Mary Ann Schoell, 691

DEL MAR - Mary Ann Schoell, 69, died Thursday, March 30, 2000.

Born in Buffalo, N.Y., she lived in Del Mar, having moved to San Diego in 1957. She attended Buffalo State Teachers College, graduating with a degree in home economics. She did graduate work at the University of Southern California. She received a master's degree from United States International University. She taught home economics at San Dieguito High School and was a charter faculty member at Torrey Pines High School, retiring after 38 years. She was honored as mentor teacher by Torrey Pines High School and named one of the 25 people who had the most positive influence on the school's quality of education by Torrey Pines Foundation. She attended Cordon Bleu Ecole De Cuisine in Paris and was a volunteer for Mission Circle, teaching women living in poverty how to sew and setting up cottage industries in three barrios.

Mrs. Schoell is survived by her husband, Donald Schoell; son Mark Schoell of Escondido; daughters Kathleen Bennett and Ann Reppun, both of San Francisco; brother Richard Lansill of Snyder, N.Y.; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 6, at Encinitas Mortuary. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 7, at St. James Catholic Church in Solana Beach, followed by a gathering at the Schoell home.

The family suggests memorial donations to Mission Circle, c/o St. James Catholic Church, 625 S. Nardo, Solana Beach, CA 92075.

Elizabeth Brainard, 50

RAMONA - Elizabeth Carrisoza Brainard, 50, died Friday, March 31, 2000, at a local hospital.

Born June 26, 1949, in San Diego, she lived in Ramona for many years. She graduated from Ramona High School in 1967 and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Brainard is survived by her husband, Edward Brainard; mother Henrietta Edwards of Ramona; sons Paul Weldin Jr. of Missouri, Don henry Weldin of Arizona and Alex Little Hawk Carrisoza of Seattle; daughters Laura Murray of Seattle, Janet Britto of Seattle and Chery Weldin of California; brothers Michael Edwards and Joe Edwards, both of Ramona, Robert Edwards of Bartlesville, Okla., and Lucas Edwards of Tucson, Ariz.; sisters Susan Westervelt of Las Vegas, Linda Linton and Brenda Osuna, both of Santa Ysabel, Donna Hooper, Mary Edwards and Shirley Ortiz, all of Vista, and Leslie Schultz of Michigan; five grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday, April 7, at Bonham Bros. & Lee Ramona Chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 8, at Santa Ysabel Indian Mission. Burial will follow at Santa Ysabel Indian Cemetery.

Geraldene McRae, 74

CARLSBAD - Geraldene Mae McRae, 74, died Monday, April 3, 2000, in Vista.

Born Feb. 23, 1926, in Ramona, Kan., she lived in Carlsbad for 27 years. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. McRae is survived by her husband of 53 years, Thomas McRae of Carlsbad; son Thomas L. McRae of Rochester Hills, Mich.; daughter Janet Leininger of Fort Wayne, Ind.; brother Verdin Liddell of Rapid City, S.D.; and four grandchildren.

Viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, at Oceanside Mortuary. A funeral service will take place Saturday, April 8, at Herington, Kan. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Herington.

Bernice Steward, 85

ESCONDIDO - Bernice Steward, 85, died Monday, April 3, 2000, in Escondido.

Born Feb. 2, 1915, in Iowa, she lived in Escondido for three years. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Steward is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Charles Port of Escondido; sisters Laura Cox of Missouri and Lillian Vondall of Iowa; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, April 6, at Parent Sorensen Mortuary and Crematory in Petaluma. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, April 7, at Parent Sorensen Mortuary and Crematory. Burial will follow at Cypress Hill Memorial Park in Petaluma.

Marie Augestad, 70

ESCONDIDO - Marie Augestad, 70, died Thursday, March 30, 2000, in Escondido.

Born July 22, 1929, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she lived in Escondido for three years. She was a homemaker and retired business owner.

Mrs. Augestad is survived by her husband of 48 years, Sverre "Augie" Augestad of Escondido; son and daughter-in-law Robert and Cindy Augestad of Marietta, Ga.; daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Andy LaPay of Eagle, Ohio; sister and brother-in-law Sylvia and Charlie Barillari of Pompano Beach; and grandchildren David, Stephen, Nathan, Dana and James.

Viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today, April 5, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary. A cryptside service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, April 6, at El Camino Memorial Park in San Diego.

The family suggests memorial donations to People Helping People, 20997 Black Canyon Road, Ramona, CA 92070.

Lillian Ezust, 89

LAKE ELSINORE - Lillian Alice Ezust, 89, died Friday, March 31, 2000, of an embolism in the lung at Inland Valley Regional Medical Center.

Born Jan. 27, 1911, in New York City, she lived at Lake Elsinore for 20 years. She was a secretary for the U.S. government in Pennsylvania for 45 years.

Mrs. Ezust is survived by her husband, Joseph Ezust of Lake Elsinore; son Dr. Paul Ezust of Cambridge, Mass.; daughter Dr. Stephanie Ezust of Decatur, Ga.; and two grandchildren.

Burial will take place at Riverside National Cemetery.

Roy Stokes, 73

TEMECULA - Roy L. Stokes, 73, died Thursday, March 30, 2000, of a heart attack, at his home.

Born Feb. 28, 1927, in Monett, Mo., he lived in Temecula for six years. He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific from 1945 to 1946 and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Redondo Beach, Scottish Rite in Long Beach, Shriners of Anaheim and the Temecula Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and American Legion.

Mr. Stokes is survived by his wife, Lois Stokes of Temecula; son Brian Stokes of Lakewood; daughters Terry Conkey of Quartz Hill and Leslie Martin of Temecula; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 5, at Stout Family Funeral Home in Temecula. Burial will follow at 12:15 p.m. at Temecula Cemetery.

Pauline Farmer, 89

MURRIETA - Pauline E. Farmer, 89, died Saturday, April 1, 2000, at her home in Murrieta.

Born July 6, 1910, in Oklahoma, she lived in Murrieta for four years. She was an office manager for Garrett Airesearch and worked for Redondo Tile before retiring.

Mrs. Farmer is survived by her son, Gary Farmer of Murrieta; daughters Carol Starling of Richmond, Va., and Joyce Huegel of Parker, Colo.; brother Harold Caskey of Collinsville Okla.; sisters Helen Bengs of Fayetteville, N.C., and Rosalee Adams of Oklahoma City, Okla.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorial donations to Hospice of the Valley, 26936 Cherry Hills Blvd., Sun City, A 92586.

James Jost, 80

FALLBROOK - James Joseph Jost, 80, died Sunday, April 2, 2000, at his home in Fallbrook.

Born Aug. 23, 1919, in Chicago, he lived in Fallbrook for one year. He worked in transportation and civil service for the U.S. government.

Mr. Jost is survived by his daughters, Sherry Corn of Murrieta and Beverly McDowell of Fallbrook; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A private family service is planned.

Sandra Schall-Trainer, 38
CERES - Sandra Ann Schall-Trainer, 38, died Sunday, April 2, 2000, in an auto accident in Vernalis.

Born Feb. 12, 1962, in Montrose, Pa., she lived in Ceres for 10 years. She was a retail manager.

Ms. Schall-Trainer is survived by her mother and stepfather, Barbara and Ernest Murillo of Yorba Linda; father and stepmother Thomas and Edith Schall of Padre Island, Texas; son Travis Trainer of Oceanside; daughter Ashley Trainer of Oceanside; brothers Tim Schall and Terry Schall, both of Aliso Viejo; and sister and brother-in-law Kathy and David Oldenburg of San Marcos.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 7, at Eternal Hills Mortuary, with Chaplain Robert Satterfield, USN Ret., officiating.

Interment will take place at Eternal Hills at a date to be determined.

Neva Goodwin, 89

ESCONDIDO - Neva Garner Goodwin, 89, died Monday, April 3, 2000, at his home.

Born May 7, 1910, in Calico Rock, Ark., She was a high school teacher and social worker before retiring and a member of the Retired Teachers Association. She studied social work at Tulane University in New Orleans and helped establish the Arkansas child welfare system in the early '40s. She was a member of Palomar Church of Christ in San Marcos.

Mrs. Goodwin was preceded in death by her husband, Malcolm Goodwin, in 1977. She is survived by her son, Joe R. Goodwin of Long Beach; and nephew Reece Brooks of Oklahoma.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 7, at McLeod Mortuary, Escondido Chapel, with the Rev. Lyndal Privett officiating. A private burial will take place at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Ila Matheus, 79

VISTA - Ila Rue Matheus, 79, died Monday, April 3, 2000.

Born Feb. 25, 1921, in Hennessey, Okla., she lived in Vista. She was a teacher before retiring and a member of the Chula Vista Retired Teachers Association and the Eastern Star.

Mrs. Matheus was preceded in death by her son, Edward Matheus of Vista. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Sorrells of San Diego; brothers Allen Melendy and Dale Melendy, both of Hennessey, Loren Melendy of Tulsa, Okla., and Max Melendy of San Antonio; sisters Dorothy Hawk of Hennessey, Betty Gritz of Brookline Station, Mo., and Mary Hampton of Centerview, Mo.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A private service is planned.

The family suggests memorial donations to Tri-City Hospital Foundation, 4002 Vista Way, Oceanside, CA 92056.

Marguerite Wilson, 86

OCEANSIDE - Marguerite Elizabeth Wilson, 86, died Sunday, April 2, 2000, in Oceanside.

Born Nov. 15, 1913, in Pennsylvania, she lived in Oceanside for 52 years. She worked for Deutsch Co. and was a member of St. Mary's Star of the Sea Church and served in the Navy Nursing Corps from July 1943 to April 1948.

Mrs. Wilson is survived by her husband of 52 years, Richard Wilson of Oceanside; sons John Wilson and Michael Wilson, both of Portland, Ore.; daughter Mary Ellen Wilson of Honolulu; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 7 p.m., today, April 6, at Eternal Hills Mortuary. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, April 7, at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Church, with the Rev. John Dolan officiating. Burial will follow

John Hazeltine, 91

SAN MARCOS - John Laurent Hazeltine, 91, died Monday, April 3, 2000, in San Marcos.

Born Oct. 24, 1908, in Concord, N.H., he lived in San Diego County for 51 years. He was the owner-operator of Orbit Tool & Machine Co., retiring after 10 years. He was a member of the first water board in San Marcos and owned the San Marcos Market from 1949 to 1959.

Mr. Hazeltine was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Louise Hazeltine, on April 4, 1998. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Lee R. and Juanita Hazeltine of San Marcos; and two grandchildren.

No service will be held at the request of the deceased. A private cremation is planned with burial at sea.
