SUN CITY - John K. Saario, 85, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, in Wildomar.
Born Jan. 16, 1915, in Maine, he lived in Sun City for five months and had lived in Oceanside for many years. He was self-employed and a member of the country club.
Mr. Saario was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene Saario, in 1997. He is survived by his son, John D. Saario of Singapore; daughters and son-in-law Kay and Bob Goeschl of Homeland and Joan D. Saario of Idaho; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today, Oct. 6, at Eternal Hills Mortuary. Burial will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Mildred Danenberg, 88
FALLBROOK - Mildred S. Danenberg, 88, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, from complications of surgery at Tri-City Medical Center.
Born Sept. 30, 1912, in Binghamton, N.Y., she lived in Fallbrook for 22 years. She did nursing before retiring in 1969. She was a member of the Baha'i faith and the Women's Club of Fallbrook.
Mrs. Danenberg is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, George and Tracy Danenberg of Houston; daughters and sons-in-law A. Jana and Ron Johnson and Iris S. and Paul Bourque, all of Fallbrook, and Joyce Danenberg and Barry Rosenberg of Taos, N.M.; sisters Ruth Bassett and Pearl Greenberg, both of Cranbury, N.J.; grandchildren Crystal, Sharon, Billy, Andi, Megan, Branden, Caryl, Ken, Bob, Catherine, Justin and Andre; and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, Sept. 20, at South Lawn Cemetery in Tucson, Ariz., with her family officiating.
Emil Marquardt, 69
OCEANSIDE - Emil Pelu Marquardt, 69, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000.
Born May 31, 1931, in Malie, Western Samoa, he lived in Oceanside for 40 years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, retiring as a master sergeant in 1970, having served in the Korean War at Inchon and two tours in Vietnam. He was a member of the Chosin Few. He also worked for the civil service at Fallbrook Naval Weapon Station before retiring. He was a high school football fan.
Mr. Marquardt was preceded in death by his daughter, Francell Marquardt, in 1986. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Nancy Marquardt of Oceanside; sons and daughters-in-law Peter and Betty Ann Marquardt and Kimo and Susan Marquardt; daughters and sons-in-law Luana and Carl Vogelsang, Martha Marquardt and Janalle and Chad Morris; brothers and sister-in-law Eugene Marquardt and Edward and Rita Marquardt; sisters Lucy Ah Ching, Julie Poore and Victoria Marquardt; and 10 grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9, at Edson Range Chapel at Camp Pendleton.

Ollie Hauersley, 93
CARLSBAD - Ollie Mae Hauersley, 93, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, in Carlsbad.
Born Nov. 24, 1906, in Murray, Ky., she lived in Murray for many years and had lived in Vista. She graduated from Murray State University in 1929 and worked for Firestone Tire Co. in Akron, Ohio. She was a teacher, waitress at Wallgreens drug store and assembler of torpedoes during World War II.
Mrs. Hauersley was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Hauersley, in 1990. She is survived by her son, Kenneth Hauersley of Torrance; and grandchildren Laura Hauersley of San Pedro and Erica Beichner of Murray.
A private cremation is planned with burial at sea.

OCEANSIDE - Evelyn Caroline Truckenbrodt-Finn, 86, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, in Oceanside.
Born Oct. 24, 1914, in Chicago, she lived in Oceanside for 10 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Twin Cities Christian Church in Oceanside.
Mrs. Truckenbrodt-Finn was preceded in death by her first husband, August Joseph Schmid, in 1973; and her second husband, Bartholomew Finn, in 1993. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Penny and Joe Keefer of Oceanside; brothers and sisters-in-law Chuck and Phyllis Truckenbrodt of Elmhurst, Ill., Robert and Helen Truckenbrodt of Mokena, Ill., Ed and Vi Truckenbrodt of Nixa, Mo., and Dolph and Candie Truckenbrodt of Worth, Ill.; and sisters and brother-in-law Lucille and Robert Binkley of Republic, Mo., and Marilyn Flores of Nokomis, Fla.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6, at Chapel Hills Gardens in Oaklawn, Ill., with nephew David Rushton officiating.

Robert Fisher, 54
RANCHO PENASQUITOS - Robert Edward Fisher Jr., 54, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, of cancer, at his home.
Born July 21, 1946, in Ventura, he lived in San Diego County for 15 years. He was a senior war-gaming specialist for Titan Corporation for 10 years and served as a fighter pilot in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross, and retiring as major after 21 years. He attended Dartmouth University, graduating in 1967 and USAF Officers Candidate School. He held master's degrees in computers in education and international relations from National University and Troy State University. He was a member of the Retired Officers Club and an adjunct professor of political science at Miramar College in San Diego. He enjoyed playing guitar.
Mr. Fisher is survived by his wife of five years, Barbara M. Fisher of Rancho Penasquitos; and son Eric Charles Fisher of San Diego.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church in Poway. A private inurnment will take place at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma.

ESCONDIDO - John W. Cummins, 84, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, in Escondido.
Born Oct. 14, 1915, in Huntsville, Ala., he lived in Escondido for 25 years. He worked for Northrop Aircraft Co. for 30 years, retiring in 1971 and for Cummins Realty for 28 years, retiring in 1998. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and the Elks Lodge No. 1687. He served on the Salvation Army Advisory Board and was an Excel representative.
Mr. Cummins is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Cummins of Escondido; son Steven Cummins of Escondido; daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Jim Reser of Valley Center; grandchildren Christine Owens, Carroll Goss, Jennifer Cummins, Stephanie Romero, Eric Reser; and great-grandchildren Christopher Owens, Tiffany Owens, Nicole Owens, Travis Owens, Kristine Bennett, Michelle Bennett, Ryan Bennett and Austin Reser.

VALLEY CENTER - Jerry Wood Armstrong, 49, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at his home.
Born Nov. 28, 1950, in Artesia, he lived in Valley Center for 27 years. He was the owner/operator of a chicken ranch and was a member of the Farm Bureau, the Valley Center School Board, Boy Scout Troop 632 and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Mr. Armstrong was preceded in death by his brother, Alan Armstrong, in 1973. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Nancy A. Armstrong of Valley Center; mother and father Ruth and George Armstrong of Valley Center; sons Alan Armstrong, Ryan Armstrong, Neal Armstrong and Jordon Armstrong, all of Valley Center; daughters Stephanie Armstrong and Emily Armstrong, both of Valley Center; brothers Rock Armstrong of San Diego and Michael Armstrong of Valley Center; sisters Melody Kraft and Susan Logan, both of Valley Center; and numerous nieces and nephews.

OCEANSIDE - Eleanor Beatrice Hoyt, 72, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at Tri-City Medical Center.
Born Jan. 11, 1928, in Romeo, Mich., she lived in Oceanside for 20 years. She was a teacher's aide for the Sulphur Springs Unified School District for 10 years and a member of the First Lutheran Church in Vista.
Mrs. Hoyt is survived by her husband of 51 years, Harold R. Hoyt of Oceanside; daughters Pamela Faust of Vista and Kristina Cook of Rockland; brother John Brunk of Gaylord, Mich.; sister Rose Brassinger of Almont, Mich.; and one grandchild.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, at the First Lutheran Church in Vista, with the Rev. Cathy Bohman officiating. Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, at Riverside National Cemetery.

VISTA - Blanche A. "Bobbie" Lind, 82, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, from complications of a fall, at Tri-City Medical Center ICU.
Born Aug. 3, 1918, in Riverside, she lived in Vista for 12 years. She was a deli clerk for Lucky's grocery store for 30 years. She enjoyed scouring cookbooks, cooking gourmet meals and playing cards. She also enjoyed cheeseburgers at Burger King.
Mrs. Lind is survived by her nephew, whom she raised, and his wife, Robert and Joanne McDevitt of Kuna, Idaho; sister and brother-in-law Mildred A. and Calvin W. Ray of Ontario; uncle Christian Petersen of Riverside; grandson Kenny Titus; great-grandson Kody Titus; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, at Vista Christian Fellowship Church, with the Rev. Gary Evans of Winds of Harvest Church officiating. A private service was held and entombment took place Wednesday, Sept. 20, at Bellevue Memorial Park in Ontario.

FALLBROOK - Joan C. Enander, 78, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000.
Born Jan. 3, 1922, in Waterloo, Iowa, she lived in California since 1934 and in Fallbrook since 1948. She worked at a naval hospital and was a member of Fallbrook United Methodist Church, Boots and Slippers, PEO and a Bible Study Fellowship. She was also a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and traveling.
Mrs. Enander is survived by her husband of 54 years, Ralph Enander; son Craig Enander; daughter and son-in-law Carol Jo and Mark Stevens; and grandchildren Sarah Enander and Jessica and Joel Stevens.

MURRIETA - Bernard J. Botello, 82, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, of a stroke, at Rancho Springs Medical Center.
Born March 12, 1918, in Hutchinson, Kan., he lived in Murrieta for 12 years. He was a boiler machinist at NASSCO in San Diego for 20 years before retiring in 1980 and served in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant in the South Pacific during World War II.
Mr. Botello is survived by his wife, Josephine Botello of Murrieta; sons Paul Botello Sr. of Temecula and Gregory Botello of Vista; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Alfred Wagner, 84
OLIVENHAIN - Alfred Berthold Wagner, 84, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, at his home.
Born Jan. 31, 1916, in Chicago, he lived in Olivenhain for 33 years. He served in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a master chief petty officer. He was a travel agent with Cardiff-by-the-Sea Travel, was a certified flight instructor and a volunteer at the Encinitas Sheriff's station. He was a member of the Q.B.s Masonic Lodge 775 F&AM, Cardiff, and the Trolley Museum in Perris.
Mr. Wagner is survived by his wife, Jane Wagner of Olivenhain; daughter Carmen S. Pedota of Anna Maria, Fla.; son Donald W. Wagner of Utica, N.Y.; stepdaughters Patricia J. Puterbaugh of Carlsbad, Sherry Albertson of Oceanside and Helen Prew of Virginia Beach, Va.; stepsons John Albertson of Spring, Texas, Robert Albertson of Fayetteville, Ark., Joe Mason of Oceanside and Matt Mason of Virginia Beach; 12 grandchildren; and sister Grace M. Torkelson of Wilmington, N.C.

Jerry Jackson, 52
ESCONDIDO - Jerry Jackson, 52, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at Veteran's Hospital in La Jolla.
Born July 11, 1948, in Union City, Tenn., he lived in Escondido for 14 years. He was a manager and equipment technician for Tsunami Gear Dive Shop and served in the U.S. Air Force for 19 years.
Mr. Jackson is survived by his wife of seven years, Shizuko Jackson of Escondido; son Ken Wilson of Waikiki, Hawaii; daughters and sons-in-law Joanna Pericoli of Yuba City, Nikki Jones of Hayfork, Becky Fagan of Escondido, Angie and Joe Moreland of Esparto and Mandy and Larry Staas of Wheatland; brother and sister-in-law Jim and Britte Jackson of Escondido; and nephew Jimmy Jackson Jr. of Escondido.

John Miller, 66
RANCHO SANTA FE - John Cullen Miller, 66, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000.
Born Feb. 24, 1934, in South Gate, he lived in Rancho Santa Fe for 25 years and in Cardiff for 11 months.
He graduated from Compton High School in 1952 and attended the University of Southern California on a football scholarship, where he was a varsity letterman and a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps as an infantry officer and played and coached football.
He worked for Coast Envelope Co. for 31 years and was a founding partner of WordPak, a communications packaging company, working there for nine years.
He was a member of the Rancho Santa Fe Garden Club, Rancho Santa Fe Library Guild, Trojan Football Alumni Club and the Trojan Club of San Diego. He was on the Postal Advisory Board and was a member of the Direct Mail Marketing Club.
Mr. Miller is survived by his wife of 44 years, Nancy Miller of Cardiff; sons Michael Miller of Leucadia and Jeffrey Miller of Carlsbad; daughter and son-in-law Kiki and Bret Tiano of Encinitas; grandchildren Kambria and Brice Tiano of Encinitas; brother and sister-in-law Dale and Kitty Miller of Downey; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, at Rancho Santa Fe Village Presbyterian Church.
