Constance Wilson Nackord
Died June 8, 2003 in Novato at the age of 75. Constance was born February 24, 1928 in San Salvador, El Salvador to Ed and Margo Wilson. She was a long time resident of San Francisco. Constance was an avid golfer, a lover of bridge, politics, and gourmet cooking. She was a long time volunteer for Oakland Children's Hospital Foundation. She was a homemaker and the deeply beloved mother of five. She is survived by her children: sons Ernest III, Dwight (Pat), Stephen, Paul and daughter Cecelia Nackord; grandchildren: Michael, Kristie, Kimberly, D.J. and Patrick Nackord; great-grandchild Mikayla; and siblings Edward Wilson, Sylvia (Wilson) Sol and Frank Wilson. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday July 2, 2003 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church, 1806 Novato Blvd., Novato. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Park, 650 Bugeia Lane, Novato. Memorial Contributions may be made to Oakland Children's Hospital Foundation, 747 52nd Street, Oakland, CA 94609. Africa Marinelli Nalducci
San Rafael Resident
Africa Marinelli Nalducci, long time resident of San Rafael, died June 28, 2003. She was 93. Mrs. Nalducci was born in Onano, Italy and lived in Bayonne, NJ until she moved to San Francisco in 1948. Mrs. Nalducci worked for the San Francisco Unified School District for 20 years. Mrs. Nalducci led a life of service to others not only within her own family but was active in the Church, Schools and Community. She had a special interest in children and their needs serving as a Girl Scout leader in San Francisco, working in the Head Start Program and active in the PTA. Proud of her Italian Heritage, she was a life long member of the Italian Catholic Federation in San Francisco and Larkspur, California. She pursued her love of music as a violinist and was a long time subscriber of the San Francisco Opera. She was predeceased by her dear husband Renato L. Nalducci, and her three sisters, Alster Hill, Oceania Immordino and Trusiana Klung. She is survived by her four children Valerie Klung Bastiaans, Laura C. Pohle, Natalie N. Sandell, and Robert L. Nalducci, thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. A Viewing and a Rosary will be said on Tuesday, July 1, 2003 at 7:00 PM at Keaton's Mortuary in San Rafael, 1022 E Street at 5th Street. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Mission San Rafael, in San Rafael, CA at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 2, 2003. A Burial will be held at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma. Althea Norman
Althea Wright Norman passed from this life on June 25th, 2003 in San Rafael, CA. Born in New York City July 4, 1909, she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Jacquelyn and David Feldstein of Sacramento, CA; granddaughters Lisa Feldstein of San Francisco, CA and Michere Schott of Sacramento, CA; grandsons-in-law Max Drukman and Timothy Schott; great-granddaughters Sophie Drukman-Feldstein and Jordan Schott, and many beloved friends and extended family. A Celebration of Her Life will be held on Friday, August 1, 2003, 3:00 p.m., at the Maria B. Freitas Senior Community, 455 Freitas Parkway, San Rafael, CA. Doris Roni
Passed away in Sacramento, June 27, 2003. Loving wife of the late Roy Roni, loved mother of Betty Buchanan of Sacramento, Clay Roni of Los Angeles, CA, and Mike Roni of Fairfield, CA; grandmother of seven and great-grandmother of six. She was a former resident of Tiburon for 35 years and for the past six years, she was a resident of Sacramento. Max Stadnik
It is with great love and sadness that the family of Max Stadnik announce his passing on June 22, 2003. Max was born November 30, 1921 in the western Ukraine. Forced to leave his home and family as a teenager at the onset of World War II, Max spent many years in the Austrian countryside. After the war, Max moved to England where he worked as an immigrant laborer, met his first wife and had two of his three sons. Max came to the United States with his wife and infant sons on the Queen Mary in 1955. He settled in Marin County and began working as an auto mechanic. In 1961 he opened his own automotive repair shop, "Max's Garage", in Santa Venetia, where he worked for thirty years. Max was passionate about carpentry and construction. He built his own house and seemed to always have a new building project under way. At the age of 80 he could still be found at the top of a ladder with a hammer and a saw. He also enjoyed tending to his fruit trees, roses, and honey bee hives. Max will be greatly missed by his wife of forty years, Emmy, his three sons, Paulo, Derek and Roger, and his two grandsons, Matthew and Max. A private family service was held at the Mt. Tamalpais Cemetery in San Rafael. Thanks and appreciation to the staff at Kaiser Hospital, Terra Linda and the staff at Fifth Avenue Healthcare Center for the excellent care Max received.

Sonia M. Bermingham
Passed away in Petaluma, August 28, 2003. Mother of Bryan (Debbie) Bermingham of Petaluma and Adrienne Bermingham of Mill Valley. A native of San Rafael, age 78 years. Sonia was well known throughout Marin and Sonoma counties through the Antique business, particularly known for "Junktique" antique store. She was a firm believer in the voting process and had worked at all of the elections. She always believed in defending our constitutional rights from abroad or domestic enemies. Michael K. Richardson
Of San Rafael passed away on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at the age of 61. He was born in Seattle, WN, grew into adulthood in St. Paul, MN and moved to the Bay Area after serving in the Marine Corps. He graduated from the Shaeffer School of Design and established and ran several businesses. Michael suffered an aneurysm in his early thirties. His outlook on life remained incredibly positive and hopeful in spite of the increasing physical limitations that he experienced. Michael was upbeat, wore a smile and had something pleasant to say to everyone he encountered. He will be remembered for his compassion and concern for the well being of others. He served on the board of the MCIL and participated in several community action groups. Survived by his mother Lucille Richardson; brother and his wife, Harold and Connie Richardson; sister, Joann Mannion; sons, Michael II, Anthony and Guy; niece and her husband, Karen and Shah; and grandchildren Shahn, Michael III, Marlena and Madelyn. A Memorial Service will be held at the Tiburon Baptist Church, 445 Greenwood Beach Rd., Tiburon on Saturday, September 6, at 3 PM.

Wendel Lynn Smith
January 23, 1952 - August 22, 2003. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, Sept. 7th, 2003, 7:00 PM at the Presbyterian Church, 630 Del Ganado Rd, Terra Linda. Survived by daughter Jennifer Bogan, brothers and sisters; Hansel, Candy, Cindy, Terry, Kathy, Tina, and John.

Mary Mercedes Allerton
With great sadness our beautiful mother Mary Mercedes Allerton, widow of Leo Allerton; cherished mother of Robert J. Allerton of San Francisco, CA, daughter and son-in-law Marianne and George Lino of Carmel Valley, CA passed away peacefully in Pacific Grove on August 25, 2003. Beloved grandmother of Kaitlin Allerton of San Francisco, CA; Eileen and Mark Lewis of Burlingame, CA; James and Katharine Lino of Inverness, CA; Andrew and Heather Lino of Carmel Valley, CA. Adored great-grandmother of Jeffrey, Monica, Victoria, and Gabrielle Lewis of Burlingame, CA; Alexis, Sam and Andrew Lino of Inverness, CA; Sarah, Bryon John and Grace Lino of Carmel Valley, CA. Mary Mercedes was born in Victoria, B.C. She resided in San Rafael, CA for the past 40 years and was a past member of the YLI of Seattle, WA, St. Rafael's Parish, St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Marin Apt. Managers Assoc. She will be remembered for her wonderful Irish humor, intelligence and devotion to her family...She will be forever missed. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Carmel Valley on August 30, 2003. In lieu of flowers her family suggests contributions to St. Vincent de Paul, 820 B St. San Rafael, CA 94901.

Dorothy May Canet
Of Mill Valley passed away August 25, 2003. Her husband Joseph Canet preceded her in death. Her daughter and son-in-law Ellen and David Boring of Mill Valley survive her. Maggie, Koa and Spike also survive her. A native of Washington, age 91 years old. Dorothy was a resident of Mill Valley for 86 years and a retired Home Economist. Irene P. Harmon
Made her peaceful transition at home at age 75 on August 16, 2003. Her survivors include her devoted husband of 50 years, Lt. Col. Arthur C. Harmon, USAF Ret.; stepmother Maggietta N. Prince; brother Arthur W. Prince; children Brett Harmon, Kim Harmon, Claire Harmon-Hones, and Bruce Harmon; grandchildren Ayo Khensu-Ra and Rashida Harmon; and niece Alison Mitchell and nephew Michael Cartwright, who turned to her as a surrogate for their late mother, her sister Margaret Cartwright. Irene will be missed by a large extended family, numerous close friends and colleagues, and many others whose lives she touched. A native Californian, she graduated from UC Berkeley and completed her training as an occupational therapist at USC. She practiced in Marin County, most recently with Senior Access. Throughout her life she pursued volunteer activities and joined social and community groups such as Social Heritage Group, Inc. and Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. A lifelong music lover, she sang with the choir of the United Methodist Church in Novato. Like the melody of a beautiful song, Irene will be forever remembered by those who loved her. A celebration of her life will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, September 13 at Unity in Marin, 600 Palm Drive, Hamilton Center, Novato. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Alzheimer's Association, American Cancer Society, or March of Dimes.

Laura Jean Looper
Passed away August 23, 2003, at home after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was 79. Wife of Paul Looper, she is survived by her sons; Warren and Kyle, her grandchildren Paul and Belinda Looper, and her brothers Bill and Howard McClure. Laura Jean was born in Bakersfield, CA to Winifred and Eugene McClure, September 19, 1923. She graduated from the Registered Nursing Program at the University of San Francisco. She worked at several Bay Area hospitals eventually becoming head surgical nurse at Highland Hospital, Oakland. Laura Jean met Paul Looper at the end of World War II, they marriage and became long time Bay Area residents. Laura Jean continued her education achieving Master's Degrees in Nursing and Psychology and a PhD in Education. She helped established the RN and LVN Nursing Programs at the College of Marin in Kentfield and remained there as a teacher for 30 years, retiring in 1994. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of San Rafael and a diligent worker/supporter of the American Heart Association. Jana Arnold Barto
Died July 26, 2003 in Los Angeles of cancer. She is survived by her husband Charles Hoblitzelle of Los Angeles, her parents Carolyn and Philip Barto of Santa Rosa, her brother and sister-in-law Eric and Diane Barto of Cloverdale, her brother and sister-in-law Peter and Lisa Barto of San Anselmo, and their children Madison and Erin Barto. Jana was born February 25, 1955 in San Rafael. She was a graduate of San Rafael High School and the University of California, Berkeley. Jana was a competitive rower at Cal, and stroked the varsity women's crew to many victories. After college, she started the girls' rowing program at the Marin Rowing Association. She later launched the adult women's rowing program there coaching and then rowing with them to win the 1988 Canadian Open Masters Championship Eight, among other victories. Jana moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in writing, and worked for Warner Brothers as an executive assistant on several TV programs. She wrote three produced episodes of Suddenly Susan. Jana was the bond that held together her extended family and friends, and her kindness, generosity and loving spirit will long be remembered. Friends are invited to gather with her family from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, August 30th at Peter and Lisa Barto's home: 69 Oak Knoll Avenue, San Anselmo. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Audubon Canyon Ranch (www.egret.org), Cal Women's Crew (www.calcrew.org) or the Marin Rowing Association (www.marinrowing.org).

Helen Dallara
AKA: Harney, Mom, Grandma, Sweetie, GGMA and Grandmother. Died peacefully on August 26, 2003 at Windchimes Alzheimers facility in Kentfield. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years Louis Raymond Dallara in 1986. She is survived and will be greatly missed by her three children, Dorothy Reed, Raymond Dallara, his wife Beaudine, and Pauline Osborne and her husband James. In addition, she leaves 12 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. Helen was born in Morenci, AZ on October 2, 1908. She moved to Southern California during her school years. In 1928 she moved to San Rafael when she began working at the telephone company. Helen met Lou at the Redwood Bowl in Larkspur on a blind date. They marriage in 1929 and shortly after moved to Fairfax and raised their three children. Helen had a great sense of humor and loved sewing, china painting, crocheting, knotting, gardening, cooking, singing, music, and chocolate especially Hershey kisses. But most of all she loved her children and grandchildren. There will be a Memorial Mass September 2, 2003 at 11:00 am at Saint Rita's Church 100 Marinda Drive, Fairfax, CA, followed by a celebration of life in the church hall.
