Born Feb. 23, 1906, in Italy, she lived in Vista for 34 years.
Mrs. La Mattino is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Eleanor La Mattino of Carlsbad; sister Caroline Lombardi of Newport Beach; grandchildren Donna Pagakis and Laura and Linda La Mattino; and great-grandchildren Andrew and Rebecca Pagakis.
Visitation and viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 7 p.m., today, May 13, at Eternal Hills Chapel. A Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 15, at Mission San Luis Rey, with the Rev. Vincent Hughes officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at Calvary Cemetery in Waterbury, Conn.

VISTA - Brad Bates Sr., 73, died Thursday, May 4, 2000, at Palomar Continuing Care in Escondido.
Born May 24, 1926, in Mansfield, La., he lived in Vista for one year. He was a first class cook for the U.S. Navy Department of Defense, retiring in 1966.
Mr. Bates is survived by his former wife, Mary L. Bates of Vista; son Brad Bates Jr. of Vista; daughter Diana Bates of Vista; stepdaughter Sylvia Fox of Vista; brothers Paul Bates of San Jose and "T" Bates and Willie Bates, both of Dallas; granddaughter Demelo Young of Santee; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 11, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma. Interment

OCEANSIDE - Anna E. Barkley, 69, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, in Oceanside.
Born Jan. 18, 1931, in Springfield, Ohio, she lived in Oceanside for 42 years. She was a homemaker for 42 years and an artist, specializing in China painting.
Mrs. Barkley was preceded in death by her husband, Lee V. Barkley, in April 1998. She is survived by her son, Chris Barkley of Carlsbad; daughter and son-in-law Lora Barkley-Reece and Jeffrey Reece of Vista; brother and sister-in-law Edward and Delia-Anne Granger of Warriors Mark, Pa.; and sisters Claudine Houston of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Mary Sayers of Springfield, Ohio.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. today, May 13, at the First Lutheran Church in Vista, with the Rev. Steve Awbrby officiating. A private inurnment will take place at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

RAMONA - Rose M. Hensley, 70, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at a local convalescent hospital.
Born Feb. 13, 1930, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was a homemaker for many years.
Mrs. Hensley was preceded in death by her son, Mark Hensley, in April 1979. She is survived by her son, Edward Hensley of Palm Springs; daughters Luann Hensley of Ramona and Patricia Hash of Huntington Beach; and two grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, at Nuevo Memory Gardens, with the Rev. Tom Anderson of the New Life Assembly of God Church, officiating. She will be buried with her late son.

SAN MARCOS - Maude Loretta Hernam, 89, died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at her home.
Born Oct. 5, 1910, in Chicago, she lived in San Diego County for 39 years. She was a beautician for Look Rite Beauty Salon in Escondido for 15 years and was a member of Emmanuel Faith Community Church, the Whirlway Square Dance Club, Palomar Old Car Club and the Reche Old School Club in Fallbrook.
Mrs. Hernam is survived by her daughters, Barbara E. Rowell of San Marcos and Carolyn Boshnyak of Columbia, N.D.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at noon Monday, May 15, at the San Marcos Community Center. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at San Marcos Cemetery.

Glen Jansen, 87
ENCINITAS - Glen Elvin Jansen, 87, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, in a rest home in Encinitas.
He was born Nov. 30, 1912, in Greenwich, Kan., and graduated from Benton High School in 1932. He worked for the University of California, La Jolla Campus and was a member of San Dieguito Masonic Lodge 775, Cardiff; Sunflower Lodge 86, Wichita, Kan.; Scottish Rite of San Diego; Al Bahr Shrine, San Diego; and Order of the Eastern Star, Poinsettia Chapter 287, Oceanside.
Mr. Jansen was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Harley and Les Jansen. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Nadine Jansen of Cardiff.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 14, at the Encinitas Mortuary. A funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. Monday, May 15, at the Encinitas Mortuary. Interment

LAKE ELSINORE - Blaque Bauman, 62, died Monday, May 8, 2000.
Born Oct. 10, 1937, he lived in Lake Elsinore. He was a volunteer at Inland Valley Medical Center for 15 years and served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Bauman is survived by his wife, Helen Bauman, of Lake Elsinore; and one daughter of Arizona.
A memorial service will be held at a future date at the home of Helen Bauman.
John E. Lloyd, 75
TEMECULA - John E. Lloyd, 75, died Monday, May 8, 2000, of pancreatic cancer, at Beverly Healthcare in Murrieta.
Born in the San Fernando Valley, he lived in Temecula for 24 years. He was co-owner of the Lloyd-Francis Grove Management business for 10 years and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, receiving a Purple Heart after his ship was sunk in the Philippines. He was past president of the Lemon Men's Club of California and of the Temecula Rotary Club. He was a Rotarian for 47 years. He graduated from California State Polytechnic University at San Luis Obispo with a degree in citrus production and taught at the university for three years.
Mr. Lloyd is survived by his wife, Patti Lloyd; daughters Laurie Mack of Fallbrook, Nancy Lloyd of Durango, Colo., and Jayne Kerner of Ramona; sister Ethel Erickson of Hacienda Heights; and four grandchildren.
A private service will be held at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma.

VISTA - Joseph Mason Rush, 78, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at his home.
Born Nov. 25, 1921, in Bloomington, Ind., he lived in San Diego County for 39 years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars, retiring after 20 years. He was a life member of Harmony Masonic Lodge 22 in Beaufort, S.C.; a charter member of Black Mountain Masonic Lodge 845 in Mira Mesa; a member of Watchmen Shepherd Imnash Shrine; a member of White Shrine of Jerusalem in Chula Vista, Pointsettia Chapter; and a member of Order of Eastern Star in Oceanside.
Mr. Rush is survived by his wife, Maxine L. Rush of Vista; sons Douglas R. Rush of Sand Springs, Okla., Richard M. Rush of Vista and Michael Rush of Bloomington, Ind.; sister Mary Loftin of Alamorgordo, N.M.; and nine grandchildren.

LAKE ELSINORE - Garland Mayfield, 74, died Monday, May 8, 2000, of cardiac arrest, at his home.
Born Jan. 4, 1926, in Dewar, Okla., he lived at Lake Elsinore for 12 years. He was a day laborer for 50 years in various locations and served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Mayfield is survived by his brothers, Charles Mayfield of Canyon Lake, Leonard Mayfield of Bellflower, Edgar Mayfield of Lakewood and Willis Mayfield of Hemet; and sisters Thelma Mayfield of Corona, Joanne Jacobson of California, Hazel Jenkins of Broken Arrow, Okla., Pearl Harris of Modesto, Welma Johnson of McMinnville, Ore., and Juanita Ameriz of Tucson, Ariz.

Leonard Siva, 71
VALLEY CENTER - Leonard Manuel Siva, 71, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, of leukemia, at his home.
Born Sept. 26, 1928, at the Pala Indian Reservation, he lived in Valley Center. He worked in highway maintenance for Cal Trans and was a member of the Rincon Band of Mission Indians, living at the Morongo Indian Reservation for 30 years. He coached Little League in Banning for almost 30 years.
Mr. Siva was preceded in death by his sons, James B. Siva, in 1980, and Phil G. Siva, in 1999. He is survived by his companion, Kathleen Biondi of Pala; daughters Sarah Siva and Ann Sue Nelson, both of Banning; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be held and a rosary was recited Friday, May 12, at the Pala Indian Reservation Tribal Hall. A Mass was celebrated Saturday, May 13, at Mission San Antonio de Pala. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Pala Indian Cemetery.

Born Nov. 7, 1901, in Washington, D.C., she lived in Fallbrook for seven years. She was a payroll supervisor for the Weather Bureau.
Mrs. Alexander was preceded in death by her husband, Grafton E. Alexander, in 1988. She is survived by her son, James C. Alexander of Sun Valley; daughters Frances L. Picker of Fallbrook; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Born Nov. 29, 1957, in London, she lived in Escondido for 10 years. She was a word processor for Applied Data Technologies and graduated from the University of Maryland in 1978.
Mrs. Levering was preceded in death by her father, Edgar Fuller, in 1977. She is survived by her husband of eight years, Roy B. Levering of Escondido; mother Nina Fuller of Escondido; brother Rodney Fuller of Florida; and sister Delores Bickers of Pennsylvania.

SAN MARCOS - Elizabeth Ruggero, 85, died Friday, May 12, 2000, at a local hospital.
Born April 25, 1915, in Elizabeth, N.J., she lived in San Marcos for 18 years. She was a homemaker for 65 years and a member of Grace Presbyterian Church and Order of the Eastern Star in Raleigh, N.C. She was president of San Marcos Women's Club from 1993 to 1994.
Mrs. Ruggero is survived by her husband of 65 years, Robert C. Ruggero of San Marcos; son and daughter-in-law Robert L. and Mary Jane Ruggero of Endwell, N.Y.; daughter JoAnn Shernoff of Ridgway, Colo.; brother Stephen Phillips of Linden, N.J.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today, May 16, at Allen Brothers Mortuary, San Marcos Chapel, with the Rev. Sam Brumit officiating. A private cremation is planned with cremains to be scattered at sea.
