ESCONDIDO - Orlena Graves :Aunt Dee" Walchel, 90, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, in Escondido.
Born Nov. 21, 1909, in Milton, Okla., she lived in Escondido for 60 years. She was the owner of Knotty Pine Cafe in Escondido from 1939 to 1982.
Ms. Walchel is survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Golda and Homer Gandy of Escondido, and Betty and Manuel Nova of Bakersfield; two nephews; and two nieces.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

J. Vernon Jones, 88
VISTA - J. Vernon Jones, 88, died Friday, Jan. 15, 2000, at Pleasant Care Home Facility in Vista.
Born April 21, 1911, in Alva, Okla., he lived in Bonsall for 27 years. He raised avocados and was the mayor of Bonsall. He ran a column for the Vista Press, writing under the name, Waggin Tongue Jones. He helped found the Bonsall Chapter of the Lions Club and was its first president. He wrote the Bonsall Crossroad News and was a photographer in Northwest Arkansas.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carolyn P. Jones of Vista; son and daughter-in-law Fred A. and Adrienne Jones of Vista; grandchildren Bonnie and Frank Vessels and Balinda and Kevin Dickson, all of Bonsall, Dodie and Jeff Bumgardner of Poway and David Smith of Joshua Tree; and great-grandchildren Bryan, Kash, Colt, Lynn, Erin, Steven, Bree and Chad.
A celebration life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, at Grace Presbyterian Church in Vista, with the Rev. Tom Straeter officiating.
Lillian Engebretson, 90
VENTURA - Lillian F. McGivney Engebretson, 90, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at Victoria Care Center in Ventura.
Born Aug. 8, 1909, in the Bronx, she lived in Oceanside from 1946 until recently. She attended Walton High School and was a bookkeeper at Chase Manhattan Bank in the 1930s.
Mrs. Engebretson is survived by her son, Roy Engebretson of Tucson, Ariz.; daughter Gail Paulson of Oxnard; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, at Chapel at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, N.Y. Burial will follow.

HEMET - Fae La Von Doyle, 71, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at Beverly Manor in Murrieta.
Born Oct. 2, 1928, in Bellingham, Wash., she lived in Hemet for 14 years. She worked for Family Solutions in Placentia for 10 years and was a member of Perris Community Church.
Mrs. Doyle is survived by her son, Don Doyle of Palmdale; daughter Mary Lou Cahow of Canyon Lake; and four grandchildren.
A private service is planned. Burial will take place at Riverside National Cemetery.

Frank Prandini, 74
MURRIETA - Frank William Prandini, 74, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000.
Born April 16, 1925, in Glendale, Pa., he lived in Murrieta for six years. He was a truck driver for Coca-Cola Co. for 28 years. He served as a fireman 1st class in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1945 and was awarded 10 Battle Stars in World War II. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Prandini is survived by his wife, Judy Prandini of Murrieta; son Greg Prandini of Pasadena; daughters Dawn P. Snuggerud of Mission Viejo and April Prandini of Hesperia; brother Harry Prandini of Bethal Park; sisters Marie Williard and Adaleen Antantis, both of Carnegie, Pa.; and four grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. today, Jan. 19, at Valley Funeral Home in Murrieta. A graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. at Rose Hills Cemetery in Whittier.

SUN CITY - Vienieta Mary Keirans, 80, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, of pulmonary disease.
Born May 27, 1919, in St. Louis, she lived in Sun City for three years. She was a secretary for the Municipal Court of Redwood in Redwood City and a member of St. Vincent's Catholic Church.
Mrs. Keirans is survived by her brother, Curtis Bartley of Penryn; sisters Beatrice Bush of Sun City, Ariz., and Freida Royden of Phoenix; and one grandchild.
A graveside service was held Tuesday, Jan. 18, at Riverside National Cemetery. Burial followed.

CARLSBAD - Donald M. Nelson, 83, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at Ocean View Convalescent Home of renal and cardiac failure.
Born Sept. 27, 1916, in Oakland, he lived in Carlsbad for 20 years. He worked for Power Plus Corp. in San Marcos before retiring and was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous in North County.
Mr. Nelson is survived by his wife of 33 years, Lisa Nelson of Carlsbad; sons and daughters-in-law Eric A. and Taya Nelson and Steven D. and Shelley Nelson, all of Fallbrook; daughters and sons-in-law Susan M. and Antonio Bird of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Linda C. and Thomas Benedek of Los Angeles; stepdaughter and stepson-in-law Antonia M. and Jeff Wolf of Covina; brother Robert Nelson of Willow Springs; grandchildren Antonio M. Samuel Hawkins, 80
SAN MARCOS - Samuel Sherrill Hawkins, 80, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at a local convalescent home.
Born Feb. 18, 1919, in Salt Lake City, he lived in San Marcos for 22 years. He was a survey party chief for the city of Los Angeles for 30 years and a member of the Country Cousins Square Dance Club. He was breakfast chairman and bingo chairman for the Twin Oaks Valley Park and was on the Twin Oaks Valley Billiards team. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Hawkins is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Isabel Hawkins of San Marcos; son and daughter-in-law David Rodman and Margie Hawkins of Ontario; daughter and son-in-law Sherrilyn R. and Dennis Condon of Encinitas; brothers and sisters-in-law Thomas G. and Lucille Hawkins and Floyd T. and Bernice Hawkins, all of Salt Lake City; sister Norma E. Nation of Salt Lake City; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nephews and nieces.
Viewing will be held at service time. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at Allen Brothers Mortuary, San Marcos Chapel. A graveside service with Interment is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 24, at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier.

SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. - Calvin L. Heisinger, 74, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at Beverly Health Care in Springfield.
Born June 3, 1925, in Oconto, Wis., he lived in Escondido for 37 years before moving to Tennessee. He was an electronics engineer and the owner of Transcom Electronics in Escondido. He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II.
Mr. Heisinger is survived by his wife of 49 years, Alice Heisinger; son Steven Heisinger of San Marcos; daughters Susan Minnis of Springfield, Sherry Norton of Sacramento; sister Joyce Kiesz of Santa Rosa; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A private cremation was held. A funeral Mass was celebrated Friday, Jan. 7, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Springfield, with the Rev. Mark Beckman officiating. Interment took place at Elmwood Cemetery in Springfield.
Vincent Osuna, 91
ESCONDIDO - Vincent A. Osuna, 91, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, in Escondido.
Born March 15, 1908, in Corona, he lived in Escondido for 54 years. He was the owner of a cocktail lounge for 30 years.
Mr. Osuna was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Osuna, in 1984. He is survived by his sister, Ramona Hedges of California; and several nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 7 p.m., today, Jan. 20, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary. A Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

ESCONDIDO - Bryan Matthew Wagner, 26, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at his home.
Born Aug. 10, 1973, in Escondido, he lived in Escondido for five years and in Ramona for 12 years. He graduated from Ramona High School in 1991 and was the youth pastor at Mount Zion Fellowship in Poway.
Mr. Wagner is survived by his mother, Kathleen Blatchford of Ramona; father and stepmother Lawrence and Linda Wagner of Escondido; brothers and sister-in-law David and Marla Wagner of Escondido and John Blatchford of Ramona; sister Lisa Wagner of Ramona; nieces Christian Wagner and Kathryn Wagner, both of Escondido; and grandparents Hazel Pearson of Ramona and Stanley Wagner of Vista.
Visitation and viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Jan. 21, at McLeod Mortuary, Escondido Chapel. A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at Mount Zion Fellowship in Poway, with the Rev. Stan Josephsen officiating. A graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at Valley Center Cemetery.

SOLANA BEACH - Charles H. Guernsey, 69, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at his home.
Born Aug. 14, 1930, in Louisville, Ky., he lived in Solana Beach for 10 years. He served in the U.S. Navy as a pilot, retiring as lieutenant commander after three tours of duty in Vietnam. He was a pilot for Skywest Airlines, retiring in 1995, and was a member of the San Diego County Sheriff's Reserve.
Mr. Guernsey is survived by his wife, Andrea Guernsey of Solana Beach; son and daughter-in-law Charles H. II and Candace Guernsey of Fulton, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law Charlotte and Seth Brandes of Somis, Caroline Prikosovits of Carlsbad, Colette and Ross Waddell of Carpenteria; sisters Virginia Wooton, Norma Schweitzer and Nora Peveter, all of Louisville; and 13 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at Encinitas Mortuary. A private cremation with scattering of ashes at sea is planned.

ESCONDIDO - Dominic Joseph Pitrone Sr., 86, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, in San Diego.
Born Oct. 30, 1913, in Negaunee, Mich., he lived in Escondido for 40 years. He was a school bus driver for the Escondido Union High School District, retiring in 1985.
Mr. Pitrone is survived by his wife of 58 years, Frances Pitrone of Escondido; son and daughter-in-law Dominic J. Jr. and Julie Pitrone of Escondido; daughters and sons-in-law Anna Mary and George Russo of Negaunee, Mich., and Alexis and Herbert French of Escondido; brother Anthony Pitrone of Trenton, Mich.; sister Sara Pitrone of Negaunee; and five grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 28, at Church of St. Timothy's in Escondido. A private cremation with Burial at sea is planned.

VALLEY CENTER - Estella C. Bowers, 65, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego.
Born July 10, 1934, in Wilmington, she lived in Valley Center for less than one year and in Carmel Mountain for 10 years. She was an electronics assembler, working for several companies.
Mrs. Bowers was preceded in death by her husband, James Bowers, in 1990; her son, Michael Bowers, in 1983; and her daughter, Donna Bowers, in 1980. She is survived by her sons, Theo Bowers of Valley Center and James Bowers of Oregon; daughter Carolyn Burnworth of Valley Center; brothers Harold Campbell of Torrance and Art Campbell of Hemet; 20 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, at Emmanuel Faith Community Church, with the Rev. Jim Learned officiating. Burial will take place at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes.

VISTA - Bruce Eugene Haight, 76, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, in Oceanside.
Born Sept. 18, 1923, in San Mateo, he lived in Vista for 12 years. He was a controller at CBS for 20 years and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He earned a masters in business administration from Stanford in 1951.
Mr. Haight is survived by his sons, Robert Haight of Malibu and Gordon Haight of Pacific Palisades; daughter Nancy Stubbs of Ames, Iowa; sister Eva Woodbury of Stanton, Pa.; and six grandchildren.
Visitation was held Tuesday, Jan. 18, at Allen Brothers Mortuary, Vista Chapel. A memorial service followed, with Chaplain Warren Hume officiating. A private family inurnment will take place at Riverside National Cemetery.
