Born April 1, 1925, in Wadena, Minn., she lived in San Marcos for three years and previously lived in the Glendale area. She was an executive assistant for Willis Corroon Corp., retiring after 31 years in the insurance industry. She enjoyed playing bridge with friends and traveling.
Ms. Boehne was preceded in death by her mother and father, Delia and Arthur Boehne; and sister Genevieve Quesenberry. She is survived by her stepmother, Sophie Boehne; sisters Elaine Matteson of Minneapolis and Carol Hopper of Romoland; brothers and sisters-in-law Maurice and Adeline Boehne of Wadena, Minn., Edgar Boehne of Deer Creek, Minn., Gordon and JoAnn Boehne of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Arthur and Margaret Boehne of Nevis, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.
A private Burial service will take place in Wadena. A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary.

Mrs. Baird is survived by her husband of 39 years, Bert E. Baird of San Marcos; sons Michael J. Baird of Novato, Rockey L. Baird of Pittsburg and Patrick L. Baird of Granbury, Texas; and grandchildren Marissa J. Baird and Bryce E. Baird, both of Granbury.

OCEANSIDE - W. Sam Clark, 78, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at Manor Care in Encinitas.
Born Feb. 4, 1922, in Oakland, he lived in Oceanside and had lived in Vista for 40 years. He was a retail clerk manager for Thrifty Drug store for 10 years and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Clark is survived by his daughter, Claudia Sneigoski of Whitehall, Mont.
A private cremation is planned, with Burial at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.

RANCHO BERNARDO - Wanda Jean Hillard Martin, 68, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, in San Diego.
Born Sept. 17, 1932, in Newton, Texas, she lived in Rancho Bernardo for 10 years. She was an administrative assistant for the Department of the Navy before retiring.
Mrs. Martin is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Joel and Cathy Ganze of Snelleville, Ga., and Robert Ganze of Fredericksburg, Va.; daughters and son-in-law Shelley Goedert of Fresno and Rebecca and Kemp Long of Conakry, Guinea, Africa; brothers and sister-in-law Shelley and Bobbeye Hilliard of Corpus Christi, Texas, and John Hilliard of Houston; sister and brother-in-law Ruth Ann and Cliff McDowell of Orange, Texas; and six grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Friday, Jan. 5, at Poway-Bernardo Mortuary Chapel, with the Rev. Barry Click officiating. A private Interment took place at Dearborn Memorial Park.

FULLERTON - John Avery "Jack" Garinger, 87, died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2001, in Fullerton.
Born Dec. 7, 1913, in Coleraine, Minn., he lived in Fullerton for more than two years and had lived in Escondido for 21 years. He worked for Chevron in El Segundo for 40 years and was manager of the Standard Oil Credit Union for 28 years. He was a Mason and served on the El Segundo School Board during the 1950s.
Mr. Garinger is survived by his wife of 38 years, Adeline Garinger of Fullerton; sons David Garinger and James Garinger, both of El Segundo; stepdaughters Nancy Brewbaker of Anaheim and Janice Welch of Buffalo, N.Y.; numerous grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Burial took place at Riverside National Cemetery.

Nicholas Kovalenko, 40
OCEANSIDE - Nicholas Robert Kovalenko, 40, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, of a massive head injury, in San Diego.
Born July 13, 1960, in Santa Cruz, he lived in Oceanside for five years. He graduated from San Dieguito High School and worked for Royal Roofing. He enjoyed surfing and skiing.
Mr. Kovalenko was preceded in death by his mother, Sharon Lenore Hansen, on Aug. 23, 1998. He is survived by his companion of one year, Carmen Martin of Oceanside; father George Kovalenko of Maui; stepfather Don Hansen of Montana; brothers Christian Hansen, Sage Hansen and Boris Kovalenko, all of Encinitas; sisters and brother-in-law Heidi Hansen Garvey and Kevin Garvey of Encinitas; and nieces Makena Garvey and Anna Kovalenko.
A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, Jan. 20, at North Jetty at Oceanside Harbor, with the Rev. Mel Kleschnick officiating. Burial will follow.

CARLSBAD - Paul A. Foster , 64, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at Scripps Green Hospital in La Jolla.
Born May 16, 1936, in La Junta, Colo., he lived in Carlsbad for one year and had lived in Bay Point. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam wars and retired with the rank of chief master sergeant, E-9. He was the safety director for Pacific Maritime Association and enjoyed golf.
Mr. Foster is survived by his wife, Virnell Foster of Carlsbad; daughters Mary La Comb and Stacy Cheverton, both of Corona; son Robert B. Foster of Pittsburg; stepdaughters Sherril Altstadt of La Mesa and Nikki Morgan of San Diego; stepson Scott Romero of La Mesa; brothers Stephen C. Foster and Gregory M. Foster , both of Carlsbad; six grandchildren; and six stepgrandchildren.

Born Feb. 20, 1943, in Akron, Ohio, he lived in Murrieta for three years. He was a chef for 25 years before retiring.
Mr. Wright is survived by his wife of 33 years, Pamela Wright of Murrieta; sons and daughters-in-law Raymond and Gaby Wright of El Cajon, Robert and Jaynie Wright of Bakersfield, Rodney and Tiffany Wright of San Diego and Terrance and Colleen Wright of Detroit; daughters and sons-in-law Betty Lou and Jack Whitney of Everett, Wash., and Samantha and Frank Cabadas of Lake Elsinore; brothers and sisters-in-law William and Lona Wright and Terry and Toni Wright, all of Portland, Ore., Ronni Wright and Debbie Gansch of El Cajon; and 17 grandchildren.

LAKE ELSINORE - Violet Sweet McFarland, 92, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at her home.
Born Feb. 26, 1908, in Seattle, she lived in Lake Elsinore for 30 years. She worked in editing for the U.S. Department of Justice for nine years. She graduated from the University of Washington State with a bachelor of arts in 1928 and received a master of arts from Columbia University. She was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority and the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. She was a teacher in Washington, Hawaii and Japan.
Mrs. McFarland was preceded in death by her mother and father, Annie and Judson Sweet. She is survived by two nieces and numerous grand-nieces and nephews.
Burial will take place at Lewiston City Cemetery.

Mr. Hurlocker is survived by his daughter, Heidi Wendt of Chico; sons Kelsey Scott Hurlocker of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Adam Hurlocker of Port Lewis, Wash.; brothers Harold F.
