Albin Hodges, 79
OCEANSIDE - Albin F. Hodges, 79, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at his home.
Born Aug. 31, 1919, in Los Angeles, he lived in Oceanside for 21 years. He was a switchman for Southern Pacific Railroad, retiring after 40 years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1944 to 1946.
Mr. Hodges is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sara Jane Hodges of Oceanside; sons and daughter-in-law Tom Hodges and Chris and Barbara Hodges, all of Orange; brother Thomas Hodges of Whittier; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A funeral service will be held today, May 11, at Mission San Luis Rey Parish Church. A private cremation is planned and interment will take place at Riverside National Cemetery.

David Shepardson, 86
POWAY - David Runyan "Dave" Shepardson, 86, died Friday, May 5, 2000.
Born April 23, 1914, in Aurora, Ill., he lived in Poway for 51 years. He graduated from Pomona College in 1936 and opened a hardwood lumber and garage door company in the Los Angeles area. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946, leaving as major. He was an airdrome maintenance officer for the Army Air Corps B-29 base and received a Bronze Star for his service on Tinian.
He developed lemon and avocado orchards in Poway and worked for the real estate firm, Shepardson Co. for more than 20 years. He helped with the formation of the Poway Chamber of Commerce. He served on the Poway Municipal Water District board of directors in the 1950s and was their representative to the San Diego County Water Authority for 25 years. He was a member of StoneRidge Country Club and a founding member of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, serving on the Bishop's Committee and Vestry. He also served on the Poway Planning and Development Committee and was a member of the Poway Rotary Club. He retired in 1972.
Mr. Shephardson was preceded in death by his wife, Marion Shepardson, in 1987. He is survived by his son, Philip Shepardson of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; and daughter Mary of Poway.
A celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. today, May 11, at Lake Poway. A portion of his ashes will be scattered at sea off Catalina Island, and the rest will be interred alongside those of his wife at Dearborn Cemetery.

Michael Justine, 79
CARLSBAD - Michael P. Justine, 79, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at his home.
Born March 30, 1921, in Akron, Ohio, he lived in Carlsbad for 10 years. He was the owner and manager of automobile repair shops, retiring in 1985, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Justine is survived by his wife of 51 years, Leda Justine of Carlsbad; sons James P. Justine of Medina, Ohio, and Michael B. Justine of Los Angeles; daughter Sheila J. Justine of Carlsbad; brother Tony Justine of Kenmore, Ohio; sister Mary Armienti of Santa Monica; and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at Eternal Hills Mortuary. A rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m., with a funeral service following at 11 a.m., Friday, May 12, at Eternal Hills Mortuary.

William Kappes, 84
VISTA - William John Kappes, 84, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, in Oceanside.
Born Jan. 20, 1916, in Enochsburg, Ind., he lived in Vista for 36 years. He was a self-employed electro-mechanical engineering consultant for more than 50 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was vice president of the Vista Boys & Girls Club and a member of the Vista Historical Society.
Mr. Kappes was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Jane Kappes, in August 1999. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Nicholas and Linda Kappes of Seattle, Ronald and Stephanie Kappes of Fallbrook and Greg Kappes of Vista; sisters Christine Kahle of Ocala, Fla., and Alma Eary of Cincinnati; and seven grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Friday, May 12, at Old Mission San Luis Rey Church, with the Rev. Michel Gagnon officiating. Inurnment will take place at Mission San Luis Rey Cemetery.

Janet Dodson, 63
RAMONA - Janet "JoAnn" Dodson, 63, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at a local hospital.
Born March 16, 1937, in Pennsylvania, she lived in Orange County before moving to Ramona in 1984. She was a telephone operator for General Telephone in Long Beach and Westminster for 15 years. She worked at the Circle K and the Tee Pee Room in Ramona and worked as a nanny. She also worked for the Sun Valley Florist.
Mrs. Dodson is survived by her sons, Chuck Dodson of Ramona, Don Dodson of Fountain Valley and Michael Nary of Ramona; daughter Debbie Durham of Westminster; brother John Clouse; two sisters; two granddaughters; and her former husband, Chuck Dodson.
A potluck memorial celebration will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 13, at Collier Park in Ramona. A private cremation is planned with interment in the family plot in Pennsylvania.

Bennie Taulbee, 76
VISTA - Bennie Taulbee, 76, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at his home.
Born March 30, 1924, in Breathitt County, Ky., he lived in Vista for 30 years. He was a maintenance technician for the Vista Unified School District before retiring and served as a seaman 1st class in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Taulbee is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Taulbee of Vista; sons Larry Taulbee of Apple Valley, Bennie Glenn Taulbee of Victorville and Jack Wayne Taulbee of Rosemead; daughters Sheila Diane Taulbee and Sherri Darlene Taulbee, both of Victorville; brothers Raymond Taulbee and Curtis Taulbee, both of Winchester, and Edgar Taulbee of Frankfort, Ky.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. today, May 10, at Riverside National Cemetery, Staging Area 1. Burial will follow.

Vincent Cuyno, 66
OCEANSIDE - Vincent Holi Cuyno, 66, died Thursday, May 4, of cancer, at Tri-City Medical Center.
Born Feb. 25, 1934, in Wailuku, Maui, he lived in Oceanside for 41 years. He worked for Eastman Kodak Co., retiring in 1993. He served as a 1st lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, retiring in 1973.
Mr. Cuyno is survived by his wife of 41 years, Florentina Cuyno of Oceanside; sons and daughters-in-law Jonathan and Jennifer Cuyno of Vista and Dominic and Mary Cuyno of Yucca Valley; daughters and sons-in-law Bernadette and Peter Carvalho of Escondido, Shara Cuyno of Carlsbad, Corinna Hunter of Oceanside and Norissa Cuyno of Orange; and grandchildren Louis, Zachary, Tiffany, Adam, Courtney, Trevor, David, Kevin, Jaclyn and Jackson.
Viewing will be held from 2 to 8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at Eternal Hills Mortuary Chapel, with Dorothy Mann officiating. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday, May 12, at Mission San Luis Rey, with the Rev. Vincent Hughes officiating. Burial will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Lorraine Bunge, 85
ESCONDIDO - Lorraine Della Bunge, 85, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at Sunbridge Care in Carmel Mountain.
Born Sept. 8, 1914, in Chicago, she lived in Escondido for 32 years. She was an office manager for Wilson Realty.
Mrs. Bunge was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Bunge, in 1983; and her brother, Clifford Meinke. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Darrell Ford of Escondido; grandchildren Craig Peters of New Mexico, Scott Peters of San Marcos, Lori Vagner of Solana Beach and Corey Peters of Escondido; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation and viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. also at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary, with Zachary Elliott officiating. A private cremation is planned.

Born Jan. 11, 1955, in Caracas, Venezuela, he lived in Solana Beach and Encinitas for 20 years. He was a self-employed cinematographer for 15 years.
Mr. Ospina is survived by his mother and father, Nora and Jorge Ospina of Venezuela; sons Sergio Ospina and Ryan Ospina, both of San Ramon; brothers Mauricio Ospina and Luis German Ospina, both of Venezuela; and sister Gisela Ospina of Barbados.

Born Nov. 21, 1942, in Hawarden, Iowa, she lived in Escondido for 20 years. She worked for Roy Klema Engineering doing housecleaning and bookkeeping for 30 years.
Mrs. Flynt is survived by her husband, Tiny F. Flynt of Escondido; mother Virginia Crane of Illinois; two sons, both of Arizona; two daughters, both of California; brother Kevin Halloran of San Fernando; and sisters Molly Hills of Lancaster and Kathy Halloran of Colorado.

OCEANSIDE - Alexander E. Satler, 80, died Monday, April 10, 2000, of cancer, at Veterans Hospital in La Jolla.
Born Jan. 2, 1920, in Fresno, he lived in Oceanside. He worked for McDonnell Douglas, retiring in 1985, and was a major in the U.S. Air Force, serving during World War II and the Korean War.
Mr. Satler was preceded in death by his son, Gary A. Satler, in September 1993. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Terri Satler of Oceanside; daughter and son-in-law Joanne and Leighton Coats of Fallbrook; brother and sisters-in-law Walter Satler of Huntington Beach, Dorothy Boehlke of Oceanside and William Boehlke and Betty McNeer, both of Lake Tahoe; grandchildren Marilyn Rohrer and Carrie Torres; and great-grandchildren Krystal Rohrer, Lewis Rohrer, Jennifer Rohrer, John Torres and Lexi Torres.
A funeral service was held Saturday, April 15, at Faith Lutheran Church in Vista, with Vicar Nathan Killian officiating. Burial took place Friday, May 5, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma, with the Rev. James Conte officiating.

Born April 24, 1934, in New York City, she lived in Escondido for three years. She was a real estate broker for 18 years.
Mrs. Lambert is survived by her husband of 27 years, Tom Lambert of Escondido; and stepmother Betty Stein of Los Angeles.
