FALLBROOK - William G. Jungenberg, 68, died Monday, June 18, 2001, at Palomar Hospital.
Born Jan. 11, 1933, in Kohler, Wis., he lived in Fallbrook for 30 years. He retired in 1990 from the U.S. Navy as a first class petty officer. He was a member of St. Peterıs Catholic Church and past Grand Knight of Columbus, 4th degree. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Naval Reserve and Boots and Slippers.
Mr. Jungenberg is survived by his wife of 44 years, Carmen Jungenberg of Fallbrook; sons and daughter-in-law Mike Jungenberg of Fallbrook, Jeff Jungenberg of Tigard, Ore., and Tim and Sheri Jungenberg of Simi Valley; brother Robert Jungenberg of Florida, Mickey and Gerry Jungenberg of Redgranite, Wis., and James Jungenberg of Pannama; grandchildren Chris, Jennie, Kellie and Anton.
A memorial service is scheduled for 7 p.m. today, June 21, at Berry Bell & Hall Mortuary. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, June 22, at St. Peterıs Catholic Church with the Rev. Mel officiating. Burial will follow at noon at Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Oceanside with the Rev. Mel officiating.

Gabriel Ortiz, 56
OCEANSIDE - Gabriel Oceguera Ortiz, 56, died Monday, June 18, 2001, at Tri-City Medical Center of complications from cancer.
Born March 14, 1945, in Michoacan, Mexico, he lived in Oceanside for 34 years. He worked in maintenance with mission restoration at the Mission San Luis Rey for 34 years.
Mr. Ortiz was preceded in death by his mother, Refugio Oceguera Ortiz, in 1999. He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Tina Ortiz of Oceanside; father Jose Ortiz of Oceanside; son and daughter-in-law Gabriel Jr. and Jennifer Ortiz of Albuquerque, N.M.; daughters and sons-in-law Veronica and Joey Betancourt, Lourdes and Hugo Chavez and Brianna Ortiz, all of Oceanside; brothers Jorge Ortiz of Mexico, Manuel Ortiz of Fullerton, Enrique Ortiz of Vista, Benjamin Ortiz of Oceanside, Andres Ortiz of Oceanside and Jose Ortiz of Mexico; sisters Mercedes Ortiz, Elena Ortiz-Linares and Enriqueta Ortiz, all of Mexico; and grandchildren Isabella and Julian Betancourt and Gabriela, Elisabeth and Rachel Ortiz.
Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. with rosary recited at 7 p.m. today, June 21, at Oceanside Mortuary Chapel. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, June 22, at Mission San Luis Rey with the Rev. Vincent Hughes officiating. Interment icon will follow. A reception will follow in the mission garden.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations in Gabrielıs name to the Mission San Luis Rey Restoration Fund, 4050 Mission Ave., Oceanside, CA 92057.

Librada Mercado, 87
VISTA - Librada Mercado, 87, died Sunday, June 17, 2001.
Born Oct. 24, 1913, in Douglas, Ariz., she lived in Vista for 70 years. She was a volunteer at the Salvation Army and a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church.
Ms. Mercado is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Ralph and Arlene Martinez of Vista; daughter and son-in-law MaryAnn and Carlos Garza of N. Las Vegas; brother Joe Mercado of Carlsbad; sisters and brothers-in-law Mary and Martin Rojas of Vista and Isabel and Max Gray of Oceanside; grandchildren Maryann, Tony, Monica, Michael, Mitchell, Brenda and Darrin; and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 22, at St. Francis Church. A private cremation is planned.
The family suggests memorial donations to the Salvation Army, 1301 Las Villas Way, Escondido, CA 92025.

OCEANSIDE - Michael W. V. North, 55, died Thursday, June 14, 2001.
He was born May 18, 1946, in London, England.
A memorial service is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, June 22, at the Cavalier Mobile Home Estates Clubhouse.

Helen Hickey, 54
CARLSBAD - Helen M. Hickey, 54, died Monday, June 18, 2001, at her home of cancer.
She was born Aug. 13, 1946, in Connecticut, and lived in Carlsbad for more than 30 years. She was raised in Northwest Iowa by her grandparents. She was a Realtor and owned her own bookkeeping business.
Mrs. Hickey was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Hickey Feb. 20, 1983, and her parents, Everett and Gywnne Morris Brill. She is survived by her son, Christopher Hickey of Florida; and former husband, Chris Streeter of Florida; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A service to honor her life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 22, at Carlsbad Community Church. Her cremains will be returned to the Iowa family farm.
The family suggests memorial donations to Carlsbad Community Church, 3175 Harding St., Carlsbad, CA 92008, the Hospice of the North Coast, 5421 Avenida Encinas, Suite N, Carlsbad, CA 92008 or a charity of choice.

Frank Madrid, 73
MURRIETA - Frank C. Madrid, 73, died Monday, June 18, 2001.
Born Aug. 21, 1927, in Oceanside, he lived in Murrieta for eight years. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was a member of the Elks Club.
Mr. Madrid was preceded in death by his brothers, Daniel and Mike Madrid. He is survived by his stepdaughter, Tracey; brother and sister-in-law John and Genevieve Madrid; sisters and brothers-in-law Ruth and Charlie Barnhart and Beatrice and Eddie Perez; three grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 24, at Eternal Hills Mortuary Chapel. A Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 25, at St. Maryıs Star of the Sea Church with the Rev. John Dolan officiating. Interment icon will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park with the Rev. Dolan officiating.

Ida Mahoney, 89
NORTH COUNTY - Ida C. Mahoney, 89, died Thursday, June 14, 2001, at Tri-City Medical Center.
Born June 24, 1911, in Sargans, Switzerland, she lived in North San Diego County for 59 years.
Mrs. Mahoney was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph T. Mahoney, in 1976. She is survived by her son, Dick Mahoney of Canada; daughter Nancy Chotiner of Centerville, Va.; grandchildren Renee Pisani and Julie Siler; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 18, at Eternal Hills Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. David Plank officiating.

Rose Keil, 94
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Rose Miller Keil, 94, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at Heritage Manor Jewish Home for the aged, of infirmities of old age.
Born Dec. 25, 1906, in Newark, N.J., she lived in Youngstown for three years. She had lived in Oceanside for 24 years.
She graduated from Central High School in Newark and attended the Newark Institute of Arts and Sciences. She won the speed typewriting contest at the New York Worldıs Fair in 1939. She had been an executive secretary and supervisor of communications for Empire Blue Cross Blue Shied of New York for 32 years and retired in 1972. She was a member of Rodef Sholom Temple.
Mrs. Keil was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph S. Keil in 1970, and three sisters. She is survived by her sister, Celia Berkman of Hollywood, Fla.; nephews, Cary F. Yelin and his wife Sora of Youngstown and Sanford Rachmiel of New Port Richie, Fla.; niece Sharon Jones of Warren, N.J.; and grandson Joshua of Cincinnati.
A funeral service was held at noon on Monday, June 18, at Shriver-Allison-Courtley with Rabbi Frank Muller officiating. Interment icon was at 9 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, at Beth El Cemetery in Neptune, N.J.
The family suggests memorial donations to the Heritage Manor, 517 Gypsy Lane, Youngstown, Ohio 44504.

Ronald Hoebeck, Jr., 41
ESCONDIDO - Ronald James ³Jim² Hoebeck Jr., 41, died Thursday, June 14, 2001.
Born June 16, 1959, in Whidby Island, Wash., he lived in Escondido for one year. He worked as a senior lab engineer for Anzus, Inc. for two years.
Mr. Hoebeck is survived by his wife of one year, Julie A. Hoebeck of Escondido; mother Jean Hoebeck of Escondido; father Ronald J. Hoebeck Sr. of Jacumba; sons Ronald James Hoebeck III and Shawn Anthony Hoebeck, both of Rancho Bernardo; stepson Brandyn Young of Escondido; stepdaughter Jessica Young of Escondido; brother Jeff Hoebeck of Escondido; and sister La Donna Hoebeck of Lakeside.
Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, June 25, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary Chapel. A prayer service will follow at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Leopoldo Valdivia officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Alhiser-Comer Mortuary is handling arrangements.

Fred Borns, 67
OCEANSIDE - Fred D. Borns, 67, died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at his home of cancer.
Born June 12, 1933, in South Shore, S.D., he lived in Oceanside for five years. He retired after 40 years from Brown Clinic. He was a member of Kings of Kings Lutheran Church.
Mr. Borns was preceded in death by his father, Fred Borns, in 1984 and mother Elsie Borns, in 1992. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Borns of Oceanside; sons and daughter-in-law Daniel R. Borns of Phoenix and Fred ³Doug² G. and Pam Borns of Watertown, S.D.; daughters and son-in-law Kathleen A. and Joe Taylor of Carlsbad and Bia Carvolha of Belo Horzonte, Brazil; sister Marella Borns Ruesink; and grandchildren Grant and Ryan Borns and Joseph and Kristen Taylor.
Visitation was held Monday, June 11, at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown with the Rev. Greg Olson officiating. A memorial service is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. Sunday, June 24, at Kings of Kingıs Lutheran Church with the Revs. Dave Kupka and Doug Knutson Keller officiating. Burial was held at 1 p.m. June 12, at Mt. Hope in Watertown.

Joseph Herrera, 42
ESCONDIDO - Joseph Herrera, 42, died Monday, June 11, 2001, of natural causes.
Born Nov. 8, 1958, in Hayword, he lived in Escondido for six years. He was a hairstylist for 22 years.
Mr. Herrera is survived by his brothers, Ramiro A. Herrera of Murrieta, Phillip R. Herrera of El Cajon, Alex I. Herrera of Bullhead City, Ariz., and Victor A. Herrera of Las Vegas; and sister Angelina P. Herrera of Escondido.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. today, June 21, at Jesmondene Park. A private cremation is planned.

Karl Koch, 87
FALLBROOK - Karl Koch, 87, died Sunday, June 17, 2001.
Born Jan. 19, 1914, in Yugoslavia, he lived in Fallbrook for six years.
He was retired as a machinist from Lockheed Aircraft. He had been a member of the machinistıs union and St. Peterıs Catholic Church.
Mr. Koch was preceded in death by his wife, Katharina Koch, in 1998.
He is survived by his sons, Stefan Koch of Northridge and Karl M. Koch of San Diego; and four grandchildren.
A Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, at St. Peterıs Catholic Church with the Rev. Mel Young officiating.
Burial followed at 1 p.m. at Mission San Luis Rey Cemetery in Oceanside with the Rev. Paul Lee officiating.

Helen Ivec, 83
SUN CITY - Helen Rose Ivec, 83, died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at Menifee Valley Medical Center.
Born Jan. 3, 1918, in Cleveland, Ohio, she lived in Sun City for 28 years. She was the owner of Greenmont Lane Bowling Alley in Ohio for 17 years. He was a parishioner of St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church and was a member of the North Golf Course. She enjoyed golfing, bowling and dancing at the Civic Center in Sun City.
Mrs. Ivec is survived by her husband of 46 years, Joseph Ivec of Sun City.

Effie Edwards, 86
MURRIETA - Effie Leila Edwards, 86, died Friday, June 15, 2001, at Beverly Healthcare of Murrieta.
Born Nov. 21, 1914, in Burley, Idaho, she lived in Murrieta for six years and in San Fernando for 60 years. She had worked for the city of San Fernando as a city clerk for 28 years. She was past president of the San Fernando Business and Professional Women's Club. She enjoyed gold, ceramics, porcelain dolls, reading and studying the Scriptures.
Mrs. Edwards is survived by her daughter, Marian Trout of Murrieta; brother Perry Harris of San Fernando; grandsons Michael Trout of Murrieta, Richard Trout of Riverside and Kenneth of Spring, Texas; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, June 23, at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints in Sylmar. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Chatsworth.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations in her name to the Selerderma Society.

Bonnie Miller, 56
TEMECULA - Bonnie Faye Miller, 56, died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at Palomar Medical Center.
Born Dec. 17, 1944, in Gettysburg, Pa., she lived in Temecula for eight years. She was a registered nurse for 30 years and at Palomar Medical Center for three years. She had worked in Hawaii. Kaiser-Permanente Clinic in Oahu, Hawaii as a case manager geriatric specialist, and had been a public health nurse in Northern California. She graduated from the University of Hawaii with a registered nurse and bachelor's degrees. She graduated from Chambersburg, Pa., as an LVN.
Ms. Miller is survived by her father, J. Harold Miller of Corona; brother and sister-in-law Ronald and Cheryl Miller of Riverside; twin sister Barbara Price-Dunkelberger and her husband Richard Dunkelberger of Escondido; aunt Nancy Jane Aiken of Oklahoma; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private family services are planned.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations to the Elizabeth Hospice, 150 W. Crest St., Escondido, CA 92025.

Howard Jones, 73
SAN MARCOS - Howard Paul Jones, 73, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, in Escondido.
Born Oct. 28, 1927, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he lived in San Marcos for 26 years and in California for 39 years. He had been an executive assistant for the Orange County Building and Maintenance Dept. for 14 years. He retired from the U.S. Marine Corps after 22 years of service. He was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church and worked with the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults for many years. He served as president of the Parkinson's Support Group in Escondido for three years.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy G. Jones of San Marcos; son Timothy P. Jones of Kittnedge, Colo., daughter Linda D. Jones of Encino; and half-brother Kevin Jones of Ridgefield, Conn.
A rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. and memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, at St. Mark's Catholic Church with the Rev. Burt Boudoin officiating. Inurnment with full military honors will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Oceanside.
The family suggests memorial donations to the Escondido Parkinson's Support Group, c/o Joslyn Senior Center, 210 E. Park Ave., Escondido, CA 92025.

Carl Johnson, 53
ESCONDIDO - Carl Howard Johnson, 53, died Monday, June 18, 2001, in Oceanside.
Born Feb. 12, 1948, in San Diego, he lived in Escondido for 10 years. He retired in May 2001, as a bus driver for the Escondido School District. He coached disabled children's baseball and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his father, John David Simpson, in 1977. He is survived by his mother, Vera Marie Simpson of Vista; daughters and son-in-law Louise Johnson of San Marcos, Carla Johnson of Vista, Carolyn Johnson of Escondido and Shawnon and Max Hernandez of Japan; brothers Dave Simpson and Steve Simpson, both of Vista; sister Denise Johnson of Vista; grandchildren Renee, and Derek Hunt, Christopher Johnson, Eric Motas and Matthew and Cynthia Hernandez; and many nieces and nephews.
Burial with military honors is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside.
The family suggests memorial donations to a charity of choice.
North County Cremation Society is handling arrangements.
