UNION CITY - Marian Yasukochi Kato, 64, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, in Hayward.
Born in Oceanside, she lived in Union City for 30 years.
Mrs. Kato is survived by her husband, Tsugio Kato of Union City; son Keith Kato of Huntington Beach; daughter and son-in-law Pamela Kato and Craig Lang of Union City; brother and sister-in-law Allen and Luckie Yasukochi of Oceanside; and sisters and brothers-in-law Alethea and George Nagata and Jane and Yuji Yasukochi, all of Oceanside, and Carolyn and Fred Tomiyoshi of Las Vegas.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at Sunset View Mortuary in El Cerrito. A funeral service is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at Oakland Buddhist Church in Oakland, with the Rev. Haruo Yamaoka officiating. Inurnment will take place at Sunset View Cemetery in El Cerrito.

Jennifer Rice, 16
MURRIETA - Jennifer Lynnette Rice, 16, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, from multiple injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born Feb. 10, 1983, in Long Beach, she lived in Murrieta for 16 years. She was a student at Murrieta Valley High School and a member of Pop Warner Cheerleaders.
Jennifer was preceded in death by her grandparents, Inez and William Rice. She is survived by her parents, Mike and Rebecca Rice of Murrieta; brothers Chris Rice of Sacramento and Matthew Rice of Murrieta; and grandparents Ross and Millie Bigelow of Crestline.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. today, Jan. 28, at Calvary Chapel of Temecula. Burial will follow at Laurel Cemetery in Murrieta.

Bernice Lefkowitz, 82
MURRIETA - Bernice Edith Lefkowitz, 82, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, from complications of emphysema at Rancho Springs Medical Center in Murrieta.
Born Feb. 11, 1917, in Bronx, N.Y., she lived in Temecula for 60 years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Lefkowitz is survived by her sons, Morton Lefkowitz of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Louis Lefkowitz of Castle Rock, Colo.; daughter Joan Lucier of Temecula; sister Sylvia Weisberg of Salt Lake City; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held at noon Thursday, Jan. 27, at Temecula Valley Cemetery.

WILDOMAR - Rose Marie Soda, 73, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, of pneumonia at Inland Valley Regional Medical Center in Wildomar.
Born June 27, 1926, in New York City, she lived in Murrieta for four years. She was an administrative assistant for General Dynamics for 35 years.
Mrs. Soda is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Paul Krzysiak of Murrieta; and sister Margaret Vent of Long Beach.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated today, Jan. 28, at St. Martha's Catholic Church in Murrieta. A private burial is planned.

Doris Klies, 83
SOLANA BEACH - Doril Neila Klies, 83, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000.
Born Aug. 25, 1916, in Rockland, Maine, she lived in Solana Beach and Oceanside for 38 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Solana Beach Presbyterian Church, Republican Women's Club, the National Poetry Society and the Navy Wives League.
Mrs. Klies was preceded in death by her husband, Karl D. Klies, on June 5, 1996; and her daughter, Katie Lou Doyle, on Dec. 22, 1996. She is survived by her son, Douglas Winston Small of Encinitas; daughters Elaine Brewster Small and Neila Ann Karoly, both of Oceanside, and Karen Lynn Parkes of Solana Beach; brothers Neil Robbins, Loren Robbins, Aldevera Robbins and Robie Robbins, all of Maine; sister Delia Starrett of Rockland, Maine; grandchildren Tamara Westgate, Douglas Small, Channing Small, Scott Ring, Shannon Ring-McGehee, Monique Eaton, Tyler Bloomingdale, Derek Zovanyi and Leila Stoddard; and 15 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at Solana Beach Presbyterian Church.

VISTA - Ethel Marie Simlik, 88, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, in Oceanside.
Born Aug. 31, 1911, in Battle View, N.D., she lived in Vista for 23 years. She was a homemaker for 46 years and a graduate of Minot State University. She was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International and a volunteer for the Boys & Girls Club of Vista Auxiliary.
Mrs. Simlik is survived by her husband of 46 years, MajGen Wilbur, USMC Ret. of Vista; sister Verna Douts of Powers Lake, N.D.; and a large extended family.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Oceanside, with Dr. Duane Walker officiating. A private cremation is planned.

VISTA - Joseph G. Thornton, 39, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, in Vista.
Born March 8, 1960, in Mesa, Ariz., he lived in Vista for three years. He worked for Century 21.
Mr. Thornton was preceded in death by his sister, Susan Thornton, in 1996. He is survived by his mother and father, Elena and Lewis Thornton of Carlsbad; son Donald Thornton of Thousand Oaks; brother Christopher Thornton of Oceanside; and sisters Maria Lies of Prior Lake, Minn., and Luanne Huisking of San Marcos.

POWAY - Irma Mae Stanfield, 94, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000.
Born May 11, 1905, in Troutcreek, Mont., she lived in Poway for 10 years. She was the owner, operator and teacher of a preschool in Riverside for 20 years before retiring.
Mrs. Stanfield is survived by her daughters, Sharon Stanfield Ditta of Poway and Nancy Marchand of Riverside; and granddaughter Annie Ditta.
A private visitation is planned. A graveside service was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 28, at Crestlawn Cemetery in Riverside.

CARLSBAD - Louise Frances Monroe, 89, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at Brighton Gardens Convalescent Home.
Born Dec. 19, 1910, in Connecticut, she lived in Carlsbad for seven years. She was a secretary for Martin Van Buren High School before retiring.
Mrs. Monroe was preceded in death by her grandson, Andrew Monroe, in 1989. She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Edward and Jeanne Monroe of Carlsbad and James Monroe of Sea Cliff, N.Y.; daughter and son-in-law Mary Lou and Norman Rotenberg of Beverly Hills; sister Florence Lee of Kirkwood, Mo.; grandchildren Mark and Steven Rotenberg of Carlsbad, Terese Cowell and husband Randy of University City; and great-grandchildren Ariel, Andrew, Nicole and Julia Cowell, all of University City.
Visitation and viewing was held and a rosary was recited Friday, Jan. 28, at Eternal Hills Chapel. A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today, Jan. 29, at St. John's Catholic Church in Encinitas. A private cremation is planned with cremains to be interred at Mount Saint Mary's Cemetery in Flushing, N.Y.

Karol Augustyn Labus, 63
HEMET - Karol Augustyn Labus, 63, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at Camp Pendleton Naval Hospital.
Born May 28, 1936, in Poland, he lived in Hemet for 11 years. He was a gunnery sergeant for the U.S. Marine Corps, retiring in 1974 after 20 years.
Mr. Labus is survived by his wife, Patricia M. Labus of Hemet; son Donald Wayne Labus of Redondo Beach; daughter Mary Mae Edsinga of Canyon Lake; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, with Commander Victor H. Krulak Jr., CHC, USN Retired, officiating. Inurnment will follow.

Born June 20, 1913, in Russia, she lived in San Diego County for 54 years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Godwin is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Teri Sittner of Carlsbad; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Thomas Zindell, 73
VISTA - Thomas William Zindell, 73, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, in Oceanside.
Born Oct. 1, 1926, in Philadelphia, he lived in Vista for 36 years. He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army for 20 years, retiring in 1964.
Mr. Zindell is survived by his wife, Patricia M. Zindell of Vista; and grandchild Cassie Johnson.
A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma. Inurnment will follow.

LAKE SAN MARCOS - Marian Findlay, 91, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at Palomar Medical Center.
Born Feb. 4, 1908, in Webster City, Iowa, she lived at Lake San Marcos for 25 years. She was a teacher, a member of the United Church of Lake San Marcos and of PEO.
Mrs. Findlay is survived by her husband of 63 years, Donald Sterling Findlay of Lake San Marcos; son William Sterling Findlay of Portland, Ore.; daughter Susan Jane Conway of Park Ridge, Ill.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
No service will be held at the request of the deceased. A private cremation is planned.

Mrs. Collins is survived by her husband, Willis Collins of Sun City; sons and daughters-in-law Michael and Marcie Collins of Aliso Viejo, Marshall and Pauline Collins of Murrieta, Mitchell and Laura Collins of Phalen and Marc and Patrice Collins of High Point, N.C.; daughters and son-in-law Michelle Small of High Point, N.C., and Melanee and Rob Forney of Sun City; sister Edrie Swanson of Baldwin City, Kan.; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

CANYON LAKE - Georgia Ellen Browning, 83, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at Beverly Healthcare Murrieta.
Born March 22, 1916, in Figure Five, Ark., she lived in Canyon Lake for three years. She was a self-employed medical billing owner in Garden Grove for 35 years. She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Wildomar and a charter member of the Canyon Lake Golf Club.
Mrs. Browning is survived by her husband, Raymond Browning of Canyon Lake; son William Lollie of Idyllwild; sister Marge Russell of Stigler, Okla.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 30, at Miller-Jones Mortuary Chapel. A funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, at the First Southern Baptist Church in Wildomar, with the Rev. Jack Warford officiating. Burial will take place at Elsinore Valley Cemetery.
