SAN MARCOS - Marilu Johnson, 71, died Sunday, July 2, 2000, of cancer, at her home.
Born July 23, 1928, in Los Angeles, she lived in San Marcos for 25 years. She worked for the San Diego County Flower & Plant Association, retiring in 1995. She served as secretary for the southern office of the California Floral Council for many years, was the secretary for the California Ornamental Research Federation and the Live Plant Growers Association and worked with the Southern California Nisei Farmers League.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Karen Johnson of Solvang; daughters and son-in-law Pamela and Peter Couey of San Diego and Cassandra Goswick Simmons of Valley Center; grandchildren Darren, Jennifer and Stephanie Robinson, Bree and Rhea Goswick and Steven and Jamie Johnson; and great-grandchildren Vanessa Robinson and Lauren and Thomas Johnson.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 5, at St. Mark's Catholic Church in San Marcos.
Accu-Care Cremation handled arrangements.

Michael Milch, 90
ESCONDIDO - Michael Don Milch, 90, died Friday, July 7, 2000, in Escondido.
Born March 4, 1910, in Iowa, he lived in Escondido for 15 years. He was an electrician and served in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Milch is survived by his wife, Celestine M. Milch of Escondido; sons Michael Theodore Milch and Robert M. Milch; daughters Sonya Adamson and Sandra Glenn; brother John Milch; sister Vera Hagey; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 15, at the Resurrection Church in Escondido.
The family suggests memorial donations to Elizabeth Hospice, 150 W. Crest St., Escondido, CA 92025.

Hannah Geise, 4
NEWPORT NEWS - Hannah C. Geise, 4, died Monday, July 3, 2000, at the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters in Norfolk, Va.
Born in Moreno Valley, she lived in Newport News for four years.
Hannah is survived by her parents, Jeffrey and Kelly Geise; sister Taylor Geise; grandparents Cornelia and Robert Hawk of Tazwell, Tenn., Michael and Josie Jones of Santa Fe, Texas, Kathy and Tom Heckendorn of San Marcos and Leonard and Chris Geise of Temecula; great-grandparents Fern Pilley of Grants Pass, Ore., Sybil Calloway of Montgomery, Ala., Dorothy Jones of Salisbury, N.C., and Helen Hawk of Avis, Pa.; uncles Scott Hawk of Santa Fe, Texas, and Jason Geise of Poway.
A funeral service was held Friday, July 7, at the Langley Air Force Base, with Chaplain Tom Malek-Jones officiating.
The family suggests memorial donations to Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters, 601 Children's Lane, Norfolk, VA 23507.

Marian Arnold, 79
TEMECULA - Marian G. Arnold, 79, died Tuesday, July 11, 2000, from complications of diabetes, at Beverly Healthcare Manor in Murrieta.
Born July 12, 1920, in Lafayette, Ind., she lived in Temecula for 12 years. She was a 1938 graduate of Jefferson High School and an administrative assistant for the dean of agriculture at Purdue University for five years. She was also a homemaker.
Mrs. Arnold is survived by her husband, Carl Arnold of Temecula; daughters Deborah K. Arnold of Temecula and Rebecca R. Markopoulos of Fallbrook; and grandson Beau L. Arnold of Huntington Beach.
Visitation was held Thursday, July 13, at Evans-Brown Mortuary in Sun City. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today, July 14, at the mortuary. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Riverside National Cemetery.

Ann Wilkinson, 60
WILDOMAR - Ann Teresa Wilkinson, 60, died Monday, July 10, 2000, of metastatic carcinoma, at her home.
Born May 3, 1940, in Montreal, she lived in Wildomar for 24 years. She was an import/export coordinator for Flowserve for 24 years.
Mrs. Wilkinson is survived by her son, Jason Wilkinson of San Luis Obispo; daughters Barbara Carrillo of Riverside and Kelly Wilkinson of Rancho Santa Margarita; brothers Jack McCann of Washington state and Malcom McCann of Portland; sisters Maureen Silvino of Palos Verdes and Barbara Crees of Culver City; and granddaughters Megan and Natalie Rivera of Riverside.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, at St. Francis of Rome Catholic Church in Wildomar. A private burial will take place at Olivewood Cemetery in Riverside.
Valley Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Eunice Burkhart, 75
SUN CITY - Eunice Cedric Burkhart Jr., 75, died Tuesday, July 11, 2000.
Born Sept. 22, 1924, in Sun City, he lived in Sun City for 14 years. He was an engineer for McDonnell Douglas in Irvine for 15 years and served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945. He retired from Uniroyal Tire Co. in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Mr. Burkhart is survived by his wife, Maria Burkhart of Sun City; and brother Ray Burkhart of Vista.
Burial will take place at Mount Zion Cemetery.

Woodrow Caldwell, 84
WILDOMAR - Woodrow Armstrong Caldwell, 84, died Monday, July 10, 2000, of cancer, at his home.
Born July 22, 1915, in Winterset, Iowa, he lived in Wildomar. He was a preacher for churches in California, Iowa and Nevada for 60 years. He was a member of Gold Prospectors of America in Temecula and served in the U.S. Army for one year. He was the moderator for a religious program on the Outdoor Channel.
Mr. Caldwell is survived by his wife, Jerrie Caldwell of Wildomar; son Thomas M. Caldwell of Santa Clara; daughter Julie R. Kelley of Cupertino; and granddaughters Amy Kane and Alexandria Kelley, both of Cupertino, and Apriel Antispel of Lake Forrest.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 22, at Rancho Community Church in Temecula.
The family suggests memorial donations to Temecula Valley Christian Center, Vision in Motion, 43300 Business Park Drive, Temecula, CA 92589; or Hospice of the Valley, 28127 Bradley Road, Sun City, CA 92586.

Marybeth Bratton, 73
VISTA - Marybeth Bratton, 73, died Monday, July 10, 2000, at Tri-City Medical Center.
Born Sept. 4, 1926, in Easton, Ill., she lived in Vista for 39 years. She was a computer systems analyst at Camp Pendleton and Point Loma for 30 years. She was a member of and volunteer for Friends of the Vista Library and the Audubon Society. She was a member of the Oceanside and Carlsbad Coin Club and a volunteer tutor at Olive Elementary School in Vista. She was a volunteer for the Newport, Wash., Historical Society.
Mrs. Bratton was preceded in death by her husband, William W. Bratton, Sgt.Maj. USMC, Ret., on July 16, 1998. She is survived by her daughters, Kim Barbehenn of Vancouver, Wash., Beth Hutchins of El Paso, Texas, Linda Cochran of Pittsburgh and Cynthia McBride of Oceanside; sister Jeanne Yager of Georgetown, Texas; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, July 14, at Allen Brothers Mortuary, Vista Chapel. A private cremation is planned with inurnment to take place at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma.
The family suggests memorial donations to the Audubon Society, 2321 Marina Blvd., Suite D, San Diego, CA 92110.

Barbara Bourdot, 84
CARMEL MOUNTAIN - Barbara Jane Bourdot, 84, died Wednesday, July 5, 2000, of pneumonia, at Sunbridge in Carmel Mountain.
Born Nov. 20, 1915, in New York City, she lived in Escondido for nine months and in Rancho Bernardo for 15 years. She was a sales representative in advertising for six years.
Mrs. Bourdot is survived by her husband of 25 years, Walter T. Bourdot of Escondido; brother Howard Steinmetz of Barnegat, N.J.; sisters Jean Fetman of Highland Park, Ill., and Estelle Sheehan of Seminole, Fla.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 29, at Redwood Terrace in Escondido, with Nels Oas officiating.
The family suggests memorial donations to Chalice Unitarian Church in Poway.

Robert Hoskins, 79
CARLSBAD - Robert Edward Hoskins, 79, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at Tri-City Medical Center.
Born March 30, 1921, in New Orleans, he lived in Carlsbad for 21 years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps as an infantry Marine in the 4th Marine Division and was involved in the battles for Roi-Namur Saidan, Tinian. He was awarded a field commission to 2nd lieutenant on Iwo Jima and retired as major.
Mr. Hoskins is survived by his wife of 54 years, Violet Hoskins of Carlsbad; sons and daughter-in-law Donald and Ashley Hoskins of Ramona, Robert E. Hoskins Jr. of Lake Forest; daughter and son-in-law Kathleen and Fraser Wright of Santa Ana; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 16, at Eternal Hills Chapel, with the Rev. David Plank officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, with full military honors.
The family suggests memorial donations to the American Diabetes Association, 225 Broadway, Suite 310, San Diego, CA 92101.

Beryl Gilpin, 93
VISTA - Beryl C Gilpin, 93, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at Pleasant Care of Vista.
Born Nov. 16, 1907, in Spooner, Wis., she lived in Vista for one years and had lived in Oceanside for many years. She was an elementary school teacher for more than 50 years, with the Oceanside School District in the Panama Canal Zone during World War II.
Mrs. Gilpin was preceded in death by her sister, Arlyne Toll. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Woodrow "Don" Gilpin of Vista; sister Hallie Henning of Goose Creek S.C.; and nieces and their husbands Brenda Simo of Del Rey Beach, Fla., Nancy Fallat of Great Falls, Mont., Mary and Mike Osborne and Beverly and Steve D'Errico of Diamond Bar.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today, July 15, at Pleasant Care of Vista.

Nelson Burns, 64
VISTA - Nelson E. "Chris" Burns, 64, died Tuesday, July 11, 2000, at home.
Born July 11, 1936, in Tulsa, Okla., he lived in Vista for seven years. He worked for A-1 Towing before retiring in 1992.
Mr. Burns was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Amee Baur, in February. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mary Burns of Vista; sons and daughters-in-law Nelson C. and Tracie Burns of Arizona and Mary Patricia and Rick Appleton of Oceanside; and grandchildren Eli Baur and Richard and Cory Appleton.
No service will be held at the request of the deceased.
North County Cremation is handling arrangements.

Russell Dietrich, 43
RAMONA - Russell G. Dietrich, 43, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at his home.
Born Aug. 9, 1956, in Milwaukee, Wis., he lived in Ramona for 15 years and in San Diego County since 1963. He was a truck driver for Peirano Topsoils of Escondido for 20 years.
Mr. Dietrich is survived by his wife, Patricia E. Dietrich of Ramona; son Joshua A. Dietrich of Ramona; daughter Elizabeth J. Dietrich of Ramona; brother D. David Dietrich of San Marcos; mother Eloise Dietrich of San Marcos; and father Christ Dietrich of Palm Springs.
A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 16, at 659 Olive Drive in San Marcos. A private cremation is planned.

Lawrence Kane, 56
RANCHO PENASQUITOS - Lawrence E. Kane, 56, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000.
Born May 5, 1944, in Boston, he lived in Rancho Penasquitos for 10 years. He was an electrical technician for the U.S. Government for 34 years, retiring in 1997. He served in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Kane is survived by his wife, Dianne Kane of Rancho Penasquitos; son James Kane of Vista; daughters Laura Lively of San Marcos and Christen Kane of Rancho Penasquitos; brother Michael Kane of Boston; and sisters Christine "Tina" Neal and Joan Montoya, both of Boston.
Visitation was held Friday, July 14, at Poway-Bernardo Mortuary. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 1:30 p.m. today, July 15, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in San Diego. Interment icon will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial donations to a veteran's organization of choice.

Ernest Howell, 66
VISTA - Ernest Clifford Howell, 66, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, of respiratory failure, in Vista.
Born Jan. 20, 1934, in Hughes, Ark., he lived in Vista for nine years. He was a mathematical engineer in Texas, working on the Apollo space program, and served in the U.S. Navy for four years.
Mr. Howell is survived by his mother, Mamie Howell of Vista; son Michael Howell of Alamogordo, N.M.; daughter and son-in-law Lori and Joe Craft of Houston and Lisa Howell of S. Effingham, N.H.; sisters Jean Baughn of Costa Mesa; and grandchildren Amanda, Kristen and Courtney; and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 17, at Cortner Chapel in Redlands. Inurnment will take place at a later date.

Frederick McCullough, 81
VALLEY CENTER - Frederick B. McCullough, 81, died Friday, July 7, 2000, at Palomar Medical Center.
Born May 13, 1919, in Cleveland, he lived in Valley Center for 17 years. He worked for McDonnell Douglas and served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He attended Duke University and Allegheny College, where he received a degree in economics. He was an avocado grower after retirement.
Mr. McCullough is survived by his wife, Dorothy McCullough of Valley Center; sons Frederick B. McCullough Jr., Brian Duncan McCullough and James F. Tait; daughter Katherine Dana Whittaker; sister Ruth McC. Williamson; and seven grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held in Phoenix.
The family suggests memorial donations to the American Lung Association, 2750 Fourth Ave., San Diego, CA 92103.

George Knox, 87
MURRIETA - George W. Knox, 87, died Thursday, July 6, 2000, of pneumonia at Beverly Health Care in Murrieta.
Born May 20, 1913, in East Hampton, Mass., he lived in Murrieta for 10 years. He attended the University of Virginia and George Washington University in the District of Columbia. He was division director for the Department of the Navy in Washington, D.C., for 34 years and served as a 1st lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received the Meritorious Civilian Service Award from Adm. Bennett, chief of naval research, in 1958. He was designated as acting secretary of the Navy in 1962 for a military exercise at the onset of the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Mr. Knox is survived by wife, Jacqueline Knox of Murrieta; daughter Terry Knox of Sun City; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Thursday, July 13, at O'Brien Funeral Home in East Hampton. Burial followed at Brookside Cemetery in East Hampton.
