SUN CITY - Agnes Mary Malfatti 81, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at Kaiser Hospital in Riverside.
Born Jan. 29, 1919, in Chicago, she lived in Sun City for 23 years. She was a homemaker for 55 years. She enjoyed her cats and gardening, bingo, shopping and going to Las Vegas and Laughlin. She was a member of St. Vincent's Catholic Church, including the Altar Society.
Mrs. Malfatti is survived by her son, Michael Malfatti of Vancouver, Wash.; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, at Evans-Brown Sun City Mortuary. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, at St. Vincent's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Perris Valley Cemetery.

Orval Sparks, 73
SUN CITY - Orval Daniel Sparks, 73, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at Sunbridge Rehabilitation Center in Pomona.
Born July 15, 1927, in Fort Sumner, N.M., he lived in Sun City for 16 years. He was a self-employed barber in Sun City for 50 years and served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge, a charter member of both the Sun City Rotary Club and the Quail Valley Moose Lodge. He enjoyed the outdoors, family and friends and laughing and singing.
Mr. Sparks is survived by his wife, Shelby Sparks of Sun City; daughter Brenda Evans of Edgewood, N.M.; sons Randy Shekels of Corona and Dan Sparks of Yuba City; daughters Donna Sparks of Hemet and Dorinda Stephan of Tucson, Ariz.; sister Idella Davis of Roswell, N.M.; brothers Avrit Sparks of Ignacio, Colo., Lee Sparks of Saginaw, Mo., and Rexal Sparks of Cuerro, N.M.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at Miller-Jones Mortuary Inc. A funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at the mortuary, with the Rev. Robert G. Dalrymple officiating. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Riverside National Cemetery.

Katherine Sizelove, 86
ESCONDIDO - Katherine Sizelove, 86, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at Palomar Medical Center.
Born Sept. 10, 1914, in Oakland, she lived in Escondido for 18 1/2 years. She worked for the Baptist Home Assn. before retiring in 1982 and was a member of Hidden Valley Chapel in Escondido.
Mrs. Sizelove was preceded in death by her husband, Jess Sizelove, on Feb. 12, 1993. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Cliff and Mary Sizelove of Angels Camp; daughter and son-in-law Karen and Bob Taylor of Escondido; grandchildren Janice Aday, Barbara Aday-Garcia, Connie Morris, Ron Aday, Carl Sizelove and Pam McNeill; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, at Hidden Valley Chapel in Escondido.

ESCONDIDO - Laura Katherine Baur, 90, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at Escondido Care Center.
Born Jan. 27, 1910, in Ann Arbor, Mich., she lived in Escondido for 15 years. She was an engineering special assistant for Pacific Department before retiring and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Escondido.
Ms. Baur is survived by her nieces, Dolores P. Melvin and Carol Brooks, both of Prescott, Ariz.; and nephew Robert Baur of Michigan.
A graveside service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at Oak Hill Memorial Park, with the Rev. Ralph Wilson officiating. Burial will follow.

VENTURA - Tess Marie Jackson, 80, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, in Ventura.
Born Oct. 23, 1920, in Iona, Idaho, she lived in Ventura for 10 years and had lived in Fallbrook for 35 years. She was a homemaker for more than 60 years and a past member of the Fallbrook Woman's Club, past volunteer at the Fallbrook District Hospital and past member of the Fallbrook Golf Club. She enjoyed golfing.
Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew C. Jackson, in 1991. She is survived by her son, Craig L. Jackson of Fallbrook; sister Maxine Lonsdale of Ventura; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at Fallbrook Masonic Cemetery, with the Rev. David Plank officiating. Interment will follow.

FALLBROOK - Aaron Paul Augspurger, 88, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at his home.
Born Oct. 18, 1912, in Tiskilwa, Ill., he lived in Fallbrook for 20 years. He was an accountant for Mobil Oil Corp. for 40 years and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Fallbrook Presbyterian Church and past president of Petroleum Accounts Society. He enjoyed golfing.
Mr. Augspurger is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary F. Augspurger of Fallbrook; son Michael P. Augspurger of Anaheim; daughters Diana J. Augspurger of Harvard, Mass., and Christina M. Augspurger of Anaheim; and sisters Zola Springer of Aurora, Neb., and Zelda Rowe of San Diego.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at Fallbrook Presbyterian Church. A private cremation is planned, with Interment to take place at Fallbrook Masonic Cemetery.

FALLBROOK - Paul Jeremiah Brennan, 68, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, of liver disease, at Fallbrook Hospital.
Born Aug. 10, 1932, in Pembroke, Mass., he lived in Fallbrook for one year. He worked for Sister of Carondolet Church.
Mr. Brennan is survived by his wife, Mary J. Brennan of Fallbrook; son P. Michael Brennan of Sacramento; stepsons John Doolittle of Austin, Texas, Robert Doolittle of La Jolla, Patrick Doolittle of San Francisco and David Doolittle of Point Loma; and daughters Mary Elizabeth Wilson of Los Angeles, Eileen Mayfield of Thousand Oaks and Jean Brennan of Sacramento.

ESCONDIDO - Stephen Robert Franko, 76, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001.
Born May 4, 1924, in Cleveland, he lived in Escondido for 41 years. He was a teacher at Grant Middle School for 27 years and coached high school students and youth leagues in a variety of sports. He enjoyed gardening, sports, having former students stop him on the street to tell him how much they appreciated him, and everything "Hawaii."
Mr. Franko is survived by his wife of 51 years, Juanita Franko of Escondido; sons and daughter-in-law Christopher Franko and John and Lisa Franko, all of Escondido; daughters and sons-in-law Susan and Craig Beam of San Diego, Kathryn and David Nead of Gresham, Ore., and Therese and John Crawford of Temecula; sister Rosemarie Kisasonak of Pittsburgh; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at St. Timothy Catholic Church in Escondido, with the Rev. Michael Gallagher officiating. A private cremation is planned.

SAN MARCOS - Paul C. Martin, 75, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at his home.
Born Oct. 3, 1925, in Appercian, Okla., he lived in San Marcos for two years. He was a tool and die maker for Maxwell Labs for 40 years and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He spent more than 30 years doing God's work in Mexico.
Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Norma M. Martin of San Marcos; sons David R. Martin of Chula Vista, Steven R. Martin of Johannesburg, South Africa, and Paul Lang of San Jose; brothers James W. Martin of Gilroy, Lloyd Martin of San Martin, John M. ESCONDIDO - Palmira "Polly" Brodie, 60, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001.
Born July 31, 1940, in New York, she lived in Escondido. She was a special education instruction aide before retiring in 1991. She was a team mother with the Chula Vista National Little League and the Miss Softball America and worked with the youth at Bonita Wesleyan Church.
Mrs. Brodie is survived by her husband, Edward R. Brodie; sons Mike Brodie, John Brodie and Marc Brodie; daughter Lori Sperry; and grandchildren Joshua Brodie Way, Amanda Sperry, Kate Sperry, Daniel Brodie, Claire Brodie, Amy Brodie, Jeyda Brodie and Stephen Brodie.

Vincent Sebastian, 94
VISTA - Vincent James Sebastian, 94, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at Granite Hills Convalescent Home in El Cajon.
Born Jan. 9, 1906, in Ohio, he lived in Vista for 30 years. He was a barber in Los Angeles for 25 years, worked for Top Hat barber shop in Vista for 25 years and was the proprietor of Vince's barber shop in Vista for five years. He served in the National Guard in Ohio and was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Vista, serving as usher and elder.
Mr. Sebastian was preceded in death by his wife, Madeline Sebastian, in 1994; and his son, Peter Sebastian, in 2000. He is survived by his sons, John Sebastian of Palm Springs and Anthony Sebastian of San Francisco; brother Steve Sebastian of Ohio; three sisters; grandchildren Kristi O'Coyne and Anthony Sebastian, both of El Cajon; great-grandchildren Katie O'Coyne and Maegen O'Coyne, both of El Cajon; nieces Rosemary Rodgers and Jean Porter, both of Vista, Lola Florez of Guadalajara, Mexico, and Lisa Passin of Columbia, S.C.

Raymond Friedrichs, 79
VISTA - Raymond Charles Friedrichs, 79, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001.
Born in Poway, he lived in Vista. He attended Midland Elementary and graduated from Escondido High School in 1939. He attended Pasadena City College and was a sheet metal worker for Ryan Aircraft. He served in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant in the Pacific Theater during World War II and conducted and played the trumpet in the Army Air Force band. He helped with the construction of Dixon Dam and did cable TV construction. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Escondido and a founding member of their Parent's Club. He was a Scout leader and Eucharistic minister.
Mr. Friedrichs is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Jane Coyer Friedrichs; sons Charles Friedrichs of Rancho Bernardo, Joseph Friedrichs of Carlsbad, R. David Friedrichs of Fullerton, John Friedrichs of Fayetteville, N.Y., and Michael Friedrichs of Escondido; daughter Christine Ann Villalobos of El Cajon; and 21 grandchildren.

Born Oct. 20, 1923, in Beckley, W.Va., he lived in San Diego for 60 years. He was an engineer and was self-employed in a heating and air-conditioning servicing company. He received a Ph.D. in human behavior from United States International University and was a member of Hope United Methodist Church in Rancho Bernardo. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed golfing.
Mr. Hanks is survived by his wife of 41 years, Katharine Hanks of San Diego; daughters Daphne LaTorraca of Poway and Nancy Reis of Alexandria, Va.; brother James David Hanks of Beckley; and three grandchildren.

Garland Gray, 89
REDLANDS - Garland L. Gray, 89, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, at Redlands Community Hospital.
Born July 21, 1911, in Boulder, Colo., he lived in Redlands for four years and had lived in Escondido from 1953 to 1973. He attended New Mexico State University of Engineering and was a civil engineer for 42 years, working for Metropolitan Water District. He was the first city manager for Escondido and was a member of the Methodist Church in Escondido and Redlands.
Mr. Gray was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Gray, on July 27, 2000. He is survived by his daughters, Lola L. Pinder of Banning and Patricia Jean Dunn of Trout Creek, Mont.; son James L. Gray of Pleasanton; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, at Beaumont Presbyterian Church. A private family inurnment will take place at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, where he will be inurned beside his wife.

SUN CITY, Ariz. - Tom N. Evers Sr., 76, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, in Sun City, Ariz.
Born April 19, 1924, in Bristo, Okla., he lived in Sun City for 35 years. He was a master gunnery sergeant in the U.S. military before retiring in 1965.
Mr. Evers is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas Jr. and Karen Evers of Idaho and John and Kandy Evers of California; daughter and son-in-law Linda and Alan Brady of Arizona; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 11, at Eternal Hills Mortuary. A funeral service is scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at the mortuary. Interment will follow.
