Born Jan. 24, 1940, in Philadelphia, she lived in Sun City for six years. She was a homemaker for 10 years and enjoyed reading, analyzing the stock market and boating and fishing.
Mrs. Blair is survived by her husband, Lloyd Blair of Lancaster; sons Russ Kindorf of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Richard Kindorf of Coto de Casa; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 27, at Evans Brown Sun City Mortuary.

Fred Whiting, 44
OCEANSIDE - Fred Rick Whiting, 44, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, of a heart attack, in Oceanside.
Born Dec. 13, 1955, in Lowville, N.Y., he lived in Carlsbad and Oceanside for 42 years. He was a heavy equipment operator.
Mr. Whiting was preceded in death by his father, Frederick Harvey Whiting, on Nov. 12, 1977; and his brother, Casey Sullivan Whiting, on May 31, 1998. He is survived by his mother, Claire Dufner of Las Vegas; son Travis Whiting of Oceanside; and sister and brother-in-law Trudy Whiting Madieros and Rick Madieros of South Lake Tahoe.
A graveside service was held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, at Fallbrook Masonic Cemetery, where he was buried beside his brother. Another graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24, at Fallbrook Masonic Cemetery.

Francisco Hernandez, 79
ENCINITAS - Francisco Hernandez Jr., 79, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, at Scripps Hospital in La Jolla.
Born July 6, 1921, in Del Mar, he lived in Encinitas for 79 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a warehouseman at the Camp Pendleton self-service store.
Mr. Hernandez is survived by his wife, Mary Hernandez of Encinitas; sons and daughters-in-law Dan and Norma Hernandez of San Diego, Frank and Virginia Hernandez III of Oregon and Don and Camille Hernandez of Vista; daughter Dee Dee Camarena of Encinitas; brothers and sisters-in-law Domingo Hernandez and Joe and Ruby Hernandez, all of Vista , Thomas and Mary Hernandez of Solana Beach, Refugio and Francisca Hernandez of Tijuana, Mexico, and Ramona and Francis Hernandez of Temecula; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation and viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., with a rosary recited from 7 to 8 p.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 28, at Eternal Hills Mortuary. A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, at St. John's Catholic Church in Encinitas, with the Rev. Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Bernice Philipps, 90
VISTA - Bernice C. Philipps, 90, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000.
Born Jan. 4, 1910, she lived in North County for the last 15 years. She served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force in Europe, India and China, and was stationed at the Pentagon and the space system division in Los Angeles. She was the only woman to assist in the formation of NATO. She retired Feb. 29, 1964.
Ms. Philipps is survived by her sister, Rosella P. Benike of Vista; brother Joseph F. Philipps of Oak Park, Ill.; six nieces and nephews; nine great-nieces and nephews; and friends Elmer and Mary Lou Rasmuson, Ben and Jo Ann Pynes and Maria Artmeier.
A funeral service was held Friday, Nov. 17, at Rose Hills Mortuary in San Pedro. Burial followed.

Janet Fuess, 57
CLOVIS - Janet Kathleen Fuess, 57, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, in Clovis.
Born May 7, 1943, in Glendale, she lived in Clovis for six months and had lived in North County. She worked for Pacific Bell.
Mrs. Fuess is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Gregg and Lisa Fuess of Murrieta and Kurt Fuess of San Diego; daughter and son-in-law Dena and Lee Langevin of Clovis; sisters and brothers-in-law Peggy and Lowell Arnold of Littleton, Colo., and Deb and Bill Neale of Corona; and grandchildren Nicholas, Jacob and Cody.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, at Berry-Bell & Hall Fallbrook Mortuary. A private cremation is planned, with cremains to be scattered at sea.

Born Feb. 15, 1921, in Bourbon, Ore., she lived in Ramona for seven years.
Mrs. Barker-Weiker is survived by her sons, Richard Barker, Jeffrey Barker and Leslie Barker; daughter Laura Kesterson; and grandchildren Chris Jahnz, Jake Kesterson and Matt and Luke Barker.

ESCONDIDO - Dorothy H. Fay, 95, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, in Escondido.
Born Jan. 15, 1905, in Beaver Falls, Pa., she lived in Escondido for 15 years. She was a switchboard operator for the Youngstown Police Department.
Mrs. Fay is survived by her daughter, Jaclyn F. West of Poway.
No service will be held at the request of the deceased. Her cremains will be scattered at sea.

George Coover, 82
SAN MARCOS - George L. Coover, 82, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, at his home.
Born March 7, 1918, in Bismarck, N.D., he lived in San Marcos for four years. He was an electrician for Del Black Electric before retiring in 1986. He served as an electrician's mate in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Eastern Star and Demolay.
Mr. Coover was preceded in death by his brother, Clarence Coover, in May. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Paula L. Coover of San Marcos; sons and daughter-in-law Russell and Cathie Coover of La Habra and Paul Coover of Houston; stepson Steven Griffith of Spring Valley; daughter and son-in-law Jean and John Smith of Norwalk; brother and sister-in-law Robert and Connie Pecht of Redding; grandchildren Stacy Bigham, Christy Whittaker, Brian Casey and Samantha, Stevie and Dean Griffith; and great-grandchildren Michael and Matthew Bigham.

Joseph O'Leary, 73
ESCONDIDO - Joseph Francis O'Leary, 73, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, at his home.
Born May 1, 1927, in New York, he lived in Escondido for 17 years. He served in the U.S. Navy as a seaman 1st class during World War II and the Korean War, retiring in 1982. He is a member of the Resurrection Church in Escondido and enjoyed square dancing.
Mr. O'Leary was preceded in death by his son, Lawrence O'Leary, in September 1979. He is survived by his son, Joseph O'Leary of Escondido; daughters and sons-in-law Jeanne O'Leary of Pauma Valley, Bernadette and Mark Hilb and Geraldine and Richard Mantle, all of New Jersey, Ellen O'Leary and Maureen and Rodney Bass, all of Escondido; brothers and sister-in-law Vincent O'Leary and Richard and Joan O'Leary, all of New York; sisters and brother-in-law Eleanor Johnson of New Jersey, Katherine and James Blythe of Long Island and Eileen O'Leary of New York; and grandchildren Adelle, Allison, Thea and Graham Mantle and Thomas Hilb.

Born Nov. 17, 1977, in Mexico, she lived in Oceanside for nine years.
Ms. Preciado is survived by her mother and father, Olivia M. and Jose M. Preciado of Oceanside; brothers Jose G. Preciado, Mario Preciado and Gerardo Preciado, all of Oceanside; sisters Daisy Preciado and Romelia Preciado, both of Oceanside; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A vigil service will be held from 5 to 8:45 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Carlsbad.

FALLBROOK - Helen McNab Short Gates, 93, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, in Fallbrook.
Born May 16, 1907, in Dumfries, Scotland, she lived in Fallbrook for 46 years. She owned Helen Gates Real Estate in Fallbrook for 35 years. She was a charter member of the Fallbrook Presbyterian Church, charter member and past president of the Soroptomist Club of Fallbrook, past president of the Fallbrook Real Estate Association and honorary life member of the California Association of Realtors.
Mrs. Gates is survived by her daughter, Norma M. Kruse of Fallbrook; sisters Edith E. Leonard of Ojai and Marjorie Galloway of Fallbrook; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held Thursday, Nov. 16, at Berry-Bell & Hall Fallbrook Mortuary. A funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at the Fallbrook Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Peter Hintzoglou officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at Bellevue Cemetery in Bellevue, Neb.

RANCHO BERNARDO - Joe Riley Pietrzyk, 41, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, in Poway.
Born Sept. 9, 1959, in Mobile, Ala., he lived in Rancho Bernardo for 11 years. He was a research and development engineer at Hewlett Packard and a board member of the Christian Family Movement at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Poway.
Dr. Pietrzyk was preceded in death by his mother, Daressia Pearl Pietrzyk. He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Sue Pietrzyk of Rancho Bernardo; father Mitchell Pietrzyk of Alabama; son Kyle Pietrzyk of Rancho Bernardo; daughter Amber Pietrzyk of Rancho Bernardo; brothers Mike Pietrzyk of Virginia, Dr. Edward Pietrzyk of Alabama and Billy Wells of New Jersey; and sister Michelle Pietrzyk of Alabama.

Born May 16, 1907, in Mexico, she lived in Oceanside for 70 years. He was retired from El Toro restaurant and was a member of Guadalup Guild of St. Mary's Star of the Sea.
Mrs. Figueroa was precede in death by her husband, Theodore Figueroa in 1980 and her daughter, Emilia Leon in 1965. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Herman and Josephine Alvarez of Oceanside; daughter, Rosa Strickland of Crestline; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

RAMONA -- Louis Shuffler Rosengren, 79 died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000.
Born Dec. 12, 1920, in Lakota, North Dakota, she lived in Ramona since the early 80s and lived in Solana Beach previously. She retired after teaching for 32 years in the Solana Beach School District.
Mrs. Rosengren is survived by her husband, Milton Rosengren daughters Connie Signs and Dixie Morre; son Steve Hays; stepson, Dennis Rosengren; brother Chet Loften; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 24, at First Congregational Church, 404 8th Street, Ramona.
Audrie Ulmer, 81
ESCONDIDO -- Audrie Gardam Ulmer, 81, died Monday, Nov. 20, 2000 at her home of Pancreatic cancer.
Born Nov. 20, 1919, in New Jersey she was a resident of Escondido for 24 years. She retired in 1969 from Friends' Central School in Philadelphia, where she was a director of Alumni Relations. She did Real Estate sales in San Diego county and was an art and antique collector and enthusiast.
Mrs. Ulmer is survived by her husband of 59 years, J. Walter Ulmer of Escondido; son, W. Richard Ulmer of Villa Park; daughter, Carolyn Ulmer Gorman of Lotus; grandchildren, Karen Ulmer Mohr and W. Richard Ulmer; and great-grandchildren Alyssa and Alexandra Mohr.

VISTA -- Charles Edward Bronson, 95, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000.
Born Oct. 15, 1905, in Atononilco, Pachuca, Mexico, he was a resident of Vista. He was a mining engineer and worked in various mines in Arizona, including Bisbee, Jerome and Ajo. He last worked for Cassiar Asbestos Corporation in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Mr. Bronson was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ellen Bronson in 1997. He is survived by his brother Lansing H. Bronson; sister-in-law Marjorie Bronson, nephews Charles and Gary Bronson; nieces, Mary Sue Bronson Gann and Carol Bronson Collins, grand nephews and nieces, Corbin Lansing Bronson, Philip Bronson, Dashiell and Kristian Gann, Maureen Fanion, Eric Collins and Heather Stone.

RAMONA -- Ruth "Muffy" Hill, 85, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, at her residence.
Born June 21, 1915, in Streeter, Ill., she was a resident of Ramona for 59 years. She was an active member of the First Congregational Church where she played the organ for many years and also accompanied her husband who was a soloist. She was a pianist for her husband's band which played at the Wagon Wheel (now Mulvaneys) in Santee for many years.
Mrs. Hill was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Melvin M. Hill on July 4, 1990. She is survived by her son, Mel M. Hill of Romana; daughters Harryette Hungerford of Huntington Beach, Linda Mitchell of Monroe, Utah, Penny Woodard of La Mesa and Debbie Cravo of Ramona; sisters, Vera Wadleigh of Costa Mesa and Mary Badger of Santa Rosa; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28 at the First Congregational Church with the Rev. Alex Dreese officiating. A private committal service and burial will follow at Nuevo Memory Gardens.
