LAS VEGAS - Noel Vry, 57, died Sunday, March 19, 2000.
Born March 18, 1943, in Marshall Town, Iowa, he was a resident of Escondido for 15 years. He was employed at Del's Barbershop for 14 years as a barber.
Mr. Vry is survived by his mother, June Vry of Scottsdale, Ariz.; daughter and son-in-law Abby and Steve Clemmer of Las Vegas, Aaron Vry of Las Vegas and Andrew Vry of Escondido; brothers Larry Vry of Iowa and Gary Vry of California, sister Pam Zugg of Iowa and one grandchild.
A memorial service was held on Thursday, March 23, in Las Vegas. A cremation and scattering was held.

John L. Klavohn, 66
John L. Klavohn, 66, died Monday, March 20, 2000, of pancreatic cancer at his home in Temecula.
Born July 26, 1933, in Princeton, Ill., he lived in Temecula for 12 years.
He attended high school in Salem, Ore., graduated from Oregon State University and was an active member in the Masonic Lodge in Salem. He served in the United States Army, going TDY to the Air Force during his tour of duty in Korea between 1953 to 1956.
He spent 14 years with Mobile Oil Corporation in the San Francisco bay area, later moving to Bend, Ore., where he continued in the same field along with being an active member of the American Legion. He worked as a CPA in Temecula, owning Klavohn's Bookkeeping and Tax Service. He was a member of the National Society of Accountants.
Mr. Klavohn is survived by his wife, Bonita (Bonnie) of Temecula; daughters Christine King and Laura Klavohn; and two granddaughters, all of San Diego.
Viewing is scheduled for 1 p.m., Monday, March 27 at Calvary Chapel Bible Fellowship in Temecula. Service is scheduled to follow at 2 p.m.

Elizabeth Kurianski, 93, died March 23, 2000, of heart failure at her home in Romoland.
Born March 13, 1907, in Hungary, she lived in Romoland for 33 years.
Mrs. Kurianski was a widowed homemaker and had lived in California almost all her life.
She was active in the local Baha'i community and was a member of the First Local Spiritual Assembly of Perris Valley. She was also devoted to her family, including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons: Carlos Kurianski of Romoland and Stanley Kurianski of New York City.
Visitation will be held March 28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Miller-Jones Mortuary and Crematory in Sun City.
A memorial service will be held March 28 at Miller-Jones Mortuary and Crematory at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Perris Valley Cemetery.

MESA, ARIZ. - Irene I. (Nana) Lowe, 81, died Monday, March 20, 2000, of natural causes.
Born May 17, 1918, in Hillside, N.J., she was a resident of Oceanside for 30 years. She had worked for J.C. Penney in Carlsbad for 13 years. She was a member of San Luis Rey.
Mrs. Lowe was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lowe in 1991. She is survived by daughters Patricia Clark of Bonsall and Kathleen Schusler of Mesa, Ariz.; sister Doris Nordstrom of Stroudsberg, Pa.; grandchildren John E. Schmid, Jr., Jennifer Lackey, Patricia Fasola, Debra Smith, Tammy Sweatland, Justin Schmid, John Sweatland, Jonelle Masi, Tiffany Martindale, and Christian Schusler; and 21 great-grandchildren.
A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 28 at San Luis Rey Mission Chapel with the Rev. M. Gannon officiating. Inurnment will follow the services at San Luis Rey Cemetary.

William W. "Bill" Allen, 80
OCEANSIDE - William, W. "Bill" Allen, 80, died Saturday, March 18, 2000, from complications from cancer at his residence.
Born June 9, 1919 in Phoenix, he was a resident of Oceanside for 23 years. He was a member of Teamsters Local 104, retiring in 1981 from a number of moving and storage companies. He was a lifetime member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elk (B.P.O.E.) Lodge No. 335 in Phoenix. He was instrumental in developing the senior citizens softball league in Southern California.
Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his sons Larry and Ronald and grandson Shawn. He is survived by his wife Eleanor Allen of Oceanside; sons Donald and Brian; daughters Linda, Cindy and Susan; grandchildren Misty, Casey,
Adam, Katie, Renesha, Bethany, Hannah, Matthew, Rachel and Daniel; and great-grandchild Micaela.

VISTA -- Harold A. Mitts, 97, died Tuesday, March 21, 2000.
Born Aug. 26, 1902, in Mich., he was a resident of Vista. He was retired as the owner of Vista Flowers and Gifts. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce; former art teacher at Palomar College; Rotary member, long time member and elder at Community Church of Vista.
Mr. Mitts was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Rona Mitts of Vista; son Donald Mitts of Escondido; daughters Barbara Burnell of Los Angeles and Connie McCullum of Vista; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

CARLSBAD -- Gary Dail Holmes, 53, died at Scripps Oceanview Convalescent Hospital.
Born Jan. 13, 1947, in California, he was a resident of Carlsbad for 53 years. He served in the U.S. Navy and did two tours in Vietnam as a BM3.
Mr. Holmes was preceded in death by his father Percy B. Holmes in Jan. 1988. He is survived by his mother Pauline Holmes of Carlsbad; brothers Richard and Paul B. Holmes both of Oceanside and sisters Patricia Holmes of Carlsbad and Evelyn Kaye Holmes of Aurora, Colo.

AGUANGA -- Pedro Varela Castaneda, 45, died Friday, March 17, 2000.
Born Nov. 16, 1954, in Tijuana, Baja, Mexico, he was a resident of Aguanga for two years and formerly of Fallbrook for 36 years. He was a carpenter.
Mr. Castaneda is survived by his mother, Margarita Castaneda of Fallbrook; father Isaac Varela of Fallbrook; sons Nicholas, Lorenzo, and Gabriel Varela all of Fallbrook; brothers Salvado, Ramon, Isaac and Jose Varela all of Fallbrook and sisters Josephine Martinez of Vista, Marcelina Velasco of Fallbrook and Aurora Campos of Murrieta.

ESCONDIDO -- Fredrick P. Scharold, 80, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at Palamar Continuing Care of lung cancer.
Born Oct. 17, 1919, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was a resident of San Marcos for 16 years. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II as a Sgt. He was a retired electrian and bartender.
Mr. Scharold is survived by his companion of 37 years, Geraldine Griffin of San Marcos and numerous relatives.

VISTA -- William Adams, 90, died Wednesday, March 22, 2000.
Born Dec. 11, 1909, in Canada, he was a resident of Oceanside. He retired from the hardware sales. He was a member of Vista Elks and Masonic Lodge.
Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Mae Adams in 1985.
A graveside service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park / folded flags section with the Rev. David Plank officiating. Interment

ESCONDIDO -- Jean Marie Hatch, 78, died Saturday, March 18, 2000.
Born April 30, 1921, in Long Beach, she was a resident of Bonsall for 18 years. She was a retired dental assistant.
Ms. Hatch is survived by her brother Viva Howard and brother and sister-in-law Arthur and Beverly Hatch.

Joseph P. Dordahl, 77
Escondido -- Joseph P. Dordahl, 77, died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at Palomar Hospital.
Born Oct. 30, 1922, in Hanks, N.D., he was a resident of Warner Springs for nine years. He was a graduate from North Dakota State University. He served in the U.S. Navy for 24 years during WW II, Korea and Vietnam, retiring as a commander. He was a tax consultant for 25 years. He was a member of the Borrego Springs Lutheran Church, served on the board of San Diego Transit, served as a past president of the Bonita Kiwanis Club, member of the San Diego Maritime Museum as well as the Zoological Society. He was a volunteer at the Anza-Borrego Visitors Center for the past several years.
Mr. Dordahl was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Fay Y. Dordahl, in May of 1997. He is survived by daughters, Marcia G. Dordahl of Santa Ana and Lynn Dordahl of San Clemente; brothers Arnold Dordahl of Fort Collins, Colo., and Alvin Dordahl of Borrego Springs.
Visitation is scheduled from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 29, at Bonham Bros & Lee Ramona Chapel. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m., burial with full military honors will follow at Nuevo Memory Gardens in Ramona.

Mr. Herrera is survived by his wife of 35 years, Carmen Herrera of Oceanside; mother Maria Castanon of Solana Beach; sons Richardo Herrera of Oceanside, Cesar Herrera of California and Fernando Herrera of Oceanside; daughter Hilda Herrera of Oceanside; five brothers, five sisters and 14 grandchildren.

ROCKDALE, Texas -- Fred J. Williams, 95, died Thursday, March 23, 2000.
Born Dec. 1, 1904, in Lockhart, Texas, he was a resident of Rockdale, Texas, formerly of Oceanside. He owned and managed a motel for 25 years, retiring in 1968.
Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents, Jasper and Laura Holmes Williams, two sisters and six brothers. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Doris Williams of Rockdale; son and daughter-in-law Robert "Scottie" and Barbara Williams of Overland Park, Kan.; brother Willie Boy Williams of Rockdale, grandchildren Susie and husband Randy Weiner of Boulder, Colo., Joanie and husband Pat Bristol of Phoenix; great grandchildren Jason, Nichol, Aaron and Sage and many other relatives.
Visitation was held from 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 25. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:30 today in the Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden / Capital Parks Funeral Home. Internment will follow in Cook-Walden / Capital Parks Cemetery.

Joan Saling, 63, died March 22, 2000, at Menifee Valley Medical Center in Sun City.
Born April 12, 1936, in Santa Monica, she lived in Sun City for 18 years.
Mrs. Saling worked for two years as an assembler with Ball Aerospace in Huntington Beach.
She was a member of the Relief Society of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She also enjoyed gardening, genealogy and raising cats.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, David Saling, of Sun City, as well as two daughters, Gayle Bennett of Hinckley, Utah, and Cynthia Nurmela of Sun City; and three sons, Eldon Saling of Utah, Robert Saling of Murrieta and Stuart Saling of Sun City. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 27, at Miller-Jones Mortuary and Crematory in Sun City.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. March 28 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Bishop Bloom officiating. Burial will follow at 11:45 a.m. at Riverside National Cemetery.

Frank Miceli, 90, died March 21, 2000, at Kaiser Hospital in Riverside.
Born Aug. 21, 1909, in Sicily, he had lived in Sun City for 30 years.
Mr. Miceli worked for Chaffey School District in Ontario as a maintenance foreman for 24 years.
He was a former member of the Elks Lodge in Connecticut, and spent his spare time playing golf and playing cards.
He is survived by two daughters, Adele Bashore of Brea and Marcia Bonafede of Murrieta; and two sons, Frank Miceli Jr. of Oxnard and Joseph Miceli of New London, Conn. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 27, from 9 to 10 a.m. at Evans-Brown Mortuary in Sun City. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, also at Evans-Brown. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Covina.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions be forwarded to the American Heart Association.
