WILDOMAR - Hector M. Borja, 73, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Riverside.
Born Nov. 1, 1927, in Los Angeles he lived in Wildomar for 14 years. He worked for 47 years at a lapper/finisher for Rockwell International. He was an avid basketball fan. Mr. Borja served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1947.
Mr. Borja is survived by brothers Oscar Borja of Montebello and Teddy Borja of Escondido and sister Gloria Arangua of La Puente.
Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, at Valley Funeral Home. A funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 26, at St. Martha's Catholic Church. Burial followed at Riverside National Cemetery.

Stephen Halstead, 46
MURRIETA - Stephen "Buzz" Lee Halstead, 46, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, from injuries sustained in a car accident.
Born Feb. 13, 1954, in Hampton, Va., he lived in Riverside County for 19 years. He worked at Guidant in Temecula for 15 years as a Senior Tech II. He served in the U.S. Marines and liked to ride and build motorcycles, and was interested in NASCAR.
Mr. Halstead is survived by father Wilbur Halstead of Richmond, Va.; mother Shirley Johnson of Richmond, Va.; sons Jesse James Halstead, Jace Halstead, Justin Halstead and Jerimiah Halstead, all of Temecula; daughters Jaylene Halstead of Temecula and April Riggins of Norfolk, Va.; brother William Shawn Johnson of Chesterfield, Va.; sister Deborah Kellams of Glendale, Ariz.; aunt Jean McLean of Yorktown, Va.; and cousins Joe Kellams of Glendale, Ariz., Larry McLean of North Carolina, Ricky McLean of Massachusetts, and Eddie Miller of Michigan.
Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, Jan. 27, at Valley Funeral Home. A funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. today, Jan. 27, at Lake Elsinore Calvary Chapel.

CARLSBAD - Roberto Zavala, 41, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000.
Born June 7, 1959 in Brownsville, Texas, he lived in Carlsbad. He served in the U.S. Marines as a lieutenant corporal from 1976 to 1980. He was a member of Carlsbad Christmas Bureau, St. Patrick's Church SHARE program, Mexican American Association and Boy's Club Volunteer.
Mr. Zavala is survived by previous wife of 16 years, Maria Emma Zavala of Garland, Texas; son Danny Zavala of Garland, Texas; stepsons Francisco Vargas of San Jose and Peter Vargas of Oceanside and daughter Crystal Zavala of Garland, Texas.
A Mass will be celebrated at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with the Rev. Stephen McCall officiating. Inurnment is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego.

OCEANSIDE - Helen Elizabeth Bartz, 70, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at Tri City Hospital.
Born Sept. 24, 1930, in London, she lived in Oceanside for 46 years. She worked for the County of San Diego Adult Probation Department as a supervisor in the transcription department and retired in July, 1994. She had been an ambulance driver for the British Territorial Service.
Mrs. Bartz is survived by her companion of 30 years, Robert Stross of Oceanside; son and daughter-in-law Michael Urban Prentice and Debra Prentice of Temecula; Daughter Elizabeth Urban of Oceanside; sisters and brother-in-law Jean and Harry Hooker of London and Audrey Barney of London and grandchild Joseph Blatnick.
A memorial is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at United Methodist Church in Oceanside with the Rev. Stover officiating. There will be a private cremation.

ESCONDIDO - Vivian Besanson, 79, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, at her home.
Born Aug. 29, 1921, in Oregon, she lived in Escondido for 15 years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Besanson was preceded in death by her husband, M.H. "Frenchie" Besanson in 2000. She is survived by sons and daughter-in law Archie and Michelle Clark of Poway and Gary Bayless of Ridgecrest; daughters Letlani Hunter and Ona Taylor, both of Ridgecrest and Wanda Aragon of Bakersfield; sister-in-law Ruth Englund of Eugene, Ore., 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A private inurnment will take place at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery.

Gordon P. Gibson, 86
PALM DESERT - Gordon P. Gibson, 86, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at a Palm Desert convalescent home.
Born Nov. 7, 1914, in Canada, he was a resident of Palm Desert. He retired from W. P. Fuller in Los Angeles. He was in the Third Division Infantry in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a 32 Degree Mason, an El Bekal Shriner, an athletic trainer and equipment manager fro Laguna Beach High School.
Mr. Gibson was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Gibson in 1983. He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Norman and Sally Gibson of Ocean Shores, Wash. and John and Debby Gibson of Boulder City, Nev.; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A private family will take place at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Born March 29, 1944, in Malden, Mass., he lived in Oceanside for 17 years. He worked at Camp Pendleton and FedMart. He served in the U.S. Army.

OCEANSIDE - Marguerite Bernadette Pajares, 84, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at Tri City Hospital in Vista.
Born April 7, 1913, in Duluth, Minn., she lived in Oceanside for two and one half years. She lived in Manhattan Beach and Palm Springs before moving to El Dorado-Mar Vista in Oceanside.
Mrs. Pajares was preceded in death by her husband, George J. Pajares, March 6, 1997. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law William and Cheri Pajares of Malibu; daughter and son-in-law Judith and Thomas Rouse of Cardiff; sister Joanette Pajares of Carlsbad; grandchildren Jason and Timothy Rouse and Wade and Lindsay Pajares; and great-grandchild Kai Dylan Pajares.
A Mass will be celebrated in her name at 13:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church. A memorial service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday Feb. 3, at Oceanside Community Church with the Rev. Rodgers officiating. Mrs. Pajares body was donated to Loma Linda Medical University.

Charles Walden, 86
FALLBROOK - Charles Peet Walden, 86, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001.
Born June 28, 1915, in Savannah, Ga., he lived in Fallbrook for more than 40 years. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1981. He served in the U.S. Army, and was an inspector of material at Douglas Aircraft.
Mr. Walden is survived by nephews Juluis Walden of Santee, Leroy Walden of San Jacinto and Robert Walden of Huntville, Texas and nieces Neva Unphenour of San Jacinto and Gwendolyn Alan of Jarbridge, Nev.

ESCONDIDO - H. William von Langen, 80, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001.
Born Sept. 26, 1920, in Topeka, Kan., he lived in Escondido and San Diego County for 11 years. He was an architectural engineer in private practice and for more than 20 years with Deere and Company, Mobline, Ill. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on a minesweeper.
Mr. von Langen is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty von Langen of Escondido; son Richard von Langen of Costa Mesa; daughters Nancy von Langen-Scott of San Diego and Susan Erickson of Bettendorf, Iowa and grandchildren Lindsey Jean Erickson; Corey James Scott and Jessie Elizabeth Erickson.

LAKE SAN MARCOS - Loretta Bernadette Hansen, 81, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, in a local convalescent home.
Born Dec. 27, 1919, in Wilmerding, Pa., she lived in Lake San Marcos for 24 years. She worked on the accounting staff at UCSD for about 15 years. She was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church and the St. Mark's Women's Guild and the gift shop.
Mrs. Hansen was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hansen in 1984. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Robert Alan and Laurel Hansen of San Diego; Daughters and sons-in-law Mary Susan Hansen and Alan Waltner of San Francisco, Linda Hansen-Smith and Curtis Smith of Poway and Kathryn Hartlaub of Columbus, Ohio; sister Kathleen E. ENCINITAS - Leslie Tolman Campbell, 74, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at Encinitas Scripps Hospital of complication of diabetes.
Born June 5, 1927, in Star Valley, Wyoming, he lived in Encinitas for 28 years. He retired in 1981, from Naval Undersea Research and Development in Point Loma. He was discharged from the U.S. Navy as a Fire Controlman 2nd Class in 1955. He was member of the Church of Latter day Saints, the National Alliance of the Mentally Ill, North Coast San Diego County and Schizophrenics in Transition Corporation.
Mr. Campbell is survived by his wife of 51 years, Edwina M. Campbell of Encinitas; sons and daughter-in-law Steve Campbell of San Diego, and David P. and Katja Campbell of Kunzell, Germany; daughters June Clayton and Judy Wengler both of Whittier; brother Chad Campbell of Victoria, Texas; sisters Jeanine Gilligan of Wyoming and Wyla Thompson of Salt Lake City; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
