OCEANSIDE - Richard Eugene Brantley, 82, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000.
Born March 20, 1918, in South Dakota, he was a resident of Oceanside. He was retired from the civil service. He had been in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a Seventh Day Adventist.
Mr. Brantley was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Jane Brantley, in 1967. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Dora Brantley of Oceanside; three sons; two daughters; three sisters; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
No services are planned. Burial will be at Riverside National Cemetery.

Mildred Short, 92
ESCONDIDO - Mildred A. Short, 92, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2000, in San Bernadino.
Born May 4, 1908, in Bedford, Ind., she lived in Escondido for 29 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Escondido Country Club, Escondido and San Marcos bridge clubs, San Marcos and Escondido Joslyn senior centers and the First Congregational Church of Escondido.
Mrs. Short is survived by her nephew, Kevin Beiriger of San Diego; nieces Deanna Simons of Apple Valley and Martha Nedom of Casa Grande, Ariz.; and four great-nephews.

Lois Woods, 75
ENCINITAS - Lois Woods, 75, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000.
Born Aug. 17, 1925, in Monrovia, she was a resident of Encinitas for 35 years.
Mrs. Woods is survived by her husband of 42 years, Max Woods of Encinitas; daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Loren Ritter of Carlsbad; sister Glorinda Grey of Westminster sister and brother-in-law Libby and Dan Carson of Downey and grandchildren Loren, Jr. and Ashlee Ritter.
A memorial is scheduled for noon today, Dec. 21, at Eternal Hills Mortuary with the Rev. Percy Kallevig officiating. A private cremation is planned.

Lee Andersen, 72
OCEANSIDE - Lee L. Andersen, 72, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, of cancer.
Born Dec. 16, 1928, in Chicago, she was a resident of Oceanside for nine years. She retired from the Chicago school system on Dec. 15, 1985.
Mrs. Andersen is survived by her husband of 53 years, Herbert J. Andersen of Oceanside; brother William Knudsen of Denver, Colo.; and sister-in-law Helen Grimes of San Diego.
No services are planned.

ESCONDIDO - Adela Gomez, 72, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at her residence.
Born Sept. 21, 1928, in Welby, Colo. she was a resident of Escondido for three years. She was a secretary for Pacific Greyhound for 30 years.
Ms. Gomez is survived by her sisters Rachael of Escondido and Mary Rendon of Reno, Nev.; nieces Tammy Woodall of Escondido and Antonette Giovanetti of Oakland.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, at Casa Escondida, 715 N. Broadway. A private inurnment is planned at Evergreen Cemetery in Oakland.

Alice Shawl, 87
RAMONA - Alice L. Shawl, 87, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at Villa Monte Vista Convalescent Hospital in Poway.
Born Sept. 26, 1913, in Pitcairn, Pa., she was a resident of Ramona for 22 years. She had worked at G.C. Murphy 5 & 10 cent store for 30 years; she was an active member in the West Newton Baptist Church singing in the choir; after moving to Ramona she was an active member of the Neighborhood Baptist Church.
Mrs. Shawl is survived by her husband of 63 years, Charles F. Shawl and son Charles W. Shawl of Poway.
A memorial service is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at the Neighborhood Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Ash officiating. Burial will take place at Nuevo Memory Gardens next week.

ESCONDIDO - Vivienne Mabel Snow, 90, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000.
Born Feb. 1, 1910, in Santa Ana, she was a resident of Escondido for 20 years. She had been a teacher for the Westminster School District for 20 years.
Mrs. Snow was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Snow in March. She is survived by son and daughters-in-law John and Nancy Snow and Susie Snow all of Escondido; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A graveside services is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, at Fairhaven Memorial Park, 1702 Fairhaven Ave., Santa Ana.

CARLSBAD - Janis Renee Lee, 63, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at her home.
Born Sept. 9, 1937, in Missouri, she was a resident of Carlsbad for 15 years. She was a certified nursing assistant.
Mrs. Lee is survived by sons Douglas Lankard of Oceanside and Bart Lankard of San Diego; daughters and son-in-law Debbrah Horn of Oceanside and Barbie and Mark Gentile of San Juan Capistrano; brothers and sisters-in-law James and Marjean Swain of Bellevue, Wash. and Robert and Paula Swain of Kent, Wash.; sister and brother-in-law Vicki and Larry Mendonza of Cumming, Ga.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Frieda Murray, 84
OCEANSIDE - Frieda Murray, 84, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at her home.
Born March 8, 1916, in Woodside, Utah, she was a resident of Oceanside for 10 years. She was a secretary for Utah Power and Light; she was a life member of Order of the Eastern Star, served on the school board in Fontana for eight years, was active in many philanthropic and community service organizations.
Mrs. Murray was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and two brothers. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Robert E. Murray of Oceanside; son and daughter-in-law Robert F. and Joan Murray of Oceanside; daughters and sons-in-law Bettie and Walter Steinberg of Huntington, N.Y., Carol Barrett and Barry Preston of Costa Mesa, Barbara and Donald Alkinson of Fontana and Vita and Leonard Interranti of Albany, N.Y.; sisters and brothers-in-law Ruth Bateman of Carlsbad, Helen and Leo Seidner of Carlsbad and Maxine Andron of Oceanside; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Louise Liddle, 79
RANCHO BERNARDO - Louise Elizabeth Liddle, 79, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at Sunbridge of Mt. Carmel in Rancho Bernardo.
Born Feb. 15, 1921, in Dewey, Olka., she was a resident of Rancho Bernardo for 26 years. She was a self-employed music-piano instructor since she was a teenager in Kansas, moving to San Diego in 1974 she continued to teach. During WW II she was a fuselage electrician on the B-29 at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, Kan.
Ms. Liddle is survived by her son, William V. Reeves of Springdale, Ark.; grandchildren Rodney L. and Lloyd V. Reeves and great-grandchildren Cameron P. and McKenzie T. Reeves.
Private family services are planned with a private cremation at Greenwood Memorial Park in San Diego.

ESCONDIDO - Edsel Morgan, 75, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000.
Born Nov. 23, 1925, in Wingo, Ky., he was a resident of Escondido for 42 years. He was a retired welder from Expantion Joint Systems. He was in the U.S. Navy during WW II and was a member of the Moose lodge.
Mr. Morgan was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Deanna Marie Morgan. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ruthie Morgan of Escondido; sons and daughters-in-law Richard and Terri Morgan of Valley Center, Kenneth and Diane Morgan of Escondidio and Dennis and Debbie Morgan of Escondido; brother Charles Morgan of Clinton, Ky.; sister Joyce Smith of Newbern, Tenn.; grandchildren Pam, Wesley, Matthew, David and Mark Morgan; step-grandchildren Dustin and Courtney Hahn; great-grandchildren Brook and Lindsay Morgan; step-great-grandchild Dakota Morgan; three aunts; four nephews and two nieces.
Viewing is scheduled from 4 to 8 tonight, Dec. 21, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 22, at Alhieser-Comer Mortuary with the Rev. Richard Williams officiating. interment will follow at Oakhill Memorial Park.

ARCADIA - Corinne Marie Howlett, 81, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2000.
Born April 10, 1919, in St. Louis, she enjoyed tennis and gardening.
Mrs. Howlett was preceded in death by her husband, Robert P. Howlett. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Bob and Margo Howlett and Jim and Linda Howlett; grandchildren Lisa, Mark, Kristi, Scott and Jenny and great-grandchildren Meghan, Micah, Morgan and Nicole.
A Mass will be celebrated at 8:15 a.m. today at Holy Angels Church in Arcadia. interment will be today at noon at the San Marcos North County Cemetery.

FALLBROOK - Christy Eileen Weeks, 42, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000.
Born April 25, 1958, in Loma Linda, she was a resident of Fallbrook for 21 years. She was a homemaker, former member of the Fist Baptist Church of Upland; coached and played for Fallbrook Women's Soccer League.
Mrs. Weeks is survived by her husband of 23 years, Dennis L. Weeks of Fallbrook; mother Laudoska Humble of Ontario; father William Humble of Crossville, Tenn.; son Scott Weeks of Fallbrook; daughter Jennifer Weeks of Fallbrook; brother Michael Humble of Ontario; sisters Linda Bentley of Lake Elsinore and Leslie Humble of Cedar Lake, Ind.

Born March 12, 1925, she was a Realtor, retiring in 1988.
Mrs. Oswald was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Satchell in 1999. She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Jack (Ozzie) Oswald of Oceanside; sons Ron Goodin of Oceanside and daughter and son-in-law Glenda and Jack McMillian of Eureka.
There will be a private cremation with a scattering at sea.

ESCONDIDO - Harriet Emily Sims, 88, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000.
Born Jan. 26, 1912, in Minneapolis, she was a resident of Escondido for five years. She was a homemaker for 64 years and was a volunteer at the school library.
Mrs. Sims was preceded in death by Mayland M. Sims Oct. 24, 2000 and Timothy Sims in 1987. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law William and Kristine Sims of Encinitas; grandchildren Michael Sims of El Cajon and Kathryn Smith of Escondido and great-grandchild Ezra Sims of El Cajon.
