SAN MARCOS - Lucius Roger Grundy, 83, died Sunday, July 16, 2000, at his home.
Born Jan. 13, 1915, in Washington, Ark., he lived in San Marcos for 19 years. He was a chef for the Santa Fe Railroad, retiring after 40 years.
Mr. Grundy is survived by his wife of 29 years, Elizabeth L. Grundy of San Marcos; daughter Saundra "Sandi" Pagan of Savannah, Ga.; and grandsons Billy and Bryan Pagan of Savannah.
Viewing will be held at service time. A funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, at Allen Brothers Mortuary, San Marcos Chapel, with the Rev. Burt Boudoin officiating. Burial will follow at San Marcos Cemetery.

POWAY - Rebecca "Becky" Loraine Wetter, 42, died Thursday, July 13, 2000, in Poway.
Born Oct. 31, 1957, in Fairfield, she lived in Poway for 30 years. She graduated from Poway High School and was a clerk/checker for Albertson's, Lucky's and Safeway and a member of Retail Clerks Union in Poway.
Mrs. Wetter is survived by her husband, Clinton A. Wetter of Poway; daughters Angela Williams of Santee and Amanda and Allison Wetter, both of Poway; mother Leota R. Hays of Temecula; brother Ronald Hays of Ventura; and sister Shelly Appurley of Germany.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, at Poway-Bernardo Mortuary. A funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, July 20, at the mortuary. Interment
will follow at Dearborn Memorial Park.

ENCINITAS - Marie Beulah McLain, 59, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at an Encinitas hospital.
Born Dec. 7, 1940, in Chicago, she lived in Cardiff for 30 years. She earned a degree in education from Northern Michigan University in 1963 and a MBA from National University in 1978. She was a member of IOOF.
Mrs. McLain is survived by her husband, Theron McLain of Cardiff; and aunt Astrid Schumacher of Powers, Mich.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 22, at the Encinitas Mortuary. A private inurnment is planned.

CANYON LAKE - Gino Eugene Amantia, 84, died Monday, July 17, 2000, at his home.
Born Dec. 29, 1915, in New York City, he lived in Canyon Lake for 20 years. He was an electrician for McDonnell Douglas in Lakewood for 50 years and served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1943. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sun City for 10 years.
Mr. Amantia is survived by his wife, Josephine Amantia of Canyon Lake; daughter Patricia Thompson of Culver City; sister Fanny Jambrone of New York City; and two grandchildren.
Visitation was held Wednesday, July 19, at Miller-Jones Mortuary. A funeral service followed at 1 p.m. at the mortuary. Burial will take place at Riverside National Cemetery.

SUN CITY - Doris D. Ewart, 86, died Saturday, July 15, 2000, of pneumonia, at Hemet Valley Medical Center.
Born Feb. 3, 1914, in Vancouver, British Columbia, she lived in Sun City for 30 years. She was a registered nurse for the Los Angeles Unified School District for 30 years.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 25, at Miller-Jones Mortuary Chapel. A private cremation is planned with cremains to be scattered at sea off the coast of Orange.

LONG BEACH - Edward Fredrick Vargas, 58, died Monday, July 17, 2000, of coronary artery disease, at Eastwood Convalescent Hospital in Long Beach.
He was born Aug. 18, 1941, in Fort Morgan, Colo.
Mr. Vargas is survived by his mother and father, Hope and Bethel Vargas of Wildomar; and sister and brother-in-law Sylvia and Eugene Mares of Washington.
A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today, July 20, at St. Martha's Catholic Church in Murrieta. Burial will follow at Wildomar Cemetery.

Ray Dawson, 78
SUN CITY - Ray W. Dawson, 78, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at his home.
Born Oct. 11, 1921, in Ashland, Ky., he lived in Sun City for 21 years. He was a partner in Pool Mates Inc. in Santa Fe Springs for 35 years and served in the U.S. Army Air Force as a ball turret gunner on a B-17 in the 8th Air Force, flying 25 bombing missions into Germany from 1942 to 1945. He was a 50-year Mason and a member of the Cherry Hills Golf Club.
Mr. Dawson is survived by his wife, LaVerne Dawson of Sun City; son Steven Dawson of Canyon Lake; daughter Susan Dawson of Corona Del Mar; brother Bob Dawson of Ashland, Ky.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 9:15 a.m. today, July 20, at Riverside National Cemetery. A memorial service is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. today, July 20, at Canyon Lake Community Church.

Born Jan. 4, 1939, in Inglewood, he lived in Temecula for 11 years. He was a 1961 graduate of the University of Southern California and a 1964 graduate of USC Law School. He was an attorney in Southern California for 35 years.
Mr. Miller is survived by his wife, Susan Miller of Temecula; sons Todd Miller of Marina Del Rey, Kent Miller of Redwood City and Ryan Miller of Temecula; brother Dean Miller of San Luis Obispo; and sister Adrienne Morrish of St. George, Utah.

POMONA - Stanley Leo McMonagle, 79, died Sunday, July 16, 2000, at Ember Care in Pomona.
Born Feb. 12, 1921, in Harrisburg, Pa., he lived in Romoland for 22 years. He was a self-employed carpenter in California for 40 years and served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945. He was a prisoner of war and a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Moose Lodge. He received a Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star and a Victory Medal in World War II.
Mr. McMonagle is survived by his wife, Edith McMonagle of Romoland; daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Dan Lowry of Orange; sisters Anna Butler of Arkansas, Clair Goode of Oregon and Marie Romar of Denver; brother Joe McMonagle of Michigan; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

POWAY - Tose Onishi, 76, died Sunday, July 16, 2000, at Villa Pomerado in Poway.
Born July 17, 1923, in Nagasaki, Japan, she lived in Poway. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Onishi was preceded in death by her husband, Motoichi Onishi. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Kazuko and Russell Angel of Escondido; and grandchildren Kenneth, Bruce and Kimberly Angel and Susan Bowers.

ANAHEIM - Valentino Contreras, 76, died Thursday, July 13, 2000, of a subdural hematoma, at Palomar Medical Center.
Born Feb. 14, 1924, in Shasta, he lived in Anaheim for 65 years. He worked at Disneyland before retiring in 1979 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Contreras was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Contreras in 1997. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Alfred and Gina Contreras of Anaheim; stepson and daughter-in-law Larry and Minnie Barela of Covina; stepdaughters Clara Losoya of Anaheim Hills and Olivia Barela of Lake Forest; brother and sister-in-law Manuel and Betty Contreras of Whittier; sister Frances Higuera of Escondido; and grandchildren Liz, Marcie, Danielle, Michael, Matthew, Paul, Candace and Eric.
Interment will take place at 2 p.m. Monday, July 24, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.

ESCONDIDO - Catharina Van Den Dungen, 91, died Saturday, June 10, 2000, in Escondido.
Born May 2, 1909, in Belgium, she immigrated to America in 1955.
Mrs. Van Den Dungen is survived by her husband of 65 years, Servatius P. Van Den Dungen of Fallbrook; daughters and sons-in-law Martina and Frank Kreidl, Betsy Ortez and Tom Ortez; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Fallbrook, with the Rev. Bernard Rapp officiating.

ESCONDIDO - Marian Rosina Weber, 54, died Friday, July 14, 2000, at her home.
Born Feb. 16, 1946, in Bussum, Netherlands, she lived in San Diego County for 24 years. She was a licensed vocational nurse for 18 years, the last six with the Center for Endoscopy in Oceanside. She was a member of the Church of the Resurrection in Escondido.
Mrs. Weber is survived by her husband of 37 years, Anthony H. Weber of Escondido; sons and daughters-in-law Gary and Carrie Weber of Temecula and Ted and Judi Weber of Grand Junction, Colo.; daughter and son-in-law Traci and Henry Thys of Escondido; sisters and brother-in-law Anna Hall of San Marcos and Margo and Joe Marsala of Cincinnati; and five grandchildren.

Ms. Vick is survived by her mother, Pat DeMorrow Vick of Oceanside; brothers and sisters-in-law Bob and Diane Vick of Temecula and Paul and Margaret Vick of Oceanside; nieces Windy Simkins, Rebecca and Amanda Vick; and friend Brinda Bish.

DEL MAR - Constance Cheever, 79, died Thursday, July 8, 2000, at Brighton Gardens of Carmel Valley.
Born Jan. 28, 1921, in Massachusetts, she lived in Del Mar for 14 years. She worked for Bank Boston, retiring in 1983. She was a volunteer for Alzheimer's Association.
Ms. Cheever is survived by her brothers, Frank Cheever and John Cheever; and seven nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will beheld at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 30, at Brighton Gardens of Carmel Valley, with family officiating. Inurnment will take place in August at West Wrentham Cemetery in Wrentham, Mass.

Born Jan. 30, 1937, in Redlands, she lived in Escondido for 18 years. She was a homemaker for more than 38 years.
Mrs. Landry was preceded in death by her husband, John Landry, in 1996. She is survived by her sons, John C. Landry of Culpeper, Va., and James Landry of San Diego; and daughter Carolyn Pearson of Lake Elsinore.
No formal service is planned. A private burial will take place at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.

Born July 17, 1930, in the Philippines, he lived in Oceanside for one year. He worked for the civil service as a forester with Philippine government for 30 years.
Mr. Corpuz is survived by his wife of 44 years, Macaria Corpuz of Oceanside; sons and daughters-in-law Crisanto and Doris Corpuz of Alabama and Juanito and Estrella Corpuz Jr. and Elmer Corpuz, all of the Philippines; daughters and sons-in-law Mary Jean and Domingo Pisco of Oceanside and Jennifer and Roberto Geroones of the Philippines; brother Audito Corpuz of the Philippines; sister and brother-in-law Aida and Jaime Suerte of Palm Springs; and 10 grandchildren.
