Esther grew up in the midst of orange groves where the air was perfumed by orange blossoms each year. Esther was the youngest of three sisters. The other two, Hattie and Alice, passed on recently. She was employed for many years as a teacher at Miller Creek Middle School in Marin County. Her early ambition had come to fruition. She was very competent, well-liked member of the teaching staff. Her skills at teaching and handling of kids' problems were recognized by everyone who came in contact with her.
