CANYON LAKE - Ann Marie Tadla, 68, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, of cancer, at her home in Canyon Lake.

Born Dec. 4, 1931, in Campbell, Ohio, she lived in Canyon Lake for six years. She was a dispatcher for Hughes Aircraft Corp. in Fullerton for 15 years and a member of St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church in Sun City.

Mrs. Tadla is survived by her husband, John Tadla of Canyon Lake; son John Tadla Jr. of Canyon Lake; sisters Barbara Borman and Mary Klenio, both of Campbell, Ohio; one granddaughter; and one great-grandson.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 5, at Miller-Jones Mortuary Chapel. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, at Miller-Jones Mortuary Chapel. Burial will take place at Elsinore Valley Cemetery District.

William Chambers, 85

SUN CITY - William Edward Chambers, 85, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at Menifee Valley Medical Center in Sun City.

Born June 21, 1914, in Mackinac Island, Mich., he lived in Sun City for 21 years. He was a parts manager at Atomic International in Canoga Park for 20 years and served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945, receiving a Purple Heart Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with four Bronze Stars.

Mr. Chambers was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Genevieve Chambers, in 1999. He is survived by his stepson, Phillip Gatch of Westlake Village; stepdaughter Phyllis Ventura of Santa Barbara; brother, Barnaby Chambers of Gwinn, Mich.; and sister Helen LaBlance of Sault Ste. Marie, Canada.

A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church. A private inurnment is planned at Riverside National Cemetery.

Hortencia Papa, 64

TEMECULA - Hortencia Torres Papa, 64, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, of pancreatic cancer at her home in Temecula.

Born July 3, 1935, in El Paso, Texas, she lived in Temecula for two months. She attended Bowie High School in El Paso and was a homemaker for 45 years. She was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church in El Paso and St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Temecula.

Mrs. Papa is survived by her husband, Louis Papa Jr. of El Paso; sons Paul A. Papa of Los Angeles, Louis Papa III of Murrieta and Alfonso R. Papa of Perris; daughters Martha P. Alvarez of Cerritos and Pamela Papa Lopez of Temecula; brother Louie Torres Sr. of Pomona; 27 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held and a rosary recited on Monday, Jan. 3, at Stout Family Funeral Home. A Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, Jan. 4, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church. Burial followed at Riverside National Cemetery, Staging Area 2.

The family suggests memorial donations to Elizabeth Hospice, 150 W. Crest St., Escondido, CA 92025.

Irene Rasmussen, 76

SUN CITY - Irene Rasmussen, 76, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at her home in Sun City.

Born April 18, 1923, in Redstone, Mont., she lived in Sun City for 10 years. She was a teacher at Calvary Baptist School in LaVerne for 40 years. She also taught at Jefferson Elementary School in Missoula, Mont., for 20 years and was principal of the Christ Lutheran Church of West Covina for seven years. She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church of Sun City and coordinator for small Bible study groups.

Mrs. Rasmussen is survived by her husband, Robert Rasmussen of Sun City; sons Bruce Jenkins of Hermiston, Ore., and Arlan Jenkins of Spokane, Wash.; stepsons Paul Rasmussen and Mark Rasmussen, both of Covina; daughters Sherry Krellwitz of San Dimas and Norine Giacopuzzi of Lake Arrowhead; brother Leonard Smith of Redstone; sister Phyllis Granning of Plentywood, Mont.; and 11 grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. today, Jan. 5, at Miller-Jones Mortuary Chapel. A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, at Faith Lutheran Church. Burial will take place at Riverside National Cemetery.

Shirley Reedy, 67

SUN CITY - Shirley Mae Reedy, 67, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, of cancer, at her home in Sun City.

Born July 1, 1932, in Hannibal, Mo., she lived in Sun City for three years. She was a secretary at Hydroquip Inc. in Corona for two years.

Mrs. Reedy is survived by her sons, Steve Reedy of Firerest, Wash., Robert Reedy of Whittier and John Reedy of Paradise; and six grandchildren.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today, Jan. 5, at Good Samaritan in Whittier. A private cremation is planned.

The family suggests memorial donations to Hospice of the Valley, 26936 Cherry Hills Blvd., Sun City, CA 92585.

Mildred Hull, 73

HOMELAND - Mildred Ann Hull, 73, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at Menifee Valley Medical Center.

Born Oct. 23, 1926, in Los Angeles, she lived in Homeland for six years. She was a homemaker for 36 years.

Mrs. Hull is survived by her husband, William Hull of Homeland; son Jim Thompson of Needles; brother Vern Haggard of Costa Mesa; sisters Virginia Sherwood of Norwalk and Patsy Davis of Homeland; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Burial will take place at noon Thursday, Jan. 5, at Memory Gardens Memorial Park in Brea.

Verne Parris, 95

MURRIETA - Verne Vinton Parris, 95, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at his home in Murrieta.

Born Sept. 14, 1904, in Burlington, N.D., he lived in Murrieta. He was a grain farmer for 40 years and a member of Vista Masonic Lodge and Al Bahr Shrine, San Diego, in the Tin-Lizzy Unit.

Mr. Parris is survived by his wife, Genevieve Parris of Murrieta; sons Wayne W. Parris of Woodinville, Wash., and Stanley P. Parris of Sarasota, Fla.; daughters Joyce Parris of Campbell, Janet Shaffer of Murrieta and Peggy Chubb of Paradise; 17 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, at Allen Brothers Mortuary, Vista Chapel, with Vista Masonic Lodge officiating. A private inurnment will be held at Murrieta Valley Cemetery.

Edward Miller, 73
ESCONDIDO - Edward O. "Mr. Ed" Miller, 73, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at his home in Escondido.

Born Jan. 18, 1926, in New Bedford, Mass., he lived in Escondido for two years. He was a salesman for D'Agosta Shoes and a volunteer with Global Missions Fellowship in Rancho Bernardo. He was an elder at Pauma Valley Community Church.

Mr. Miller is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Martha Kellogg of Texas; daughters and son-in-law Patti Miller and Terri Miller, both of New York, Mabel Schwab of Colorado and Grace and Jim Parsons of Encinitas; brother F. Jack Miller; sisters and brother-in-law Ellen and Peter Taylor and Ruth Nielson, all of New York; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at Pauma Valley Community Church, with the Rev. David Craig officiating. A private cremation is planned.

Gary Adams, 56

CARLSBAD - Gary V. Adams, 56, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000.

Born in McHenry, Ill., he lived in Carlsbad for 14 years. He was the founder of Taylormade Golf and of the Founders Club and McHenry Metals Golf Companies. He was recognized as the father of the metalwood and received honors from Milton College, PGA of Illinois and the PGA of America.

Mr. Adams is survived by his wife, Nancy "Sam" Adams of Carlsbad; parents Vale and Marjorie Adams of McHenry; son Bradley Adams of Cardiff; daughters Rebecca Alexander of Escondido, Anne Bischoff of Phoenix and Katherine Adams of Carlsbad; brothers Nelson Adams of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Craig of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, at the First United Methodist Church in McHenry. A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, also at the First United Methodist Church in McHenry. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in McHenry. A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, at San Dieguito United Methodist Church in Encinitas, with a reception following at the Tuscany Restaurant in Carlsbad.

Matthew McCormick, 75

VISTA - Matthew Peter McCormick, 75, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at his home in Vista.

Born Oct. 29, 1924, in Milwaukee, Wis., he lived in Vista for 35 years. He was a gunnery sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps for 20 years, serving during World War II and the Korean War.

Mr. McCormick is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ruby McCormick of Vista; sisters Carole Bohlman of Milwaukee and Patricia Siebert of Hartford, Wis.; and numerous nephews and nieces.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at the United Methodist Church of Vista, with the Rev. Lanny Arrowsmith officiating. A private cremation is planned with cremains to be scattered at sea.

Cecil Pettit, 75

OCEANSIDE - Cecil Denman Pettit, 75, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at Tri-City Medical Center.

Born March 30, 1924, in Ballinger, Texas, he lived in Oceanside for 53 years. He was a heavy equipment operator for Operating Engineers and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Pettit is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lorraine Pettit of Oceanside; sons Dwayne Pettit of Vista and Dennis Pettit of Oceanside; brothers Wiley Pettit of Texas and John Pettit of Colorado; sister Adell Kelley of Oceanside; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at Kingdom Hall in Vista. Inurnment is planned for a later date at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.

Mary Updike, 89

OCEANSIDE - Mary O. Updike, 89, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at Tri-City Medical Center.

Born April 1, 1919, in Missouri, she lived in Oceanside since 1975. She owned and operated an auto parts store.

Mrs. Updike was preceded in death by her husband, Marion F. Updike, on Feb. 13, 1983. She is survived by her sister, Catherine Murrick of New Port Richey, Fla.; and numerous nieces in California and niece Virginia Campbell in St. Louis.

Betty Dykstra, 69

ESCONDIDO - Betty J. Dykstra, 69, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, in Bakersfield.

Born Aug. 28, 1930, in Peoria, Ill., she lived in Escondido for 12 years. She was a church secretary.

Mrs. Dykstra was preceded in death by her husband, August Dykstra. She is survived by her sons, Randy A. Dykstra of Poway and David L. Dykstra of Poulsbo Wash.; brothers Joe and Keith Marsh of Lafayette, Ind.; and grandchildren Allan, James, Deanna, Benjamin and Cody.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at McLeod Mortuary, with David Walls officiating. A private cremation is planned.

Clarence Headrick, 84

ESCONDIDO - Clarence Edwin Headrick, 84, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, of Alzheimer's disease in Escondido.

Born Feb. 5, 1915, in Burlington Junction, Mo., he lived in Escondido for 30 years. He worked for General Dynamics before retiring and was a member of Nodaway Lodge No. 470 in Maryville, Mo., Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 154, Escondido, Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Shrine 97, Escondido, Order of the Amaranth, Court 162, Escondido, Royal Arch Masons, Tyre Chapter 130, Escondido, Cryptic Masons, Helix Council No. 58, Escondido, Boaz HI-12 Club No. 437, Escondido, and the United Methodist Church in Escondido.

Mr. Headrick was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Georgia Headricks of Escondido; brothers Leland Headrick of St. Joseph, Mo., and James Headrick of Omaha, Neb.; sisters Mildred Suter of Palmdale, Vera Williams and Irene Renshall, both of Maryville; and numerous nephews and nieces.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, at Escondido Masonic Center, with past master Richard P. Sak officiating. Burial is pending at Memorial Gardens in Maryville.

RANCHO BERNARDO - Kermit Beck, 65, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, at Villa Pomerado in Poway.

Born April 17, 1934, in Ithaca, Mich., he lived in San Diego County for 28 years. He worked for Seagate Technology before retiring and served in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a commander.

Mr. Beck is survived by his wife of 43 years, Norma Beck of Rancho Bernardo; sons Kerry Paul Beck of Mission Viejo and Matthew Dale Beck of Rancho Bernardo; daughter Jennifer Anne Perdue of Marietta, Ga.; brothers John Dale Beck of Grand Ledge, Mich., and Benson "Pete" Bristol Beck of Moneta, Va.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation was held at Poway-Bernardo Mortuary. A funeral service took place at noon Tuesday, Jan. 4, at Grace Lutheran Church, with the Rev. James Young officiating. Interment icon followed at Dearborn Memorial Park in Poway.

Earl William Monroe, 73

VISTA - Earl William Monroe, 73, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, in Oceanside.

Born Feb. 8, 1926, in Chicago, he lived in Vista for 15 years. He was an aerospace engineer for Boeing for 32 years and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II as a corporal and the Korean War as a sergeant.

Mr. Monroe is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ethel Monroe of Vista; son Richard Monroe of Vista; daughter Georganne Andersen of Escondido; one sister; and grandchildren Chad and Carissa Andersen and Michelle Jennings.

No formal service is scheduled. A private family inurnment will take place at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.

Alice Everley, 91

OCEANSIDE - Alice "Marian" Everley, 91, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at Life Care Center of Vista.

Born June 15, 1908, in Long Beach, she lived in Oceanside for 35 years. She was the owner/operator of Weed's 'N Flowers Handmade Greeting Card business before retiring. She was a member of the Poinsettia Chapter of the Order of the Easter Star and International Order of Rainbow Girls.

Mrs. Everley is survived by her daughter, Virginia Wilder of Oceanside; one grandchild; and three great-grandchildren.

Inurnment will take place at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Rhoda Moffitt, 85

CARLSBAD - Rhoda Ruth Moffitt, 85, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, in Vista.

Born Nov. 29, 1914, in Bolivar, Mo., she lived in Carlsbad for 50 years. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Moffitt was preceded in death by her husband, Kenith Ray Moffitt, in 1976; and her son, Kenneth Wayne Moffitt, in 1993. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Stanley Bruce and Jane Moffitt of Vista; daughter Joyce Arlene Bacon of Oceanside; grandchildren Dennis Wayne Moffitt of Wisconsin, Valerie Copeland of Alta Loma, Cheryl Garbutt and Kenith Moffitt of Murrieta, Jennifer Brown-Frauenberger, Janet Tunney, Julie Mattos and Joe Brown, all of Oceanside, Jimmy Brown, Jerry Brown and Jeff Brown, all of Bonsall, and John Brown and Janie Ogilvie, both of Valley Center; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at Eternal Hills Mortuary, with the Rev. Mark Griffo of the Good Shephard Worship Center in Carlsbad officiating.
