin, where he and his late wife, Doba Lee, were active fundraisers. Perry was a talented piano player who never hesitated to play whenever he spotted an available piano. He entertained residents at convalescent hospitals on a regular basis (where often he was older than the patients), and he devoted many hours for Jewish Family Services visiting those in need of companionship. Perry was always an ardent sports fan. He was nicknamed "Bucky" after a major league baseball player of his youth. He supported Cal as a Bear Backer through winning and losing seasons. For years he maintained his membership in the San Francisco Yacht Club (which honored him recently by flying its flag at half-mast). Perry is survived by his sister, Shirley Harris Eastham, his grandchild, Calhoon Harris, his stepchildren, Victor Goldberg (and wife Stephanie), Karen Adelson (and husband Ken), and Adalee Brown (and husband Bruce), their children, and others. Donations may be made in Perry's honor to Hospice of Marin, at 21 Tamal Vista, Suite 101, Corte Madera, CA 94925. A private Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Patricia Joan Laxton
Died on July 23, 2003 at her residence in San Anselmo. She was born on August 15, 1922 in Lawton Oklahoma, the daughter of Frederick C. and Jewell M. Nelson. As the daughter of an Army officer, she lived in many different places in the United States and in the Phillipine Islands until she finally settled in San Anselmo, California. She graduated from high school in Sacramento, California in 1940 and attended Mills College and Georgia State Women's College. She marriage William Laxton of San Rafael and had one son who died at an early age. She is predeceased by her husband William Laxton, and her son, William, Jr.; and is survived by her brother James Nelson of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, and three nephews, Douglas, Steven and James Nelson. Funeral assistance provided by Mount Tamalpais Mortuary & Cemetery, 2500 5th Avenue, San Rafael, CA 415-459-2500.

Josephine Myers
A Resident of San Anselmo
Died peacefully after a fall while gardening at the age of 93. A former resident of Novato, she was a longtime member of the Novato Garden Club. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Strom, of San Anselmo, her niece, Susan Webb, of Bakersfield, and numerous relatives in Denmark with whom she had remained close over the years. As per her request, she was cremated. Arrangements were handled by Mt. Tamalpais Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, please make your donation to Hospice of Marin.

V. Rev. Michael Prokurat, Ph.D.
Born February 8, 1950 to Michael and Mary Prokurat in Detroit, Michigan, died July 23, 2003 in Spring, TX. Fr. Michael was a priest in the Orthodox Church in America and for the past nine years was Associate Professor of Sacred Scripture at the University of Saint Thomas Graduate School of Theology at St. Mary's Seminary in Houston, TX. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; daughters, Natalie Kaiser and husband, Paul, of Santa Rosa, CA, Melanie Gogol-Prokurat and husband, Tobias Muench, of Davis, CA and Tatiana Moody of Spring, TX; and grandchildren, Paul Anthony Kaiser, Theadora Kaiser, Dominique Kaiser, Michael Harding and Nicholas Moody. For those desiring, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 570127, Houston, TX 77257. Friends and family are invited to attend the Panihida Service on Sunday, July 27th, 2003 at 5:00 PM and the Liturgy Monday, July 28th at 9:00 a.m. The Funeral Service will begin at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 28th, 2003. Caitlin Slattery
A Resident of Greenbrae, CA
Peacefully passed on July 23, 2003 after a long battle with cancer. No one who knew her was left unaffected. Recently graduated from San Rafael High School. She is survived by her parents: Brian and Kathy and her brother, Patrick. Her grandparents: Robert and Margaret Slattery and Robert and Bonnie Hayes, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. A Celebration of Caitlin's Life will be held on Sunday, July 27th at 1:00 p.m. at Keaton's Mortuary in San Rafael. Joan Clark Steinhorst
A Resident of Greenbrae, CA
Passed away June 21, 2003 in Terra Linda at the age of 65 after a six month courageous battle with cancer. Her strength, independence and spirit will be remembered and cherished by her family and her many wonderful loyal friends. Joan was a resident of Marin for over 30 years after relocating here from the Midwest. Joan enjoyed a long career as an RN with Kaiser, SF. A few of her many joys included spending time with friends and family, especially the grandchildren; dining; shopping and collecting antiques. She is survived by her two children, Greta Steinhorst of Antioch, CA; Eric Steinhorst of Rohnert Park, CA; her four grandchildren, Hailey, Karsten, Kendall and Sean; her mother, Rose Clark of Conway, NH, and her sister, Jaqui Mulley of Denver, CO. Following her wishes there will be no service, but a gathering to celebrate her life and share remembrances will be held at a later date. At her request, her ashes will be scattered along the Pacific shoreline near Stinson Beach.

Derek Jacobson
Died Wednesday, July 16, 2003 of Meningitis, at the age of 22. He will be sadly missed by family and friends. Please join Derek's family for a celebration of his life at 17696 Orchard Avenue, Guerneville, CA on Sunday, July 27th at 1 p.m. If so desired, in lieu of flowers, donations to the Meningitis Foundation of America would be appreciated by his family.

Walter C. Kane
Of San Rafael died in Greenbrae Tuesday, July 22, 2003. He was 78. Loving husband of Margaret Kane. Dear father of George (Diane) Kane, Deborah (Toby) Brown, Penelope Kane, Elizabeth Santa Cruz, and the late Jeffrey Kane. Adored grandfather of Sam and Zoe Kane, Shane and Ian Brown, and Jeff and Mela Santa Cruz. A native of Brooklyn New York, Mr. Kane was a retired executive in the shipping industry. He worked for Cunard Lines in New York and P&O British Cruise Lines in San Francisco and later worked for Golden Gate Ferry. Wally was a veteran of the U. S. Army WWII, fighting in Italy, France, The Battle of the Bulge and Germany. Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass Friday, July 25, 2003 at 1 p.m. at St. Isabella's Church, 1 Trinity Way, Terra Linda, San Rafael. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the church on Friday. Interment Monday, July 28, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, Memorial contributions preferred to Whistlestop Wheels. Ralph B. Mannella
Ralph passed away peacefully at his home in San Rafael surrounded by his family at age 86. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 20, 1917. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Frances Mannella, daughter MaryAnn Herron (Albert) of Novato, sons Joseph R. Mannella (Linda) of Novato, William R. Mannella (Rebecca) of American Canyon and Anthony J. Mannella (Helen) of Petaluma. Ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive him. Ralph was a Veteran of WWII and served as an Army Ranger in the South Pacific. He received the Bronze Star, Presidential Citation, Asiatic Campaign and the Purple Heart. At the end of the war he marriage and relocated to San Anselmo where he resided for 54 years. He was in the Banking Industry until his retirement in 1977. He was a member of American Legion Post #179, Disabled American Veterans and the 40 & 8. He was also a member of several other community organizations. He also served as a Marin County Deputy Sheriff reserve for many years. Rosary to be held on Thursday, July 24, at 7:00 p.m., Chapel of the Hills in San Anselmo. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 25th, 10:00 a.m. at Saint Rita's Church in Fairfax. The family requests that donations be sent to Hospice of Marin. Donna Marie Marengo
Age 54 of Tiburon passed away July 11, 2003. Donna is preceded in death by her beloved adoptive parents, Rudolph and Lucille Marengo and loving mother, Helen Purin Estey. Her father Harold W. Estey and brother James Harold Estey survive her. Donna was born and raised in Stockton, CA. Though over the last 30 years she has resided in San Francisco, Sausalito and lastly Tiburon. For the last four years, she worked as an Administrative Assistant at California Land Title in Marin. Prayer Services will be held on July 30, 2003 at 6:00 p.m. at St. Sebastian Church, 373 Bon Air Road, Greenbrae. Louisa Dorsey Cagwin
Age 71, of Mill Valley, passed away July 15, 2003. Louisa Cagwin was born November 21, 1931, in San Rafael. She graduated from Tamalpais High School in 1950, attended Cottey College in Missouri and the University of California at Berkeley. Classical music was her great love. She was quite an authority on Beethoven's life and works. From 1957 to 1961 she lived in Vienna where she audited master classes in music at the University and did music research for a New York City attorney. For more than 25 years she worked at (and retired from) the University of California Medical Center at San Francisco. Louisa was still employed there part time at the time of her death. She had been in charge of the wine library under Dr. Salvatore Lucia and was administrative assistant for neurosurgeons Dr. Edwin B. Boldrey and Dr. Charles B. Wilson. She became passionately involved in the activities of the Ira F. Brilliant Center for Beethoven Studies at San Jose University. For many years she wrote the program notes for concerts of the Mill Valley Chamber Music Society which is over 25 years old. Louisa dearly loved Mill Valley where she lived most of her life. Louisa will be greatly missed by her surviving family; brother, George Cagwin, sisters Cindy Barbera and Barbara Phillips, nieces, Wendy Cagwin and Tania Kennedy, nephew, Justin Cagwin, and companion Hal Cox. There will be a celebration of Louisa's life at the Outdoor Art Club, 1 West Blithedale Ave., Mill Valley at 2:00 p.m. August 1st. In lieu of flowers, friends may make contributions for the Ira F. Brilliant Center for Beethoven, One Washington Square, San Jose, CA 95192.
