RAMONA - William "Bill" A. Farr, 84, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at a local hospital.
Born Nov. 23, 1916, in Westfield, Mass., he lived in Ramona for 15 years.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received many awards.
He graduated from the University of Southern California in 1951, with a BA in music. He worked for the Los Angeles Unified School District as a special education teacher for many years before retiring.
Mr. Farr is survived by a brother and several nieces and nephews.
Private family services and cremation have been held.
Joseph Alvarez, 17
ESCONDIDO - Joseph John Alvarez, Jr., 17, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001.
Born Oct. 28, 1983, in Vista, he lived in Escondido for 12 years. He was a student at Valley High School and worked at Pizza Hut in Escondido.
He loved playing and watching football, singing, drawing, poetry and wrestling.
Mr. Alvarez was preceded in death by his father, Joseph John Alvarez, Sr., in 1996. He is survived by his girlfriend, Alexa Espinoza of Escondido; mother Betty Chairez of Escondido; step-father Mario Chairez of Escondido; brothers David, Ricky, Mario Jr., Moses and Matthew Chairez, all of Escondido; sister Lena Alvarez of Escondido and one niece.
Viewing is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. with service at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary with the Rev. David Escovedo officiating. Funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 26, at North County Baptist Church with the Rev. David Escovedo officiating. Interment will follow service at Oakhill Memorial Park with the Rev. Hector Castillo officiating.
Madeline Giesler, 82
VISTA - Madeline Vera "Madge" Giesler, 82, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at her home.
Born March 11, 1918, in Omaha, Neb., she lived in Vista for 18 years. She was a homemaker, a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and St. Francis Altar and Rosary Societies.
Mrs. Giesler was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Albert Giesler in 1969 and son Clarence A. Giesler Jr. in June 2000. She is survived by son Ronald F. Giesler of Reno, NV, daughters Kathy Zakocs of Vista, Lori Shorter of San Diego, Melissa Shultz of La Habra and Tonie Giesler of Houston; 16 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at noon, Saturday, Jan. 27, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, with the Rev. Patrick Mulcahy officiating. There will be a private cremation with inurnment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Rowland Heights.
Mason Clements, 81
RANCHO BERNARDO - Mason Joseph Clements, 81, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at Sharp Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 19, 1919 in Russell, Kansas, he lived in Rancho Bernardo. He was an auto body repair manager, retiring in 1996.
Mr. Clements is survived by daughter Marilyn DeVries and her husband of Osage, Iowa; brothers William Clements and wife of Indian Wells and Charles Clements and wife of Lakewood; sisters Elaine Hunt of Whitter and Regina Johannsen of Sarasota, Fla.; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A private cremation was held and Preferred Alternatives handled arrangements.
Dorothy Talbot, 71
OCEANSIDE - Dorothy Jean Talbot, 71, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at Tri-City Hospital.
Born Dec. 16, 1929, in San Rafael, she lived in Oceanside for 25 years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Talbot is survived by daughters and son-in-law Margret and Joe Reap of El Cajon and Monica Williams of Las Vegas; grandchildren Beth Hutchins, Eric Williams, Sara Minagil and Amanda And Emily Bont and great-grandchildren Derek Hutchins and Veronica Fishpaw.
A private cremation is planned. The family suggests memorial donations to the American Lung Association of San Diego, 2750 Fourth Ave., San Diego, CA 92103.
Luella Faust, 69
ESCONDIDO - Luella Virginia Faust, 69, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at Palomar Medical Center.
Born Aug. 28, 1931, in Hemet, she lived in Escondido for 48 years. She was a homemaker for 50 years, a graduate of Hemet High School and attended Chaffey College. She participated with the Ramona Pageant in Hemet, Hemet Beauty Pageant, 18 years with Little League and the Congregational Church in Hemet, and 40 years with Orange Glen Baptist and Evangelical Church of Escondido.
Mrs. Faust is survived by husband Rusian L. Faust of Escondido; son Robert L. Faust of Escondido; daughters Deborah Z. Taylor of Escondido and Brenda F. Herd of Escondido; sisters Lala Ann Garrett of San Jacinto; grandchildren Jennifer, Rebecca, Erin and Kimbery Taylor, Matthew and Daniel Herd and Andrew Faust.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church with the Revs. Brad Griener and Wyman Witt officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

SAN MARCOS - Mary Jane Hewlett, 96, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at her home.
Born Oct. 24, 1904, in Neosho, Mo., she lived in San Marcos for three years and was formally of Escondido. She was a sales clerk for Christian Art Studio for seven years.
Mrs. Hewlett was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Hewlett in 1962. She is survived by sister Ethel Queener of Newbury, S. C.; grandchildren Cynthia Hewlett of Escondido, Martin Hewlett of Lake Tahoe, Sherry, Diana and Del Turk, all of Murrieta, Lee Slejer of Los Angeles, Lynn Berenschor of Escondido and Penny and Don Hewlett, both of Escondido; and many great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at Oak Hill Memorial park with the Rev. Richard Williams of Emmanuel Faith Community Church in Escondido, officiating.

Norma Fiddler, 71
BONSALL - Norma R. Fiddler, 71, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at home under the care of Tri-City Hospice and family.
Born March 18, 1929, in San Francisco, she was a resident of Bonsall for 10 years. She was a member of the California Protea Association. Gardening was one of her loves.
Mrs. Fiddler is survived her husband, Daniel B. Fiddler; daughter Cheryl, L. Shardlow of Scottsdale, Ariz.; son and daughter-in-law Jim and Janet Riffle of Aguila, Ariz.; sisters Frances Bradley and Diane Rising; brothers Robert, Edward and David Fisse; grandchildren Christina, Catherine, David and Jonathan Shardlow and Jennifer Riffle.
There will be a private family inurnment at Point Loma Cemetery.

Jerome Tannen, 80
LAKE MONTEZUMA, Ariz. - Jerome Tannen, 80, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, in Vista.
Born April, 25, 1920, in Willmington, Del., he lived in Lake Montezuma for 22 years. He was in the U.S. Air Force for 26 years, and retiring with the rank of CW03 and served during World War II and the Korean War.
Mr. Tannen is survived by sons Michael Tannen of Clovis and Dennis J. Tannen of Ontario; daughters Bea Dornon of Vista and Sandra Farley of Barstow; sister Malchie Glazier of Willmington, Del., and 10 grandchildren.
No formal services are planned. There will be a private cremation.
Rosario Jimenez, 86
OCEANSIDE - Rosario C. Jimenez, 86, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at Tri-City Medial Center.
Born Jan. 15, 1915, in Mexico, she lived in Oceanside for 40 years.
Mrs. Jimenez was preceded in death by her husband, Justino Jimenez in 1983. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Connie and Sabastian Lopez of Oceanside; brothers and sisters-in-law Jose Maria and Ageda Cisneros of Mexico and Lorenzo and Isabel Cisneros of Mexico; sister Elena Mancilla of Mexico; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. with rosary recited at 7 p.m. today, Jan. 24, at Eternal Hills Mortuary Chapel. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, at Mission San Luis Rey Parish Chapel with the Rev. Garrett officiating. Interment will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

OCEANSIDE - Eileen Jean Bellafaire, 65, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at Tri-City Medical Center.
Born July 21, 1935, in Michigan, she lived in Oceanside for seven years. She was a homemaker for 44 years.
Mrs. Bellafaire is survived by her husband of 45 years, Larry Bellafaire of Oceanside; sons and daughters-in-law David and Joy Bellafaire of San Diego, Dana Bellafaire of Oceanside, Dean and Nicole Bellafaire of Michigan, and Douglas and Marsha Bellafaire of Oceanside; Daughter and son-in-law Deborah and Bill Stephanoff of Michigan; brother Casmir Pietrowski; sister and brother-in-law Denise and Randall Powers of Florida and 11 grandchildren.

ESCONDIDO - Frances A. Smallwood, 75, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at her home.
Born Feb. 9, 1925, in Toronto, Canada, she lived in Escondido for 20 years.
Mrs. Smallwood retired in 1992 from the Escondido Elementary School District. She attended the Church of Resurrection, was active in Rancho Bernardo Senior Center Bowling League, Escondido Senior Center and a retirement group from Escondido Elementary School District.
Mrs. Smallwood was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph V. Smallwood on Jan. 10, 1986. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Richard and Jennifer Craig of San Jose, Don and Charlene Smallwood of Mission Viejo; brother and sister-in-law John and Erica Rose of British Columbia; sister and brother-in-law Lil and Cy Hodgkiss of Ontario; grandchildren Shelley Diaz, Amy Payne and Marcy Kiar; and great-grandchildren Rebekah, Caleb, Jessica Diaz and Maggie and Zoey Payne.

Raymond Jacques, 59
CARLSBAD - Raymond J. Jacques, 59, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, at Balboa Naval Hospital.
Born Feb. 6, 1941, in Waterville, Maine, he lived in Carlsbad for 14 years.
He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 11 years. He retired from the U.S. Marine Corps after 30 years.
He was awarded the Legion of Merit, Silver Star, Bronze Star, Navy Commendation, Purple Heart, Navy Achievement, Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, Army Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal, Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal and National Defense Service Medal.
Mr. Jacques was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Jacques. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Cynthia A. Jacques of Carlsbad; son Raymond J. "Joe" Jacques III of Carlsbad, daughter Kerry A. Backues of Oceanside; sisters Julie Levesque of Chicago, Fern Balian of Atlanta, Ga., Irene Gagnon of Winslow, Maine, Jeanne French of Fairfield, Maine and Joanne Jacques of Waterville, Maine.
A memorial service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 26, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, Pt. Loma with full military honors.
Inurnment will follow the service at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery.

Rodolfo Alvarez, 62
TEMECULA - Rodolfo "Rudy" Alvarez Jr., 62, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla from injuries sustained in a car accident.
Born Aug. 27, 1938, in Harlingen, Texas, he lived in Temecula. He retired from the San Diego County Sheriff's Dept. in 1991. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, retiring in 1975 at a first lieutenant. He served two tours in the Vietnam War.
Mr. Alvarez was preceded in death by his mother Abelia "Billie" Alvarez and father Rodolfo Alvarez Sr. He is survived by his wife of four years, Maria Carmen Alvarez of Temecula and former wife Iris R. Alvarez of Oceanside; sons and daughter-in-law Rodolfo "Rudy" Alvarez III of Oceanside, Gilbert A. and Laura Alvarez of Oceanside, and Oscar M. Alvarez of Temecula; daughters and sons-in-law Alma and Rogelio Sandoval of Oceanside, Ruby and Michael Adams of Barstow and Cheryl Alvarez of Oceanside; sister Elva Molina of Corpus Christi, Texas; grandchildren Rosa, Leslie, Tracy, Doreen, Elizabeth, and Michael "Mikey" and great-grandchild Cynthia.

Born Aug. 10, 1920, in Ottawa, Kan., she lived in Escondido for 75 years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Ponce is survived by sons Nick Ponce of Escondido and Buzz Ponce of Henderson, Nev.; sister Mary Brown of Palm Springs and two grandchildren.
A graveside service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, at Oak Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Mica Togami M. Div. officiating.

RANCHO PENASQUITOS - Michael Don Espiritu, 44, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, in Carmel Mountain Ranch, from drowning.
Born July 28, 1956, in Great Lakes, Ill., he lived in Rancho Penasquitos for 15 years and San Diego for 42 years.
He was a water quality superintendent for Helix Water District for 20 years, a member of the American Waterworks Association, State Operators Certification Committee and the Metropolitan Water District Technical Advisory Committee.
Mr. Espiritu is survived by his wife of 17 years, Lisa Ann Espiritu of San Diego; mother Resurreccion Lopez Espiritu of San Diego; father Manuel Lorenzo Espiritu of San Diego; sons Kevin Michael Espiritu of San Diego and Bryan Matthew Espiritu of San Diego and sisters and brothers-in-law Maureen and Jeff Stenstrom of Long Beach, Molly and Jay Margallo of San Diego and Mitzi and Karl Wiseman of The Woodlands, Texas.
Visitation and rosary was held , and a funeral on Jan. 19, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Poway. There was a private inurnment at Mission San Luis Rey in Oceanside.
