Born Sept. 16, 1911, in Westfalen, Germany, she lived in Oceanside for 15 years.
Ms. Lang is survived by her sister, Marie Attwater of Oceanside.

Blanca Galvan, 90
VISTA - Blanca Galvan, 90, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, in Vista.
Born April 30, 1909, in Mexico, she lived in Vista for three years.
Mrs. Galvan was preceded in death by her husband, Ernesto Galvan, in 1999; and her son, Robert Galvan, in 1978. She is survived by her sons, Ernest Galvan Jr. of Converse, Texas, Henry Galvan and Ed Galvan, both of Vista, Joe Galvan of Seattle, and Fred Galvan of Oceanside; sister Pura Mueller of San Antonio, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park, with the Rev. A. Berry Jones officiating.

John Patterson, 66
SAN MARCOS - John Milton Patterson, 66, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, in San Diego.
Born Oct. 30, 1933, in Iowa, he lived in San Marcos for two months. He worked for Pacific Gas & Electric, retiring in 1995, and served in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Patterson is survived by his wife of 11 years, Colleen P. Patterson of San Marcos; sons Michael Patterson and Wayne Patterson, both of San Mateo, and Danny Patterson of Hawaii; daughter Colleen Serlis of Bryte; brother Don Patterson of Iowa; sisters Carol Greenfield and Norma Patterson, both of Iowa; and five grandchildren.
A private cremation is planned.

Virginia Olson, 88
SAN MARCOS - Virginia Cecelia Olson, 88, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, at a local hospital.
Born Jan. 15, 1911, in San Francisco, she lived in San Marcos and Vista for 30 years. She was a homemaker for 68 years.
Mrs. Olson was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon R. Olson, in 1996. She is survived by her sons, Gustav Arthur Hopkins of Valley Center; David Harold Hopkins of Escondido, Ronald Roy Carlton of San Marcos, and Forrest Eugene Carlton of Mesa, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A private interment will take place at Riverside National Cemetery.

Jeffrey Gearheart, 49
SAN MARCOS - Jeffrey Wayne Gearheart, 49, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, in San Marcos.
Born Sept. 1, 1950, in Dayton, Ohio, he lived in San Marcos for 27 years. He was an accountant and financial officer for McMahan's Furniture for 20 years and was a member of the Sierra Club and Nature Conservancy and the Redwood Society.
Mr. Gearheart was preceded in death by his father, Emerson Gearheart in 1996; and his mother, Vivian Gearheart, in 1998. He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Deborah Sue of San Marcos; son Dylan Gearheart of San Marcos; daughter Kelly Gearheart of San Marcos; and brother and sister-in-law Timothy and Katy Gearheart of Daytona Beach, Fla.
A celebration of life will be scheduled in late January. Inurnment is planned.

ESCONDIDO - Mirla Bice Hale, 93, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, at her home in Escondido.
Born Dec. 11, 1906, in Birney, she lived in Escondido for four years and in Vista for 64 years. She was a teacher, bookkeeper and homemaker. She was a member of the Community Church in Vista, the Vista Historical Society and the Vista Women's Club.
Mrs. Hale is survived by her son, Gordon J. Bice of Escondido; stepsons Lee Bice of Grass Valley and Donald Bice of San Diego; daughter Nancy B. Coleman of Carlsbad; stepdaughters Ardys Baldwin of Vista and Tudie McDaniel of McNeal, Ariz.; and 17 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. today, Jan. 4, at Allen Brothers, Vista Chapel, with the Rev. Mark Lybarger officiating. Burial will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

SAN MARCOS - Francisco Sanchez Rivera, 60, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, in Escondido.
Born July 27, 1939, in Tamuning, Guam, he lived in San Marcos for 12 years. He worked for the government of Guam.
Mr. Rivera is survived by his wife of 27 years, Maria T. Rivera of San Marcos; sons Francisco S. Rivera Jr. and Mark A. Rivera, both of San Marcos; daughter Mary Ann Claros of San Marcos; sisters Mildred Camacho and Josephine Mesa, both of Guam; and granddaughter Beatrice Claros of San Marcos.
Viewing will be held at 9 a.m., with a rosary recited at 9:30 a.m. today, Jan. 4, at St. Mark's Catholic Church in San Marcos, with the Rev. Birch officiating. RAMONA - William "Bill" A. Lake, 79, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at his home.
Born Aug. 17, 1920, in Chicago, he lived in Ramona for 16 years. He served in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant commander during World War II and was a flight instructor. He was an airline pilot for PSA for 25 years and was a horse breeder with 4 Lakes Arabians.
Mr. Lake was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Kleo M. Lake, in 1996. He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Sheri and Grant McNiff and Joy Morytko; and five grandchildren.
Viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. today, with the funeral service at 11 a.m., both at the Ramona United Methodist Church. The Rev. J.T. Greenleaf will officiate. Entombment will follow at 2 p.m. at El Camino Memorial Park.

Mrs. Greene was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Greene, on June 8, 1992; and one son. She is survived by her son and daughters-in-law, Bob and Christine Greene of Arizona and Ellie Greene of Oceanside; daughter Linda Tucker of Towanda; brother and sister-in-law George and Jo Ann Sick of Peoria, Ill.; sister and brother-in-law Hazel and George Malchow of Peoria; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Robert Stemper, 75
MURRIETA - Robert Alfred Stemper Sr., 75, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at his home in Murrieta.
Born July 14, 1924, in Dayton, Ohio, he lived in Murrieta for two years. He was the owner/president of C.N. Stemper Co., retiring in 1982 after 70 years. He served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant from 1942 to 1946.
Mr. Stemper is survived by his wife, Marjorie Stemper of Murrieta; son and daughter-in-law Robert A. Jr. and Lauree Stemper of Libertyville, Ill.; daughter and son-in-law Cynthia Stemper Light and D.C. David Light of Murrieta; and three grandchildren.

Mrs. Bangert is survived by her husband of Murrieta; son Tom Bangert of Illinois; daughters Pam Bangert of Illinois and Candice Williams of Murrieta; and four grandchildren.

Born Nov. 5, 1909, in Temecula, he lived in Temecula for 90 years. He was a farmer for 65 years.
Mr. Roripaugh is survived by his wife, Marian Roripaugh of Temecula; son Jack Roripaugh of Temecula; daughter June Roripaugh Tull of Temecula; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Gomez is survived by her husband of 33 years, Salvador Gomez of Vista; daughters Maria De Lourdes Delgado of Anaheim and Veronica Hernandez of Vista; brothers Pedro Santana of Vista, Heriberto Santana of Tecolotlan, Mexico, and Lorenzo Santana of Fallbrook; sisters Maria Santana of Oceanside and Elena Santana of Ayotitlan, Mexico; and grandchildren Danny Vital, Anissa Delgado, Luis Hernandez and Marissa Delgado.

Born Nov. 3, 1963, in Oceanside, she lived in Escondido for 20 years and in San Jacinto for six months.
Mrs. Maddox is survived by her mother and father, Barbara and Robert Martin of San Jacinto; sons Joshua Jackson, Jeremy Jackson and Allen Quigley, all of San Jacinto, and Ernie Val Verde of Escondido; daughters Cynthia Martinez and Naomi Val Verde, both of San Jacinto, and Shantel Maddox of Escondido; brothers Kenneth Martin and Robert Martin Jr., both of San Jacinto; and sister Tammie Walthers of San Jacinto.

Born Aug. 26, 1924, in Oakland, she lived in Leucadia for more than 50 years. She was a volunteer for Community Resource Center for more than 10 years.
Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Rogers, in 1994. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David F. and Dorothy Mitchell of Escondido; sister Carol McGrath of Las Vegas; grandchildren Todd Mitchell and Garrett Mitchell; and great-grandchildren Todd Jr., Maria, Jake Mitchell, Cristel and Mitchell Scott.

ESCONDIDO - Thornton "Fitz" Fitzhugh, 84, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at Palomar Medical Center.
Born Aug. 15, 1915, in Phoenix, he lived in Escondido for 84 years. He was a field engineer for Imperial Valley Irrigation District before retiring after 37 years. He was a volunteer for the Adult Literacy Program, Phoenix Library System and a first-aid instructor for the American Red Cross in El Centro.
Mr. Fitzhugh is survived by his daughters, Carol Ann Fitzhugh of Colorado and Edna Mae Harris of San Diego; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, at McLeod Mortuary, Escondido Chapel, with the Rev. Paul Kugler officiating. A private cremation is planned.
