ESCONDIDO - Melvin Edward Seiler, 73, died Saturday, March 18, 2000, at his residence.
Born Dec. 21, 1927, in Madison, Neb., he was a resident of Escondido for 20 years. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1976 as a commander, after service 30 years.
Mr. Seiler is survived by his wife, Carol Lea Seiler of Escondido; son and daughter-in-law David and Griselda Seiler of Benicia; daughter Debi Schwarz of Chula Vista; brothers Harold Seiler of Madison and Raymond Seiler of Port Angeles, Wash.; sister Burnie Moxham of Omaha, Neb; and three grandchildren.
No services are scheduled.

William W. "Bill" Allen, 80
OCEANSIDE - William, W. "Bill" Allen, 80, died Saturday, March 18, 2000, from complications from cancer at his residence.
Born June 9, 1919 in Phoenix, he was a resident of Oceanside for 23 years. He was a member of Teamsters Local 104, retiring in 1981 from a number of moving and storage companies. He was a lifetime member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elk (B.P.O.E.) Lodge No. 335 in Phoenix. He was instrumental in developing the senior citizens softball league in Southern California.
Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his sons Larry and Ronald and grandson Shawn. He is survived by his wife Eleanor Allen of Oceanside; sons Donald and Brian; daughters Linda, Cindy and Susan; grandchildren Misty, Casey,
Adam, Katie, Renesha, Bethany, Hannah, Matthew, Rachel and Daniel; and great-grandchild Micaela.
Memorial services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, at Rancho Calevero Clubhouse, 3570 Calevero, Oceanside with the Rev. Andre Brackens of New Venture Christian Fellowship officiating. Inurnment will be at Live Oak Cemetery, Monrovia.

Josephine Fino, 72
POWAY - Josephine Fino, 72, died Saturday, March 18, 2000 at Pomerado Hospital.
Born May 18, 1927, in San Diego she was a resident of Escondido for 20 years. She retired from Pacific Dental Lab after 20 years as a dental technician.
Ms. Fino is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Gilbert and Lily Baca, Jr., of Encinitas, Don and Christina Baca of Chula Vista and Richard and Tina Baca of Escondido; daughter and son-in-law Christina and Gil Palma of Escondido; brothers Leonard Fino of Los Angeles and Abrose Fino of San Diego; sister MaryLou Fino of San Diego; 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 23, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 13th and Broadway, Escondido. Burial will follow Mass at approximately 11:15 a.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park, 2640 Glenridge Rd., Escondido.

Mary Helen "Pat" Pyle, 76
SAN CLEMENTE - Mary Helen "Pat" Pyle, 76, died Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at San Clemente Hospital of natural causes.
Born March 28, 1923 in Akron, Ohio, she was a resident of San Juan Capistrano for one year. She resided in Oceanside and San Marcos from 1987 to 1999.
Mrs. Pyle was preceded in death by her husband Godfrey Pyle in April 1998.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Scott and Linda Pyle of San Clemente ; daughter and son-in-law Julie and Ace Hollinger of Oceanside and sister-in-law Dean Patterson of Akron, Ohio.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, March 27, at Ft. Roscrans National Cemetery, Point Loma. There was a private cremation.

VISTA - Hazel Namoi Shultz, 92, died Tuesday, March 21, 2000.
Born Jan. 5, 1908, in Ragen, Neb., she was a resident of Oceanside for 47 years. She was a retired registered nurse, a member of Carlsbad Community Church and a Elk's Ladies Auxiliary.
Mrs. Shultz was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Krysteen Shultz, in 1982. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Dr. George Shultz of Oceanside; son R. Bryan Shultz of Oceanside and sisters Pearl Dreyfus of Valley Center and Gladys Rickerd of Spokane, Wash.
Visitation is scheduled from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, March 24, at Oceanside Mortuary. Graveside services are scheduled for 11 a.m., Friday, March 24 at Eternal Hills Memorial Park with the Rev. Berry Jones of Carlsbad Community Church officiating.

Born Dec. 30, 1909, in Italy, she was a resident of Escondido for 57 years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Arena was preceded in death by her husband Anthony Arena in 1996. She is survived by her son Dominic Arena of Escondido; sons and daughters-in-law Carmen and Joella Arena of Colorado and Larry and Shirley Arena of Escondido; daughter and son-in-law Mary and David Brotherton of Escondido; sister Connie Arena of Escondido; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 24, at McLeod Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Tom Maher officiating. Interment
will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

OCEANSIDE - Robert E. Watkins, 86, died Tuesday, March 21, 2000.
Born April 25, 1913, in Peru, Ind., he was a resident of Oceanside for 27 years. He retired as a major in the United States Air Force in 1962.
Mr. Watkins is survived by his wife of 46 years, Patricia Watkins of Oceanside; son Robert E. Watkins II of Oceanside; daughters Anita Watkins of Scotts Valley, Patricia Yeomans of Vista, Jennifer Watkins of Las Vegas and four grandchildren.

ESCONDIDO - Richard Henry Kolb, Sr., 91, died Tuesday, March 21, 2000.
Born Feb. 1, 1909, in Hector, Renville, Minn., he was a resident of Escondido for 11 years. He was retired from Los Angeles Dept. of Water and Power.
Mr. Kolb is survived by his wife of 65 years, Iva E. Kolb of Escondido; son and daughter-in-law Richard and Louise Kolb of Escondido; grandchildren David and Tiffany Kolb, Deanna and Michael Gutierrez, and Deborah and Mark Andreasen and four great-grandchildren.
A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, March 24, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 130 E. 13th Ave., with the Rev. Peter Navarro officiating. Burial will follow at Oakhill Memorial Park, 2640 Glenridge Rd. Escondido.

Harry D. Betts, 87
SAN MARCOS - Harry D. Betts, 87, died Sunday, March 19, 2000, at his residence.
Born Feb. 7, 1913, in Springfield, Ill., he was a resident of San Marcos. He was a design engineer for Arco Corp. for 25 years. He managed and designed both the Madrid Manor and San Marcos View Estates Mobile Home Parks. He was a chief building inspector for the City of San Marcos. He designed and built the Casa Loma Mobile Park. He was a member of the San Marcos Rotary and a volunteer at Tri City Hospital.
Mr. Betts is survived by his wife of 26 years, Margie Betts of San Marcos; daughters Carole Cross of Alpena, Mich., and Gaye Roberts of Long Beach; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A private inurnment is scheduled.

SAN DIEGO - V. Robert Lutman, 65, died Monday, March 20, 2000, at UCSD Medical Center.
Born April 9, 1934, in Keyser W. Va., he was a resident of San Marcos. He was a retired social worker for Eastern L.A. Regional Center and pastor counselor for Hope Chapel in Hermosa Beach, retiring in August 1993. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army, serving as an Army security agent in the European theater.
Mr. Lutman was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Foster Lutman, in 1973. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Shirley A. Lutman of San Marcos; mother Clarice Lutman of Keyser, W. Va., sister and brother-in-law Ginger and Len Van Meter of Keyser, W. Va., and nephew Sam and wife Bobbie Jo Snyder of Keyser, W. Va.
A graveside service is scheduled to be held at Fort Rosecrans.

Mrs. Thieman is survived by her husband of 19 years, Marten Thieman of Oceanside; sons Charles Burroughs of Oceanside and Michael Mayfield of Oceanside; daughter Sydnia Mayfield of Oceanside; sister Barbara Clausen of Reno, Nev., and one grandchild.

Born May 23, 1941, in Sapulda, Okla., she was a resident of Fallbrook for three years. She was the owner/operator of a craft shop for 14 years and a member of Christian Womens Guild in Fallbrook.
Mrs. Whitney is survived by her husband, Fred Whitney of Fallbrook; mother Bernadine Martin of Denver, Colo., sons Scott Whitney of San Diego, Brett Whitney of Long Beach and Deron Whitney of Irvine; daughters Rhonda Whitney of Rochester, N.Y., and Sheri Hunt of Fallbrook; brother Roy Martin of Denver, Colo., sister Joy Hall of Byers, Colo., and five grandchildren.

Born Feb. 27, 1921, in Dallas, Texas, she was a resident of Escondido for 27 years. She was a homemaker most of her life but did work 10 years as the manager of Des Moines Catering, in Des Moines, Iowa.
Mrs. Liibbe is survived by her husband of 60 years, Elmer H. Liibbe of Escondido; daughter Linda F. Ellenwood of Escondido; grandchildren Scott Ellenwood of Stockton, Devin Ellenwood of Escondido and Shannon Nakopoulos of Escondido and three great-grandchildren.

Born Aug. 20, 1903, in St. Joseph, Mo., she was a resident of San Diego for 25 years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Orrick was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Orrick, in 1984. She is survived by daughters Gayle Hartig of San Diego and Muriel "Sissy" Dahlquist of Temecula; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

RAMONA - Felix D. Abarca, 19, died Thursday, March 23, 2000, as a result of an automobile accident.
Born Sept. 6, 1980, in Poway he was a lifelong resident of Ramona. He attended Ramona schools and worked as a laborer.
Mr. Abarca is survived by his father Luis J. Abarca of Ramona; mother Gema M. Garcia of Spring Hill, Fla.; brothers Alfredo Abarca of Ramona and Jose Mora serving with the U.S. Army in N.C.; sister Elizabeth Davis of Chula Vista and grandparents Felix and Angela Garcia of Modesto.
A viewing is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 27, at Bonham Bros. & Lee Ramona Chapel. A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church with the rosary recited one half hour earlier.
