Ella Williams-Reed, 93
ESCONDIDO - Ella Mae Williams-Reed, 93, died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at Life Care Center of Escondido.
Born Feb. 25, 1907, in Abingdon, Va., she lived in Escondido for 11 years. She was a cashier and assistant manager for Sprouse Rietz in Hemet and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Tahquitz-Victoria Chapter 241.
Mrs. Williams-Reed was preceded in death by her first husband, Jess F. Williams, in 1957; and her second husband, Leslie Reed, in 1979. She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Virginia and R.L. Faust of Escondido and Lala Anne Garrett of San Jacinto; sisters Mozell Colley of Junesburg, Tenn., Nell Avin and Loretta Williams, both of Abingdon, Va.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, at San Jacinto Cemetery, with the Rev. Gregg Hepner officiating. Burial will follow.

Lawrence Pederson, 87
RANCHO BERNARDO - Lawrence T. Pederson, 87, died Friday, May 26, 2000.
Born May 23, 1913, in St. Paul, Minn., he lived in Rancho Bernardo for 14 years. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 10 years before retiring and served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1968, receiving a Purple Heart.
Mr. Pederson is survived by his companion of six years, Joyce Schindler of San Diego; daughters Kathleen Frederick of Escondido, Judith Pollmeier of Bettendorf, Iowa, Barbara Kolar of Greenbank, Wash., and Patricia Nagel of Kuna, Idaho; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. today, June 4, at Mercy Hospital Chapel in San Diego.
Poway-Bernardo Mortuary is handling arrangements.

Henry Brown, 91
RANCHO BERNARDO - Henry James Brown, 91, died Saturday, May 27, 2000.
Born Jan. 23, 1909, in New Jersey, he lived in Rancho Bernardo for 32 years. He was captain of the New York City Police Department for 25 years.
Mr. Brown is survived by his sister, Martha B. Smith of San Diego.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, at Dearborn Memorial Park.

Frank Lynch, 89
RANCHO PENASQUITOS - Frank M. Lynch, 89, died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at his home.
Born March 28, 1911, in Olephant, Pa., he lived in Rancho Penasquitos for 26 years. He was a draftsman before retiring.
Mr. Lynch was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Mary R. Lynch. He is survived by his sons, John T. Lynch of Cambridge, Mass., and James R. Lynch of Newport, R.I.; and four grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, June 5, at San Rafael Catholic Church in San Diego. Interment icon will take place at a later date at Dearborn Memorial Park.

Maxine Denton, 83
OCEANSIDE - Maxine V. Denton, 83, died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at her home.
Born Aug. 10, 1916, in Missouri, she lived in Oceanside for 30 years. She worked for Hazel Pearson's Handicrafts, retiring in 1969. She was a member of the Detours Travel Club, Ramblin' Ruth Travel Club and Golden Nugget 24 Karat Club of Las Vegas.
Mrs. Denton was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob C. Denton, in October 1981. she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Dave Dishmon of Oceanside; brothers and sister-in-law Joan and Jack Nickles of Oceanside and Rachael Fields of Buckner, Mo.; sister Francis Denton of Kansas City, Kan.; and grandchildren Erik Hoeffs and Michael Dishmon.
A cryptside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 5, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Linda Maxedon, 43
AUSTIN, Texas - Linda Damewood Maxedon, 43, died Saturday, May 20, 2000, of pancreatic cancer.
Born May 4, 1957, in Maitland, Mo., she lived in Austin and had lived in Poway for more than seven years. She was a business owner.
Mrs. Maxedon was preceded in death by her mother, Barbara Jean Wostal; and her sister, Jackie Clarice. She is survived by her husband, Jerry Allen Maxedon; father Leon N. Damewood; sons and daughter-in-law Michael K. and Annie Diaz and Bradford W. Diaz; stepson Austin V. Maxedon; daughters Kelly N. Lasiter and Kasey D. Lasiter; sisters Darlene Townsend, Sandra Craig, Pamela Odom and Kathy Villegas; brother Michael Damewood; and grandchildren Dominic Diaz, Derin Diaz, Aubrianna Diaz and Jordan Bialey.

Vernon Siebler, 74
SAN DIEGO - Vernon James Siebler, 74, died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, of cancer, in San Diego.
Born Dec. 24, 1925, in Newman Grove, Neb., he lived in San Diego for 46 years. He served in the U.S. Navy as a chief petty officer and an aviation mechanic machinist's mate, ADRCA, before retiring.
Mr. Siebler is survived by his wife of 46 years, Bettie Siebler of San Diego; sons and daughter-in-law Thomas Siebler of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, and Michael and Cheri Siebler of Santee; daughters and son-in-law Janice and Craig Uhlig of Spring Valley and Donna Heller of Lake Arrowhead; brothers Eddie Siebler of La Center, Wash., and Bill Siebler of Torrance; sisters and brother-in-law Francis and Dave Struthers of Fallbrook and Jackie Manarel and Bettie Jane Siebler; and grandchildren Jolea, Meredith, "CJ", Cody and Tyler.
No service will be held at the request of the deceased. A private cremation is planned.

Eleanor Fisher, 79
ESCONDIDO - Eleanor L. Fisher, 79, died Thursday, June 1, 2000, at a local convalescent home.
Born March 15, 1921, in Los Angeles, she lived in Escondido for 11 years and had lived in Rancho Bernardo for 24 years. She was a homemaker for 60 years and a 35-year member of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church in Poway.
Mrs. Fisher was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Fisher, on May 6, 1978. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. and Barbara Fisher of San Diego; sisters and brothers-in-law Dorothy and Robert Branch and Jean and Abraham Toub, all of Poway; and grandson Eric Fisher.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 8, at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church in Poway, with the Rev. Ned Kellogg officiating.
The family suggests memorial donations to St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, 16275 Pomerado Road, Poway, CA 92064; or a charity of choice.

Robert Quartaro, 62
RIVERBANK - Robert Quartaro, 62, died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, of bone cancer, in Riverbank.
Born Oct. 20, 1938, in Rhode Island, he lived in Riverbank for one year. He was the owner of several Denny's franchises in California and Nevada. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was a lightweight boxing champ of the Air Force.
Mr. Quartaro is survived by his wife of 40 years, Pat Quartaro of Riverbank; sons Gino Quartaro of Riverbank, Anthony Quartaro of Lathrop, Robert Quartaro of Temecula and Mario Quartaro of Norco; daughter Lisa LaManna of Dublin; brother Arturo Quartaro of Pala Reservation; sister Louise Fortin of Warren, R.I.; and grandchildren Robert and Roger.

Preston McNutt, 82
SAN MARCOS - Preston Lee McNutt, 82, died Friday, June 2, 2000, at Scripps Green in La Jolla.
Born Nov. 7, 1917, in Fort Worth, Texas, he lived in San Marcos for 11 years. He was a self-employed contractor and investor for more than 60 years and a member of the Lake San Marcos Golf Club.
Mr. McNutt was preceded in death by his wife of 27 years, Eileen McNutt of San Marcos; sons Lee McNutt of San Gabriel and Craig McNutt of Oklahoma; stepson Richard Showler of Yorba Linda; daughter Paula McKay of Claremont; stepdaughter Susan Showler of Irvine; brother Ed McNutt of Florida; sisters Bertie Charles of Nevada, Lois Richardson of San Moreno, Beth Tiden of Chino and Delores Donnelly of Rancho Bernardo; and grandchildren Nicole, Shawna, David, Erin, Adam, Alex and Richie.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, June 8, at Lake San Marcos Recreation Lodge. A private cremation is planned.
The family suggests memorial donations to the Rancho Coastal Humane Society, 389 Requeza, Encinitas, CA 92024.

Helen Palechek, 93
ESCONDIDO - Helen Palechek, 93, died Saturday, June 3, 2000, at Pomerado Hospital.
Born March 20, 1907, in Yugoslavia, she lived in Escondido for 40 years. She was the owner of Snack & Bottle Shop.
Mrs. Palechek was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Palechek, in 1981. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Laura Palechek of San Diego; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 10, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary Chapel, with the Rev. Richard Huls officiating. A private inurnment will take place at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

John Shafer, 43
EVERETT, Wash. - John Douglas Shafer, 43, died Saturday, May 20, 2000, at his home.
Born Aug. 23, 1956, in Orange, he previously lived in Escondido. He was a 2974 graduate of San Pasqual High School and worked for Sears for 22 years before retiring. He was working for Valspar.
Mr. Shafer is survived by his mother and father, Betty and Robert Shafer; brother Tom Shafer; and sister Julie Landau of Coupeville, Wash.
A memorial service was held Friday, May 26, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Everett. Burial took place at Evergreen Cemetery in Everett.
The family suggests memorial donations to the American Heart Association, 225 Broadway, Suite 310, San Diego, CA 92101; or Make-A-Wish Foundation, 6000 Cornerstone Court, San Diego, CA 92121.

John Skarra, 58
PORTLAND, Ore. - John P. Skarra, 58, died Thursday, June 1, 2000, of a heart attack, in Oregon City, Ore.
Born Nov. 15, 1941, in Wyoming, he lived in Portland and had lived in Vista for three years. He was the owner of a trucking firm and served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Skarra was preceded in death by his father, Perry E. Skarra, in June 1982. He is survived by his mother, Rozelle D. Skarra of Vista; daughter Bridget Skarra of Portland; brothers Dave Skarra of Beaverton, Ore., Mike Skarra and Stuart Skarra, both of Vista, and Paul Skarra of Clatskanie, Ore.; and sisters Terese Skarra of Temecula, Mary Skarra of Los Alamos, N.M., and Susan Skarra of Santa Cruz.
A memorial service will be held a a date of be determined in Portland. A private cremation is planned.

Evelyn Dean
VISTA - Evelyn Lillian Dean died Friday, June 2, 2000, at her home.
Born in Weyauwega, Wis., she lived in Vista for 43 years. She was an elementary school teacher for the Oceanside School District for 40 years and a member of the Tri-City Hospital Auxiliary Pink Ladies.
Mrs. Dean is survived by her daughters, Linda Burns of San Jose and Katherine Lambert of Lexington, Ky.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, at Allen Brothers Mortuary, Vista Chapel, with the Rev. Charles Ivans officiating. A private cremation is planned with cremains to be scattered at sea.
The family suggests memorial donations to Tri-City Hospital Auxiliary, 4002 Vista Way, Oceanside, CA 92054; or the Humane Society, 2905 San Luis Rey Road, Oceanside, CA 92054.

Edward Moore, 76
HAGERMAN, Idaho - Edward J. Moore, 76, died Thursday, June 1, 2000, in Hagerman.
Born May 16, 1924, in National City, he lived in Hagerman for three years. He was past manager and treasurer of North Catholic Credit Union in Encinitas for 20 years and served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Honolulu during World War II. He was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, Idaho Chapter, the Encinitas Rotary, the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce, and was a Harris Fellow.
Mr. Moore is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lavina Moore of Hagerman; sons and daughters-in-law Daniel and Arlee Moore of Santa Rosa, James and Emily Moore of Westwood and Geoffrey and Cindy Moore of Hailey, Idaho; daughters and sons-in-law Anna and David Werner of San Antonio, Texas, Sherry and Lloyd Ferrar of Las Vegas, Virginia and Tom Guthrie of Bellingham, Wash., and Jeanne and Andy Puleo of Penn Valley; 19 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, June 8, at St. John's Catholic Church in Encinitas.

Marian Bassford, 93
ENCINITAS - Marian Bassford, 93, died Friday, May 26, 2000, at a local hospital.
Born Oct. 24, 1906, in Clovis, she lived in Encinitas for 22 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames of America, Mayflower Society and National Cattlewomen's Association (Cowbelles).
Mrs. Bassford is survived by her husband of 70 years, Forrest Bassford of Encinitas; daughters Marilyn Bassford of La Habra and Karen Kaytes of Encinitas; son and daughter-in-law Dale and Brenda Bassford of Memphis, Tenn.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 10, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Encinitas.
The family suggests memorial donations to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 890 Balour Drive, Encinitas, CA 92024.

Mary Ellison, 68
ESCONDIDO - Mary June Ellison, 68, died Friday, June 2, 2000.
Born June 22, 1931, in Hollywood, she lived in Escondido for almost two years. She had lived in Valley Center for 22 years. She operated the Happy Valley Preschool in Valley Center for more than 10 years.
Mrs. Ellison is survived by her husband, Jim Ellison of Escondido; daughters Julie Ellison of Escondido and Bonnie Pearson of Oakland; and son Shawn Ellison of Escondido sister Ethel Anderson of Fallbrook; and eight grandchildren.
A private service was held.

Roger Hoover, 49
LARGS, Scotland - Roger D. Hoover, 49, died Thursday, March 30, 2000, in Largs, Scotland.
Born Feb. 23, 1951, in Fallbrook, he lived in Largs. He was a 1969 graduate of Fallbrook High School and served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years before retiring.
Mr. Hoover is survived by his wife of 27 years, Jackie Hoover of Largs; mother Lona Hoover of Fallbrook; son Stephen Hoover of Largs; daughter Shannon Hoover of Largs; brothers William Hoover and Tim Hoover; and sister Glenda Harris.
A funeral service was held Friday, April 7, at St. John's Church in Largs. A family memorial service was held Friday, June 2, in Fallbrook. Burial will take place off the coast of California.
