SAN MARCOS - Helen E. Boyd, 83, died Monday, May 29, 2000, at a local convalescent home.
Born June 8, 1916, in Chicago, she lived in San Diego County for 39 years. She was a homemaker for 30 years and a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church and St. Mark's Altar Society.
Mrs. Boyd was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Boyd, in 1974; and her daughter, Therese Henke, in 1979. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, DeDe Ann and Ken May of Encinitas, Janet Lillie and Jack Taylor of Huntington Beach and Ellen Bloyer of Phoenix; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today, June 1, at San Marcos Cemetery, with the Rev. George Dunkley officiating. Burial will follow.

Mark Kalani, 38
SAN MARCOS - Mark E. Kalani, 38, died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, of cancer, in Tucson, Ariz.
Born July 20, 1961, in Oceanside, he lived in San Marcos. He was an import specialist for Emery Worldwide in San Diego. He was a 1979 graduate of El Camino High School.
Mr. Kalani is survived by his wife of six years, Amy Kalani of San Marcos; mother and father Mary L. Kalani and Paul Kalani Jr. of Oceanside; brothers Paul David Kalani of Las Vegas and Glenn William Kalani of Oceanside; sisters Deborah Lynn Kalani of Oceanside and Teresa Ann Kalani-Newton of Vista; and uncle William H. Cole of Oceanside.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, May 17, in Tucson, for family, friends and hospital staff. A second memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 3, at Meadowlark Community Church in San Marcos.

George A. Pleitez, 71
ESCONDIDO - George A. Pleitez, 71, died Thursday, May 25, 2000, in Mexico City.
Born Feb. 22, 1929, in Guatemala, he lived in Escondido for 30 years. He was a physician at Graybill Medical Group for 30 years. He was a member of the Fallbrook Seventh-day Adventist Church and the American Academy of Family Practice and American Medical Association.
Dr. Pleitez was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth E. Pleitez, in April 1997. He is survived by his son, George A. Pleitez Jr. of Kirkland, Wash.; daughters Elizabeth A. Luepton and Sandra Pleitez Hodge, both of Escondido, and Caroline R. Boyd of Redlands; sisters Raquel A. Cardona and Hortensia Young, both of Portland, Ore., and Estela DeSandoval of Guatamala; and grandchildren Trevor J. Luepton, Rorick D. Luepton, Chase O. Boyd, Zoe Bronwyn Boyd and Ashley Isabella Boyd.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 2, at the Escondido Seventh-day Adventist Church, with the Rev. Gary McCary officiating. Interment
will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

ESCONDIDO - Eileen B. Morris, 90, died Saturday, May 27, 2000, in Escondido.
Born Feb. 13, 1910, in Greensburg, Pa., she lived in Escondido for 36 years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Morris is survived by her husband of 58 years, Eric Morris of Escondido; son and daughter-in-law Robert and Claire Walling of Bend, Ore.; three grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held Wednesday, May 31, at Holy Cross Cemetery in San Diego, with Deacon Robert Walling officiating. Burial followed.

VALLEY CENTER - Elizabeth C. Whitton, 90, died Sunday, May 28, 2000, in Valley Center.
Born Sept. 23, 1909, in Xenia Ohio, she lived in Valley Center and Escondido for five years. She was a homemaker for 60 years.
Mrs. Whitton was preceded in death by her daughter, Jeanne Ann Mosconi; son Thomas L. Whitton; and husband Sidney A. Whitton. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Joan Whitton of Escondido; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be held at noon, with a Mass celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 5, at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Kettering, Ohio, with the Rev. Charles Breslin officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio.

Eleanor Ancker, 96
OCEANSIDE - Eleanor Ancker, 96, died Sunday, May 28, 2000, at Scripps Hospital in Encinitas.
Born Oct. 20, 1903, in Port Huron, Mich., she lived in Oceanside for 36 years. She worked at the University of Chicago as assistant to Dean George Schultz, former secretary of state for President Reagan. She was a volunteer for the Navy Relief Society and the first woman journalist on the editorial staff of the Port Huron newspaper.
Mrs. Ancker was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Tappan, in 1952; and her second husband, Mitchell Ancker, in 1994. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Beverly Tappan of San Diego; grandchildren Mark and Jeff Tappan and Bruce and Jerry Reid; and five great-grandchildren.
No service will be held at the request of the deceased.

Joseph Kudzia, 83
VISTA - Joseph John Kudzia, 83, died Friday, May 26, 2000, at Tri-City Medical Center.
Born June 30, 1916, in Kalamazoo, Mich., he lived in Vista for 11 years. He was a self-employed accountant for 22 years and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Kudzia is survived by his wife, Shirley Kudzia of Vista; son William Kudzia of Scottsdale, Ariz.; daughters Christine Naismith of San Carlos and Kathryn Naismith of Scottsdale; brother Albert Kudzia of Columbia, S.C.; sister Mary Erich of Kalamazoo; and four grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, with the Rev. Peter M. McGuine officiating. A private cremation with inurnment is planned.

OCEANSIDE - James William Browne, 85, died Monday, May 28, 2000, in Oceanside.
Born June 8, 1914, in Ontario, Brantford, Canada, he lived in Oceanside for 15 years. He was a manager for various hotels before retiring and served in the Merchant Marines during World War II.
Mr. Browne is survived by his wife of 59 years, Kathleen Browne of Oceanside; and daughters Cynthia Lowery of El Cajon and Charlene Browne-Davis of New Hampshire.

Ms. Wysocki is survived by her brothers, Eugene Wysocki of Oceanside, Leo Wysocki of Santa Ana and Paul Wysocki of New Britain, Conn.; and sisters Stella Wysocki and Josephine Pozniak, both of Torrington, Conn.
Viewing will be held and a rosary recited at 1:30 p.m. today, June 1, at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. following the viewing, with the Rev. John Dolan officiating. Inurnment will take place at St. Francis Cemetery in Torrington.

SUN CITY - Delmar Enoch Brown, 79, died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at Menifee Valley Medical Center in Sun City.
Born July 1, 1920, in Waterloo, Iowa, he lived in Sun City for six years. He was a journeyman at Laguna Beach Sheet Metal for 40 years and served in the U.S. Navy for 38 years.
Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, June Brown of Sun City; son Dan Brown of Apple Valley; daughters Sandra Espejo of Sun City and Joyce Ruch of Perris; brother David Brown of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and five grandchildren.

TEMECULA - Romulo "Butch" Castaneda Jr., 57, died Thursday, May 25, 2000, of cardiovascular disease, at his home in Temecula.
Born Dec. 22, 1942, in Redlands, he lived in Temecula for four years. He was an equipment operator for Operator Engineers Local 12 for 30 years and was a member of the Lions Club.
Mr. Castaneda is survived by his wife, Betty Castaneda of Temecula; son Romulo Castaneda of Rialto; daughters Mary Ann Castaneda, Deborah Aceves and Jennifer Serrano; and 10 grandchildren.
Viewing was held and a rosary recited on Monday, May 29, at Valley Funeral Home. A funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday, May 30, at St. Martha's Catholic Church in Murrieta. Burial took place at Temecula Cemetery.

WILDOMAR - Dorothy Jean Moriarity 71, died Monday, May 29, 2000, at her home in Wildomar.
Born June 7, 1928, in Los Angeles, she lived in Wildomar for 13 years. She was a homemaker. She served as area chairperson of the J. Clifford Lee Cancer organization and as deputy grand matron and worthy matron with Eastern Star. She was a member of Daughters of the Nile, Elsinore Woman's Club, Nobelettes and president of Oriental Shrine.
Mrs. Moriarity is survived by her husband, James L. Moriarity of Wildomar; daughters Lynn Brannum of Riverside, Doreen Cornelison of Valencia and Suzanne van Kliest of Eugene, Ore.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

JULIAN - Irma Maria Luisa Elliott, 75, died Sunday, May 21, 2000, at Villa Pomerado Nursing facility in San Diego.
Born Sept. 29, 1924, in Kansas City, Mo., she lived in Julian for two years. She was an executive secretary for the Space Division of Electronic Specialist Co., retiring in 1980. She was a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians and was manager of Maynards Beach Pub in Pacific Beach.
Mrs. Elliott was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Clayton Elliott, in 1988. She is survived by her sons, James Aust of Kansas City, Mo., Greg Aust and Clayton Elliott, both of San Diego and Jeff Elliott of Julian; daughters Allison Kim Elliott of Julian and Cynthia Ann Wear of Poway; brother Arnold Gilmore of Idaho; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
