ESCONDIDO - Josephine Stoner, 77, died Thursday, June 14, 2001, at Charter Surburban Hospital in Paramount.
Born March 19, 1924, in Escondido, she lived in Escondido for 13 years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Stoner was preceded in death by her husband, Bertrom L. Stoner, in 1983. She is survived by son Jose Canales of San Jose; daughters Barbara A. Stoner of Long Beach, Lorraine Moss of Long Beach, Cecilia Rabang of Vallejo and Jean Espinoza of Bellflower; brothers Mike Valdez of Escondido and Pascual Paredes of Escondido; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, at Calvary Assembly with the Rev. Floyd Freeman officiating. A private interment is planned at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Peter "Andy" Anderson, 86
OCEANSIDE - Peter "Andy" Anderson, 86, died Friday, June 15, 2001.
Born Nov. 8, 1914, in Scotland, he lived in Oceanside for 20 years. He retired in 1980 from Continental Airlines. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Ocean Wavers Club.
Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife of 60 years, Christine Anderson of Oceanside.
Interment will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 21, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park Memory Garden.

Patricia Wallace, 75
VISTA - Patricia "Pat" J. Wallace, 75, died Thursday, June 14, at her home after a brief illness.
Born Sept. 22, 1925, in Sioux City, Iowa, she lived in Vista for 27 years. She was a broker and had owned Patricia Wallace Realty. She had a pilot's license and was the chairperson of the 99s Flying Organization in Tulsa, Okla., in the 1960s. She served as the president of the Vista Board of Realtors in 1991. She enjoyed bridge, cribbage and bingo.
Mrs. Wallace was preceded in death by her uncle, Earl Eckstrom. She is survived by her son, Wesley Bauer of Tulsa; daughter Barbara Tackett of Paradise; sister Barbara Preston of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two nieces; and two nephews.
A celebration of Pat's life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, at the Vista Del Mar clubhouse.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations in Pat's memory to the Arthritis Foundation, 9089 Clairemont Mesa Blvd., Suite 300, San Diego, CA 92123 or the American Heart Association, 3640 Fifth Ave., San Diego, CA 92103.

Shirley Olson, 62
OCEAN HILLS - Shirley J. Olson, 62, died Thursday, June 14, 2001, at her home.
Born March 1, 1939, in Fairchild, Wis., she lived in Ocean Hills for six years. She was a retired nurse. She was a member of the Ocean Hills Ballroom Dance Club, Ocean Hills Choral, Ocean Hills Theater Arts, Inland Master Chorale, Redland, and a special music director at Banning Nazarene Church. She enjoyed music and played the clarinet.
Mrs. Olson was preceded in death by her brother, Rudy Pingel, in 1999. She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Willis "Bill" Olson of Oceanside; and son and daughter-in-law Mark and Dawn Jenson of Greenfield, Minn.
A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, June 22, at New Venture Christian Fellowship in Oceanside. Interment icon will be at a later date in Wisconsin.

Donald Roche, 80
LAKE SAN MARCOS - Donald James Roche, 80, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, in Escondido Care Center in Escondido of complications of a stroke.
Born April 20, 1921, in Campus, Ill., he lived in Lake San Marcos for 18 years and in California since 1978. He had been a newspaper publisher and retired in 1978. He and his brother ran Schutz Publishing House where they published five papers. He served as mayor of Emington, Ill., for 17 years. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, stationed in the China-Burma-Inda zones and received the Silver Cross. He flew the HUMP. He was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church and served as a Eucharist minister. He was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus and was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Lake San Marcos. He also delivered Meals on Wheels for several years.
Mr. Roche was preceded in death by his brother, Leo H. Roche, on Jan. 17, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janet M. Roche of Lake San Marcos; daughters and sons-in-law Donna and Josef Frisella of Leona Valley, Kathleen and Bill Kallas of Pontiac, Ill., Diane and Wes Rothrock of Frankfort, Ill., and Karen and Daho Archi of Everett, Wash.; sister Bernice Stahler of Odell, Ill., Irene "Daah" Franey of Chatsworth, Ill., and Lucille Guest of Naperville, Ill.; grandchildren Julie van Uchelen, Angela Hahs, Deborah Adcock, Kristina Wright, Jeffrey Kallas, Amy Rothrock, Chad Rothrock, Ryan Rothrock, Trisha Rothrock, Heather Archi, Adam Archi and Lisa Archi; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, June 22, at St. Mark's Catholic Church in San Marcos with the Rev. Burt Boudoin officiating. Further services and burial will take place at Round Grove Cemetery in Rural Campus, Ill.

Madaline Russell, 71
ESCONDIDO - Madaline Florestine Russell, 71, died Friday, June 15, 2001, at her home.
Born March 23, 1930, in Weston, W.Va., she lived in Escondido for 27 years. She retired in 1998, as an instructional aide from the Escondido Union School District.
Mrs. Russell was preceded in death by her husband, Vivian Rupert Albaugh Jr., in 1972. She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Kenneth C. Russell of Escondido; sons and daughter-in-law Steve Albaugh of Lawton, Okla., and Stan and Brenda Albaugh of Alexandria, Va.; daughters and son-in-law Sharon Jackson of San Marcos and Susan and John Romero of Escondido; brother Charles Tinney of Valley Bend, W.Va.; sisters Eula Rust and Mary Higgins, both of Winona Lake, Ind.; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Visitation and viewing wash held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 18 at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today, June 19, at The Church of God in Escondido with the Rev. J.G. Romero officiating. Interment icon will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier.

Dorothy Mastrangelo, 89
ESCONDIDO - Dorothy Mastrangelo, 89, died Sunday, June 17, 2001, in Escondido.
Born June 28, 1911, in Pittsburgh, Pa., she lived in Escondido for 22 years. She had been a teacher for the Diocese of Rockville Center, N.Y.
Mrs. Mastrangelo was preceded in death by her son, Christopher Mastrangelo, in 2000. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Nicholas Mastrangelo of Escondido; sons Nicholas Mastrangelo Jr. of Marysville, Frederick Mastrangelo of Oceanside and Francis Mastrangelo of Bellview, Wash.; daughters Ann Nardi of Sacramento, Mary Knapp of Santa Fe, N.M., Regina Mastrangelo of San Diego and Marilyn Moore of Leroy, Ala.; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Viewing is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. and rosary recited at 7 p.m. today, June 19, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary with the Legion of Mary officiating. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, at The Church of the Resurrection with the Rev. Chuck Fuld officiating. Interment icon will follow at San Luis Rey Mission Cemetery in Oceanside.

Charles Benson, 88
VISTA - Charles Sylvester Benson, 88, died Saturday, June 15, 2001, at his home.
Born Jan. 17, 1913, in Emmons County, N.D., he lived in Vista for 30 years. He was a civil engineer with the F.A.A. for 30 years.
Mr. Benson was preceded in death by his wife, M. Josephine Benson in 1991. He is survived by his wife of eight years, Kathleen "Kay" Benson of Vista; brother Arthur Benson of Bismark, N.D.; and sister Alice Irene Huelskamp of Billings, Mont.
A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, at Allen Bros. Mortuary, Vista Chapel, with the Rev. Tom Straeter of Grace Presbyterian Church officiating. A private cremation is planned.
The family suggests memorial donations in his memory to a charity of choice.

Lee Andrew Dabbs, 95
OCEANSIDE - Lee Andrew Dabbs, 95, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at his home.
Born Aug. 26, 1905, in Mississippi, he lived in Oceanside for 55 years. He retired in 1969 from the Oceanside Water Department after 23 years. He was a member of the Walker AME Church. He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II from 1942 to 1945.
Mr. Dabbs was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Dabbs on July 15, 1998. He is survived by his great-niece, Dolores Williams and great-nephew James Williams, both of Oceanside.
Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 21, at Eternal Hills Mortuary. A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, June 23, at Walker AME Church.

Elizabeth Marshall, 84
VISTA - Elizabeth L. "Betty" Marshall, 84, died Saturday, June 9, 2001, of natural causes.
Born April 17, 1917, in Kingman, Kan., she lived in Vista for 22 years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Marshall was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Marshall on Feb. 7, 1993. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Tom and Susan Coughlin of Fallbrook; stepson James Marshall of Long Beach; and grandchildren Ryan Coughlin and Patrick Coughlin.
No services will be held at the request of the deceased. A private cremation is planned.

Roy Young, 83
SAN MARCOS - Roy Joseph Young, 83, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at Las Villas del Norte in Escondido.
Born Nov. 22, 1917, in New Orleans, he lived in San Marcos for 15 years. He retired in 1976 from North American Aviation where he was a machinist for 30 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Young was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Young in 1976. He is survived by his son, Gregory T. Young of Pomona; daughter Arlene Fisher of Mesa, Ariz.; brother Walter Young of Dubuque, Iowa; and sister Yvonne Riccol of New Orleans.
A private family graveside service is planned. Interment icon at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier.

Winifred Benton, 90
RIDGECREST - Winifred "Winnie" Benton, 90, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at Beverly Manor of natural causes.
She was born on Oct. 14, 1910, in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Mrs. Benton was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Mickie Benton Sr.; sisters Edna Laughlin and Juneau Noake; and brother Olin Laughlin. She is survived by her son Mickie Benton Jr. and daughter-in-law Billie Benton of Ridgecrest; grandson Mick Benton III of Ridgecrest; granddaughter Beverly Clark of Poway; and two great-granddaughters.
At the request of the family, there will be no services. Private cremation arrangements were provided by Holland and Lyons Mortuary in Ridgecrest.

William Bradley, 68
ELY, Minn. - William A. "Bill" Bradley, 68, died Wednesday, June 13, 2001, in Ely-Bloomenson Hospital.
Born July 7, 1932, in Minneapolis, he lived in Ely since 1994. He was a woodcarver and outdoorsman. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a mechanical engineer designer for Rockwell International in Newport Beach and International Totalizator in Carlsbad for 30 years.
Mr. Bradley was preceded in death by his father of William O. Bradley. He is survived by his wife, July Bradley of Ely; mother Nettie Bradley of Oceanside; sons and daughters-in-law Kevin and Bonnie of Blaine, Minn., Mark and Cindy of Vista; Jay and Robin of Oceanside and Mark of Carpenteria; daughter and son-in-law Krista and David Lynch of Kapaa, Hawaii; brothers and sisters-in-law Marvin and Barbara of Oceanside and Jim and Carol Bradley of Bloomington, Minn.; and 10 grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. today, June 19, at United Methodist Church in Ely with the Rev. Dana Thompson officiating.

Griffin Phillips, 51
ESCONDIDO - Griffin F. Phillips, 51, died Thursday, June 14, 2001.
Born Dec. 30, 1949, in Illinois, he lived in Escondido for one year and in San Diego for 10 years. He was a manager at Horton Grand Hotel in San Diego.
Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Rademacher in 1976. He is survived by his stepfather, Peter Rademacher of Escondido; brothers Peter Rademacher II of Wilson, N.Y., Curtis Rademacher of Phoenix and Thomas Rademacher of Hollister; sister Jennifer Bielasz of Escondido; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private cremation and family services are planned.
The family suggests memorial donations to the San Francisco Aids Foundation, 995 Market St., No. 200, San Francisco, CA 94103.

William Ulman, 86
ESCONDIDO - William J. Ulman, 86, died Wednesday, June 13, 2001, at Palomar Medical Center of heart and renal failure.
Born Sept. 17, 1914, in San Bernardino, he lived in Escondido for 47 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a teacher in Redland and in Escondido for 20 years at Escondido High School. He retired in 1974 and then served as president on the board of trustees of the Escondido High School District. He owned a 10 acre avocado grove since 1956.
Mr. Ulman was preceded in death by his daughter, Judith A. Peeples, in 1997. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jean W. Ulman of Escondido; son and daughter-in-law Gudrun Ulman of Escondido; son-in-law Gary Peeples of Escondido; and grandchildren Erik Ulman, and Brian and Amanda Peeples.
A private cremation and scattering is planned.

Dawn C. Beckett, 25
RICHMOND, Ky. - Dawn C. Beckett, 25, lost her life in an automobile accident in Lexington, Ky., on Thursday, June 14, 2001.
Born in Escondido on Feb. 16, 1976, Dawn was a youth minister of the Bible and a student at the University of Kentucky at Richmond. Dawn leaves behind her mother, Lynn Lindsey and brother Jason Beckett, both of Lexington. She leaves her father and step-mother, Bill and Lisa Beckett; brother AJ; sisters Molly and Lexi; and grandmother Theresa, all of Escondido. Dawn also leaves a multitude of aunts, uncles and cousins (the Pattersons and Becketts) across the country. Dawn was preceded in death by her step-father, Tom Damrel and her grandfather, Robert Beckett.
Memorial services were held in Lexington on Monday, June 18, and will be followed by a private interment at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Escondido.
A potluck gathering for anyone wishing to share in a celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 23, at Grape Day Park in Escondido.
Dawn's family suggests memorial donations in her name to the Hume Lake Scholarship Fund at Emmanuel Faith Community Church, 639 E. Felicita Ave., Escondido, CA 92025.

Bonnie Miller, 56
TEMECULA - Bonnie Faye Miller, 56, died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at Palomar Medical Center.
Born Dec. 17, 1944, in Gettysburg, Pa., she lived in Temecula for eight years. She was a registered nurse at Palomar Medical Center for 30 years. She had worked in Hawaii Kaiser-Permanente Clinic in Oahu, Hawaii, as a case manager geriatric specialist, and had been a public health nurse in Northern California. She graduated from the University of Hawaii with a registered nurse and bachelor's degrees. She graduated from Chambersburg, Pa., as a LVN.
Ms. Miller is survived by her father, J. Harold Miller of Corona; brother and sister-in-law Ronald and Cheryl Miller of Riverside; twin sister Barbara Price-Dunkelberger of Escondido; aunt Nancy Jane Aiken of Oklahoma; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private family services are planned.

ESCONDIDO - Esther Decker, 82, died Sunday, June 10, 2001, at her home of natural causes.
Born April 20, 1919, in Loup City, Neb., she lived in Escondido for 33 years. She worked for San Diego Gas and Electric for 22 years, in a clerical position.
Mrs. Decker was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd H. Decker, in 1976.
A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, June 21, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Earl Guy officiating. A private burial will take place at El Camino Memorial Park.
