John F. Dudge, M.D.
A memorial service for John F. Dudge, M.D. will be held on at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 22, at Morrison’s Funeral Chapel, 990 Vintage Way, in St. Helena, who died on Feb. 18.
Milo V. Anderson
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Feb. 23, at Pacific Union College Church for longtime Napa County resident Milo Vernette Anderson, who died Feb. 12 in Napa. He was 77.
Mr. Anderson, a native of Wolsey, S.D., was reared and educated in Nebraska, and was a professor of physics at Pacific Union College before his retirement several years ago.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie, of Napa; sons, Terry Anderson of Bernardsville, N.J., and Arthur Anderson of Success, Mo.; a daughter, Karen Anderson, of San Diego; and four grandchildren.

Freda A. Craver
A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 24, at 3:30 p.m. at the Pacific union College Seventh-day Adventist youth chapel in Angwin for Freda Angelina Craver who died in St. Helena Feb. 18. She was 91.
Mrs. Craver, in her youth a Raisin Day princess for Fresno County, became seriously ill after her second year of high school and didn’t return to school until four years later. Following her high school graduation in 1932 she attended Pacific union College and worked for three years in the office of the Central California Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. She marriage her teacher-husband, Jack Carver, in 1937. The couple moved to Angwin and in 1941, built a home on Cold Springs Road.
In addition to her husband of 65 years, Mrs. Carver is survived by nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise and Vesta, and a brother, Cleo.

LaZora N. Lofton
Funeral services were held Feb. 16 for LaZora Norma Lofton, who died Feb. 13 in St. Helena. She was 86.
Mrs. Lofton, the daughter of Leslie and Ethel Stallard, marriage Roy Lofton in 1962. While her husband served in the Navy, she worked for a number of years in the PX in Hawaii. Later, the couple moved to San Diego where she was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She was also a volunteer with the American Red Cross, a homemaker and a dressmaker.
The Loftons moved two years ago from Ridgecrest to St. Helena. In addition to her husband, Roy, of St. Helena, she is survived by her children, Jim Munson of Auburn; William Waltz of Longmont, Colo., Kathleen Allen of Priest River, Idaho, and Darlene Laughlin of Ridgecrest, Calif.; two sisters, Theda Vigneri of Fort Myers, Fla.; and Beverly Rodgers of St. Helena; and her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by two sons, Robert and David Munson and a sister, Masone Boland.

Gerda Elsie Schoen
A private graveside service will be held at St. Helena Cemetery Friday, Feb. 22, for Gerda Elsie Schoen, who died Feb. 18 at St. Helena Hospital. She was 88.
Mrs. Schoen, a native of Riga in Northern Europe, and her husband of 65 years, Valentin Schoen, served in a variety of Adventist posts in seven different countries. Their son, Arvo, traveled with them for many years.
Concha Balderrama
Services were held for Concha Balderrama who died Feb. 12, at a local nursing home. She was 86 years old.
Mrs. Balderrama was born in Mexico to Simon and Jesus Pacheco. She moved from the Los Angeles area in 1973 and worked at St. Helena Hospital for over 10 years. She is survived by her children, Avril Lawrence of Healdsburg; Justino Balderrama of Olympia, Wash., and Richard Balderrama of Simi Valley; a brother, Adolfo Pacheco; a sister, Senovia Pacheco, of Los Angeles;and four grandchildren. Carrie May Conard
Private family services will be held in Santa Rosa Memorial Park for Carrie May Conard, who died Feb. 16, at St. Helena Hospital with her son at her side. She was 84.
Spurred by their love of the outdoors, Mrs. Conrad and her husband, Walter, moved to Middletown after thier retirement. For 30 years she had worked as a teller for Wells Fargo Bank in Marin County.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Walter; a son, Richard, of Santa Rosa; a brother, Paul Sampson, of Pocatello, Idaho and a sister, Mary Gibson, of Baltimore, Md. Also surviving are four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Conard was predeceased by a son, David. Arrangements by Morrison Funeral Chapel.
James Mercier
James Mercier, a longtime employee of Christian Brothers Winery, died Feb.10 in St. Helena, two days short of his 67th birthday.
A native of St. Helena, he lived most of his life in the Napa Valley. He met and marriage Judy Williams in 1968 and was widowed in 1994.
Mr. Mercier is survived by a niece, Peggy Saviez, and a nephew Paul Saviez, of Calistoga; a niece, Jay Osmundsen, of Santa Rosa, and their extended families; longtime friends Tamra and Kesean Bumgardner.
At Mr. Mercier’s request, no formal funeral services will be held. Private interment will be at St. Helena Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity.
Eileen Hope Brereton
A funeral Mass will be held Friday, Feb. 23, at 11 a.m. at St. Helena Catholic Church for Eileen Hope Brereton who died Feb. 18 at Queen of the Valley hospital. She was 88.
Miss Brereton was a native of Bremerton, Wash. Her family moved to Portola Valley and later to Dinuba. She attended Fresno State University and graduated from UC-Berkeley. In addition to teaching Spanish and serving as a counselor in several California high schools, she was a teacher at Monterey High School, and later, at Seaside High School. During World War II she worked in a munitions factory. It was during the war that her fiance was killed while stationed in England.
Miss Brereton was an avid reader and active for many years in the Monterey Embroiderers Guild, as well as a volunteer at Monterey Community Hospital. She is survived by a brother, Hugh Brereton, of St. Helena; nieces and nephews, Hugh and his wife, Christine, of Modesto, Nicholas and his wife, Barbara, of Orinda; nieces Katherine Brereton and Ann Brereton; and 11 great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Rose.

Kingsley H. Minifie
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Feb. 24, at 3 p.m. at the St. Helena Seventh-day Adventist Church for Kingsley Harry Minifie. Mr. Minifie, a head elder with the St. Helena Seventh-day Adventist Church for three years in the late 1970s, died Feb. 19 at St. Helena Hospital. He was 88.
Mr. Minifie was born June 3, 1912 in Johannesburg, South Africa, to Harry and Ada Matilda Minifie. He was 9 years old when his family moved to the United States and settled in Castro Valley. He graduated from Golden Gate Academy in Berkeley in 1931 and from Pacific Union College in 1937 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in religion.
He and Ferne Smith were marriage in 1935. They later lived in Angel’s Camp, San Andreas, and Jackson, where he assisted in establishing and pastoring Seventh-day Adventist churches. At the beginning of World War II, the Minifies went to East Africa where Elder Minifie was in charge of 32 schools and church groups. The couple returned to the United States in 1945, and Mr. Minifie pastored in the Los Angeles area. He retired in 1977, and he and his wife moved to St. Helena a year later. Here, he served as head elder of the St. Helena Seventh-day Adventist Church, and then as minister of pastoral care at the Pacific Union College Church from 1982-1990.
In addition to his wife, Ferne, of St. Helena, he is survived by his son, Dwayne, of St. Helena; three daughters, Cheryl Stiles and Doreen Murphy of St. Helena, and Donna Jean Bailey of North Carolina; and one sister, Elaine Jackson of San Jose; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. John Del Dotto
Memorial services will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Calistoga for Del Dotto Vineyards co-founder John Del Dotto, who died Feb. 15 in San Leandro. He was 80.
Mr. Del Dotto was a World War II naval veteran, who played semi-pro baseball for the Boise Pirates and Modesto Reds, served as police chief in Parma, Idaho, and deputy sheriff in Merced County, worked for Morrison & Knudsen at San Lewis Dam and at Standard material before his retirement. He was a member of the Teamsters 386 division.
Mr. Del Dotto is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dolores; two sons, Casey and David; two daughters Janet and Nancy; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Frank Gaskin
Services were held at Duggan’s Serra Mortuary Feb. 4 for Frank Gaskin, who died Jan. 30 of natural causes. He was 47.
Mr. Gaskin is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; his children, Chuck, Frank, Tim, Troy and Starlene; and grandchildren, Micah, Joshua, Francisco and Alyssa.

Dwain Lamar Rice
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 14, at the California Veterans Home Memorial Chapel in Yountville for Dwain Lamar Rice, who died at Holderman Hospital Feb. 23. He was 89.
Mr. Rice, a native of Texas, worked on his family’s farm before joining the Air Force and training as an airplane mechanic. After 20 years in the military he retired to work at Vacaville High School and later, at the vacaville Nursery. He is survived by his wife, Vincentina Rice; a son, Phil Rice, a daughter, Leanora Rice; a brother, Troy Rice; two sisters, Bernice Murphy and Charlene Black; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
