Ernest Hunt, 67

VISTA - Ernest Lloyd Hunt Jr., 67, died Saturday, March 11, 2000, in Fallbrook.

Born March 8, 1933, in Clarendon, Texas, he lived in Vista for 33 years. He was a self-employed attorney for 40 years and served in the U.S. Navy in Korea. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 700 in Clarendon, past president of the Boys & Girls Club of Vista, past president of the Northern San Diego County Bar Association and a member of Vista Rotary Club.

Mr. Hunt is survived by his wife, Dara Hunt of Vista; son John Hunt of Saratoga; daughter Katherine Gitzgerald of San Jose; sister Louva Agnes Hunt of Clarendon; and one grandchild.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 17, at Community Church of Vista, with the Rev. Douglas Regin officiating. A private cremation is planned with cremains to be scattered at sea.

Thomas Clements, 87

FALLBROOK - Thomas Hugh Clements, 87, died Thursday, March 9, 2000, in Fallbrook.

Born Dec. 21, 1912, in Nebraska, he lived in Fallbrook for two years. He was an aviation inspector for North American for 35 years and served in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Clements was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Clements; and five sisters. He is survived by his sons, Dr. Douglas H. Clements of Fallbrook and Thomas M. Clements of Long Beach; daughter Stephanie J. Adams of Long Beach; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A private family memorial service is planned.

The family suggests memorial donations to the George G. Glenner Alzheimer's Family Center, Inc., 320 W. Alvarado Road, Fallbrook, CA 92028.

Leon Jonker, 89

FRESNO - Leon M. Jonker, 89, died Saturday, March 11, 2000, in Clovis.

Born Oct. 11, 1910, in Rotterdam, Holland, he lived in Fresno and previously lived in El Cajon for 25 years. He was a graduate of Pasadena High School and the owner of Oceanside Nursery and Florist from 1945 to 1965, Frank Palay Flowers in Beverly Hills from 1966 to 1974, Beautilities in San Diego and Tri-Card Pool Tables in El Cajon. He was co-owner of Grieve and Jonker Flowers in Pasadena, salesman for Olhausen Billiards, general manager of Wilcox, Veteto and Thill Real Estate in Oceanside from 1965 to 1966. He served as president of the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce in 1962 and was a member of the Oceanside Rotary Club. He served as a flight instructor in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a Paul Harris Fellow and a member of the Pasadena Mounted Police.

Mr. Jonker was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Jonker; and his brother, William Jonker. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Kathy Meacham of San Marcos and Dr. Tony and Debbie Jonker of Fresno; daughters and sons-in-law Mary and Bill McPherson of Valley Center; stepdaughters and stepson-in-law Linda and Royce Walkenhorst of Bonita and Kay Sporleder of El Cajon; sister Catherine Higbee of Palmdale; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today, March 16, at El Cajon Mortuary. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, March 17, at El Cajon Mortuary Chapel, with the Rev. Mike Mitschke officiating.

A private burial will follow.

Irene Norton, 88

POWAY - Irene K. Norton, 88, died Monday, March 13, 2000, of congestive heart failure, at Pomerado Hospital.

Born March 16, 1911, in Grand Rapids, Mich., she lived in Poway. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Norton was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd M. Norton, in 1979. She is survived by her son, Larry N. Norton of Evergreen, Colo.; daughter Shirley N. Kenney of Poway; sisters and brother-in-law Mildred F. Konle of Grand Rapids and Janet and Lee Lunderville of Port Angeles, Wash.; grandchildren Mark, Brian, Anne, Michelle, Gregory, Matthew, Todd, Amy and Julie; and great-grandchildren Alex, Zachary, Sarah, Ryan, Rachel, Hannah and Gavin.

A rosary will be recited and a funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 18, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Poway, with the Rev. Joseph Finnerty officiating. Interment icon will take place Monday, March 20, at Dearborn Memorial Park in Poway. Call the mortuary for time at (858) 748-4101.

Joseph DeView, 72

GREENBUSH, Michigan - Commander Joseph R. DeView, USN (Ret), 72, died Saturday, March 11, 2000, at his home in Greenbush, from a brain tumor.

Born Feb. 13, 1928, in Flint, Mich., he had lived in Fallbrook and Poway. He was the former commander of the Fallbrook Naval Weapons Station from 1971 to 1977 and was a member of the Fallbrook Rotary Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars and St. Peter's Catholic Church. He earned a bachelor of science degree in education from Central Michigan University. He received the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, United Nations Service Medal and Republic of Vietnam Presidential Unit Citation.

Commander DeView is survived by his wife, Sue DeView; sons Michael DeView, Daniel DeView and Matthew DeView; daughters Angela DeView, Donna Bernardy and Beth DeView; four stepchildren and their families; and nine grandchildren.

The family suggests memorial donations to St. Joseph Huron Home Health and Hospice, 716 German, Suite B, PO Box 208, Tawas City, MI 48764.

Eleanor Phelps, 77

JULIAN - Eleanor F. Phelps, 77, died Sunday, March 12, 2000, at her home.

Born Aug. 6, 1922, in San Diego, she lived in Julian for 21 years. She graduated from Point Loma High School and attended San Diego State. She was a member of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Julian, singing in the choir, a member of the Guild of Our Lady, a Professed Tertiary of the Secular Order of the Discalced Carmelites, St. Joseph Fraternity, San Diego, and a member of Lincoln Demming American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post of Julian.

Mrs. Phelps is survived by her husband of 52 years, Captain Hank Phelps of Julian; son Matthew Phelps of Ramona; daughters Michele Phelps of Julian, Nan Phelps of Berkeley and Anne Phelps Schnapp of Ramona; brother John Forward of Eureka; sister Adele Hemgren of Penn Valley; and eight grandchildren.

A rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m., with a funeral Mass following at 11 a.m. Friday, March 17, at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church of Julian. A committal service and burial will take place at Haven of Rest Cemetery in Julian. Refreshments will be served at the parish hall following the committal.

Richard Rinker, 70

ESCONDIDO - Richard C. Rinker, 70, died Saturday, March 11, 2000, at Palomar Medical Center.

Born July 16, 1929, in North Plainfield, N.J., he lived in Escondido for 11 years. He was an auto salesman for 25 years before retiring.

Mr. Rinker is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca and Carl Heath of Illinois and Connie and Ron Betenbough of Texas; brother Robert Rinker of New Jersey; sisters and brother-in-law Leona Picca and Delores and Herb Locklin, both of Northern California; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be held during the funeral service. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. today, March 14, at the Slumber Room at McLeod Mortuary, Escondido Chapel, with the Rev. Paul Kugler officiating. An additional service and burial will take place at Resthaven Funeral Home and Cemetery in Lubbock, Texas.

Ray McAllister, 85

LAKE SAN MARCOS - Ray Edgar McAllister, 85, died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at Lake San Marcos.

Born Jan. 26, 1915, he lived at Lake San Marcos for 25 years. He was an attorney-at-law for Brandlin & McAllister and a member of the Lake San Marcos Kiwanis Club.

Mr. McAllister is survived by his wife, Bonnie Jean McAllister of Lake San Marcos; sons Bruce McAllister of Medway, Mass., and Scott McAllister of Salida, Colo.; stepsons Robert Michael Shanahan of Indian Wells and Thomas Shanahan of Woodside; daughter Cameron Williams of Pueblo, Colo.; grandchildren Kristin McAllister of Medway, Michael McAllister of Bay Point, Kimberly Stubbs of Keflavic, Iceland, Katie Williams of Denver, and Lindsey and Chleo and Grace McAllister, all of Salida.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 17, at Church of Our Saviour in San Gabriel. Another memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, March 20, at the Lake San Marcos Recreational Center. Inurnment will take place at San Gabriel Cemetery.

Fredrick Lohrke, 84

MENIFEE - Fredrick W. Lohrke, 84, died Monday, March 13, 2000, at his home.

Born July 11, 1915, in Dallas, he lived in Menifee for 21 years. He was a carpenter for the city of Los Angeles for 60 years and served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946. He was a beekeeper.

Mr. Lohrke is survived by his wife, Lillian Lohrke of Menifee; sons David Lohrke of San Juan Capistrano and Stanley Lohrke of Santa Fe Springs; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today, March 16, at Evans Brown Sun City Mortuary. A funeral service is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Friday, March 17, at Evans Brown Sun City Mortuary. Burial will follow at Riverside National Cemetery, Staging Area 5.

Robert Wright, 75

VISTA - Robert Keith Wright, 75, died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, of aspiration pneumonia, at Tri-City Medical Center.

Born July 17, 1923, in Tompkins Township, Warren County, Ill., he lived in Vista for 45 years. He retired from Prudential Insurance Co. on June 1, 1976. He served as pump station operator with the 784th Army Engineers in Africa and Cologne, France, during the Battle of the Bulge in World War II, and with the U.S. Army from Jan. 7, 1943, until Dec. 2, 1945. He worked for San Diego Gas & Electric and established the Wright Brothers general contracting business. He was a member of the Oceanside Seventh-day Adventist Church, serving as first elder, coordinator of the Shepherding program, teacher of a Sabbath School class, and helping with the building program.

Mr. Wright is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rose Ann Wright of Vista; sons and daughters-in-law Robert K. Jr. and Jane Wright of Lampasas, Texas, and Richard Lee and Sandee Wright of Candler, N.C.; daughter and son-in-law Patricia Ann and Ralph Pakis of Vista; brother and sister-in-law Homer and Melva Wright of Priest River, Idaho; and grandchildren Aimee Noelle Wright Patterson and Travis Patterson, Stacee Lynne Wright and Carol Joanna Wright.

A memorial service was held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 9, at the Oceanside Seventh-day Adventist Church, with the Revs. Eddie and Euel Atchley officiating. Inurnment will take place at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial donations to the Seventh-day Adventist Elementary School, 1943 California St., Oceanside, CA 92054.

Francisca Santos, 79

OCEANSIDE - Francisca V. Santos, 79, died Sunday, March 12, 2000, in Oceanside.

Born Dec. 3, 1920, in Philadelphia, she lived in Oceanside for 24 years. She was retired from Van Camp Tuna Fish Cannery.

Mrs. Santos was preceded in death by her husband, Ricarte Santos, in 1989. She is survived by her sons, William Santos and Ray Santos, both of Oceanside, and Pronie Santos of Los Angeles; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Viewing was held Wednesday and Thursday, March 15 and 16, at Eternal Hills Mortuary. A Mass will be celebrated today, March 17, at Mission San Luis Rey Chapel. Burial will follow at Glen Abbey Cemetery.

Lois Brightman, 58

NATIONAL CITY - Lois Brightman, 58, died Tuesday, March 14, 2000, in San Diego.

Born June 14, 1941, in Pennsylvania, she lived in National City.

Mrs. Brightman was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Brightman, in 1988. She is survived by her daughters, Michele Brightman of San Marcos and Jennifer Brightman of Vista; and granddaughter Samantha Brightman of Vista.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. today, March 17, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Daniel Fixsen, 93

ENCINITAS - Daniel P. Fixsen, 93, died Tuesday, March 14, 2000, at his home.

Born Nov. 11, 1906, in Missouri, he lived in Encinitas for 59 years. He was retired from the Carpenters Union and was a member of the United Methodist Church of Encinitas.

Mr. Fixsen is survived by his wife of 40 years, Alberta Fixsen of Encinitas; sons Dale Fixsen of Apple Valley, Gail Coleman of Santa Rosa, David Coleman of Phoenix and Jim Thomas of Carlsbad; brother Ray Fixsen of Goodland, Kan.; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11:45 a.m. Sunday, March 19, at the United Methodist Church of Encinitas. A private Interment will take place at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

VISTA - Jennie F. Schmidt, 75, died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, in Oceanside.

Born Nov. 16, 1924, in Boerne, Texas, she lived in Vista for 24 years. She was a material expeditor for the civil service, retiring from Camp Pendleton.

Mrs. Schmidt is survived by her son, Allen Schmidt of Boerne; daughter Jane Cooke of Apopka, Fla.; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held. A private cremation is planned with cremains to be scattered at sea.

Charley Nolan, 71

OCEANSIDE - Charley Ross Nolan, 71, died Sunday, March 12, 2000, of a lung ailment, at the Veterans Medical Center in Long Beach.

Born Jan. 25, 1929, in Peoples Township, Boone County, Iowa, he lived in Oceanside. He was a truck driver before retiring. He was a member of the Coastal Presbyterian Church of Oceanside and served in the U.S. Air Force.

Mr. Nolan is survived by his sons, Carl Nolan of Eldridge, Iowa, and Daniel Nolan of Clive, Iowa; daughters Rhonda Nolan of Fort Collins, Colo., Cheryl Nolan of Urbandale, Iowa, and Carol Stratton of Bettendorf, Iowa; brother R. Dean Nolan of Des Moines, Iowa; and grandchildren Adam Nolan, Steven Nolan, Nolan Stratton and Chloe Nolan.

Viewing was held Thursday, March 16, at Rose Hills Mortuary in Whittier. A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. today, March 17, at Rose Hills Hillside Chapel, Gate 17, in Whittier, with Dion L. Marshall officiating. A private cremation is planned followed by inurnment.

Leone Gheen, 98

FALLBROOK - Leone Catherine Lutz Gheen, 98, died Wednesday, March 15, 2000, in Fallbrook.

Born March 15, 1902, in Pittsburgh, she lived in Fallbrook for 50 years. She was a secretary for Ohio Brass Co. for 20 years and a member of the Angel Society and Rotary Auxiliary.

Mrs. Gheen was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Gheen, in 1972. She is survived by three nephews and six nieces.

A Mass will be celebrated at noon Saturday, March 18, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Bernie Rapp officiating. Interment icon will take place at 3:30 p.m. at Resurrection Cemetery in Montibello.

The family suggests memorial donations to the Angel Society, 1075 S. Mission Road, Suite F, Fallbrook, CA 92028.

Evelyn "Evie" McGuire, 91

Escondido -- Evelyn "Evie" McGuire, 91, died Saturday, March 4, 2000, at Nightingale Assisted Living Center.

Born April 3, 1908, in New York, she lived in Escondido for the last 20 years. She was a member of the Church of the Resurrection Community serving as a Eucharistic minister, a lector and a member of the Legion of Mary.

Ms. McGuire is survived by her only daughter, Carol Jean Pollina of Tucson, Ariz., and her grandchildren; Marietta, Victoria, Charles and Elizabeth.

A Mass will be offered for her at 10 a.m. Monday, April 17, at the Church of the Resurrection, 1445 Conway Dr., Escondido.

Dorothy Juster, 84
POWAY -- Dorothy Juster, 84, died Wednesday, March 15, 2000, at Pomerado Hospital.

Born June 21, 1915, in Boston she was a resident of Rancho Bernardo for 25 years. She had worked in Guam.

Ms. Juster is survived by her husband of 47 years, Norbert Juster of Rancho Bernardo; brother Joseph Cody of Bourne, Mass., sister Helen Lewis of Somerville, Mass., numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial Mass took place on Friday, March 17 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Escondido. There will be a private family burial at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial donations to The American Cancer Society, 12409 Rancho Bernardo Rd. San Diego, CA 92128.
