ESCONDIDO - Marvin R. Clark, 87, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, at Palomar Health Care Center.
Born May 26, 1913, in Kingsley, Iowa, he lived in Escondido for 29 years. He was a television repairman for L.K. Television for 30 years before retiring and a member of the Mason/Shriners and the House of Prayer Church in Escondido.
Mr. Clark was preceded in death by his daughter, Judith Ann Clark, in 1999. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen Clark of Escondido; sons Robert Clark of Beverly Hills, William Clark of Ramona and James G. Clark of San Diego; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

William Evans, 76
SAN JACINTO - William T. Evans, 76, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, at his home.
Born in Parkersburg, W.Va., he lived in Encinitas and Elfin Forest since 1946 before moving to San Jacinto. He was a service writer for Volkswagen in Oceanside, El Cajon and Kearny Mesa and worked at General Dynamics in San Diego. He had a taxi service in Encinitas. He played in the musical group The Four Sharps for 35 years and was a life member of the Musicians Union and a member of the Elks Lodge in Oceanside and Encinitas. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1941 to 1946.
Mr. Evans is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jean Evans of San Jacinto; sons David Evans, Gary Evans, Kenneth Evans and Donald Evans.

Verna Bethune, 73
ESCONDIDO - Verna G. Bethune, 73, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, at Escondido Care Center.
Born Sept. 19, 1927, in Quebec, she lived in Escondido for five years. She was a homemaker for 20 years.
Mrs. Bethune is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Janet Bethune of Escondido; daughter and son-in-law Julie and Maurice Mora of Pasadena; brothers Darrel Maloney of Everett, Wash., Lanny Maloney of Ontario, Canada, and Richard Maloney of Quebec; sisters Thelma Simpson of Burney, Luena Darr of Pittsburgh, Thelma Simpson of Nova Scotia, Sylvia Doyle of British Columbia and Lorna Miller of Ontario; and grandchildren Jeffrey Bethune and Laurel Bethune, both of Escondido.
Burial will take place at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Clara Olson, 95
RAMONA - Clara Emilie Olson, 95, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, at Pomerado Hospital.
born Oct. 31, 1904, in Valley City, N.D., she lived in Ramona for 15 years and had lived in Garden Grove for 40 years. She was a riveter and inspector for McDonnell Douglas during World War II and was involved with 4-H and basketball in high school. She enjoyed cooking, taking care of elderly people and motorhome campouts. She was a member of Grace Community Church, serving in the Sunday school and the Recharger and Bible study groups. She was also a member of the Methodist Church and the Ramona Women's Club.
Mrs. Olson was preceded in death by her husband of more than 60 years, Leonard C. Olson. She is survived by her sons, Merle E. Olson of Ramona and Donald F. Olson of Rancho Bernardo; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Nov. 2, at Bonham Bros. & Lee Ramona Mortuary. A funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, at the mortuary. A graveside service and committal will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at Fairhaven Memorial Park in Santa Ana, where she will be buried next to her husband.

RAMONA - Norbert F. Dietsch Jr., 78, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000, at Pomerado Hospital.
Born June 17, 1922, in Pennsylvania, he lived in Ramona for one year. He was a systems analyst for Hamilton Standard.
Inurnment took place at Greenwood Cemetery in Avon, Conn.

James Taylor, 45
SAN DIEGO - James Duffey Taylor, 45, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at his home.
Born Feb. 21, 1955, in Houston, he lived in San Diego for 13 years. He was a technical manager for Pacific Bell Co. for 22 years and graduated in 1973 from Patrick Henry High School. He earned a degree from Mesa college and served as a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, Air National Guard.
Mr. Taylor is survived by his wife of 20 years, Karen Olga Taylor of San Diego; son James Daniel Taylor of San Diego; daughter Ashley Rose Taylor of San Diego; brothers William Rex Taylor of Beaverton, Ore., and Thomas Richard Taylor of Santee; and sister Linda Dalene Cruson of El Cajon.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Rancho Penasquitos. Burial will follow at Dearborn Memorial Park.

SAN MARCOS - David K. Pinney, 49, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, at his home.
Born July 21, 1951, in Pensacola, Fla., he lived in San Marcos for 18 years. He was a machinist for Microradian Instruments.
Mr. Pinney was preceded in death by his mother, Lyn Pinney, in 1998. He is survived by his father, Robert K. Pinney of Pensacola; brothers and sisters-in-law Dr. William and Van Pinney of Natchez, Miss., and Guy and Sue Pinney and Steve and Gwen Pinney, all of Pensacola; sister and brother-in-law Martha and Gil Aguayo of Orange Park, Fla.; and friends Terry Painter, Leonard Novet, Martha Siler, Byron Forney, Sherry Trimble and Rick Francis.
No service will be held at the request of the deceased. A private cremation is planned.

ESCONDIDO - Jose Manuel Barreto, 76, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, in Escondido.
Born Nov. 12, 1923, in Puerto Rico, he lived in Escondido for two months. He was a machine shop operator for Lucent Technologies and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Barreto is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carmen Barreto of San Diego; son Victor M. Barreto of Puerto Rico; daughters Carmen Barreto-Davis of San Diego, Mildred Ocasio of St. Louis, Gladys Barreto of Miami and Elizabeth Barreto of Puerto Rico; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 3, at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Burial will follow.

POWAY - John V. "Jack" Nelson, 80, died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, at Villa Pomerado.
Born May 31, 1920, in Calhan, Colo., he lived in Poway for one year and in Rancho Bernardo for 24 years. He was a senior check captain for Pan American before retiring. He enjoyed dancing.
Mr. Nelson was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Mary Ellen Nelson, on Oct. 8, 1999. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, John Vernon Jr. and Vickie Nelson of Plano, Texas, and David Andrew and Kathy Nelson of Camarillo; daughters and son-in-law Donna Louise and Jack Wilkinson of Fresno, Christy Saylor Nelson of San Diego and Margaret Lee Nelson of Mill Valley; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held. A private burial at sea is planned.

SOLANA BEACH - Bonny Jean Geddie, 75, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at her home.
Born Nov. 17, 1924, in San Diego, she grew up in Encinitas. She worked for Afton'sFashions, Third Bird.
Mrs. Geddie was preceded in death by her sons, Harry Hill and Rex Hill; sister Maxine Truax Limon; and brother James Truax. She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Jeff Hill of Brisbane, Australia, and James and Tina Geddie of Lake Elsinore; daughter Devin Hill Weber of Solana Beach; brother and sister-in-law Rex and Alberta Truax of Red Bluff; twin sister and brother-in-law Betty Jo and Leo Swaim of Carlsbad; grandchildren Molly McPhee, Rachel, Rebecca and Daniel Hill and Harry and Hayden Hill; and many nieces and nephews.
A private cremation is planned with cremains to be scattered at sea.

Jacqueline Rhine, 67
FALLBROOK - Jacqueline M. Rhine, 67, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2000 in Pahrump, Nev.
Born Dec. 12, 1932, in San Pedro, she lived in Fallbrook for five years. She graduated from UCLA in 1954 and received her master of arts degree from Pepperdine College. She was an elementary teacher and taught child observation classes to adults for the Los Angeles school system before retiring in 1981. She was a member of Mission San Luis Rey Catholic Church.
Mrs. Rhine was preceded in death by her brother, James P. Marincovich of Torrance. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Hollis H. Rhine; daughters Holly C. Romer of Palmdale and Margarethe L. Lycett of Chino Hills; brothers Andrew P. Marincovich and Paul A. Marincovich, both of San Pedro; four grandchildren; and five nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at Mission San Luis Rey Chapel. Interment
will take place at a later date.

OCEANSIDE - Dora Lavina Healton, 87, died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, at Brighton Gardens in Carlsbad.
Born Nov. 28, 1912, in Los Angeles, she lived in Oceanside for 35 years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Healton was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Everett Healton, in 1977. She is survived by her daughters, Jean Burton of Oceanside and Barbara Shaw of Rohnert Park; brother Raymond Thornton of Garden Grove; sister Myrtle Moline of Paradise; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Elaine Burgess, 65
SAN MARCOS - Elaine Mary Burgess, 65, died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, at her home.
Born July 15, 1935, in Mount Clemens, Mich., she lived in San Marcos for nine years. She was a packer for Boney's Market for one year and was a member of Valley Bible Church in San Marcos.
Mrs. Burgess is survived by her husband of more than 49 years, Elza "Al" F. Burgess Jr. of San Marcos; son and daughter-in-law Jim L. and Linda Burgess of San Marcos; daughters and sons-in-law Sherry and Bob Blankenship of Carlsbad and Debbie and Dan Bastain of Las Vegas; brothers Russell Pierce of Clinton Township, Mich., Floyd Pierce and Raymond Pierce, both of Washington, Mich., and David Pierce of China, Mich.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at Valley Bible Church in San Marcos, with the Rev. Bill Farrell officiating. A private cremation with interment is planned.

Robert Marsala, 66
ESCONDIDO - Robert Emanuel Marsala, 66, died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, of cancer, at his home.
Born Jan. 6, 1934, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he lived in Escondido for 37 years. He was an English teacher and an aviation flight instructor at Orange Glen High School for 35 years before retiring in 1996. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1953.
Mr. Marsala is survived by his companion, Kathleen Kirkindal of Escondido; son David Daniel Marsala of Escondido; daughters and son-in-law Sharon Lyn and Al Martinez and Kathryn Marie Marsala Toscano, all of Escondido; brothers and sisters-in-law Phil and Bonnie Marsala of Salt Lake City and Richard and Joan Marsala of Escondido; sister and brother-in-law Joan and Phil Abbinatti of Diamond Bar; and grandchildren Aaron, Juliana, Jessica and Marcy Nemish and Ashley and Eliott Toscano and Ryan and Heather Marsala.

ESCONDIDO - Charlotte Tipton, 84, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, in Rancho Bernardo.
Born July 16, 1916, in Rockford, Iowa, she lived in Escondido for two years. She worked for White Sands of La Jolla before retiring.
Mrs. Tipton was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Tipton, in September. She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Judy Murphy of Escondido, Ronald Murphy of Prescott, Ariz., and Raymond Tipton of Twin Cities, Minn.; daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Al Zieman of Rochester, Minn.; brothers and sisters-in-law Dan and Edna Hartwell of Mason City, Iowa, and Paul and Gerda Hartwell of Clear Lake, Iowa; sister and brother-in-law Helen and Steve Crowell of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; 20 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

ESCONDIDO - Gerald Keith Kerbs, 66, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, at Scripps Green Hospital in La Jolla.
Born May 26, 1934, in Claflin, Kan., he lived in Escondido for 30 years.
He was the western regional manager for S&K Sales for 14 years and was a member of the Church of the Resurrection in Escondido.
Mr. Kerbs is survived by his wife of 43 years, Virginia "Jane" Kerbs of Escondido; sons and daughter-in-law Michael and Suzy Kerbs of Riverside and Timothy Kerbs of Escondido; daughters and son-in-law Lisa Fitzpatrick of Escondido and Laurie and Tim Dolan of High Point, N.C.; brother Warren Kerbs of Oviedo, Fla.; sisters Alice Hopkins of Overland Park, Kan., and Darlene Mathers of Great Bend, Kan.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A prayer service was held Tuesday, Oct. 31, at Church of the Resurrection in Escondido. A funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, at Church of the Resurrection, with the Rev. Neal Dolan officiating. Interment
followed at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
